Mummyelf?

Manda PHEW!

MandaHugNKiss · 21/12/2009 14:16

Okay, re-uploaded pictures/sorted profile a little. Shouldn't be so odd now!

I've also included a picture from my last scan and a snap of DP for anyone who wants to nose Shame he's dressed as a cowboy though.

designerbaby · 21/12/2009 14:46

Manda - a toe sucker? Are you going to have problems with this one in about 14 years time? Will I need to warn my DD2?

CUTE DP by the way even dressed as a cowboy. In fact if I were you I might be tempted to insist he ALWAYS dress as a cowboy... But, er... maybe I'll shut up now...

Sorry everyone seems to be poorly with coughs clds and upchuckingall over the place - that's just not fair.

All in all I'm in quite good shape at the moment (sorry) although finding it increasingly hard to sleep at night as hips/pelvis so bleedin' uncomfortbale. Plus also DD2 is ridiculously active, and currently seems to have some part of her wedged up under my ribs...

Also is anyone else ridiculously short of breath? Makes me quite panicky at times - which clearly doesn't help.

Have to admit that both DDs have/will be taken to church fro the age of about 2 weeks and regularly 'indoctrinated' .

Ah well, DD1 seems to love it there, not sure abot her theology, but she loves the singing, having lots of places to hide from mummy (under the pulpit is her current fave, with a couple of her little (boy)friends and the fact that there's usually sweets or biscuits of some kind floating about...

Interestingly, this is in direct opposition to both sets of grandparents who have no truck whatsoever with that kind of thing...

I'll mist certainly give her the option to tell us to stick it when she's old enough to make up her own mind if she so chooses (I certainly did) even though I'm obviously hoping she doesn't...

Best not get me going on Dawkins, loathsome little man, IMHO. His science may (or indeed may not) be ok, but his theology is SO off-whack it makes me cross that he feels in a position to write about it at all. Suffice to say the God he describes (and attacks) isn't one I recognise in the slightest. And I do wish he'd stop telling me what I believe as a Christian, when he clearly hasn't the foggiest idea. Grrr.

And I also wish he'd find a sense of humour...

Ooh. Look at that. I got going anyway. . This probably not the place for theological debate (there's another thread for that, I believe...) So... anyone want to talk about piles instead?
.

Or maybe I'll just get back to work...
[slinks off and wonders if she'll have now killed the thread for the day]

p.s. Annamama - Loving the cow-hide nursing chair! I have secret fantatsies of a union-jack covered chair in my new house, but suspect DH may veto that... for a variety of reasons...

designerbaby · 21/12/2009 14:47

Gees. Enough typos? It's like I'm typing in code... Sorry.

swingsofglory · 21/12/2009 15:10

Hi all,

Here's sending you some virtual vitamins / tonics / cold / cough and D&V remedies for everyone who needs them. You have my deepest sympathies. I have been a snot factory for about 3 weeks now. Production is slowing down but i am still keeping Kleenex in business. it's sooooooooo dull.

DD and i are just back from a week down in Cornwall with my parents which was fun and thankfully she slept (relatively) well too.

Funnily enough the God question came up there as well - I suppose it's the time of year. I'm not adverse to the odd carol and DH and I got married in church this year and all the people there were extremely nice. However, I wasn't overly comfortable with my mother getting out the 'Bible for Children' that apparently she used to read to me and my sis as a child. My sister apparently liked the story of the crucifixion as a tot! She seems pretty well-balanced as an adult though, you'd never know. Anyway, I know DH wouldn't be too chuffed about DD being 'indoctrinated' by my mother so i had to ask her to stop. It's a tricky one though as I don't feel hugely strongly either way. Sitting on the fence as usual...

We've braved Sainsbury's this morning and have bought half the shop so hopefully we won't have to go back until after Xmas. You could still move up and down the aisles which was nice. I am still scarred by last year's experience when due to extreme crowding DH and DD had to park up the trolley in a less popular aisle (loo rolls or something) while I dashed out on raids all over the shop to get what we needed. Eugh - shudder.

On the plus side I've only got Xmas cards for neighbours to do now - got all the presents already wrapped, so we're getting there. I know now what i want - annamamma's chair!

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 21/12/2009 15:19

Afternoon!

Arcadie - hope the cold's not materialised and that you manage to fight it off! Mulled wine sounds lovely - I've got some in the cupboard which I keep promising myself I'll dig out, but it's never the same at home. We're probably going up to York, weather permitting, on Wednesday - I love the shopping there, and the minster is just amazing!

Shroomer - how you bring the baby up is your choice! Letting it make up its own mind is a good idea but also remember that it is part of you and so if you want to share your ideas when the time comes, then that's also fine!

Sarkiska - I hope the baby's OK - my best friend's two were both treated as premature when they were born, even though she knew that they were on time. They were just small. They're perfectly OK now - no problems at all!

Annamama - you've not been around much lately - are you OK? Mum is OK now, thanks - she's just not well on the whole, which I expect at her age. It's just making sure they've got the help that they need that's the problem. When they're ill it just kind of compounds it. Nursing chairs are wonderful - I've got one in the nursery and they're just lovely to sit on in the middle of the night doing the feeds.

Pacific - Your DS are still at school? Mine broke up on Thursday and I thought everyone else did on Friday? Glad your DS is so much better - I can't think of anything worse!

Manda - nosebleeds are no fun! I've never had them badly but dad has had to have his cauterised in the past and it wasn't pleasant. I was going to say that you need to get yourself seen quickly if you'd had three in an hour, but I guess three in twenty four isn't quite on the same scale! I was imagining scenes from Chainsaw Massacre!

MummyElk - cottage sounds fab! We've been looking for somewhere in the country for a couple of years, but never really found the right place. Projectile vomitting sounds fun too - don't sound it this way, though - I could do without that and a houseful of excited DC!

DB - Oh dear, you don't sound like you're having too much fun healthwise - shortness of breath doesn't sound very good - have you seen the GP about it? We've always been Christian, but not always that actively involved, although we do try to go to church when we've got the time. Are you C of E?

Done the big Christmas shop this morning without fainting in Waitrose, which I had quite expected to do! What is it with supermarkets and pregnancies? They must be the worst place! Nearly done everything - I've managed to get rid of the DC this afternoon to friends/ballet and so I'm doing last minute wrapping of their presents and eating my own weight in mince pies!

evitas · 21/12/2009 15:57

Hi all,

everyone is getting ready for Xmas!
Manda - I also suffer from nosebleeds, but they've been constant since the beginning of the pregnancy. I guess all the extra blood doesn't help. It happens a lot during the bath (probably the higher temperature and moisture)
Pixie - I also went to waitrose this morning and it seemed like a busy Saturday morning!!I didn't manage to buy everything, I need to go back tomorrow.
Sarkiska - I hope the baby's OK.

in laws... mine were suppose to come for 3 weeks after the baby is born. I was a little bit nervous about that, thinking how it would be having them in our small flat for such a long time, so I asked my DH if they could stay just two weeks. I explained him that I'll have to stay with them all day while his working, plus the baby... He was very nice and said "ok, 10 days is enough!" Bless him!

Had my 28 week appointment and met my new midwife (nicer than the other one). She told me my iron values were low so I need to take iron tablets twice a day. Despite the fact that everyone tells me how small my bump is (I hate when people say "Oh... but your tummy/bump is so small, are you sure the dates are correct?" ), it was measuring ok - 28 cm... so I was happy with that . Nonetheless I'll have a private scan in two weeks time.

Getting ready for my first Xmas without my family, but my first Xmas with snow !!

annamama · 21/12/2009 15:59

Evitas - try Spatone! (liquid natural iron, you can buy it in Boots)

OP posts:
Caitni · 21/12/2009 17:02

Afternoon ladies

Evitas I second Anna - spatone is great. I add it to my OJ in the morning and can't even taste it!

Anna what a gorgeous chair! Your DH is so lovely to have gotten it customised so brilliantly - lucky you! Have lots of fun in Sweden

BPM hope the coughing is better (am so with you on the lack of dignity re coughing/wee - tis both horrible and annoying).

Arcadie glad you made it back from Cumbria unscathed though at your other family members (mis)adventures getting home in the snow! Hope the cold stays away.

Sariska good luck with the scan - hope it is just the awkward transverse lie [fingers crossed emoticon]

Pacific hope your DSs got to enjoy the snow (send them to London if they want anymore - I can currently see more snow piling down as I sit at my desk here in Kings Cross! - though hope your DS3 has stopped being a poo machine! Poor you, for all the extra cleaning, and poor him too.

Pixie am glad you're so organised with all your christmas stuff! Can't believe it's christmas week already...

Manda I was also at 3 nosebleeds in an hour! So glad to hear it's been over 12 hours. I don't know much about the high BP, but I'd be worried by those squiggly things you mentioned - worth a call to your midwife perhaps?

So I'm still a snot factory. This head cold has been the worst I've had for years, but at least it didn't develop into flu - could it be because my immunity is suppressed by pregnancy? Or is it just the lack of lemsip/sudafed that makes it extra hard to bear? I work up today feeling a bit better only to make it into work (having been off since Wed afternoon) and have the entire office be like "er, you should awful and seem quite ill. You should go home...". I like to think I'm a trooper with head colds (as opposed to my man-flu-tastic DH) but this one really knocked me out. Thank god for saline nasal sprays - an utter life (and sanity) saver!

And I've booked tickets to take DH to see It's a Wonderful Life at the Screen on the Green in Islington this Wed evening...I think Christmas will officially begin for me then

Anyway, I'm scarpering off work early as the snow is looking quite serious here and people are starting to leave early. Any excuse to leave early, but you just never know with tubes/trains and snow!

rebeccacad · 21/12/2009 17:14

Hello everyone

feeling festive now that I've finished work for Christmas (and only 6 weeks more after I go back - not that am counting down).

My new year's resolution is to be a better MN-er - I know I'm rubbish at posting regularly.

All well here though - just weighing up whether to venture out to yoga or if the blizzard outside means it's a bad idea. I thought we'd missed all the snow in east london but it decided to show up today in time for our drive to birmingham tomorrow!

Sorry to hear so many of you have colds - hope a bit of a Christmas rest is a good cure.

R x

scooby26 · 21/12/2009 19:43

Hi all

Quite jealous of those of you finishing work for xmas and altogether. I'm at work all through xmas and new year and up to 39 weeks. Granted the 39 weeks was my choice as the longer I last out before, the longer I get off afterwards!!

Anna - loving your chair!!

I spoke to a girl I met at active birth who had a 4d scan 2 weeks ago - due the same day as me. She loved it. We had poo pood teh idea as a waste of money but someone I know has had it and loved it I'm obsessed- so managed to ring my hospital today and the nice consultant there (who does them privately for cash- no suprise eh!) has volunteered to do it tomorrow for us - what a cool early xmas present!!

Hope you're all well!!

xx

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 21/12/2009 22:11

Wow ladies it's been a busy afternoon on this thread. I've got a clingy feverish girl so I was lurking but unable to type as she has been having mummy cuddles on the sofa for most of the afternoon. I've got my mw appt tomorrow at 9.20 and I'm worried about skating all the way there. We live at the end of a cul de sac and despite it being a bus route they don't ever grit it and I hate driving when it's all slippy and skatey cos I'm a big woos!
There is not a chance that I will remember to mention everyone but annamama I love your chair and the funky fabric, my DH would never have the imagination for that ! My DD however is also 20m and is definitely able to open pressies, she has snaffled 2 off the kitchen table already! One I rewrapped and the other I let her have. Enjoy your holiday!
sariska I hope your scan was okay today and bubs is growing fine and your placenta is doing the necessary - I'm at the other end of the scale and a fortnight ago was measuring 2 weeks big - I think I just make 'em big! We'll see what mw says tomorrow. Emlou you are still in my thoughts and hope your bubs is getting what it needs too.
Manda glad you haven't delivered early and not popped by to mention it to us, haven't had a nosey at the photos but might do in a minute. Hope the nosebleeds have settled
I will definitely stay out of the religion debate
Pacific glad to hear you are winning the battle of the poo!
Pixie well done you for getting the Xmas shop out the way. I think I might try tomorrow . . . . I've started the list.
mummyelk how about MummyTheRedNosedElk or MummyElkWithFrostyAntlers.

ArcadieAngelGabriel · 22/12/2009 09:36

Pixie How exciting to be going to York for the day! Watch out for the snow. It is still deep and crisp and even.

Let me know if you need any help deciding where to go.

Swings on the religion debate. Whilst I am a Christian, (born again, happy and clappy, Spirit-filled etc etc) I would still campaign for it to be your choice how you raise your kids. Obviously to me whilst it's vitally important my kids get to know Jesus from me and DH and our church and friends, I would never think of offerring to share about him with anyone else's DCs without checking with them first. I certainly wouldn't welcome my atheist brother and sister teaching my three that there is no God so likewise I would hope I wouldn't teach their kids otherwise unless given permission.

Conversation with DH about what he'd mind or not?

MandaHugNKiss · 22/12/2009 09:43

All this talk of York...

My mum loves to go there - she lives in Carnforth so not too far of a trek (well, for some reason oop there a couple of hours in the car isn't as hard going as it is here). Which reminds me, I must order her flowers (it's her brthday on Christmas Eve).

annamama · 22/12/2009 09:50

Thanks for the compliments re my cow-chair, I have passed them on to a blushing DH...

Pixie - thanks for asking, I'm fine. Yes I have posted a little less than at my peak mumsnet addiction, I'm trying to do some work from home (with limited success) and also have been writing a "mummy blog" in swedish, it's a really big thing over there, everyone seems to have a blog so I thought I gotta have one too. At the moment I think I have ONE reader who is not a friend or family, so I'm almost famous.

Those of you who have Swedish friends, if they have kids, perhaps they want to read my blog...

Manda - you and your DP are both cute, I'm sure you'll produce a cute child! I also heard that nosebleed is not related to high BP. Me I never ever have nosebleeds but have had them a few times in pg. Wouldn't worry too much, has it stopped now? Maybe you were picking in your sleep! The thing in your vision sounds like onset of migraine... can be hormone related, apparently some people only get the visuals, not the headache.

Snow... well I'm a snowchild, I've always loved it. I could ski before I could even walk (almost). And since my 20s I'm a keen snowboarder but haven't been able to do it for like 3 years, baaah! Will go sledding with DD for sure when we're in Sweden. However my ski pants of course don't zip up so I might end up with a lot of snow in places it's not supposed to go!

MummyElk - familylovenest sounds great! The other things you reported sound not so great...

DB - I'm starting to get shortness of breath too now, in my last pg it was my worst pg symptom towards the end. Think it's just the lack of space for your lungs...?

Also - I have to piss like all the time! No infection. Just lack of space again I think. Annoying. Anyone else?

Evitas - well done reducing the stay of your inlaws!

Caitni - hope you get rid of the cold soon! I think there's a few of us who have had worse colds than normal, so I guess that's normal. And hope you got home ok from a snowy kings cross... It might even have looked pretty there then, eh?

Sariska - how was your scan?

Scooby - how was your 4d scan?

Smac - hope your naughty present opening DD gets better and that you made it to the MWs.

Arcadie - that sounds very sensible!

No one has mentioned names lately, any new thoughts? I've already made my mind up (Isabelle nn Issy), just lurking on the baby names board anyway in case there's something we've missed... DD keeps saying "baby Issi-BELLE" so she clearly approves.

OP posts:
Sariska · 22/12/2009 10:14

Hello All,

Extra scan yesterday was OK, fortunately. Baby is small but head and abdomen are in proportion - and femur length is actually above average, which is a good sign. They may give me another scan at 33 weeks just to be safe but, for now, there is no reason for me to worry - and homebirth is still on the table, so to speak!

evitas · 22/12/2009 10:41

Great news, Sariska!

snowflakesarahandco · 22/12/2009 12:15

great new Sariska, glad all went well,

love the name Isabelle, BTW, we are having a DS and think we have chosen Elliott!!!! Middle name is def Joseph- so i think we are sorted
(i would Really like Henry but we already have a Harry!!!LOL

my DS seems to approve (he is 4) and DD really doesnt mind at 22 months!!!

oh BTW we have had her appointment for her pre-op- 2 days before her operation 5th Jan at 9-50!!!!! i have started to pack a bag but my stomach churns everytime and i just give up!!!!

anyway enough about me!!!!!

hope all you feeling poorly are getting better, xxxx

SnowballProofMum · 22/12/2009 12:57

Hello everyone. Enjoying the start of a couple of weeks off work. Phew - I 've bloody earned it!! DS2 isa t nursery so it's quite nice to spend some quality time with DS1.

Sympathy (and empathy) to all those with colds. I couldn't cope without Otrivine nasal spray - both my GP and pharmacist said they were fine in pg. So little actually enters the blood stream.

My cough is still just as bad- my third trip to the GP yesterday has finally resulted in some antibiotics - I really hope this does it. It is really really getting me down. At least the matenity pads have come in handy (and have been restocked a few times since). DS1 asked what I was putting in my pants: 'sometimes mummy's need nappy's too' . We don't have a spare room so I am having to sleep in DS1's really uncomforatble bed as I am coughing so much!

I am fortunate that I also have an ironing fairy - (DH) - he is very good but it is definitely at the expense of speed - the pile has really mounted up and I can't really nag him!

Everyone ready for X=mas?

My mum asked if we could have a baking session. Translated as - if I brign the ingredients will youmake the mince pies?'. MP's are done but disintegrated when I removed them from the tray. Hey ho! I should start ont he saudage rolls but have noticed that DS1 has fallen asleep in front of the telly - I know I should wake him but I see an opportunistic nap on the way!!!

SnowballProofMum · 22/12/2009 12:59

ps - anyone know what to do with a carp? In a fit of impulsivity I just bought a carp for dinner in Tescos!

mumbot · 22/12/2009 13:12

Really pleased for you sariska

Hi snowball hope your antibio's work soon, not fun being ill, esp at xmas time too. I set off my own coughing fit this morning, I put on the tiniest bit of Clinique's aromatics perfume and it was so strong it set me off coughing! Not good when you're battling a cold. Carp...erm batter and a deep fat fryer? Mmmm chips.

xxxx

sneaks in after months of lurkage
Hello! I just thought I'd be brave and join the thread, after lurking on the March thread for months . I'm Fay, due 17th March, and I've really enjoyed reading the threads so far, and realising I'm not alone on this exciting trip. Hope everyone is well on this very chilly day.

JasHook · 22/12/2009 17:05

just a quick welcome fayzal from me. Then I'm getting back to my hot water bottle!

annamama · 22/12/2009 18:44

Oh, the thread went all quiet after Fay decided to stop lurking... welcome from me too!

OP posts:
MandaHugNKiss · 22/12/2009 18:52

Heh, if fay has been lurking for a few months, she'll be well aware we have our quiet moments...

I've been distracted by DD's love life going tits up. She's been with her boyfriend a year and half and they broke up today. Bad timing, as a) it's christmas, b) she's going away with her dad tomorrow until the 28th (ds, too - my first year without them. Not sure how I feel about it... been in denial ). She cried lots (even though she ended it) and so I felt spured to give her this www.thorntons.co.uk/ThorntonsSite/product/christmas_gifts_3_for_2/7186.htm and, lo, the healing power of fudge, chocolate and raisins seems to have helped. She's playing x box with ds (which is virtualy unheard of) so she's clearly not herself, but not a gibbering wreck in the corner.

Ah, young love.
