c'mon Pamina, what's the news we are excited

pinkmama · 26/07/2005 12:28

HC - that is amazing! DD is amazed at the size of my stomach still (2 days on!), think she thought it would go straight down!

OOh, will keep checking for Pamina and Mirashark's news!

webwoman05 · 26/07/2005 14:17

A quick update from me. I have posted on birth announcements about the arrival of Harry John on 18 July at 1.58pm, by c section but here is a bit more detail. We got to hospital for 8.00am and were delayed by emergency c section who obviously needed to be seen straight away. We finally got seen I think a little after midday where the anaesthetist attempted about 6 times to get epidural into my spine - I was contorting myself into positions that I didn't know existed (especially being 39 weeks pregnant!). She then said that they would have to give me a general (I naturally burst into tears at this point). DH then asked if someone else could have a go. They got another anaesthetist in and she clicked my back into place and it took first time! So pleased and relieved as really didn't want to be knocked out and for DH to miss the birth and first cuddle!

I think the first anaesthetist must have felt really guilty for not managing to get the epidural to work as she kept visiting me!

Harry was fine and a good weight at 7lbs 1oz but unfortunately lost quite a lot of weight in those first few days before my milk kicked in (also I sufffered quite a lot of sickness - due to morphine given at his birth so having fasted from midnight Sunday didn't eat again til Tuesday morning!) Cornflakes have never tasted so good!

I then got a slight infection in my c section wound - which seems ok now after taking antibiotics and arnica coupled with Harry loosing about 13% of his birth weight so we were kept in hospital for longer than I would have liked. I persuaded them to let us go home very late Friday after promising to feed Harry up overnight with breastmilk and some top up and return to hospital on Saturday to get him reweighed. Thankfully he had put on some weight and they were really pleased with him so we were finally discharged.

Slowly getting used to having a little one in the house again and DS1 loves little Harry and keeps kissing him all the time which is very sweet and says that Harry is the best little brother! One thing I certainly don't remember from first time round is so much pooing! The joys of motherhood!

Forgive me for not managing to catch up on all the new arrivals but congrats to all new mums and dads and good luck to all you pregnant ladies still waiting....

I look forward to trying to catch up on everyones news very soon.

xx

MommyD · 26/07/2005 14:23

Congratulations webwoman!!!

Welcome Harry!

Yes, even with Bo, my third baby, I had forgotten about all the pooing, and of course, how gorgeously diddy they come out!!

hub2dee · 26/07/2005 14:58

A congrats to webwoman05 !

Sounds like you had quite a bit of waiting and faffing and hassle, I am glad Harry is doing so well and that his brother thinks he's ace !!!

BTW - were all the attempts to site the epi painful or quite tolerable ?

hoxtonchick · 26/07/2005 15:43

ok, before you all hate me too much about the jeans they are a) very stretchy b) 2 sizes bigger than the size i was pre-ds. i put on huuuuuuuuuge amounts of weight when pg, & have a long long way to go to get to what i was 4 years ago. but still....

hub2dee · 26/07/2005 15:57

I can get into virtually everything pre-pg.

LOL.

merryberry · 26/07/2005 20:21

welcome to the world harry, well done webwoman...did you swear at anaesthetist one even once?

I read heat magazine today, and found out that michelle mcmanus is now wearing a smaller size form monsoon than me. good for her. suicidal for me what's the secret, HC?

hoxtonchick · 26/07/2005 20:28

err, i have stuffed my face today mb (isn't breastfeeding a fabulous excuse ), & am not going near the scales for a while.... actually the real secret is one of my diabetes drugs which somehow messes up your metabolism & makes it much easier to lose weight. contrast this with the insulin i have to take when pg, which caused me to put on 24kg (no, that isn't a typo) when i was pg with ds. i didn't weigh myself at all when pg with dd as frankly i didn't want to know, & had lost lots of weight before becoming pg so doubly didn't want to! most of my recent 2nd-timer friends seem to have lost it more quickly running round after toddlers.

and as i said below, i may fit into my jeans but i am still fat!

AussieSim · 27/07/2005 02:12

My DS2 is 4 weeks old today. I am having alternate good and bad nights with him and he still has very little awake time. The weight is hanging on to me this time which is very annoying. This poor little fella has to cry on his own a lot more than DS1 ever did as I just have to get things done like looking after DS1 showering, getting out the door etc etc. I wonder if it makes any difference to them as they get older. Anyway obviously I need a July 05 Post Natal thread, and on quick skim I don't think that there is one yet so I will start one up. See you there as more babies make their entrance.

pinkmama · 27/07/2005 07:53

Congratulations Webwoman and welcome to the world Harry! {smile}

Epidural sounds a nightmare! Glad all ok now.

Eulalia · 27/07/2005 11:59

Congratulations webwoman. Sorry to hear of the difficulties. Hello Harry

I thought things were happening last night - had quite a few pains. I think I must have willed them away though as I need a couple more days to get organised round the house. My mum is taking me out to lunch tomorrow and we have a family party on Sunday and then Monday would be fine for the baby - however we shall see

Aussiesim - well there are a few babies around already so you could start a thread perhpas but depends on how busy the new mums (and dads are)

Bagpuss30 · 27/07/2005 13:02

Huge congratulations webwoman . Welcome to Harry.

Hoxtonchick, drugs eh? sounds like an excellent way to loose weight if you ask me, much better than the gym .

I have bought myself some new underwear in an attempt to try and cheer myself up, but I think a diet may be in order too.

Eulalia I am sending you some labour vibes now . Was hoping for some nice announcements here today - where are all these babies!!

Let me be the first in there !!!!!!!

Congrats Pamina3, and welcome to Victoria !!!!!!!

Hey, we're nearly ready to storm into the postnatal topc area, LOL !

Bagpuss30 · 27/07/2005 14:44

Gosh Pamina I have just read your birth announcement and realised that Victoria's birth was remarkably similar to George's (cord round neck, resus thingy). Hope she's ok now and congrats again .

Congratulations Webwoman and Pamina

I have mastitis . I thought these things started gradually but this flared up out of the blue. It's much better today though. Yesterday was the pits with the community midwife and my parents-in-law (doctor and nurse) all inspecting my breasts as I lay in a puddle of sweat, milk and savoy cabbage!

hoxtonchick · 27/07/2005 16:45

congrats pamina, have posted on your birth announcement thread. where are mirashark & hariett????

poor you mrsd, i've never had mastitis but it sounds hideous. i think i may have thrush, am taking the drugs just in case. i had it with ds & it was awful, not as bad this time, but still painful. or it may just be engorgement. dd has been spacing her feeds out over the past few days, to about every 3 hours during the day & 4 in the middle of the night! she is perky for my liking early in the morning though...

hub2dee · 27/07/2005 17:24

for you mrsd. DW just finished her fevers, shakes, boob inspections etc. There was some helpful info in our feeding discussion here ITH. Mastitis really sucks. Are you on ABs or just hitting the paracetamol ? Repeated hot baths / showers were de rigeur in our place, together with breast massage to try and work on the lumps / blockages...

Hope you're feeling better soon. Will be a great discussion for the postnatal thread.

eastyorksmum · 27/07/2005 17:53

Lolasmum · 27/07/2005 19:31

Congrats Pamina and Webwoman.

Harriet and Mirashark - got any news???

Poor you MrsD. I hope it clears up soon.

I had fun today trying to get a passport photo of Bessie. She needed to have both eyes open, mouth closed and both ears visible. Not easy to acheive with a 12 day old. Hopefully they'll accept a photo just one ear visible. Off to fill in the form now.

merryberry · 27/07/2005 21:36

congratulations Pamina! I saw your birth announcement, magic.

I'm so sorry MRSD. A speedy recovery wished to you.

HC you seem to be in breastfeeding nirvana to me! How old is your daughter now? And is there anyone I can pay to get the same effect with young Vin

xx

mrsdarcy · 28/07/2005 00:10

Thanks for all the sympathy. I am feeling much, much better today. I held off antibiotics for about 18 hours and tried homeopathic remedies but my temp kept going up, so I've got a 5 day course of amoxycillin which seems to be doing the trick. I just hope I don't devlop thrush as a result. Poor you, hc. I had thrush in my milk ducts with DS2 and it was horrible.

It probably would really have got me down when I had the boys as I wanted everything to be all Waltonesque, but frankly I am still on such a happy cloud that it's purely a physical problem rather than making me weepy or miserable, iykwim (is that abbreviation right, it looks wierd?!)

My lovely in-laws kept the boys quiet all day yesterday and took care of Harriet too, just bringing her upstairs for feeds, so I was able to get plenty of rest.

Eulalia · 28/07/2005 00:37

Congratulations Pamina!

Just popping on quickly - in early stages of labour (caught me unawares being 2 days early!) had pains last night and all today and now a show and mild contractions so expect things to be progressing soon. Holding off going into hospital just now as the roads won't be busy a this time.

Watch this space......!

Harriett · 28/07/2005 00:45

Harriett's dh here to let you know that our beautiful daughter Dulcie Grace was born at 5pm, Tuesday 26th, weighing in at 8lbs 11.5oz, by emergency cesarian section after two days of induction which is now to be referred to as "The Ordeal" Gory details supplied upon request. Harriett wanted to pass on her love to you all, her hope that all mums and any remaining ladies-in-waiting are well and her thanks for all your support. Hopefully she'll be out of hospital Friday and no doubt will catch up with you all as soon as she can.
