Missmarjoribanks - i've been dying to hear all about it. You did fantastic!!!!!!

I'm glad you were so looked after by the hospital - they're not all rubbish I've only had positive experiences at mine too.

It sounded very dramatic but you seemed to be cool throughout! I've not known anyone to start by having pains in their legs, labour comes in so many ways.

Welcome Brasso4 and Lucyanna

whensmydayoff - Arrrrrrghhhhh! So annoying for you. Make sure you let your selfish friend know what hassle she has caused you and make a point of saying, "ah well, we are stuck in now until it clears up, I would not want to take him out incase he passes this onto other children!" - DIG DIG!!!

Maybe from now on when you are planning meeting up with friends ask them to call to cancel if they have anything even a cold. They should tell you so you can decide if its a better idea to arrange another date.

I was so greedy today, made another big pot of broccoli soup, had a massive bowl(i mean Big) of it and half a french stick . Felt like I was going to explode after but still squished a mince pie down - oh the heart burn!

I really think I may go early too, this baby is trying to get out most nights, two nights in a row I was worried my waters would break!

Two weeks early would be ok - please baby, stay for now

alibobins · 07/12/2009 18:25

Well seen midwife today and bump as now turned back to back which explains all the pains and cramps he is also fully engaged so ready to go!!!
She said its unlikely that he will turn now he's engaged but sometimes babies will turn with contractions.
She also said I could be in slow labour but not to get too excited as it could go on for a while.

Wonder who will be next to deliver I had a dream it was londonlottie

mistletoekisses · 07/12/2009 18:34

Ohhh, has anyone elses mumsnet turned an annoying red? Mine has suddenly done it and is very distracting!

somewhathorrified · 07/12/2009 18:43

CTOFN I wouldn't feel ashamed of just the one pack fo Jaffa's, after all they come in handy triple packs now. I only feel ashamed if I scoff all 3 with one cuppa!

Just got back from shopping and MW. Have now got my home visit for HB booking in thingy next monday, how scary is that!

Thanks to all for the reassurance that it wasn't just me being lazy needing a cat nap.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 07/12/2009 18:48

Alibobins - you will be the next!!! Fully engaged and this is NOT your first!! Come on, second and subsequents only engage once they are ready to come out... apparently! I'm just surprised bub is still in you .

Mistletoekisses - yes v annoying red!

Somewhat - tee hee!!!

alibobins · 07/12/2009 18:53

Midwife did say 3rd babies are pains

shinybaubles · 07/12/2009 18:57

mine hasn't gone red .
ooh jaffa cakes - they don't sell them here .
wow alibobins you're good to go .

CantThinkofFunnyName · 07/12/2009 18:57

I second that on 3rd babies - this is my 3rd and I have NEVER had such an awful pregnancy. Will be glad when it's over so I can stop moaning

OP posts:
Liskey · 07/12/2009 19:25

I've not been around for a while but thought I'd pop back and say hi.

Congrats to you Missmarjoribanks thats a lovely name.

Keep telling myself only this week at work to go and then 2 weeks holiday and I then start Maternity Leave - no more driving for an hour each way which will be really nice as I'm beginning to feel a bit tired from it.

mistletoekisses · 07/12/2009 19:43

No more redness, have no idea what that was about!

Ali - you may have the last laugh and end up being overdue! Could you imagine? Although at my last appt, I asked during my scan how far down the bubs head was and the consultant said no where near engaged and that after the first baby, babies only tended to engage just before labour/ once labour had started! So I second what CTFN said. But who knows with these LO's! They will come when they are good and ready.

Shiny - where do you live?? No jaffa cakes??

Liskey - welcome back. bet you cannot wait to finish this week. The roads are suddenly starting to get crazy busy in the run up to Christmas. So it will be good timing on your behalf.

showmethemummy · 07/12/2009 20:22

hello all, and welcome to all the newbies.
congratulations missmajorie; hope baby is strong enough to be home soon...

hope everyone had good weekend. went to ikea in crazy fit of sponaneity on own with dd1and2. oops have suffered consequences today!

Is anyone 'insomniacal' at the moment? it's a great development on top of low iron situ.

Also anyone else really thirsty? last night i think i must've had at least a litre of water to drink during the night... and of course saw much of loo

and can i 'third' the motion that pg3 is worst ever? this has been one big PITA.

quirkychick · 07/12/2009 20:57

showmethemummy I keep getting really thirsty, and as baby is now jabbing cervix/bladder it is not good. Gives you great heartburn at night too.

I too have had jaffa cake craving, glad I'm not the only ones. As has been said already, they are low in fat... Dp has bought some triple chocolate biscuits they are definitely not low in fat. Delicious though.

Liskey · 07/12/2009 21:28

Just worked my way through this thread reading - looks like lots has been happening I'm another one who along with DH like the name Samuel if its a boy.

I've just had a huge banana milkshake to try and combat the heartburn at the mo and the cramps which are due at about 4am. Saying that I've been swimming tonight and that always tens to make my muscles cramp later.

Fraochsmum · 07/12/2009 22:16

Yes I have been getting thirsty all through the pg actually, but luckily haven't been too disturbed during the night and have had no heartburn. I have at least a litre of cordial in the evening, on top of all the water/milk/raspberry leaf tea during the day!
Hope you are nearly there with the kitchen Biccy. We got the worktops fitted on Sunday and the hob connected today - bliss! Sink will be plumbed in on Friday at the latest, then it's just the tiles to get. It has now been 6 weeks, but we just couldn't afford to get someone to fit the lot.
We are getting double glazing put in tomorrow can't wait for the windows to stop dripping from the inside and the curtains to stay in one place when there is a strong wind - all in time for my health visitor coming next week!
It's been nice hearing other peoples names, we have rather boring choices so far; Chris, Ross, Glenn, or Aimee - but have yet to get further than 'B' in the name book
I'm getting so excited about the baby now! He could realistically be here in 2 weeks!!! I got an exercise ball from a friend, but not too sure what to do with it - any suggestions? Unfortunately spoke to someone yesterday who was negativity personified about birth (she has 2 children) and actually nearly freaked when I said I was having baby in the town! The highest pain relief available is gas & air and the birthing pool, and she just couldn't get that I wanted to stay However it was very interesting to hear your story MrsMarjorieBanks and I'm glad it all went well. If I am labouring slowly they will put me 'up the road' i.e. Glasgow, because they can't do any surgical procedures here.
Goodnight all x

devotion · 07/12/2009 22:46

Fraochsmum - sit on your birth ball when using the computer and eating your dinner. this is your new chair, sit with your back straight and roll forward until you knees are lower than you hips.

When you can or watching tv get on all fours leaning forward onto the ball and you can rock back and forward, i like it so my chest bone ia flat on the ball with my arms loosely hanging either side. you can also rotate your hips like this - great just to relax, ease your back and fab in labour!

all the above will also help baby get in a good position.

then post baby it comes in handy, for some reason new borns know when you sit down and prefer your rocking them as you walk but at 4am in the morning sitting on the birth ball boucning gently or rocking side to side seems to do the same trick.

plus you can use it to tone your belly afterwards.... but i am yet to do that one!

Liskey - i love banana smoothies, does it have to be a milkshake? first time had really bad heartburn today, thats what i get for devouring massice pickled onions yesterday

mistletoekisses - that is exciting!!! well lets see if londonlottie is indeed next?

RE: 3rd babies being a pain, i love being pregnant - its the only time i am truly happy with my body and being naked (am i weird?) but this time i was sick 18 weeks, the babies movements are actually painful (must be weaker muscles maybe?) and the braxton hicks are stronger, plus the whole swine flu wasted weeks of worry for me but i'm ok about that now. But other than that i have been lucky to escape alot of pregnancy PITA'S that alot of people get so I should be grateful.

I have 7 weeks left and I can not tell you how much I want to wish them away, holding my friends new borns today has made me feel even more impatient.

I've been reading Ina Mays book to Childbirth - I love it! I am really looking forward to this homebirth. If I follow her advice I should be snogging dh whilst he stiimulates my nipples during contractions . All the sexy play that put baby there will get him/her out. My dh can not wait!... I may even orgasm - now that would be a story to tell at tea morning with new mums and babies! .... i will have to give my personal review on her book post birth!

Liskey - gosh, an hour drive each way. I bet you can not wait to finish. Not long now!!!

I have my driving test next Monday, all my friends and family have been pushing me to get my license with three kids and all that... i just find the lessons so boring. I failed once (did last test heavily pregnant) and I am a bad loser so I just hope I pass because its so expensive!!!

MissMarjoribanks · 07/12/2009 23:42

Hello again all, and for your aches, pains and general pissed-off-ness. I'd be absolutely furious if someone came anywhere near my child with an illness if they didn't have to, so certainly sympathise with that one.

I bought a birthing ball and did a couple of exercises on it, though its been deflated now to make room for a bed for my mum who is arriving tomorrow. I was intending to use it to ease the pain of contractions, and did in fact sit on it in an attempt to ease the 'leg cramps' but it didn't really bring any relief. So it may or may not work for you.

We registered Thomas' birth this morning in Manchester and then attempted some shopping. I got tired very quickly and had to sit down lots, but at least I now have two nursing bras from M&S (possibly the most unattractive things I have ever had the misfortune to wear) and a couple of button down tops, which should make things easier with the machinery.

Thomas is off the phototherapy and I put him to the breast today where he made a bit of an attempt at sucking, though not much. It's all progress though and we're really pleased with him. And he is gorgeous. I wouldn't change anything for the world now he's here, and selfishly I'm quite pleased I'm no longer pregnant as I was beginning to loathe it.

All the running about is making the weight fall off me as well - I'm already back in a pair of non-maternity jeans which are now dropping down my backside and my arms and face have thinned out already.

DH is going back to work tomorrow and he has just told me to type quietly and not wake him up when I come to bed after expressing at midnight as he needs his sleep. If this is his attitude I have no idea how he is going to cope with a baby in the house.

Anyway night all, I'll no doubt be back tomorrow for another late night MN session.

Biccy · 08/12/2009 00:17

This thread is moving so fast it's making me late to bed trying to keep up!

Welcome to you if you've just found this thread.

lottie, I really know what you mean about trying to let go about what's not done; I had high hopes of our hall, stairs and landing being finished (we started it in April 08, ) and the dining room being done too before the baby arrived. I've gradually had to lower my expectations, and I'm getting to the point of not caring about skirting boards in the extension, or paintig the insides of the windows etc, and just wanting the space back everywhere else. My personal therapy is to immerse myself in the things I can get on with, so finally got a new chest of drawers for dd's room today, and have cleared out the chest of drawers that has a changing top to go on it, so I can start getting baby stuff down from the loft, to wash, air, sort etc.

We won't have our tree until after dp's birthday next week - to be fair to him we try and keep Christmas out of the picture until we've celebrated his birthday. But then we'll have a tree so big we have to cut the top off. It just has to be done doesn't it?

fraochsmum, I use my ball when I do the ironing (in fact I did a pile of ironing sitting on the ball when in labour with dd, and I'm sure it really helped - I used a tens machine and pool, with no other pain relief, so I totally understand you planning to stay in the town; that's not to gloat, dd was in the perfect position and my labour was not desperately long, so I was very lucky).

missmarjoriebanks, thank you for your story. My sister's first baby was born at 33 weeks, 5lb 1oz, and they took him home just before 37 weeks - your little one has a 4oz head start, so hopefully home for christmas! The fact that Thomas made an effort at sucking is great news I think.

Kitchen update: now have working oven, and have ordered new fridgefreezer and dishwasher to be delivered Thursday. DP thought the dishwasher was an extravagence - then he re-plumbed the old one in tonight and guess what - he no work no more! Chippy coming tomorrow (we think..) to fit final wall cupboards, and then we're down to extractor, cabinet lights, doors and trims, so really should be able to get moved back in there this weekend. Here's hoping...

Fraochsmum · 08/12/2009 08:35

Thank you very much for your advice for the ball by the way, it is very useful to know.
You will be glad for a homebirth considering how the baby is going to be born! Hypnobirthing uses this theory too - but I'll be in a hospital...
I'm not surprised you got tired Missmarjorie!!! I can't believe you have the motivation to shop so soon after giving birth, you sound like you are doing great though. I am expecting the same type of comments from my dh too - mainly about how Sonas managed to produce 11 in one go, and if she can do it...
Glad the kitchen is getting there Biccy, and a couple of new appliances to boot! Thanks for the reassurance about pain relief, I was just a bit taken aback at her abject horror!

alibobins · 08/12/2009 09:32

Woke up full of cold and coughing everytime I cough it pulls my stomach feel sick and got a runny tummy (tmi) baby better stay put until I'm better

sockmonkey · 08/12/2009 09:34

Can I just have a little sob in the corner? DS2 is being an absolute PITA and that combined with lack of sleep is sending me round the bend.
Does anyone know Santa's telephone number? I may be cancelling some presents and ordering a lump of coal.

I think we all seem to be getting to the very fed up stage. DH has given me a run down of when I can & can't have the baby as he's fairly busy through January. HAHAHA. Good luck with that one.

Biccy · 08/12/2009 11:43

Well, had my swine flu jab today. I'm trying to forget about it in case all the feverishness I've been told I'll probably feel is psychosomatic (sp?).

Am home today when I should be at work handing over, as dd is too poorly for pre-school and childminder. Well, she has a viral rash, is slightly warm, red rings round her eyes, streaming nose and hacking cough - but she's full of beans. Children are just amazing the way they cope with illness.

showmethemummy · 08/12/2009 11:56

hi alibobins, sorry to hear you're ill. sounds really nasty, hope you can get good rest.

sockmonkey, the last week or so my two have also been winding me up, but they weren't being particularly bad; having very little energy makes it really really hard to cope with them generally, let alone when they are actually being difficult. So really sympathise with you...

but maybe can also cheer you and everyone who's feeling really rubbish up by saying I'm feeling much better today. just suddenly- like some sort of fog has been lifted off me. i'm now 34+2.

here's hopin' for more good days!!

bethoo · 08/12/2009 12:30

it has taken me bloody hours to catch up with you all!
congrats MMB and hope little Thomas is home soon.
maternity bras??? i am still in underwired normal ones lol.
cramps at night? yep that is me, bloody agony.
had midwife appointment and my fundal height has not changed so have to go back next week to see if it has grown and if not then scan, i am 36 weeks but measuring 33cm but it is a different mw so may just be that they all measure differently. she was engaged last time but the mw could not even locate her head yesterday!
but she seems ok as you can see her move across my belly which feels very tight and i have to virtually sit horiizontally if that is possible??
not back with x and doubt i will as yesterday i asked him ot take me ot mw app since it is his child i am having then all i got was i was a user! erm its your baby mate, the least yoiu can do is take me to appointments on your day off! so there is stil a lot of anger there. he is still telling me what to do and what not to do so now i just dont tell him anything! he even texted me a photo of his two daughters holding a sign saying we miss and love you Bethoo to lay on the guilt!! i love him but even now i know i cant be with him so it is just hte letting go and i know he will casue problems if i give his child his surname etc as he will try and dictate as to where i can live should i choose to move up north as already had the it will break my heart etc. but i have no family here!!!
i think i will be early too as bloody cramps all the time but mw said maybe it was my body saying to take it easy, easier said than done wiht two small people to feed and entertain as well as house ot tidy etc and chores to do!
i have no back up as my friend who was gong to have the kids is off to Germany to see family which she had forgotten and parents are now saying terrible things about my parenting skills, basically my kids are headed to living in their own wee on the poverty line! all becasue i wont go up there and have baby in unfamiliar hospital. they will not have my dogs which i am ok with as it is their house but i cant afford £40 a day for up to three weeks while i wait to have baby and they go on about their cream carpets but surely kids and potential waters breaking is also not a good combination with cream carpets? i think my mum thinks you can keep kids in a cardboard box or something!
rant over!
but good news is i keep job and house though it will be a squash, at least i have my own house and then in a couple of years who knows?
welcome to all the newbies who have been lurking!
i cant beleive i have less than 4 weeks, well that is if she does not go overdue!
mw said that whether babies come early or late depends on the father. so there goes my idea this one will be early as she has a different dad to the other two! buggar!!
i did try and keep this short!!

bethoo · 08/12/2009 12:36

alibobins get plenty of rest as you seem to be next in line for joining MMB
i am having SF jab today as there was a big drama at reception as the dragons receptionsists were turning down pregnant women and i asked a fellow pregnant lady if she was having problems getitng booked then a gp got involved telling the receptionsits we were the top bloody priority and to book us in straight away. it was infuriating that they had taken it on themselves to tell pregnant women they were not a priority, even asking what the mw had said, asking if the midwife had told us to get it done. so i feel we won a small battle in the war against snotty know-it-all rude receptionsits!

sazlocks · 08/12/2009 13:42

get well soon alibobins
sympathise with you sockmonkey

really struggling to keep up
thats on this thread and in RL by the way !
anyone else pregnant with a toddler and finding it really hard ? My DS is a bundle of pure gorgeousness but like many 22 month olds he is IN.TO.EVERYTHING................and its wearing me out.
My lovely DH has been decorating our kitchen this weekend so things still a bit all over the place - what is it about us pregnant women that makes it seem a good time to get people doing jobs in our abodes ??
Went to see MW last week and was measuring 34 at 32 weeks but as someone else said it was a different MW so I don't know if she just measured differently.
Looking forward to giving up work end next week not least of which because baby currently has all its stuff in next doors loft and we need to get our act together to wash clothes, get a crib matress etc etc ! I haven't even packed a bag for me yet either.
