Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fraochsmum · 30/12/2009 10:04

Me Sockmonkey - a sort of stabbing ache (if that's possible) right at the front of my pubic bone. I just couldn't sleep last night at all because of baby excitement not aided by a fire shout at midnight - as soon as I'm in labour the batteries are coming out of that damn pager
I think we are just going to my friends' house on Hogmanay, but whether I manage till midnight remains to be seen.
Right better go get the house in order for my maw and stepdad and extra dog xxx

Mama2b5 · 30/12/2009 13:02

Hi all -
Just got back from the docs baby is fully engaged so now its a countdown he actually said see me in 2 weeks, but is doesnt hold out for me so said see you with baby! but all is well!

my birth plan is - get in, have baby, come out!

Sockmonkey- turning over is painful, but im used to it now although pain is getting intense
but what can i do!
walking is such a chore its hard work!
no party plans for me - church and bed!

Im awaiting the call from my cuz who is due any min now! although i dont think shes ready to come out yet, maybe shes waiting for her cuz!

crumpette · 30/12/2009 14:31

Congratulations CantThinkofFunnyName and baby Olivia!!!

awwwwww!

saw mw today who says my bp is still high and called the hospital got angry and demanded a consultants appt for me, so if baby not out by this time next week I have an appt re induction due to my history

Getting scared.. keep having dreams that this baby is HUGE and gets stuck..

Hope everyone ok, flyingma thanks for the exercises, still getting the cramps in one leg and not the other now.. weird! I think they woke me up less than normal though so it may have done some good I'm probably just getting too enormous for my legs to cope!

bigpreggybelly · 30/12/2009 14:59

Congratulations everyone who has had their babies!

Yes, I find turning over in bed really painful too - I have to psyche myself up and make sure I keep my legs quite close together. Last night, one of my hips sort of cracked whilst I was doing it!

Can't wait for my body to go back to normal!!

FakePlasticChristmasTrees · 30/12/2009 16:32

hello again all! Luke Edward was born on Christmas day!

Very, very traumatic birth, birth plan well and truely out of the window - started going wrong at the point I arrived at the hospital and was told as I'd just thrown up i couldn't have gas & air, started on the epidural far too early and so went a very long time without eating. Luke ended up having to be a forceps delivery in theatre, seems despite the fact that they were cutting my bits, they failed to notice how much blood I was losing and ended up having to stay in an extra couple of nights so I could have a load of blood put back in me.

Currently suffering the effects of sleep deprevation, and being hopelessly in love with the gorgeous new little man in my life!

sockmonkey · 30/12/2009 17:22

FPT!!! Been waiting to hear from you. Congratulations on birth of Luke. Sorry it all went so wrong. Sounds very much like what happened with me when DS1 was born. Hope you are recovered soon.

Biccy · 30/12/2009 20:31

Congratulations FPT, sorry the birth was so traumatic, but very pleased to hear how much you're in love with the end result. Thank you for reminding me of the main purpose of all this (and that however we get there is secondary).

Fibilou · 30/12/2009 21:26

Is anyone else ridiculously overexcited about getting rid of the 2009 calendar and seeing their due date marked on the current month ?
I've been itching to take down the 2009 one since about Christmas but as I will be seeing new year in by myself (husband is on shift) I might save that as a special midnight treat with a glass of bubbly to usher in the year I become a Mum

bethoo · 30/12/2009 22:20

more babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am here with only 4 days til my due date and am being overtaken by everyone! it is just not fair!!!!
congratulations to everyone and hope babies are fine, i have not read through the thread as it seems to be hard to catch up since my folks are down and dont want to give them the imopression i neglect my kids for the internet!

well i hope that i will be on the arrivals list soon as been getting heaps of twinges usually on a night.

JoInScotland · 30/12/2009 22:45

Have developed SPD, and the pain is incredible. I can't walk very far, and am taking codeine for the pain. I have to say, that at 38 weeks, I didn't anticipate this. Will it affect my desire to have a water birth? I mean, will they move me from "low risk" to "high risk"? Will the pain get better after the birth, or will it take a chiropractor to sort out my poor pubic joint?

Biccy · 30/12/2009 23:51

Hi JoInScotland. Sorry about your SPD. I read up about this when I was worried I was developing it, and I think a water birth is one of the best things you can do in this situation as the water supports you and offers pain relief for the SPD as well as the labour - giving birth lying on your back with you legs in the air is even more of a no-no if you have SPD, so your midwives should encourage you to move about and stay upright. This website may be helpful too.

flyingma · 31/12/2009 00:48

Congrats Liskey, CTOFN and FPT on the births of your lovely kiddies! Glad to hear that you made it through ok and best of luck with the next few days of adjusting.

saz glad to hear that the consultant has agreed to a plan that you find satisfactory. I can see how you are so worried about this one after what you have described your previous birth so hopefully you will have a nice straightforward one this time.

sockmonkey and Fraochsmum Yeah I keep getting the stabby pains too... I thought a while back that it is what they call lightening aka baby trying to engage.

During the MW appt last week, I was told that I was only about a 1/5 engaged so been bouncing on the ball since. Tho I have to say that being on the ball seems to cause what I think is SPD... so just achy pains in the pelvic area which affects you walking.

devotion That is a scary thought - not knowing when you are in labour: I've had loads of BHs since ages ago and it is still happening. This evening on the way back from Ikea, I was having constant BHs which seemed to be distinctly pushing bubs downwards which were causing stabbing pains in the fanjo. Coz I was in the car and could not go onto all fours, I just heavy-breathed all the way home while DH was trying his best to keep his cool and not freak out.

It's been ok since being back home but those pushing motions are starting up again. They seem to originate from the top of my belly just under the diaphram going in waves downwards. Gaa this is going to be fun. I guess at least I've made it past Christmas!

alibobins · 31/12/2009 08:25

FPT a christmas baby what a lovely suprise

Jacob is really struggling with his cough and cold went back to doctors last night and they have put him on antibiotics as its on his chest we have got to go back at 10 to see if any improvement if not they admitting him to hospital
He's just not feeding well and sleeping all the time and with him still only being 6lb 2 at 3 weeks they said he can't afford to loose any weight

Can't believe it would be my due date tomorrow I kind of miss being pregnant and coming on here to moan

sockmonkey · 31/12/2009 08:39

ali Poor little Jacob... and poor you! Hope he mananges to still put on weight, or at least not loose any. Must be a big worry.

flyingma even though this is my 3rd I still wonder at every twinge if this is the start of things. I was having pains while putting the shopping away last night (DH still just left me to it ) But nothing came of it. Hope all goes well for you. Could be our first baby of the new year!

nomorebooze · 31/12/2009 09:37

hi peeps! hope everyone had a good christmas just on having a catch up! congrats to all the new mums, loving the names ali- moan all u like, thats what were here for! i just hope things improve for you and baby jacob soon, bet hes still adorable!
i would have a look at all new arrival pics but cant work out how to?
one wee question i am 37 weeks today, had midwife appointment yesterday and she said babys 4/5ths engaged, what does this mean exactly? does it only have 1/5th to go before fully engaged? posted on preg forum late last night and am pleased to know im not the only one unsure .

MamaLazarou · 31/12/2009 11:23

Hello everyone! Congrats to all new arrivals, I hope everyone is well.

Yes, nomorebooze - that's what it means, although I must also warn you that the head can un-engage slightly as well: my baby's head was 3/5 engaged at week 34 but now is only 2/5 engaged.

We now have 3 weeks and a few days to go, and a big box of home-birth gear in the dining room... and a box of scary injectable drugs in the fridge! EXCITING

crumpette · 31/12/2009 13:01

Congratulations FPT!!! A christmas day baby!!!

alibobins sorry to hear little Jacob still struggling. If he is admitted at least he will be closely monitored and they'll get him through the worst of it. They always need beds etc so won't keep him any longer than they need to, that's probably a useless thing to say, but just remember he will be home with you v v soon if he does go in.

nomorebooze my mw wrote 4/5 in my notes, same as the week before. I think if they actually write engaged then it is 4/5 engaged and only 1/5 to go. However usually it is written as fifths of the head that are palpable, so in my case I think it means 4/5 palpable.. ie only 1/5 of the head is engaged and the rest is still out! HTH

No news my end DP being a prick bit of a pest.. had regular 'tightenings' last night which got more painful and came about every 5-10 mins for a few hours and then disappeared

DP seems to think it is appropriate with me at over 39 weeks pregnant for him to go from London to 'up north' (6 hour + drive)to see his (very evil) mother, and expect me to go with him, when I am supposed to have this DC in a particular hospital just in case there are problems with the baby (after DD)!? I think he is a tw*t! He says he has to go now to sort out problems in the house as he is back at work next week...

so, no birth partner for me!

Sorry to vent but..argh..!

crumpette · 31/12/2009 13:05

mamalazarou if it was 3/5 then 2/5 I suspect it has engaged a bit more and only 2 fifths of the head are now palpable above your pelvis. Baby is on its way!

mistletoekisses · 31/12/2009 13:34

Just popping on quickly to say hi to everyone

Ali - hope little Jacob improves soon. Am sure he will be as right as rain in a few days. Do let us know how you get on.

Nomorebooze - to see the pics, click on the name of the poster. Those with their names underlined have got public profiles set up and that is where their pics will be.

Crumpette - Am in a brutally honest mood. What planet does your DP live on?? It is totally unacceptable for him to even think about going, forget suggesting that you should also go. Is he definitely going? Do you have any friends/ family who could be an emergency birth partner??
I had a similar incident with my mother about 4 days ago when I was 37 weeks (my waters broke with DS at 37 weeks). Despite telling DH and I she would be at ours from christmas eve until the baby arrived, she had pressing business back at hers. . And went back for 3 days leaving us with no back up care sorted if I went into labour.
She put me under so much stress it was unbelievable and cue a huge row. I havent argued with my mother since I was very young! She has literally just arrived back - so now have to work on getting things back on an even keel.
I just wanted to let you know that I totally get your frustration. But it is possible that your DP could go and return before your LO decides to make an appearance. Please try not to stress too much!

sazlocks · 31/12/2009 13:46

Hi all -
all much better frame of mind here since seeing the consultant. Just got to keep my legs crossed now until the 27th January !!
much congrats FPT and sorry that the birth was traumatic. Don't know if your hosp has a post birth debriefing service ? mine does and you can use it 6 weeks after the birth where a senior midwife goes through your labour and birth notes. I found it really helpful so might be useful for you once you back on your feet.
alibobins sorry to hear about Jacob - hope he is better soon.
crumpette what on earth is he thinking
???!!?
mistletoe hope you manage to sort your mum out - ps did you get my email with my contact dets on?
waves at everyone else and raises a mug of tea to the new year. Ours is going to consist of us, a log fire, some lovely food and Jools Holland if I stay up that late (sad sack that I am). We are off for a walk (waddle) and lunch with friends tomorrow.

crumpette · 31/12/2009 13:52

mistletoekisses yes the drama is that there are tenants there in the house also and they suddenly have no hot water, thus are not paying rent, thus cannot pay mortgage.. etc.. and whingey MIL is unwilling to tell a plumber what to do...

I think he thinks it would be fine for me to go! grr even though I need to be near to specialist liver unit just in case.. WHICH IS SO ANNOYING! lol
He hasn't gone yet, he is currently fizzing around trying to make me feel guilty for not going! Nobody else nearby that could do any birth-partnering unfortunately!

I suppose if he doesn't go then baby will be very late and if he does go I will be in labour before he gets there! pfft! Then again his last effort at being birth partner consisted of sitting in the corner, reading 'the sun' and referring to it as minor discomfort while I was biting a chair screaming in agony with no pain relief, so hey ho it may not be such a bad thing!!

whensmydayoff · 31/12/2009 15:27

well done fake! one handed typing so sorry for following

i cant believe you called him luke edward - that was my boys name too! edward was a family name, grandad, uncle etc and i just liked luke...weird to see it typed as i was convinced it would be a luke edward as opposed to an olivia yvonne!

my birth very similar but just managed to escape forceps. i hadnt eaten or slept for 3 days due to tummy bug and contractions. puts you at a bad start doesnt it but glad your ok and bub well. anything better than an emerg section, at least you can recover quickly .

and....wee luke is our xmas babe -awww

whensmydayoff · 31/12/2009 15:28

can someone tell me where i can view photos of the babys and put one of olivia on
