Lolasmum · 23/07/2005 20:10

MrsD, I've just realised that our DDs share a birthday! Mine was also the 15th.

Harriett, I really sympathise with your frustration. One of the midwifes I saw said that champagne can help bring on labour. That sounds like rubbish to me, but I thought a glass wouldn't do any harm. The worst it can do is make you feel better!

mrsdarcy · 23/07/2005 22:07

I hadn't realised that either, Lolasmum! How is Bessie doing?

Harriett · 24/07/2005 08:14

lolasmum, that is music to my ears, having been tortured by a lack of Champagne for the past 9 months- I work for a Wine importers and part of my job is to write all those tasting notes for new wines- quite good fun, but not if you haven't got a glass to hand- I've been making it all up for months, so god only knows what drivel I've come out with! So sod it, I will have a glass tonight on your orders!
as you may notice my hormones have rocketed skywards today- I am allowing myself to get a bit excited now, plus there is now an official reason to clean like a maniac!

So good luck to mirashark for tomorrow as well (if she hasn't already popped), and Pamina (I bet she has already) and to LaurelLeaf too- the torture is nearly over for the 14thers!

Hope pinkmama is holding on- and is there anyone else I have forgotten left to drop?
Come on babies!

hoxtonchick · 24/07/2005 09:24

pinkmama has had her baby!! a little girl, all is well, i'll let her provide the details. i am so happy for her .

Eulalia · 24/07/2005 10:51

Oooh congrats pinkmama!!! But how dare you go before me we were due the same time! I am a bit although I know it would be easier if I go a bit late. Look forward to hearing your story.

Well I shouldn't disappear for a few days as I am missing the news. To update on my position - I had my growth scan on Friday and it was fine - baby is average sized. It's just because I am a small build and fairly thin that the bump is measuring small. Since the I've been v busy doing last minute nesting and hardly sitting down.

For those about to have inductions - don't worry. I was induced with my 2nd at 42 weeks and it was easy peasy. I only needed one dose of prostin and nature took over and everything else was natural. If you are late then your body is much more receptive - cervix more ripe. I think the difficult stories you hear are when baby is early and maybe not ready to come out. Good luck!

Tessiebear · 24/07/2005 11:26

Just popped in to say Conratulations MommyD (welcome to the 3 boy club!!!!)
Congratulations to all the other July babys too!!!!
From a June mum with a 12th July baby

hoxtonchick · 24/07/2005 11:41

i agree eulalia, both my babies have been induced early for medical reasons (ds was 39+1, dd was 38+2) & neither of them were particularly ready to come out. i think being induced when you're 40+ weeks is a different prospect entirely.

mirashark · 24/07/2005 12:24

congratulations pinkmama!

It's a relief to hear an actual baby has been born, it's been a few days and we were having a bit of a drought there!

Can't wait to hear how you get on Harriet, I am going in tomorrow just for a full check and sweep etc. and feel I will probably have to be induced and was feeling a bit worried about it but my Mum is here and she was saying she had to be induced having me and it was a great labour, no pain relief etc so it doesn't have to be bad. Can't wait to hear how you get on Harriet, exciting day tomorrow.

Good luck XXX

Lolasmum · 24/07/2005 13:30

Congratulations Pinkmamma!

Harriett, an ex boyfriend of mine worked for a wine importer. I remember being very upset when I found out that he wrote what goes on the back of a bottle without tasting it. That is all ignorant people like me have to go by! Do I take it that this is standard practice? Best of luck for tomorrow.

MrsD, Bessie is doing fine. She's feeding like crazy during the evening and then only waking up once at night. When she was weighed last Thursday she had already put on 3ozs. Things are definitely a lot easier than with dd1. How is your Harriett? How are your older 2 getting on with her? Dd1 is very enthusiastic about 'her baby', but she's a bit too enthusiastic and its rather scary watching her with Bessie.

mrsdarcy · 24/07/2005 15:52

Harriet is very settled during the day and feeds every 3 - 4 hours, and sleeps in between. She has a slightly restless spell around 10 - 11pm and then sleeps through with feeds at 3 - 4am-ish and again at 6 - 7 ish. I can't believe how much easier everything is this time round (so far!). With the boys I was in agony feeding them and they were both quite colickly for a couple of weeks. Although I guess I'm just so relieved to move on from the horrors of the past 15 monrhs, that even colic probably wouldn't phase me too much!

The boys really like her but DS2 in particular is being FOUL to his grandmother. My in-laws have escapes to a hotel for the weekend! DS2 gets his pronouns muddled up and asks if he can "give she a hug"! I know what you mean about ove-zealous attention from small children - it's nerve-wracking isn't it?

We will need a post-natal thread soon won't we ladies (and Hub!)? Shall we hang on and all "go over" together or would those still waiting rather focus on pre-labour things? Any views?

mrsdarcy · 24/07/2005 15:58

ooooh, I forgot to mention...

I took aconite during my labour, early on when I suddenly got all panicky and realised I was in for a rather difficult night. I wasn't really expecting much from it, but the panic subsided straight away. I have also been taking arnica since delivery and my stitches are healing really well with no bruising - which I'm very pleased about considering how quick it all was.

If there was a cure for for scary tummy I'd be REALLY impressed!

hub2dee · 24/07/2005 16:09

Hi all,

Just to say haven't forgotten about all the July mammas still to pop. I haven't been keeping up 100% either so not quite sure where we're all at. Camille is doing well. Piling on the weight - feeding well, though mostly from the bottle - and is fabulously sleepy and floppy in between feeds. She seems to have a more restful sleep on our chests than in the crib. Everyone who sees her goes mad cos they've never seen a baby as small, which is kinda nice / cute, and also kinda irritating / upsetting IYSWIM, all at the same time, LOL.

DW's mastitis is on the mend (it's nasty ladies. Remember to feed / express regularly especially if out and about. Also if you're unsure of excellent latching position, and fear you might not be draining well, hit a baby café or see a bf counsellor. The temperature / shivers aren't funny at all ).

I'll keep an eye out for a 'July 05 babies' thread in postnatal and catch you all around. It's been a fun antenatal thread. Thank you for all the advice / support.

X

If anyone missed the piccies of the babba / me / dw, they're here .

mrsdarcy · 24/07/2005 16:23

Well, Hub, the first thing I thought when I saw the pictures of Camille is that she is beautiful, not that she is small! I bet I'm not the only one too.

Sorry about DW's mastitis but I'm glad it's clearing up. I hope her BP is coming down.

pinkmama · 24/07/2005 17:54

this is mr pinkmama-pinkmama can't come to the computer as she is upstairs with our lovely 8lb 6oz baby girl, violet grace, born at 6.54 this morning on the bathroom floor-too quick for the midwives to arrive, so delivered by her fairly bemused dad. whole process took under an hour from start to finish. all well. the pink mama of three will no doubt up date you when she is next downstairs. love to all who have yet to produce....

mirashark · 24/07/2005 18:09

WOW! That sounds like a story! an HOUR???
Congratulations to you all, and well done Dad! amazing.

All you mums and dads, don't leave us yet! Don't abandon us for post-natal yet, but please continue regaling us with post-natal issues, it's an insight into the future! Can we all go together - we won't be long, we promise
XXX

hub2dee · 24/07/2005 19:26

mrsd - I didn't mean the people on here, LOL... it's the RL 'omg' that can be a bit funny.

congrats to mr and ms pink on their home-delivered bundle !

hub2dee · 24/07/2005 19:32

sorry - bp improving nicely. Reducing the meds. Hopefully another few weeks should be all that's needed.

Forgive my foul mood - babba has been rather unsettled all PM as loads of visitors etc., and more due tonight... also I buggered up my neck from doing all the night feeds the other day when dw had her mastitis fever. Must go chill and get some sleep.

Harriett · 24/07/2005 19:59

oh my goodness, mr pinkmama- what an amazing thing to happen! I hope you're recovering from the shock! many congratulations and love to you all, can't wait to get pinkmama's gory details!

I agree with mirashark about all going over to postnatal together- it is lovely to have you still with us and we promise not to be too long about it!

lolasmum- writing wine tasting notes is a real skill that literally takes years to perfect- it includes many many hours of tasting practice and it's a very difficult job to do indeed... do I sound convincing or like a bit of an alco...?! maybe one day we can all get together and have a practice!

getting a bit nervous now about tomorrow and excited too- hope I'll have some great news for you all really soon.
love to you mums and babes and babes-to-be! x

pinkmama · 24/07/2005 20:28

mr pink mama again-pinkmama says love and best wishes to those going in tomorrow, and heartily recommends one hour labours

hoxtonchick · 24/07/2005 21:00

pinkmama, you STAR, an hour. wow. and well done dh too (dp looked impressed but scared when i told him!). lots & lots of love to you all. send photo asap .

good luck all those going in tomorrow - just think, those yummy babies will be out soon.

we took dd to her first festival today, in her brand new wilkinet (highly reccommended, much better than the baby bjorn). she slept through most of it.... but was enormously admired. ds took all the admiration his sister was getting fairly well. right, must go & rouse dp as our pizzas will be here soon.

xxx

mrsdarcy · 24/07/2005 21:26

Wow Pinkmama! What a brilliant birth story. Congratulations to you and your DH. I love her name- very pretty.

Good luck to everyone going in tomorrow.

Let's all go onto the post natal thread together!

hoxtonchick · 24/07/2005 22:29

i agree mrsd, i think we should all make a grand postnatal entrance together!

mirashark · 25/07/2005 08:33

Had a few contractions overnight, and NO sleep for some reason. The pains were not much to write home about and I was willing them to intensify - that's one advantage to going overdue, you start to think I WANT PAIN, GIVE ME PAINNNNNNNNN!!! Got up and showered etc but nothing much doing now, pah! Ah well, if nothing else I have a scan to look forward to at 1pm, can't complain. Hope everyone is doing well and hope it's an eventful day/week.
love and labour vibes to everyone! XXX

merryberry · 25/07/2005 08:58

mirashark you've reminded me of one of my fave ever jokes:

masochist meets a sadist and says 'oh, beat me, beat me!' and the sadist says 'no'.

drum roll, I thank you...

congratulations Pinkmama, and jealous vibes to HC for getting out of the house with her newborn...I've still been limited to l'il local excursions by sheer nerves. am bloody glad ai decided against my trip to the huge card shop on tottenham court toad the day of the warren street incident though...

H2D, love the pics! As a MN newbie, when do we all start up in the post-natal club?

I'm off to my first thing with baby in public as it were today - a breastfeeding cafe. I'm as nervous as a virgin debutante in a barracks. Wish me well.

Bagpuss30 · 25/07/2005 08:59

Morning everyone .

Huge congratulations pinkmama and dh. Your labour sounds a bit scary but I'm glad it went OK and that your new dd is here safely. Lovely name also (dh wouldn't let me use Grace and it is one of my favourites) .

Agree that we should wait for the last few before starting the postnatal thread. Who is left to go now?

Hub, you post nearly made me cry (watch out I'm very hormonal at the moment ). It feels a bit like the end of an era for me as I don't think I shall be having any more babies now (that is unless dh has a major change of mind).

Hoxtonchick, how easy is the wilkinet to use? I tried to put ds2 in the baby bjorn but he just screamed like mad and it seems quite tight on him too. I keep thinking that I might have to look at another one but I still have to sort out my "buggy to huge for the boot of the car to be practical" dilemma and also to find some night attire for him that will fit over his night nappies.

Mrsd, we went out for a meal at the weekend too. I must admit that while having three children is fab, the putting in and taking out of car seats and strapping in of children is a little annoying. It seems to take twice as long with ds2 as well. Don't be scared of driving a big car - I have a nice medium sized one (a c-max, I think Pamina has one too) which seems to do the job nicely, although I don't have great hair . p.s. If you find a cure for scary tummy then please let me know .

Good luck to all going in to hospital/having last minute antenatal appointments today - I hope you have some news for the rest of us very soon .
