Good luck with your interview Saucepanman

Oh good luck Saucepanman.

Hopefully that will have got it out of your system?

greensnail · 26/11/2009 13:55

Good luck Saucepanman.

Where is my DH? He was supposed to be home at lunch time to come with me for the scan. We need to leave in half an hour. Hope he turns up soon!

RnB · 26/11/2009 17:00

How did the scan go Saucepanman?

greensnail · 26/11/2009 18:49

Back from my scan. One baby in there so not me for the twins. All seems well, he seemed very active kicking his legs all over the place (looked very masculine to me!). They've changed my due date to 9th June, which makes a bit more sense to me than my previous date going just on my cycle. Will change the list.

Glad all was ok with the baby as we had a scary collision with a cyclist on the way there. I was overtaking a bus at a bus stop when the bus put on its indicator and pulled straight out. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting the bus and a cyclist who was just behind me couldn't stop in time and slammed into my car. Everyone was ok, but it shook me up a bit.

Hope interview went well Saucepanman.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/11/2009 20:25

Yay for good scan greensnail, but boo for twins not being yours .

I think we should add an indicator on the list of who has been scanned and who hasn't, to help us keep track.

Welcome middledaughter. Can I echo what the others have already said re bf'ing. It really is very, very, very, very rare not to be able to bf, but it isn't so rare to think that you can't, esp if you are not aware of what to realistically expect and where to find good support in case of difficulties. I am also a fan of La Leche League, and as someone who regularly attends their meetings (I am already tandem feeding my dc), I can vouch for them being very welcoming and supportive.

Terrible terrible night with ds last night, so am needing an early one tonight in the hope of him sleeping better and me catching up. I am so tired and achy by the end of the day at the moment.

RnB · 26/11/2009 20:27

Goodness, my pregnancy brain . Of course I meant 'How did the scan go greensnail'

Wonderful news!!! So pleased for you

Terrible about the collision - glad all is ok x

nickytwotimes · 26/11/2009 20:34

Hello everyone.
Glad the scans are going okay overall. No twins yet, hmm? Well it ain't me - I've had 2 and definitely one in there.
Unfortunately I felt no excitement at my scan. Just felt too ill for too long and still don't feel pregnant and struggling with that tbh. Feel like I have had some really horrid illness instead. Hope it chnges as I feel better.
On the positive side, I am feeling a bit better. Only 2 pukey phases today and I as actually hungry and wanted to eat at other times. Soooooo tired and weak still from the weeks of no food/movement. And pretty down too tbh. Struggle when I have ds to look after, though the parentals are helping a lot still.
God, I am just moaning, sorry!
Looking forward to the second trimester as I approach 13 weeeks this weekend.

greensnail · 27/11/2009 01:25

So glad you're starting to feel a bit better nickytwotimes and hope the others with hyperemesis are starting to improve too.

I can empathise a bit with the lack of excitement. It was a relief to see all was fine on the scan but i didn't feel the rush of amazement and excitement that I did with DD. Am struggling to really feel that I'm pregnant a lot of the time. I suppose as I'm busy with DD it takes my mind off it whereas last time i was free to think of pregnancy all day every day! I do feel guilty that I'm not giving this baby enough thought though.

My insomnia seems to be back. I went to bed at 8 as was exhausted and was expecting a bad night with DD who is still poorly. Woke at midnight after dreaming of giving birth to the new baby (was quite a nice dream as was in and out of the hospital in 2 hours!!) and haven't been able to get back to sleep so am up eating the remains of my chinese takeaway!

mampam · 27/11/2009 09:04

Nickytwotimes I know exactly how you feel. I just keep thinking to myself "why can't I just feel normal again" and "is this going to go on for the whole 40 weeks?".

When I had my scan I did feel a sense of relief, kind of like there really is a reason for all of this but it was agony actually going for the scan as the hospital is 50 minute drive away. Just to top it off DH had left his soggy wet weather gear in the car so the car absolutely stunk (I could have killed him), we were driving along in the pouring rain with me feeling sick and with the window wound right down.

I found sitting in the waiting room a tortuous experience. I even find walking around makes me feel worse. I've been stuck in my bedroom for the last 5 weeks as to me the downstairs of our house has a horrid smell and just the thought of it makes me heave.

I feel like such a lame arse. Especially when my friend has just announced she is also pregnant and is exactly 2 weeks behind me, has hardly any sickness, has a 14 month old to look after and a new job for which she is putting in all hours for. I have 2 dc's who are old enough to wash and clothe themselves and I only have a part time job, which I've been off sick from for the last 5 weeks and just to top it all off my boss has got her arse in her hand so much so that I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to go back to work there as she has made it quite awkward for me.

I'm sorry I'm moaning (again). I'm just so sad and feel so guilty that I am not enjoying this pregnancy.

nickytwotimes · 27/11/2009 10:49

Glad I am not alone in being totally underwhelmed, greensnail!

Mamapam, what medications have you tried? Ondansatron (ZOfan) was the one that worked for me, but I had to fight to get it.
Hyperemisis is AWFUL. I have never bben so ill in my life. Totally debilitating physically and mentally too. Pure hell. I hope you are getting proper help. Smells are the pits. I hate teh smell of our house. We haven't lived here long and the previous owners were smoking dog owners - the worst smells ever! And yes, travelling is awful.. I really feel for you. I hope it lifts a bit for you soon. this is a great website.

nickytwotimes · 27/11/2009 10:50

..amd yes, moving around makes things much worse.
DOn't feel like a lame arse. It is a serious illness that needs proper care.

fillybuster · 27/11/2009 11:07

Greensnail - hurrah for a good scan but anther "boo" for the twins not being yours...I keep telling myself I'm not sick enough for twins.... Collision sounds horrid, glad it was just before the scan so you could see everything was ok.

Cantsleepwontsleep - am sooooo with you on the sleep deprivation, even wimped out of the gym this morning cos I'm too knackered (and have too much work, but never mind that!). DD has developed a new "shouting for mummy and daddy at the top of her voice at 2am" trick this week. Not sure what the point of it is, as all we do is go in, tell her firmly to be quiet and go back to sleep and then go out again. And she does . But of course by then its 2am and I'm up, so I go to the loo and take a while to fall back asleep. And DS has wet his bed 4 times out of the last 7 nights (after 6 months dry) at about 4/5 in the morning, so we're up again changing sheets. Needless to say, we are shattered and grumpy....

Middledaughter - welcome Like everyone else, I would say that a) there's lots of support for bfing out there b) very few people cant bf (although many find it hard and (perhaps a bit not like everyone else) c) I would venture to suggest that if you do try to bf and it doesnt work out, it really isn't the end of the world and there are plenty of very healthy, happy formula fed babies out there. In fact, I found bfing much easier than many of my friends/family and I think it helped that I was (relatively) relaxed about whether it worked or not - I think its one of those things that gets harder the more you worry about it, IYSWIM. (NB I should point out here that despite having bf 2 dcs to 6 months each, I never found it "easy" or "fun" and spent a lot of time worrying about it anyway, in spite of previous philosophic thesis )

Nicky - glad the sickness is slowly subsiding..."this too will pass"

Mampam - I'm so sorry you're still feeling so rough but please be kinder to yourself...you are not a lame arse, you are just a very sick pregnant person!!

Btw, it took me a lot longer to get 'excited' wuth DD than with DS, I think mainly cos I was working hard, and looking after ds and there was just less time/capacity to get so worked up about it. It did happen, just a lot slower...I was really looking forward to being pregnant again but in the event it was a massive anticlimax (plus I was a lot sicker than the first time!) and I realised it was partly because I was only really interested in getting to the 'baby stage' whilst the first time actually being pregnant had been quite all-consuming.

OK, had really better do some work today - hope you all have lovely relaxing weekends

herewegrow · 27/11/2009 11:09

Hi All,

Glad everyones scans went well.

Welcome to the new thread members.

Feeling spectacularly sick today not sure if it's MS or just a bug. I usually feel a bit sick in the evenings but then it goes away by the morning.

Just keeping my head down at my desk and trying to not look too yuk.

Off to my folks at the weekend with my DD (11 months old) for a bit of R&R. leaving DH to fend for himself, he will be fine as has a night out and golf planned.

RnB · 27/11/2009 12:06

Oh goodness, really sorry for those with hyperemesis I was sick, but nowhere near that bad, and it is so much better now. Really hope you recover soon.

Grr just had a call from my agent - I've been asked to sudition for the Lion King, 1yr contract starting may 2010. Typical! Had to then tell him that I'm pregnant (was going to do it soon). He was great, which was a relief, and said there's a wealth of pregnant roles they could put me up for . So pleased, was dreading that conversation!

gizmo · 27/11/2009 12:19

Pregnant roles! If there are any spare, RnB, I may be looking for some extra work soon. Or I will be, if I can't tear myself off b*dy mumsnet and get some real work done

However, before I go, has anyone seen Saucepanman around? I do hope her interview went well.

Thoughts are with all those still suffering with the hyperemesis. Hopefully we are in 'darkest just before the dawn' territory for many of you; I can't imagine how grim it must be.

GibberingGinger · 27/11/2009 13:01

Think I should change my name to Moany Moany McMoanyChops. It's all I seem to do at the moment. I'm just so tired and nauseaous all the time. Though nothing in the realms of a lot of you so I should really just shut up about it. My lovely sister told me last night that with her second the morning sickness lasted til 17 weeks. Please nooooooooooooooooooooo. However she did say that it just seemed to disappear overnight when it did go.

Looking forward to a nice lazy weekend, hopefully sleeping lots. Hope everyone has nice weekend plans.

greensnail · 27/11/2009 14:04

Glad your agent was so positive RnB, we'll all be wondering if its you everytime we see a pregnant actress now! I really must tell work too, can't believe i'm so anxious about it. I never actually have to see my manager because of the hours that i work so I don't know what i'm so worried about as i can just phone up and tell her, then probably not see her again until i'm ready to come back to work!

I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend not having to visit any medical establishment. Have been at the doctors or hospital every day this week, either for me, DH or DD and i need a break!

mampam · 27/11/2009 14:41

Nickytwotimes I've had a look at the website, thanks. You're right it is a debilitating thing mentally as well as physically. I've been given Cyclizine (Valoid) tablets. I guess they must work as I don't vomit as much as I used to, some days I don't vomit at all but I feel sick all the time and it's not just feeling sick it's all the symptoms that you have just before you are sick like my stomach churns over and over and it's the most horrendous noise and my mouth waters. Sometimes I wonder if it would be easier if I did just throw up.

I just feel so drained and I feel sorry/guilty as DH has to do everything. He's coping really well but there is sometimes a bit of tension between us as he's one of these men that doesn't listen when you talk to him. For example he was going to the supermarket and asked if there was anything I wanted for lunch. I said " a tin of Heinz tomato soup", so when he gets back and does my lunch it's not Heinz it was some other tomato soup with chunks of tomato and basil in. Needless to say I didn't like it and didn't eat all of it so he gets in a strop. I told him that I did ask for Heinz and he says "I didn't hear you say that"!!!!!
Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh.

I need to feel better so I can get out of this bloody house before we all go mad!!

Fillybuster Thanks for your kind words. I feel so helpless at the moment. It doesn't help when I feel like people think I'm putting it on or I'm not as bad as I'm making out especially my boss who is acting like I'm somehow doing this on purpose!

LittleRobbo · 27/11/2009 16:14

mampam maybe your friend is putting a brilliant show on in front of everyone then behind closed doors she is just as knackered/irritable as the rest of us
Dont compare yourself to others,i bet you are doing a grand job

Welcome newbies

hope you feel better soon readysetgo

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/11/2009 17:25

Oh tomato soup has to be Heinz mampam, I agree. Sadly it contains milk so I haven't been able to have any for a long time.

Thanks to those of you who were on my other thread overnight btw. I have been feeling ok today. Hopefully my gallstones won't play up all through the pregnancy, as I doubt there's anything that can be done about them at the moment.

nickytwotimes · 27/11/2009 18:06

mampam, for me it was the nausea that was the worst part and all the shivery, sweaty, saliva-y feelings that went with it. In some ways that was worse than the actual vomiting as it never ended and it doesn't really describe it well enough to say 'I feel sick', does it? I might as well have been violently ill, iyswim? Not being able to move for weeks on end and waking up feeling really sick several times a noght does weird things to your head.
It is worth trying different meds to find the one which helps the most. ALso, ask your mw to check you are not dehydrated. I couldn't believe how much better I felt after getting a drip in for a few hours. Also your electrolyte balance, etc. Very important you get properly cared for.
As for the tomato soup - NOT HEINZ?! Not on. I lived off Spring vegetable soup for a few weeks. At least it is fluid and a few calories.

MrsC09 · 27/11/2009 19:02

Well no twins for me either tg so the probability is increasing for one of you due in later june

I found the scan such an amazing experience! Couldn't believe how much he was moving around in there!

Saucepanman · 27/11/2009 19:13

Hello all, sorry I'm slow in getting back to you! I though the interview went ok, but I found out today I didn't get it. Never mind. But don't think I will be able to find anything now before the baby is born, and did really fancy that job oh well! Horrendously sick today and am now off to bed! Unprecedented for me, though will prob be up again in an hour. Hope you're all well

greensnail · 28/11/2009 03:49

Sorry you didn't get the job saucepanman, obviously wasn't meant to be. Hope you're feeling better soon.

mampam I agree nausea can be much more debilitating than actual vomitting. If your meds are working properly they should stop you feeling sick as well as being sick. Definitely worth trying something else if they're not doing this. (I've no experience of hyperemesis myself, but use a lot of anti-emetics in my line of work).
