Hester - thats great news!
Fastasleep - hope you are feeling better soon.

I've noticed that the tiredness that I suffered in the first trimester seems to be coming back, I went upstairs to do my ironing (don't tell DH he'd go mad, wants me to keep my feet up and rest my ankle after Mondays perforance!!) I ironed for about ten mins then sat on the bed and woke up an hour and a half later!!!
Where's the sun gone? I'm sat here in a cardie, might even think about putting the heating on!!!

fastasleep · 29/06/2005 19:47

If there's a news story tomorrow about a husband being murdered by a frying pan wielding wife then that'll be me...he still isn't back and he knows I feel like compete shit I'm totally pissed off now and Theo's being horrible cos no one's played with him all day

Elf1981 · 29/06/2005 19:56

Fastasleep - bless you. Sorry to hear you're not having a good time. You tell that DH of yours off when he gets in
My DH is kipping on the sofa, but he did cook my tea so I can't complain...

fastasleep · 29/06/2005 19:57

I'm going to hit him with something I swear my hormones have gone swoooosh... just like that swoosh

Blu · 29/06/2005 23:33

Hi Hester - sorry - only just found this thread.
Bloody hell - that first consultant! I have never heard any of that stuff- and I have trawled every site in the uk and in america in the run up to, and since Ds's birth, and i have never found evidence to suggest such a high level of risk for other problems. of course, DS is one of the 'other problems' because the talipes diagnosed at 20 week scan was just what was visible of a more complicated probelm - but then you could say that he doesn't actually have talipes, he has 'fibula hemmimelia'.

Also, I was 43 when I had DS (as you know) and no-one ever mentioned any need to have an elective CS or induction. Why on earth would induction help? He does sound like doom merchant, and I think your sanity might best be protected by seeing the second one from now on!!

And before you start, there is no correlation between talipes and maternal age, as far as I know!

Anyway, I'm REALLY glad the second consultant has managed to give you a bit more peace of mind.

XXX

fastasleep · 29/06/2005 23:51

He got home eventually and I was calm enough to do the silent treatment I feel so so much better now after a few hours of sitting on the sofa next to him randomly poking him in the beer belly with my toe and 'hmphing'

triceratops · 30/06/2005 08:47

Hester I am glad that you have had some better news. I know that they feel that they have to prepare you for disaster but I am not quite sure how much of it is so they can say they told you so. Personally I would be happier if they hinted at it and then let me get on with having a healthy and relatively stress free pregnancy. At this stage I would carry as far to term as my body would allow even if there was only 1% chance that the baby would be OK.

Fastasleep I know what you mean about child 1 being extra lively when you are feeling like poo. Do you have a soft play centre near you? I find that a good long session at the soft play while I lie on the mat looking exhausted tires him out enough to make him watch a video until bedtime. I get his tea there too which he thinks is a treat but I feel guilty over because it is hardly healthy. Husbands are rubbish at looking after you when you are ill, but if they have a bit of a sniffle it is all "pass me and extra blanket, can I have another cup of tea as my throat is parched" .

jessicasmummy · 30/06/2005 08:56

Please tell me im not the only one not sleeping properly... just cant get comfortable!!! I usually sleep on my side, but no amount of cushions/pillows are doing the trick.... GRRRRR

fastasleep · 30/06/2005 09:08

I couldn't sleep... my horrible horrible husband snored drunkenly all night lol... horrible he is. Triceratops we moved to a really stupid area and the nearest soft play thing that doesn't look like 90% of it's covered in snot () is about 20 minutes away by bus... everything's at least 20 minutes away by bus actually lol feeling well enough to eat today, yay!

Hope everyone else is ok!

SusiS · 30/06/2005 09:09

morning!
and no jm! you are not the only one not sleeping properly at nights
i wake every other hour and have to turn over - luckily i've got the bed to myself (dp works nights)
but i do feel completly worn out due to not getting a full nights proper sleep!!!!!

and oh yes! my ds wears me out too! not sure if it's easier now he started walking! i don't have to carry him around as much but he wants me to go for endless walks

hester, your 2nd consultant sounds so much more positive! glad you had the chance to get a 2nd opinion! hope you can relax a bit now

lol fastasleep: the silent toe poking - we all know that

jolovett · 30/06/2005 10:24

Add me to the list of insomniacs. Everytime I fall asleep something wakes me up - desperate to pee, baby kicking, cramps, too warm, too cold!!!!!!! Doing my head in. I did ask the doc about cramps and he told me to try and stay off fizzy drinks completely as there is a chemical in them that builds up in muscles and causes cramps - especially in pg women! I know we're not supposed to be drinking them anyway, but JJ has suddenly taken a liking to Coca Cola (which I usually hate!). Just thought I'd let you guys know that too.

HAd check up yesterday - midwife very pleased with progress - no swelling, baby in perfect position, heartbeat strong, water clear and no weight gain apart from baby. Woohoo!

Completely forgot everything I wanted to ask though when I went in, despite taking my mother with me and telling her not to let me leave without asking! My brain is frazzled!

fastasleep · 30/06/2005 10:26

Glad your midwife appointment went ok - well done with the no weight gain lol ..I'm dreading my midwife appointment... it's where I'll suddenly turn from annoying teenage mum to annoying teenage 'I want a homebirth' mum... they'll hate me!

bonniej · 30/06/2005 11:22

congrats on your midwife apt jolovett. When you say no weight gain except for baby, how much have you actually put on? I'm 26 weeks and have hit the stone mark. started at 10 am now 11 Had my midwife appointment this morning and she said you should aim for about 1 and a half stone throughout pg which only leaves me half a stone and three months to go. I don't feel I'm really stuffing my face (mainly due to the heat) but is this a lot? I'd be interested to see what others have gained. We're trying to get our big bedroom decorated as dd1 and baby will be sharing (eventually)and that's wearing me out. I'd like to get dd1 settled in there long before the baby arrives as I've been told toddlers don't welcome too many changes at once. We've gone pink mad in that room so I do hope the scan was right!

Gotta go and put some flatpack furniture together now, that'll be fun Hope everyone's well and thank goodness the weather seems to have cooled off a bit!

bonniej · 30/06/2005 11:23

oh, one more thing, midwife still didn't check position of the baby. Should she have done??

Joseyjo · 30/06/2005 12:56

blimey!! i have only not read this thread for four days and it has taken me ages to catch up!!

my mw said on tue that she can't tell which way the baby is pointing until week 28. she listened to the heart beat and it was very very strong and regular - lovely!! having said that i am pretty sure bubba is still breach (as it was at last scan) as i get a lot of kicks below the bikini line), not that i care of course as it is coming our my zip whether it is bum or head first!!

i am not having great success sleeping at the moment, but strangely enough it is not making me too tired. i have to put a pillow between my elbows otherwise i get pins and needles in my hands (bizarre!!!).
i am also getting cramps, but apparently calcium and salt are the way to reduce that. don't really fancy milk and salt as a combo, but i suppose strong cheese would cover both.
other than that i am still really enjoying being pregnant. am very excited about bubba coming but getting a bit impatient not. hit the 11 stone mark this week (which means i have put on 1 stone and 4 lbs....) but i was told that the average weight gain is 2.5 stone! in my last pregnancy, i went to have a different mw once and she put the thing on my belly to listen to the heart beat and said "you want to watch how much weight you are putting on" cheeky mare!!! especially as i only put on 1/2 a stone total last time so she was blatently commenting on my pre-pregnancy tummy flab!!

last comment (i will shut up soon i promise!!) is that i have started nct (v v early but only class available) and have my second session tonight. hopefully going to get the ultimate hospital bag list so that i can get that ready. call me paranoid, but the last time i saw a consultant (approx 2 weeks ago - 24 weeks!!!) he said "the main thing is to try and get you past 32 weeks" which was when ds was born. was totally confused as ds was born by emergency cs because of his condition, it wasn't like i went into labour because my body got bored!!!!! anyway, not going to risk it as didn't have anything ready at all last time and poor dh had to run round town trying to find suitable pants that didn't sit right on my sore scar!!

food time now!!

nervousmum2be · 30/06/2005 13:34

Good to see it's not just me that can't sleep. For the last month or so, i've been getting terrible pains in my knees, but only on almost waking. The physio reckons it's back-related (and so it begins...!) That, plus getting up to the loo 10 times a night .

Re weight gain - i haven't been weighed by my MW at all yet, and i've been too scared to get on my own scales (flashback to consuming my bodyweight in mini-milk ice lollies when it was really hot!), but i was lead to believe the average weight gain is 2-2.5 stone, so i'm sure i've got a way to go yet

Elf1981 · 30/06/2005 14:35

Lost half a stone with illness / morning sickness while pregnant, have put that back on and am now only 1/2 lb over my pre pregnancy weight. Discussed it with my midwife as was panicking baby would suffer as no amount of food was helping me put on weight. Midwife said not to worry. I am a larger lady anyway, so she said it's quite common for us not to put weight on but baby will take all it needs from me in nutrients etc.
Last week put on the 1/2 lb so think I'll start putting weight on from now onwards.
I think that there is the potential to worry about weight gain - I panic about not putting on enough, but others panic about putting on too much. Am now trying not to be too concerned, it's just another thing less to focus on IMO

mishmash2 · 30/06/2005 14:41

Afternoon ladies! I'm back from my hols and it has taken me about an hour to read the thread since I've been away! Now feel like having a cup of tea and a piece of cake but after you are all discussing weight gain - very impressed with 1/2 lb... rather embarrassed to say that I've put on 1.5 stone - maybe I should have a carrot instead!!

Had a lovely holiday although tried to stay out of the sun as was convinced my amniotic fluid was beginning to boil in the heat as the baby did not stop kicking all week. I have grown enormously in the past week - everyone at work is shocked!!

Rings came off 2 weeks ago - also get swollen feet a lot which isnt' much fun - went to a wedding and had to take my shoes off after 2 hours so wondered aroudn barefoot!

Glad to hear your news is more positive Hester - fingers crossed for you.

xx

jessicasmummy · 30/06/2005 14:45

mishmash - im not the onyl one who's rings are off then! i had to take them off with jess too and god it feels weird - dh jokes with me saying ive met another man and thats why i dont wear them!

put on TOO much weight but dont care - it will come off once babe is born. I will start the "lose the baby fat" thread as soon as im out of hospital!!!

jessicasmummy · 30/06/2005 14:59

BE HONEST WITH ME NOW GIRLIES.....

Edith Alison McCafferty - crap or cool?

Edie for short?!

jolovett · 30/06/2005 16:09

I've put on 7lb since pg, mw said baby will be weighing about 2lb now and is about 23cm long crown to rump.

Starting to think and panic about all the stuff we need to get now. Don't know where to start - anyone got any advice on good toys/equipment to get without going over the top - you know bouncers/swings, etc? Don't want to suddenly go out and buy loads of stuff and realise it's way more than we need.

Desperately trying to arrange meeting with boss to discuss maternity leave, but he keeps putting it off. Getting annoying now as I am feeling way overtired and want to request to go part time asap. The way I feel at the moment I'm doing way too much and just may start the maternity leave as early as possible. It'll be nice to have some time before the baby comes to sort everything out properly and have a bit of relaxation and me time. Anyone else taking maternity leave early?

jolovett · 30/06/2005 16:11

By the way JM - I like Edith, especially Edie for short.

We like Kylan Rhys Lovett for ours - some say Kylan is a girls name tho - any thoughts?

mishmash2 · 30/06/2005 16:17

I'm leaving in 8 weeks... not that I'm counting but thought I'd stop just before teh bank holiday w'end so that can get into holiday mode early! Am so busy here though that have a feeling the 8 weeks are goign to fly by and then it will hit me that I'm not on holiday but on maternity leave.... help! I haven't bought anything yet - went on to ebay yesterday trying to bid for a pram and stupidly bid for 2 - then was highest bidder for both and was beginning to panic that I would end up with 2 prams! However, have now been outbid so am left with none.... big shopping trip on Sat planned!!

morningpaper · 30/06/2005 19:15

Don't worry ladies I've now put on 2 stone! But I DO look very big, people are shocked when I say I've got three months to go. So that's some consolation. I put on 4 stone last time.

JM: I like Edie! Josie is one of our choices - perhaps we could go for the whole cast of Balamory?!

jessicasmummy · 30/06/2005 19:18

in that case maybe penny or susie?! or perhaps spencer plummy archie??!
