TLC - have you had your blood pressure checked recently?
Just a thought...

Hello all.

Thanks for the comments on visitors - very interesting.

TLC my pregnancy book says nosebleeds are normal, and I have a slightly bloody nose too (though no actual bleeds). I think the capillaries are swollen or something.

On the subject of names. Well I'm the only person alive who didn't like the Amelie film (too cutesy for this tuff Irish broad), and the name is VERY popular but it does roll off the tongue nicely. Arlo and Solomon are nice - Arlo is a but nicer I think as Solomon is a bit weighty and biblical for this anti-religion zealot. Matilde/Milly very cute.

IWCAS you have my sympathy - you are right to be angry but I think it's really commendable to not want your anger to get in the way of your son's relationship with his dad. Tis tough, and you do need to consider your own welfare...a bit of counselling might help? Or I'm sure there are plenty of people on here with similar experiences - maybe if you post they can share their experiences?

I had my anti-D injection this morning. Not too happy, but thought it was safest to get it.

Welcome newbies!

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 08/12/2009 13:08

signing in after my MW visit. BP is up and MW rememberd that I had high BP from last time so has booked me in again in 2 weeks time . . . . and it's official not only do I feel big I AM BIG ! I'm measuring 30 weeks and am 28w. I'm not too bothered as I measured big for DD as well and MW says 2cm either way is fine, I stressed about it last time but lots of people reassured me that it is pretty inaccurate anyway. If it starts getting more than 2cm over then I may ask for another scan nearer the time before definitely commiting to try VBAC. If I couldn't get an 8lb 11 girl out then I'm unlikely to get a whopper even bigger baby out!
I know I'm very lucky to have such a helpful mother and I do make it known that I appreciate it all. I also have a great Dad who knows the best place for him is NOT at our house until all the birth stuff is well out the way!
BPM I am truly at the way your outlaws behaved after the birth of your baby!
TLC I've not experienced pregnancy nosebleeds (but had loads as a youngster) but think they are fairly common in pregnancy. You've got more blood pumping round your body and everything is under more strain. Sure Pacific will be along with something more reassuring and medical shortly!
annamama I can't decide whether you or arcadie are the 'head girl' of this ante-natal group, you are both terribly good with lists and getting things right. I don't know where we would be without you both! the list is way too long so I wholeheartedly agree that unless the lurkers pop in and say hi they get axed!
Caitni please tell us about the nappacino - I've never been to one but will be organising some locally in the new year so feedback would be great! Where is it being held?
Cranky - hello and welcome. My latest thoughts on swine flu are that only the nurse from my surgery has put any pressure on me to have it. She called up to say they were having a clinic on such and such a date and I said I didn't think I wanted it and she said well you can pick up a leaflet at the surgery. Since then I have seen my GP about an unrelated thing, 2 MW appointments and a consultant appointment and not one of them have mentioned it. If it really was so serious I'm sure they would have checked to see if I'd had it or at least put a bit more pressure on. I've had sinisitus and a D&V bug recently so know that I'm succeptible to catching stuff right now but still don't feel I'm at high risk.
IWCAS I was in for 3 nights post emcs so doesn't answer your question really but they were reluctant to let me go til I'd had a number 2 ! All the pain relief had really bunged me up but after 3 nights I was keen to get home so I begged. There is a thread ATM about establishing BF before being allowed home too - seems like 6 hours is pretty quick turnaround but I suppose if there are no complications then it can be okay.
No one offered to take my baby at all. First night post surgery I had to buzz if DD cried or wanted feeding or changing as I was flat on my back so a nurse had to lift her out the fishtank cot and pass her to me. After that I was able to get upright myself so I was the boss. I think the 'taking away' at night is a pretty old fashioned idea and most wards don't have enough staff to do this.
I said before I wouldn't comment on names so I'm sticking to my guns. I do often comment on the baby names section however but I don't want to offend you lovely ladies ! I was told I was rude the other day on one thread which made me giggle like a naughty schoolgirl!
Sariska if I were you I would say you will go to the wedding - to keep the peace - but in my head reserve the right to change my mind closer to the time when you know how you are feeling. I can't comment on the 'what to wear' dilema - sorry.
designerbaby did you ever have a debrief? (I remember seeing you on MamaG's debrief thread)
Right I can't scroll through anymore stuff so sorry if I've missed you.

TLC - We have more blood in our bodies at the mo, and the nose capillaries are more delicate than in other places. This leads to the odd bleed for some. I had one the other day. On the plus side, another by-product of all this blood can be quicker arousal, better orgasms.

Arcadie · 08/12/2009 13:14

I know it's tempting to "bump" people who haven't been on here in a while, but it seems a bit heartless. I wouldn't want to come back after a fortnight's holiday to find that my status as Due in March 2010 had been rescinded due to inactivity on the thread.

And Smac Annamama is welcome to headgirl. I'll be the anally retentive janitor....

ilovegreenbeans · 08/12/2009 13:14

Arcadie, think more Much Ado than Macbeth ...

Shroomer · 08/12/2009 13:15

Arcadie Can we have that list in a nice Excel histogram graph showing which days in March most of us are due on?

mumbot · 08/12/2009 13:25

Anyone packed their labour bag yet?

Starting to think about it - think I'll feel a bit more relaxed when it's packed and stuffed away somewhere.

TLC I would mention it to MW just in case but nosebleeds are common, I'm getting stuffy-aircon-nose all the time

annam at leg wax and anything remotely pampering at the moment

dbaby keep us informed of your progress with Celvapan, I'm taking the same route, it's not easy is it?

welcome crankytwanky love the name, as you've already got 2DC's was your 2nd labour easier / quicker and did you have a bigger baby? I'm pg with DC2 at the mo.

pureedchestnutsonanopenfire · 08/12/2009 13:31

The thing about bumping the no-shows is that you don't know if they are reading and nt commenting or struggling to keep up......[puree goes back to lurking and struggling to keep up with all the chat...and makes note to self to pack bag]

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 13:35

Hi Smac - no didn;t hve a debrief - didn't know there was such a thing until that thread... It probably would have been offered quite soon afterwards anyway, and I don;t think I would have been ready for it in any case at that point... I was resolutely and determinedly FINE about it (stiff upper lip and all that, chaps - does it show that my Dad was in the military?) for quite a while ? until suddenly I wasn't...

I'm hoping my Consultants appointment will shed some light on the whole thing ? I'm over the worst of the emotional stuff related to it, but I do feel that at this point I would really like to understand exactly what the hell happened and why... Especially in as much as it will affect choices I make this time round.

Nosebleeds etc... I think maybe pregnant women just generally... leak!?

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 13:37

Oh, and I'm in favour of keeping everyone on the list - I remember last time that a lot of people returned once maternity leave started...

Hello P&P!! Welcome back and lurk away...

xx

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 08/12/2009 13:58

ahem Arcadie but the 25th comes after the 22nd . . . .
I see that it's only annamama and me that think the lurkers/non posters should be bumped so happy to defer to you warm hearted MN veterans! I've not been on an MN ante-natal thread before, I registered when I was first pregnant but it all looked too scary so I would read the weekly round ups and occasionally pop on and then scamper back off to a cosy little forum I'd joined earlier.
Now I can't keep away from the blasted site!
designerbaby from that debrief thread I think the minority of women were actually offered a debrief but anyone can request one. My consultant doesn't have my notes from DD's birth to hand unless you specifically ask so at my last appointment (after I had requested debrief) we were able to go through it all however at my 12 week scan appointment she didn't have any of that information to hand. Your birth was way more traumatic than mine but I totally get your need to understand what happenend and how that affects your choices this time round. I think as well as the stiff upper lip you end up putting it to the back of your mind and get on with life with a new baby and then bingo when you are pregnant again it all starts to go round and round in your head, I know it was keeping me awake at night and felt I needed to talk about it - and before my 38wk consultant appointment which is what the mw suggested initially!

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 14:14

OMG again at the speed in which this thread moves!

Welcome, twanky! I've had Panderemix SF vacc oh about 5-6 weeks ago, no sideeffects other than the usual sore arm. Bubs seems to be unaffected as far as I can tell.
For me the very theoretical risk of adjuvant/newish vaccine was very much outweighed by real risk of pregnant woman dying of complications of SF.

Nosebleed - yes, normal in pregnancy, swollen capillaries + dry nasal lining = messy pillow cases in the morning. Vaseline to nostrils can make a difference...

db, why don't you ask for a specific debrief appointment when you see your consultant next? That will ensure there is more time, all your records should be there (I am a 3 volume woman as far as making/having babies goes ) and everything that happened can be brought up and explained blow by blow IYKWIM. Don't worry if some time has passed since your last delivery; debriefs are often more constructive and useful if the immediate trauma/shock has worn off.

at head girls!

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 14:17

Oh, and big - tick (had to repark car the other day specifically to allow me to open the door far enough for me and bump to emerge... I keep forgetting I can't just suck it all in )

Clumsy - tick: dropped a can of paint, lid came off, was only emulsion, phew!

List is getting long, but maybe we could still keep everybody and bump them off if they do not turn up,...oh, say, 4 weeks after their due date?

Sariska · 08/12/2009 14:20

Histogram? What's a histogram? Sounds like something medical.

Pack labour bag? Hmmm, had not given it a thought. Without a MN prompt, might well not have got round to it until maternity leave at 37 weeks Should maybe do it before then, especially as DH is off to Italy when I'll be 36 weeks. s'alright - my mother will be staying with me in case I need emergency DS care.

Have just absently-mindedly eaten 1/2 pack of G&B dark choc that I bought to make choc& banana muffins with. Will have to buy more chocolate; have half a ton of bananas (special offer at the market) to use up.

Hello P&P. I hope the SPD is not too awful...

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 08/12/2009 14:30

mumsbot packing labour bag ??? Already????? No I have to say I haven't given it a thought! I'm going to get Christmas out the way first then get my little bag of newborn clothes out the back of the wardrobe and do all my laundry and think about labour bag and baby bag and freshen up the moses basket, buy newborn nappies etc.
MMM at your banana and chocolate muffins sariska

Sariska · 08/12/2009 14:32

Ooh, not just the muffins. Also banoffee pie and banana loaf. As I say, I have a lot of bananas to use up. (Any excuse!!)

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 14:33

Smac & Pacific that's a good idea, about a specific debrief appt.

I've already taken the step of getting my notes from DD1 sent from the Homerton to the Whittington, (their records person was very very helpful in that regard, did it almost immediately and didn't charge me...) However I've been unable to ascertain whether they've been correctly filed at the Whittington - their Antenatal reception is very chaotic busy and they never have time to check when I've asked... hrmpf.

I've got a double appt. booked with the consultant (I think) because the midwife who made it for me agreed that there were a lot of questions which needed answering. So it may well suffice, but if not, i shall certainly follow it up and try and get another...

It's not even a case of closure or anything now - I just really need answers so i can make informed choics this time - about whether to refuse induction (if it comes to that) etc etc. I need to base these decisions on good medical advice which can only happen if what happened last time is taken into account IMHO...

donttrythisathome · 08/12/2009 14:41

Nope, no labour bag packed.

I've nothing organised actually - apart from the amby (but don't even have sheets and blankets). I'm going to sort it all out soon as feeling stressed about it all, but so hard when working full-time and commuting 3.5/4 hours a day.

Whinge over.

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 14:41

at packing hospital bag! But, but it is going to be months before I have this baby !

DB, informed decisions is what it is all about!
I was quite when my consultant asked me when I was expecting DS3 "Which way would you like to have this baby?". This was after 1 vag (induced) delivery and 1 emCS. I was kind of hoping he would tell me what the medically safer/better way would be. I should say I loved my consultant and the question was really just a way to open discussion. If I had wanted a CS, I could have had one. Equally he was supportive of my preference of going for VBAC. Risks and downsides where fully discussed.
You go and get your answers, girl!

Mmmmh, bananas: muffins, bread, milkshake, banoffee pie, baked banana with chocolate inside (childhood favorite), banana split...

Shroomer · 08/12/2009 14:44

Nosebleeds - I've bought a humidifier for the bedroom to get some moisture into the air. It does seem to help my sleep - less nasal stuffiness/bleeding. BUT - it is a bit noisy, and has a 'night light'. WHY? Why would I want a light on when I'm trying to sleep?

Labour bag - I wouldn't know what to put it in it. I'm waiting to be told stuff like that at at the ante-natal course in Jan.

A histogram is a type of graph, not a medical term. It would show when in March most of us are due (e.g. perhaps all on the 12th), or when there might be a quiet spell - but to be honest, it would only appeal to sad geeks like me.

annamama · 08/12/2009 14:49

Uh-oh, not trying to be a bully here! It's just that the list is so long and boring to read, and it would be more fun if the boy/girl/suprise was added too... But I won't bother then. When we get on to the post-natal thread we will make a new list with actual birthdays anyway and names for those who want.

If anyone is curious, the people I was going to take off are...

I am fairly sure that MMTWGR was one of those who sadly had a miscarriage.

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 08/12/2009 15:06

Matilde is definitely on the list, then! We still haven't got a clue about the second name, but I'm sure we'll think of something! I think she'll be a 'Matty' rather than a 'Tilly', though.

Actually, does anybody else have any experience of naming twins? Do we have names for the first one to be born and the second to be born? Do we wait and see which suits? Do we put them in a hat and pick that way? It's something which I hadn't though of before, but it's annoying me now!

I've spend all morning trying to source a pair of tickets for Leona Lewis' concert for DD1 and a friend. Apparently they are sold out and nowhere else seems to be selling them for a reasonable price . The babies have gone crazy, so I'm sure they can feel my stress!

I'm going out with some ballet mums this evening - I'm quite excited, because I don't get out much these days! I can't quite decide what to wear yet - to those of you who are feeling like a house side: I bet you're not a patch on me! - do I go for slimming black? Or bump enhancing patterns? Any thoughts?
