Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Sariska · 08/12/2009 15:51

Me again. Cleaner has just left. As she was leaving I asked after her boyfriend who was ill in hospital last week. Apparently he had something flu-y and was vomiting blood. The cleaner reckons she is getting it now. Am I wrong to be a bit and that she came to my house? I don't know if it's swine flu (she didn't know) and, OK, I've had the vacc (but only on Saturday so don't know if that's enough time for immunity to develop) but my 20 month old DS and my DH haven't. And even if it isn't SF, we don't want it here. Have just been round dettoling all the hard surfaces I can think of....

Someone tell me I am being paranoid. Please.

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 16:09

Sariska, you are being paranoid! Well, you did ask.

You are a contact of a contact, try not to worry and see how things pan out. Vomiting blood is NOT symptom of swine flu and not usually anything infectious.
Stomach ulcer? Heavy drinking?

Pixie, I have sported dark and cream bump on two different nights out last week - cream was v much more scary overwhelming . I suppose depends how much you want to show your girls off !!

Sariska · 08/12/2009 16:11

Thanks Pacific. I needed to hear that!

mumbot · 08/12/2009 16:15

Hi sariska, firstly big at you having a cleaner, secondly I would ask her to come back when she's feeling better just in case, failing that a big bee-keeper style, head-to-toe, anti-viral body suit x

pixie go on, you know you want to go wearing a tutu, that would be brilliant

anna why don't we give the people on your list 2 weeks to say whether they still want to be included or not, is that a fair compromise?

giggles at pacific having to park car further away in order to get out, I walked between 2 parked cars this weekend and almost got wedged stuck between the wing mirrors!!

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 16:28

Ha, mumbot, I've done the getting stuck between 2 wing mirrors in a previous pregnancy . I forget I am no longer a sylph-like elegant thing

siamesecatwoman · 08/12/2009 17:05

labour bag? Crikey! I still have nothing but a rainbow striped bouncy chair and some breast pads. Am determined to get past xmas before I buy anything else for baby (including pram although have choosen Britax vigour three wheeler).

[vomit face] I havent been able to stand bananas since I got pg (I used to have at least one a day) - this was one of the things that outed me as pg at work when I could smell a banana at 300m and had to leave the room..

xmas do during day time on friday and will wear lovely green blooming marvellous dress although suspect over dressed for lunch, want to wear something nice even though it is in LEEDS and therefore trainable and so could drinnk for first time on works xmas do in ... forever.. cant obviously drink and have become inevitable taxi. Still, at least not in arse end of nowhere like has been for last million years and have had to drive country lanes in pitch black with car full of drunken work idiots collegues..

Anyone else looking forward to their xmas do?

Arcadie · 08/12/2009 17:22

labour bag nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Not for weeks and weeks. I'm only 24 weeks pregnant for goodness sake!!!

ILGB You called you precious little daughter Dogberry? Shame on you..... (was it the "I", the "B" or the "U" name?)

And you can't move Twofalls off the list - she's an AIBU celeb!

Rindercella · 08/12/2009 17:41

Hi everyone. My God, this thread moves sooo quickly! It must be less than a week since I last posted, but it's taken me an age to try and catch up with everyone!

IWCAS, your ex is a twunt. I am so sorry that you are having to endure such emotional crap while pregnant. This is one time in your life where you really shouldn't have to think about anyone other than yourself (and your bump). I do not blame you for being angry.

Annamama, I am sure TwoFalls is still around - I 'saw' her on another thread the other day

Re baby names - there are some lovely names being considered. Millicent is particularly pretty. I think we have more or less decided what DD2 will be called...DD1 is India and we have the most common surname going (as fellow FBers will confirm). We don't want anything too out there, but are after something just a little bit different, and at the moment Jasmine is the front runner. DH initially preferred Yasmin, but I think I have persuaded him that Jasmine is prettier and softer. I think India and Jasmine (Indy and Jaz) go very well together

My bump is actually starting to look really quite lovely!! I don't know if it's all the lurgies I've had recently, but I weighed myself the other day and nearly fainted. I have only put on 2kg since my booking in appointment some 15 weeks ago...so I think while my bump has grown the rest of me has slightly shrunk (which can only be a good thing!).

Speaking of lurgies, I am back to see the GP yesterday as my ear still hasn't cleared up. I am in a lot of pain and can't hear out of that ear at all. Grr. I also have a really, really unslightly spot/lump on my neck. DH and a good friend have persuaded me to get it checked out as it looks quite horrific I just feel a bit daft asking a GP to check out a spot! SF jab will be booked once I am back to 100% again.

A friend brought her 2 children round today - a 20 month old and 4 month old. DD was just a darling around the little baby. When I was holding her, DD would come and sit with me and gently kiss her on the head! I wonder how gentle she will be when DD2 comes along and takes up Mummy for most of the time!

Arcadie · 08/12/2009 17:43

Sariska have checked back - yes you're right mmtwgr aka monkeysmaketheworldgoround did leave us. Shan't update right now but will try to remember..... Looking back on early thread was and a little too at all the peeps we lost along the way.

Arcadie · 08/12/2009 18:08

Rinders Just LOVE the names India and Jasmine together. So beautiful. Sorry your ear still hurts though

beanzmum · 08/12/2009 18:47

Hey all - I'm been checking out this thread for ages but haven't contributed until now. So hi! DH and I'm expecting our first bundle of lovable mayhem to join us on or around March 4. Am already getting impatient!

Anyway, thought I'd share (in case it's of interest) that JoJoMamanBebe have the Widgey pillow (cows and animals prints) on sale for £15 online at the moment, and you CAN use a 20% off code (PBD92) from P&B magazine. Which makes it £12 if you choose the standard delivery option.

annamama · 08/12/2009 20:12

Arcadie and everyone else, maybe we should just stop doing any more lists now! Who really cares to see a bunch of names (posters, lurkers and deserters) and due dates. Roll on the list of ACTUAL births... And let's hope it doesn't start too early, despite what someone wished for! Yes that was so sad with all the people who had miscarriages, hoping they have conceived again by now.

Welcome Beanzmum! Wow, you seem a good person to have on the thread...

Rinders - I also like Jasmine, yes it's better than Yasmin. Hope your ear and weird spot gets better soon!

Pixie - that was an interesting question about naming the twins, I was wondering that myself out of curiousity! Maybe ask people on the twins board? I would probably look at them and see if any name for some reason seem to suit one better... Still thinking about what goes with Matilde, would you pronounce the E at the end or is it silent? (No surely not?)

I seriously can't keep up with this thread! I am looking forward to maternity leave so I can actually get to know you all. I saw that there was talk of bumping off the lurkers so thought I had better show my face as it were. I cant even begin to try to make comments to each of you. I have tried to read it all though I promise! I take my hat off to those of you who keep up and manage to work/care for other DC's.
Is anyone else fed up with tipping up to see the midwife every few weeks for about 5 mins? My midwife can only see people on a tuesday afternoon between 1 and 4. Bloody inconvenient when I am self employed and work in London but live 40 miles outside. One Tuesday a month is effectively a write off, its costing me a fortune! (sorry to moan on first post in ages!)
Feeling properly pregnant now, heartburn here with a vengence and bub feels like he is having a rave in there!
Have been trying to learn how to relax with natalhypnotherapy CD once you get over the womans annoying voice I think it will definately help, am willing to give anything a go!

Was interested to read about the books. Have bought Gina Ford and I am full of good intentions, but think I might get the baby whisperer one too.
I was rather sceptical about Ina May Gaskins book at first, but the more pregant I get the more I am interested in the more 'spiritual' approach to childbirth, hence the NatalHypnotherapy CD. I was such 'give me the drugs' type before I got pregnant, I might still be who knows! but kinda surprised myself with how much I want a natural birth now, I have even hired a doula!

Rindercella · 08/12/2009 20:54

Oh IWCAS, so sorry to hear about your friend. For someone to die so young is absolutely tragic.

You have made me ROFL though with your birth plan. Good luck with it and I hope you manage to stick to it

Beanz, welcome to the thread...will be using that code at Jojo!

at suggestion of not having a list! (I personally do find it really useful)

angfirsttimer · 08/12/2009 20:54

IWCAS - well done for being restrained in the face of the toxic bitch and sorry to hear about your friend.

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 21:06

Hi, beanz, nice to "meet" you .

Just feel the need to share: I am watching "First Wives Club", and, my goodness, it is dire!! Although Goldie Hawn playing the desperate actress of a certain age who had just a bit too much plastic surgery/botox/filler is quite funny.

Righto, as you were !

ilovegreenbeans · 08/12/2009 21:11

Labour bag? Yeah right. Not even sure what I have to use as a labour bag at the mo. Will have to check after Christmas.

Had another physio appt today for PGP- and it's really helping! Hooray for something good finally

Pixie, when my friend had twins, one of them was noticably bigger on the scans, so they decided on names separately for them and knew who was who when they were born, if that makes sense?

Arcadie, it's the one you missed! DD is called Hero told you it was unusual! We had really liked Lila if this one is a girl, which is my grandmother's name, but I think it's too trendy now, and a friend of the family has just announced that their dd due in Feb is to be called that. Back to the drawing board! (btw Rinders, India and Jasmine are lovely together)

donttrythisathome · 08/12/2009 21:47

Angfirsttimer very tempted by Jojomaman but need to make my "lists of necessities" before buying anything!

Loving all the names - we have such good taste on this thread (just watch now the next suggestion will be "Chardonnay").

Sorry about your friend IWCAS - unbelievable. I'm getting my Celvaplan jab next week. And please feel free to come here for support on the ex front - I just meant you might get some personal experiences over on the lone parents thread. I too have had my fair share of eejity useless "lovahs" though so don't think you're alone on that front!

Caitni my Irish mother had all hers in hospital too and didn't breastfeed, but she is hilariously very "with it" for an almost 70 year old from Cork City! She knows all about doulas and birth balls and homebirths etc from reading the Mills and Boons Medical Romances.

beanzmum · 08/12/2009 22:03

wow, IWCAS, hearing of someone so affected by SF as to die from complications makes me glad I decided to have the vaccination. Sounds like a brutal day

Glad to have been able to help out on the Widgey pillow - when I come across other good stuff, I'll be sure to share!

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 22:18

Goodness IWCAS, a rough day for you, and bloody hell you certainly have had more than your share of useless blokes. If you ever decide to 'get back out there' then you certainly deserve the next one to be a bona fide prince among men ... Or maybe little Ramsay will be all the prince you'll ever want!?

Sorry if I made you cry... I just wanted to stress really, that nothing prepares you for the rollercoaster of hormones, emotions, tiredness, anxiety, joy, confusion that cones in those first few days post-partum... It certainly took me by surprise, and really, you don't need anything else to deal with on top... So take care of you, yes? Before worrying about everybody else, ok?

And before I sound like a harbinger of doom (again) I should add that it doesn't last long, and you'll soon be able to handle all the other stuff again...

Pixie - we've been angsting over a name for one DD, so can only imagine the horror of having to not only come up with two, but two that work together... Aaargh!

As for nesting/preparing/shopping/packing hospital bag... Well can't do any of that as we don't have a house and most of the pertinent items (actually about 90% of our possessions!) are locked in a storage unit... Looks like I'll be doing all that the week before my due date then... But I'm not panicking... Oh no... !?&£@!!!!??!!@&@@?!!

TakeLovingChances · 09/12/2009 09:05

angfirsttimer I laughed out loud when you said it feels like your baby is having a rave inside you; that's just what my baby feels like too!

Thanks to all the lovely ladies who replied about my nosebleeds. Didn't have a bleed last night, don't see a midwife until 23/12 when I have my next scan (30 weeks), so will ask one then unless the bleeding gets more frequent.

As for labour bag??? No, not yet, just not yet. DH and I going to Scotland for a longweekend in mid-January (will need a doctors note to fly) and will need my 'labour bag' bag for that trip!

T

Tigresswoods · 09/12/2009 13:10

Hospital bag

I will be packing mine in the new year- not because I am worried just because I can!

Also am going on a girls weekend to Dorset (about an hour and a half from home) when I am 36 weeks so need to take it with me (just in case) along with maternity notes.

There's a big crowd going and 2 of them are midwives and 2 are health visitors so should anything happen I will be in good hands.

But I am sure it will be fine............

evitas · 09/12/2009 13:22

Oh dear... so many things to read!!

I was in hospital for 6 days. It was terrible: back pain + severe pain on the low abdominal right side, signs of an infection, pain killers, antibiotics, scans, MRI, ctg(s), two afternoons in the labour ward... very very scary!
But thank God everything is better, although the doctors don't have a clue about what happened. I came home last night and I need to rest and survive on painkillers for the next days. So fingers cross it wont happen again and that I'll manage to keep this baby inside for a few more weeks (I'm now 27+4).
I must say I have read terrible things about the New Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, but everyone (staff, nurses, midwives, doctors) they were all lovely, which was very reassuring for the big day!
I wont be able to go home for Xmas no more travel and flights. It will be a calm Xmas... just my husband and I.

Hope you all have a good day. I'll try to read all the previous posts!

xxx

Shroomer · 09/12/2009 14:34

Evitas - You've had an awful time of it this past week. Here's a big virtual hug in the form of a biscuit.

I hope that is the end of your health troubles, and that everthing is ok from now on.
