Hi there

I have been on the July thread, but it moves so fast and as I don't have time (or energy being so sleepy), I can't keep up with everyone who is on several times a day! If anyone else wants to join me in a slower thread to share how your pregnancy is developing, feel free!

Hi everyone,

I'm in complete sympathy with the spot suffers - my face is covered, I don't think that I had this many spots when I was a teenager

I too have felt movements (19wks today) every now and again I feel a slight tapping sensation - seems to be around lunchtime!!

I too have the occasional glass of wine - drank wine on special occasions with DC#1 and he's a very bright little man like others have said there's a difference between the occasional glass and getting rat assed!!!

Apuski I think that if it's important to you and your DH that your Son knows then the Mum's will just have to accept your decision

ApuskiDusky · 11/02/2010 20:01

Hi all, the scan was fine, no problems, so that's a relief. And you can be the first people to know, we're having a boy! It's weird, I somehow always imagined myself the mum of boys, though had thought this was a girl because I had been so much sicker this time.

The meeting with the consultant went as expected, so I won't need any extra growth scans, tests etc. So all back to normal!

GibbonInARibbon · 12/02/2010 07:52

Congrats Apuski! Now you can do some serious thinking about names

tobago04 · 12/02/2010 09:19

Congrats Apuski and Emsiero how exciting!
I'll be 19wks at my next scan, don't think it
matters too much,can't wait though!
I've got a nice little bump now, although it is a bit squishier 3rd time round
I'm just at that annoying stage where i have to undo my jeans half way through the day but not big enough to fit into my maternity jeans!
Hope everyone is OK

GibbonInARibbon · 12/02/2010 09:29

not being able to fit into maternity jeans.

Everyone keeps telling me how huge my bump is for my dates.

'oohh you didn't show at all till 6 months with DD and now you look 6 months or more already!'

My boobs have gone to an E cup and I could eat for England this time. I am nearly 20 weeks and stepped on the scales yesterday and have nearly put on a stone aleady.

ApuskiDusky · 12/02/2010 10:07

hanks all (and congrats on having a girl, Emsiero). We've started the names conversation in earnest. It's not straightforward, I've used up the one boy's name I loved with ds1 (ha ha, first time I've used the '1' after ds!), and I have already downloaded the 'top 1000 names' spreadsheet and looked through it without anything jumping out at me, so it's not that the perfect name is out there but I haven't come across it yet (don't want something so obscure that it is out of the top 1000!). So we're looking for 'growers'.

Also about not fitting maternity trousers. My belly has exploded in the last two weeks, everybody now notices irrespective of what I am wearing, and my biggest normal trousers have just been consigned to the spare wardrobe. So I'm left with three pairs of work trousers, a pair of jeans and a pair of leggings. At least it's easier with tops as long as they're long enough!

ApuskiDusky · 12/02/2010 10:08

Thanks, obviously

GhoulsAreLoud · 12/02/2010 11:23

Congrats apuski and emsi!

Haven't posted for ages, sorry.

I am definitely in the massive camp! I remember not showing until well after 20 week scan with DD but I'm almost 20 weeks now and have been visibly pregnant for aaaaages.

Have also had tons of movement this time - proper kicks and everything since about 17 weeks.

Got my 20 week scan next Thurs and very excited. Didn't find out the sex last time and really want to this time. I had a horrible birth with DD and was too busy dealing with the aftermath of that in the delivery room to properly appreciate finding out that she was a girl. So want to have it as a separate thing this time round. Very excited!

tobago04 · 14/02/2010 10:17

Morning everyone, hope you all have a nice valentines day,my dh is snowboarding in Scotland so nothing romantic going on here
Didn't mean to make you ,you have all got about 3-4 wks on me though
Am at E boobs though!
God I'm going to be the last one to pop it out aren't i?!

GibbonInARibbon · 15/02/2010 09:31

Hello all

I have my 20 week scan this week, please God all will be ok and I can really relax. Baby is moving so much, I cannot believe how much I can feel it, at 20 weeks with DD I had just starting getting flutters and was not sure if it was movement or not.

Hope everyone is well

Hi All

I've just joined and excited to see other people's comments! Am due 27 July with my first. I haven't felt any movement yet, although i read recently that the first movements can feel like wind?!!

I stopped fitting into most of my trousers at about week 12, so am now having a hard time finding jeans that fit properly (am 5'3) with my (what i think is) enormous belly!

Twittle · 16/02/2010 12:38

Well done to those that have found out that they are having boys or girls lots of people seem to be having scans, I am 17 weeks tomorrow EmsieRo so we are due around the same time I guess! I have felt any movements yet (it's my first though could that be why), I have put on nearly a stone as well although I have to say that I haven't really been eating for Britain just maybe one or two counties.... worst of all my boobs are now a 34H (normally an E) and am hating them fingers crossed they will stop now but I am putting my weight gain down to those mainly!!! I can't get into any of my jeans but still squeezing into my work skirts. Am also really nervous about my 20 week scan... if you don't want to know the sex will the sonographer try and keep away from that area of the baby???? Although I don't want to know if I see myself then thats a different matter!!! Re. the name thing - how do you ever choose, should you narrow it down to one before the baby arrives.... ???

lifeistooshort · 16/02/2010 13:42

Hi everyone. Congrats to all of you having boys (I don't think I have seen anyone having a girl yet on the thread). I have not been around for a while as I have been very sick since Xmas. I had pneumonia, then a muscle tear due to coughing, then realised pneumonia wasn't clearing, then cought a vomitting bug (2 days after being prescribed an other course of anti.Bs) and then a tooth abscess. I have been signed off work this week as my immune system seems to be quite run down so I am resting. I am slightly concerned about the amount of drugs that poor baby of mine has been subjected to (2 course of antibiotics, 2 course of very strong painkillers, anti-vomitting drugs and whatever the dentist injected) but I am trying not to worry too much as it has been moving and kicking away happily.

Another 2.5 weeks for me before I have my scan.

I am quite please though as I have finally done some baby related things such as booking independent midwives and booking a refresher hypnobirthing course. I have been so busy lately at work that I hardly ever have time to think I am having a baby.

Re-weight, I am not too bad this time. I don't think I have put any weight on mostly due to all the illness I have had as I wasn't that hungry. My bump is quite sizeable though and you can't really miss it. No doubt I will put lots of weight on once I feel fully recovered.

tobago04 · 16/02/2010 20:06

You poor thing life, you really have been through it ,hope your on the mend, nice that your little one is kicking happily
Welcome Holly
Had a hospital appointment today although i don't really know what it was for, thought it was to discuss about me having strep b,but when i got there the doctor only vaguely mentioned it,instead he checked the heart beat and said they want to see me at 32 & 36wks as apparently my last two were big for my size,so they want to keep an eye on it's growth! eek!

Twittle · 17/02/2010 13:23

EmsieRo I checked last night as I keep getting dates muddled up but I am actually due on the 28th not the 27th (as I have been thinking all along) oh well only a day in it and as you say you can't read much in the EDD! Also my first too and waiting to feel some movements although also thinking it will be quite surreal/weird first time around??? Am already trying to get my head around the fact that I am not really that fat or have a massive beer belly but that there is actually a baby in there......!

Also EmsieRo has nobody clocked at work that you might be pregnant??!!?? I am trying to decide when's best to start maternity leave.... keep thinking that if it is really sunny it would be lovely to make the most of the good weather and get out in the garden but then the sensible part of me thinks - better to be spending my time and work and actually getting paid for it!

Lifeistooshort is the hypnobirthing course to help you get through the labour? Is it helpful.

Has anyone been watching that TV series on Tuesday nights 'One Born Every Minute' on channel four, not sure I should actually be watching it or not but curiosity got the better of me last week and I did.... I recorded last nights instalment!

HollyFP · 17/02/2010 13:43

Twittle my friend told me about the C4 series even though she already has a major fear of giving birth!! I for one am refusing to watch it - from what i hear it seems to be either scaring the sh*t out of new mums-to-be or just another ridiculous way to get viewers.

Also Twittle i'm thinking of leaving work around 4 weeks before EDD. That's only 4 months from now - scary! If it comes 2 weeks early, then it doesn't leave long to prepare/be in the garden

Twittle · 17/02/2010 14:19

HollyFP I think you're probably right not to watch it, it didn't exactly fill me with confidence!

I was also thinking about the fact that if the baby was to come 2 weeks early then that's only 2 weeks respite! Although I am hoping that maybe it does in a way as my husband is already planning a trip to a sheep sale in Scotland three weeks after my EDD that he hopes me and the baby will be going on too............ men hey!

P.s July seems a long way off but not when you think we could be stopping work in 4 months eek!!

lifeistooshort · 17/02/2010 14:34

twittle yes the hypnobirthing is to help with labour (and to start realising there is a baby in there and that I need to chill). And yes I believe it works (or at least it did for me). With DD I had a horrendous experience (back to back, 36 hours labour, was sick throughout, had all the drugs in the book and then ventouse delivery) so I wanted to do something different with DS. I did the course and really practice with DH. With DS I was in labour for about 10 hours. It was all fine until I reached transition (didn't realise I was in transition then, but was just crying and crying and thinking I couldn't do this anymore and I was convinced I had hours to go). In fact I was so relaxed that when the midwife arrived at 14.00 she thought I had hours to go and I thought the same. DS was born 2 hours later and probably 45 minutes of it I found quite hard so quite a big change from DD.

Sorry I am waffling. I am curious about one born every minute too and recorded the program yesterday but I am not sure I will watch as I would rather concentrate on positive birth stories.

With regards to maternity leave it does scare me too. I know I need to go early-ish as I tend to have early babies, but I have so much to do by then. And when I think as Holly says that it might be less than 4 months it frankly panics me big time!

After all the talk about weight gain, I weighted myself to see if I have put a bit back on and I have realised I have lost one kilo. Now on tops of the effects of the drugs, I am worried the baby is not getting enough sustenance. I had put more than one stone at this stage for both DD and DS. I am really looking forward to the 20 weeks scan as although I try not to think about it, I am really quite worried

Twittle · 17/02/2010 16:12

lifeistooshort thank you for the info about hypnobirthing - something to think about... there's soo much to think about!

Also I am sure that you are worried about your baby as you say with the effects of the drugs and the weight loss but you will find I am sure that your baby is growing fine as he/she is getting all of goodness and nutrients needed it is just you that is missing out and I am sure that the doctors who prescribed your meds wouldn't have given you anything that could compromise your baby's health, it's just a good job that you are on the mend now - and not long to go before your scan (2 weeks or so isn't it) when your mind can put at rest! Try not to worry too much (and that's coming from a major worrier - so I know how you feel-ish)!

Aussieng · 17/02/2010 17:10

Hi Lifeistooshort I've always found the Docs paranoid about medication in pregnancy even while we were just TTC - I'm sure they will have checked. Re the weight loss, I'm currently down 9 lbs still (18 weeks) and my MW seems entirely unconcerned about the LO - she said babies are very good at getting what they need but suggested that I might feel a little more energetic if I could eat a little more.

I'm actually quite enjoying one born every minute and am counting the day so to my maternity leave. Im starting ML 4 weeks before the EDD and taking 2 weeks accrued holiday prior to that so by early June I should be outta here

GibbonInARibbon · 17/02/2010 19:03

Hello all,

Feeling worried and had scan today and firstly have a low lying placenta (not too bad thankfully but they need to check again later on to see if it has moved up) then they checked the heart and there is an irregular heartbeat so have been referred to a consultant. Trying very hard not to worry but can't wait to get appointment now.

Hope everyone else is well x

ApuskiDusky · 17/02/2010 19:13

Oh, Gibbon, sorry to hear that. The low lying placenta issue I think is quite common, I had it with my last pregnancy but it moved out of the way; it did account for some bleeding I had mid pregnancy, which was reassuring.

Any idea on when you are likely to see the consultant?

GibbonInARibbon · 17/02/2010 19:21

Thanks Apuski, they are calling tomorrow with an appointment so fingers crossed it won't be too long.
