Evening all!

Smac, congratulations! You must be very proud! Not long to go now!

Pacific - I'm sorry you're having such a time of it! They'll all pick up for Christmas, I'm sure, and if they don't, you can do beans on toast for Christmas dinner! I had a near miss myself a couple of years ago and it really shook me! I think whisky is in order.

Jashook, can you not go in a couple of days when things have calmed down a bit? I do have to admit, though, I don't think I'd be brave enough to go anywhere far away at my size! I can hardly go for an hour without weeing, nevermind seven!

Scooby, I know an ironing fairy! He's called DH and he tries hard but isn't very good - you can have him if you like !

LuckySalem - you're welcome to join in! I'll give you the warning now, though - we grumble a lot and many of us are, I reckon, slightly insane! You're due the same day as me, although I'm likely to be early because I'm carrying twins.

I've had an awful day today. Mum, who's 85, has been in awful pain with her hiatus hernia and it's so miserable to watch her being so ill. Of course after she'd had her gaviscon-y stuff, there was nothing we could do, so it's just a question of sitting and waiting for it to go off. I don't like leaving them at night, since they live alone at the top of a hill and don't really know their neighbours. They try ever so hard to be self sufficient, but neither drives anymore and they both have macular degeneration so have failing eyesight. It's really, really tough.

Sorry, moan over!

beanzmum · 19/12/2009 19:30

Pixie your ironing fairy sounds like my dishwashing fairy ...

Sorry to hear about your tough day with your mum - hope she starts to feels better soon. Totally agree that its completely crap to not be able to do anything really to help. Sending empathy & sympathy in case it helps!

Speaking of feeling pregnant - I'm finding my own sense of my body size is being increasingly dwarfed by my actual size. Fortunately it's only really my bump that's growing (phew!) but I'm constantly being surprised by my profile in reflections. Looks like I'm wandering around with a volleyball stuffed up my top

LuckySalem · 19/12/2009 19:33

Grumbling is fine. I actually said to my DP today that I'm finding myself grumbling more this time than I did with DD.

Sorry to hear your mum's not well. Hope there is something that can be done for her soon.

mumbot · 19/12/2009 20:06

Welcome luckysalem how's your pregnancy been so far?

LuckySalem · 19/12/2009 20:44

Pregnancy hasn't been too bad. Definatly hard work with a toddler.
Worse this time than last time - more heartburn, tireder, fatter!! lol

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 20/12/2009 13:52

What do you all mean "grumbling"?? Therapeutic moaning is absolutely essential in times of strife !!
The important thing is to keep going inspite of adversity.... So, yes, KBO, KBO, KBO

Snow has arrived here, yeah!! I love it and it is the first time in years and years we have had snow that actually stays on the ground.
DH and I did a mahoosive Sainsbo shop this morning - 2 trolleys full and eyewatering amount of moola, but that should us be sorted for all the bigger items until after the New Year.

DS3 is really quite well and cheerful but still a weapon of biological warfare, yuck! He is the most showered/bathed child in this house. Washing machine is on all the time to ensure steady supply of vests/PJs/cot sheets etc, gah!!

Welcome, Lucky! Don't let us put you off . This is a great place for venting and advice on best nipple cream/mat towels/essentials for hospital bag .

I am on antibiotics again, this time for infected burn on my hand . I am also getting Vitamin B12 injection 2x/week in the hope this might boost my white cells...

Have a nice Sunday! Hope the next few days won't make for too hectic a run-up to Christmas.

JasHook · 20/12/2009 16:15

Welcome lucky and Jo

Pixie and Manda I would loved to have gone later, but I had family things booked like meals and pantomines and now I've missed them! Darn. I still get to have my Christmas meals though - do not come between me and my bread sauce....

Oh, and beanz I know the feeling. It only really hit me yesterday when I took a shower and caught sight of myself side-on in the mirror.

When I can't see my feet anymore, that'll be the kicker...

ilovegreenbeans · 20/12/2009 19:48

Hi Jo- I am north of the river too, but I'm actually in EAST London, which is a completely different country...

mumbot · 20/12/2009 20:37

Wow, lucky your pregnancy is identical to mine so far {grin]

I am 3 days in to a 'mumbot vs. getting a cold' war . I've had an itchy throat and the very beginnings of a dry cough and I'm determined to kick its arse before Christmas.

Ate my own bodyweight in oranges so far, anyone have any other effective remedies / prevention ideas?

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 20/12/2009 20:41

Mumbot, those Vicks First Defence things are rather effectice.

I always cheat when I have a cold - I have nasal sprays for my hayfever on repeat prescription and they work wonders clearing snot up!

mumbot · 20/12/2009 20:46

Hi pixietree I thought you couldn't take those sorts of things when preggie tho?

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 20/12/2009 20:52

Mumbot - haven't actually taken the First Defence since I've been pregnant - I didn't think of that - sorry, it's been a long day!

My nasal spray has been prescribed since the twins landed, though, so I hope that's safe!

Otherwise, hot ribena is always a good bet!

Keep fighting!

ArcadieAngelGabriel · 20/12/2009 22:43

Mumbot I too have the scratchy throat evil. I'm eating many many oranges. Only thing I've found that works at making me better is sleep. And I've had precious little of that.

Got up at 6 yesterday and drove to the arse end of the Lake District (Eskdale) with DH and DSIL for DH's cousin's wedding. Thankfully my parents were obliging enough to come up from Kent (which they're glad they did on Thursday not Friday) to look after the DCs but they were a little concerned that we were going to crash and burn or get snowed in so all Friday we got it in the neck about not going.

(Interestingly Dad has similar views to me not having a homebirth - he worries it'll all go horribly wrong)

Drove across country in minus 8 conditions to discover that Cumbria had no snow at all. So we had a good wedding ( mulled wine on the Eskdale railway) and set off straight afetr the speeches and got back to York at 1am. [tired]

Sadly the DPILs and 2 other DSILs decided not to come back last night but to set off this morning. In the words of Zach Braff from Scrubs... "Miiisssstaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakke" It's taken DSIL 7 hours to get back through the snow that fell this morning including needing her car towed up a hill that she took several attempts to get up on her own. T'other DSIL may not get home to Croydon before midnight.... [grumble]

That's about the long and short of my weekend. Have to entertain my DPs until Boxing Day now.

Shroomer · 21/12/2009 09:32

Doh. Managed to get into an argument yesterday with my mother in law about how the forthcoming baby should be educated about religion. WAY too soon to discuss that, and none of her f'ing business (yep, it's a touchy subject for me). I'm in the Richard Dawkins camp, and she goes to church the odd Sunday. Nuff said. Nope, not nuff said. There was something on the telly about the three wise men, and she said 'you'll have to explain all those lovely stories to your child'. Shouldn't have been enough to set me off, but it was. I said something about not indoctrinating/brainwashing my child about religion, and letting it make up its own mind about religion. I really do need to calm down and take a chill pill.

pureedchestnutsonanopenfire · 21/12/2009 09:47

No you don't. Parents of all varieties are a nightmare. My MIL told me she thought that it would be wrong for me to put a television in the baby's room when I was only 14 weeks pregnant at the time. My mother isn't sure they should be forced to learn golf. I think they have too much time on their hands......

Sariska · 21/12/2009 11:02

Have to go for extra growth scan today. Baby measuring 3 weeks small for dates. M/w thinks it's probably just how I make 'em - ds measured 2 weeks small all along - coupled with a transverse lie. I think she's right but it'll be good not to have to worry about it.

donttrythisathome · 21/12/2009 11:50

Hi everyone.

Just checking in. Em I'm sending best wishes your way and hoping that babs stays inside.

Just sneaked a peek at all your profiles and notices Mandas says "son of less than a month" in addition to her other two kids. Confused! Has she had her babs???!

In other news I read "What mothers so especially when it looks like nothing". Absolutely fab, so positive and kind and affirming - going to buy a copy (got it from the library) to re-read and re-read through the early months.

donttrythisathome · 21/12/2009 11:51

Sariska good luck with the scan. In a way I'm [envy} you'll get to see your babs again.

annamama · 21/12/2009 11:53

Hi and welcome Jo! I USED to live in N London but now live in the middle of nowhere (Kent), jealous... Hoping to move back soonish but it might be south of the river. I was in Tufnell Park, where are you? (just curious)

And welcome LuckySalem too!

SnowballProofMum - how's the cough? The pissing yourself bit is so degrading isn't it... yuk.

Pacific - how's your little sh*tter...? Production calmed down I hope? Hope you have calmed down after your near miss, that must have been so scary. Are you a veggie? (Just curious as I thought B12 is something you get mainly from meat.)

For anyone travelling, I would advise to make sure you have a plentiful supply of food, drink and nappies! (info for newbies: I once wee'd in a nappy while stuck in the snow on the M25...)

Pixie - hope your mum is a biSh better?

Beanzmum - I get surprised by my profile image in mirrors too now... aaargh help, what's that massive woman doing in my bathroom!

Shroomer - it's annoying when MILs tell you what to do... ignore it! However, I think those religous stories are sort of part of general knowledge and I want my DCs to know some of them and also some jewish stuff (DH is jewish) although neither of us is religous. If they ask "but is it true?!" I'll probably say that I don't know but some people think so... or something like that. I don't know what Richard Dawkins is, will google it!

We are going to Sweden on Wednesday and DD is at nursery tomorrow morning so we decided to do Christmas morning this morning! It was nice but she's still too young to open presents properly (20 m), needed help from eager parents. She got a kitchen (second hand from ebay of course) which she seems to like. And I got... a nursing chair!!! One of those glider chairs with a footrest. So comfy. It was from ebay too. But it's not your bogstandard beige one... DH also bought furry cow print material and had it covered with that! It looks so cool, you'll all be jealous! I'll see if I can upload a picture later.

Hello, all!

Still wintry here but thawing - this is the bit I do not like: the mess!
DS1 and 2 off to school with boots on though, that should help.

The battle of the poo is still being fought here but I think I am gradually winning ! DS3 still not quite right as well, he was back in bed by 10.30 this morning, v v unusual these days.

MIL/parents in general - do not get me started
As I keep telling myself: ignore, ignore, ignore - easier said than done, I know !

anna, have fun in Sweden, sounds like a lovely time of year to be there.
BTW, I am not vegetarian AND still taking my Pregaday as well, so no idea why my B12 was lowish. And these injections hurt, ouch! Oh, well, 2 down, 2 to go!

Very best of luck with growth scan, Sariska, hope everything is ok.

annamama · 21/12/2009 12:56

Sariska - good luck with the scan, let us know how it goes.

This is my new fab nursing chair

MandaHugNKiss · 21/12/2009 13:20

Dont I have no idea what's happened to my profile! I had pictures and it did say I had my two older kids and I think that I was pregnant. Somehow the pictures have gone and my 'less than a month old son' must be the bump. Curious. (I definitely didn't deliver yet. At least, I'm 99% sure I didn't...)

I'm now leaking from my nose! And when I say 'leaking' I mean three nosebleeds within the space of an hour. Also, it's an old wives tale/myth about them being linked to hypertension, right? I only ask as a few times over the last few days I've noticed these extremey bright kinda wiggly worm things in the periphery of my vision. Very fleeting - no feeling of dizziness. My blood pressure at my midwife appointment was a tiny bit over my BOOKING pressure, which she was understandably unconcerned about but up until the week before it was waaaaaay under my booking level. And she was naughty (just forgot/off day?) because she put NAD for my urine but I didn't even give her a sample (and she didn't ask).

I'm worrying over nothing, I suppose.

Anna have a great time in Sweden! Can't say I wish I was there (I hate snow Stupid boys when I was a kid put me off it by ALWAYS shoving snow down my front or back. And throwing snowbals that hurt (ice chips or stones in them I guess). Hmmm, maybe I don't hate snow so much as I hate horrible boys...) but I'm sure you'll all have a blast.

sariska Really does sound like that's the way you make 'em if dc1 was the same. Still, doesn't hurt to check and yay for getting another peek!

shroomer Gah, well, yes religion is one of those touchy points. I'm thankful my MIL of the two I have never voiced or intimated any strong opions about anything other than that the children should be happy. I seem to have lucked out again as DP's Mum seems the same.

MandaHugNKiss · 21/12/2009 13:21

Gosh, my above post contains a blatant lie! I've not had three nosebleeds in an hour. But I have had three in the space of about 12 hours...

MandaHugNKiss · 21/12/2009 13:22

Oh! And I wasn't picking it. I swear! Two were whilst I slept and one in the bath.

MummyElk · 21/12/2009 13:45

afternoon all!
sorry been setting up my christmas familylovenest down in devon where we are spending much of the festive time - my mum lives there and so we've left DD whilst we both dashed back up to bristol to work. Long story but we have a lovely cottage to hand whenever we need it so we've been decorating it etc, which is GREAT because means we get some family time and also some control over the telly remote independence from my mum!
I've been throwing up since 4am this morning!! Can't imagine it's anything i ate so perhaps pacifics little man has been sending me bad vibes?! poor little thing. so i am NOT in work, and i have a lot of washing to do due to my inadequate pelvic floor not quite taking the strain of projectile vomiting so well.
But i'm chipper and enjoying the peace. And, some people are having a much worse time of it I can't stop thinking about my poor friend whose mum lost her all too short fight with cancer this weekend, right before christmas, he's TOO young to lose his mummy

beanz i know i'm a few days out here but agree with what people said about your MiLs coming etc, sounds like you have lots of it planned anyway, but a few ground rules don't harm - eg: no visiting before 10am for the first month... You can always resort to putting notes on the front door saying please no visitors we've had a bad night etc (works wonders and also saves lives of delivery men who don't mean to ring the doorbell and start the dog barking and get confronted by a Tear-Streaked, Overly-Hormonal, Nipple-Leaking, Frantic-Faced, Crazy-Flitting-Eyed New Mother brandishing weapons Ready To Kill) (shudders at vague memories, must have been someone else)
I suspect actually that she might prove to be quite helpful, you never know, but sometimes having someone around to lend a logical ear to things, perhaps cook (even the rankest meal tastes A-MAAAA-ZING when you're knackered) and even put the washing machine on.... fingers crossed for you....

Anyone got a good festive name for me please? I know i have an elk in there so it Shouldn't Be That Hard but really, i can't do it. rubbish mummy elk.

Off to drink more boiled water. Baby loving it?!!! bless

sorry for essay
