Hangs head in shame on whispers quietly
Hello lovely ladies!
I feel really, really bad for being AWOL. I just have no idea where the time has gone. I get one or two things done each day, and sadly, MN has not been one of them. It's sad, because I've really missed you - I mean it. I went to a real-life postnatal group last week and it was crap, all I could think about was you lot!
I think I may just have to try to catch up as we go along as if I try to read through all the back log I'll miss you all preparing and giving birth!
Congratulations to Tamlin, Fruitpastels, Helips, Koumak, Homeinthesun and Ursigurke on the new arrivals - I love the names you've picked!
Right, it's already past my new bedtime...
Let me leave you with 3 top-labour tips:
-
You know that bag you've carefully packed, checked and re-packed? Make sure your DH/DP actually puts it in the car when you're on your way to hospital.
-
If you have long hair, make sure your DH/DP knows how to tie it back. Show him and make him practice. You'd be surprised how difficult it seems to be to gather up your DW's hair and tie a rubber band around it.
(Actually, I've got another one for the birthing bit - get him to switch his mobile OFF so you don't get MIL on the phone wondering if you aren't done yet when you've been pushing for an hour.)
-
Pack Lansinoh. If your nipples don't need it, your hands will. God knows why, but my hands got so dry that my knuckles were bleeding while we're still in hospital...
But most of all, I'd like to reassure everyone ready to pop the first baby out: it's no walk in the park, but it's doable. As soon as you're holding that tiny new person, whatever you just went through seems like a distant memory. I ended up giving birth with paracetamol and tens as my only painrelief (not through choice, but I'll leave that for the postnatal thread if anyone's interested) and I'd do it all again tomorrow for Lukas - can you tell I'm head over heels in love with the little man?
Nightnight.
