CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 09:52

HPV can actually be a "silent" infection - present without any symptoms. I've never tested positive for it, but have had pre-cancerous cells. (got them cheese-wired out a few years ago)

Quite excited about finding out my blood type (sad, innit?) I know loads about my sero-positive rheumatoid factor and enlarged platelets thanks to former meds, but I don't even know my blood group. when I was on the meds I had my bloods done every month, so I have no fear there. I'm more concerned about the bottle of piss currently rolling around in my handbag!

iggypiggy · 07/01/2010 10:01

Am gutted to be a 'common' blood type - I wanna be speshul

CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 10:12

well, as long as your rhesus status is okay and baby won't need transfusions etc, all is good, you commoner

iggypiggy · 07/01/2010 10:14

V. much good luck for your appt today ghosty - when is it?

CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 10:18

2pm - had been warned up may be up to 2 hours, so took afternoon off. Hence the skive if it's only 35 mins like yours!

CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 10:18

and thanks for the good luck (rude girl forgot!)

iggypiggy · 07/01/2010 11:34

Mine was only ever meant to be an hour tho...

I just told someone at work - who said "are you pleased? Or not?"

I'm nearly 34 and married... is unlikely that it wasn't planned - surely?!

givecarrotsachance · 07/01/2010 11:35

Good luck from me cas

I know my rhesus is ok as I checked my mat notes from LC. I'd had a minor bleed at somewhere around 20 weeks by memory so it was worth checking.

iggs is it really that rare? I thought it was more prevalant from what I was told. Must be just the company I keep . Anyway, glad you've not got it!!!

I guess that because most things are nasasaty but treatable other than the obvious, it's really worthwhile doing more than just keeping one's fingers crossed, and having been once bitten I was much, much more careful afterwards. I figured that as I never have and never would sleep with anyone that I wasn't in a serious relationship with I would be ok, as you sort of get the idea that these things happen to the promiscuous, but it turns out I was wrong. I'm not (too) scared to say so as if it persuades someone else to get tested and reduce their risk of severe complications, then great.

My doppler came through the post today so I'll be trying that tonight.

curls at bottle of piss rolling around in your handbag. I can just see you putting that on the counter at the sandwich shop as you are rummaging for change.

I was thrilled when I found out my blood type was A+. I thought it was entirely appropriate as I was such a girly swot at school.

givecarrotsachance · 07/01/2010 11:36

iggs but maybe they were being thoughtful not to assume? I would have been "mildly" offended I suppose at the question, but thinking about it I suppose it was reasonable as you may have been devastated at the idea and sick of people saying, "how wonderful".

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 11:37

LOL at your work colleague iggy. I have had a couple of people ask "were you trying?" which I think is a bit rude. It's a bit like asking if you've been shagging lots IMO. None of their fucking business!

(I hope you are happy though...!)

Thanks rots.

givecarrotsachance · 07/01/2010 11:38

@ ponymum

Turns out calling another child a "girlie swot" at school is not seen as acceptable behaviour . T'was only meant as a joke. LC had got "pupil of the week" and a photo in the reception, and another parent of a child in his class was showing me his daughter's "art of the month" display also in the reception.

Everyone I have told has assumed its wonderful news and said "well done". I mean, you are hardly going to be telling people if you want rid of it

Yes, pone, I had to be very careful when digging out some paracetamol for my office buddy !

CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 11:40

ooooh get you Mrs A+! (is there anything higher I can aim for this avo just to piss off the swot?)

iggypiggy · 07/01/2010 11:53

rots yeah she didn't mean it in a horrible way I just wasn't expecting it!

re: Syphilis according to latest stats I could find is that low - only know cos I was googling yesterday after getting the results! - also my consultant said it was a bit odd to test for it, but is standard so they still do... I guess there is always a tiny chance you might be one of the unlucky ones! Isn't Syphilis what Henry the 8th was meant to have had?

skihorse · 07/01/2010 12:09

I knew I had boring blood. I was a slaaag throughout my 20s and I think it was 3.5 years ago I sat my doctor down and said "swab this bitch" - everything came back clear although I didn't deserve it.

rots I too had heard/read that syphillis was on the up. Of course it had been all but eradicated from the UK by the use of penicillin, however times they are a-changing. I mean I've never been immunised against TB (swapped schools and school years so missed it) and back then in 88 the doctors said "doesn't matter - TB isn't a threat to anyone in the UK anymore" - fast-forward 20 years...

skihorse · 07/01/2010 12:17

... and Mugabe iggy - which might go a way to explain his "erratic" behaviour.

givecarrotsachance · 07/01/2010 12:22

iggs yes, that's a theory, which I only know coz I'm a sad interested-in-Elizabethan-type-history-saddo.

ski at you, you slag. Your bits should have dropped off, by rights. Seriously though, really glad they didn't.

I'm a bit sensitive about saying I WAS "well behaved" not because I bother about people thinking I wasn't, but because I did get infected I don't want people to think i deserved it . Also I want people who didn't sleep around to realise that it can VERY easily happen to them.

I have a 12+1, 55cm CRL little wriggler in my belly! Pic's on FB, will add to MN profile shortly.

I have to have consultant-led care, and give birth on the labour ward, rather than in a Midwife led unit. not sure how I feel about that, but I guess there will be plenty of drugs.

they're doing the triple test bloods etc at 15 weeks, next scan on March 5.

CUNextTuesday · 07/01/2010 17:38

For why consultant led?

Well done btw, great, reassuring news

iggypiggy · 07/01/2010 17:46

Great news! Although 55cm sounds a bit big

mine was 56mm on mon. My next scan/ appt is 10th feb tho... Apparently can find out gender then if we like....

CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 17:48

cos of my 'thritis. Think they are being over-cautious. Young doc I saw had to consult with others before letting me know how they wanted to proceed. Maybe they don't have too many RA mums in my area. Is a bit strange because we'd already established that I don't have much hip trouble etc. But i suppose if labour is going to put my joints in agony they'll have the good drugs . Of course, it'll be just typical if I come up with a birth plan based around CL care, then the doc discharges me and hands me over to MWs when I see him in April. Things are always complicated with me - and often not of my doing, I just have no luck (like the backwards ante natal appointments)

CurlyCasper · 07/01/2010 17:51

ooops 55mm of course! Ouch, 55cm would hurt - no wonder I need medical intervention

Lucky you re gender iggy. Looks like I'm with the panicky, disorganised, money grabbing NHS Trust!

iggypiggy · 07/01/2010 18:01

cassie there is simple reason why my service is diff to yours... Mine is not NHS...
