New thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/11/2009 08:22

hobnob my midwife said the vaccine does not cross the placenta so baby will not be immune from it...although breastfeeding will bring some immunity i guess? I am hoping baby will arrive before tuesday and i won't have to make thr decision!

kyte good luck today, although you probably won't get this now!

Ursi hope all is going well with the little girl! And to all the others who have had their babies - post and tell us how you are doing! And point us to your postnatal thread

sleeplessinthecity · 06/11/2009 08:30

Congratulations Ursi what a lovely name and so pleased all is well..

weston don't worry about DD she will learn to play alone..it took a while for my DD too and at the mo they are a bit clingy so just be patient. Do you have any playmobile in the house? My DD just loves it and its really encouraged her to play on her own..

Having said that she is super clingy at the mo, really worried every time I get off the sofa or floor and moan in pain. Being a super sleeper she has started waking and saying mummy a million times.

Didn't manage any sex last night. Flashforward was far too interesting!!! really glad you're all at it tho and it may spur me some time!

laugs at the mo my mother is rewashing everything I've washed....she's a freak.

Does anyone get spasms from their groin area down to their thighs?? I keep getting them before bed and cannot stand at all..I just collapse!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/11/2009 08:33

comma i love the name Esme. Go with it if its the right name for your DD. she will love it. Sod everyone else, really everyone seems to have opinions about names that are not complimentary. It is all about personal choice.

Skorpion I am really pleased you are enjoying your pg. I did enjoy my first pg, despite HG for the first part, which eased into once a day sickness ( but for some reason it did not wipe me out, was a simple 'oh gonna throw up, bleurgh, lets get on with things' ). I felt good especially in the final trimester, tired, but happy, healthy, great skin, thick hair, neat little bump. even though I had other stresses going on. Or perhaps because of those other stresses, who knows. I know though that it was a very positive experience and glad you are feeling it too. Lets hope your dream is not accurate, as 4 babies at once will hurt physically and financially

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/11/2009 08:35

sleepless yes, I get that groin pain, it makes my leg give way and makes me wince, but only on one side

Tabbykat · 06/11/2009 08:51

Congrats to Ursi and good luck Kyte! V jealous you are getting to meet your bundle soon. I'm due tomorrow, (or yesterday according to dr)and still no sign, despite everyone, including midwife, telling me this baby would definitely be early. Like Scarlotti, have done endless walking round the park yesterday, hoovering up and down stairs, on my feet all day baking caramel cupcakes, and still nothing. Eating endless pineapple and chillies and now just have v bad heartburn!
Also v fed up with people ringing to see if anything has happened yet, especially MIL. Can't stand her at the best of times, but as DH's mum we would at least let her know if the baby had come - probably

Sorry to all those not feeling well. No news here at all on the swine flu jab - dr's haven't been in touch and mw hasn;t mentioned it.Hope you feel better soon, Lissy Comma2 - Esme is top of our list too, although we haven't run it past anyone. My only reservation is that it is too similar to Evie, which is DD1's name, and so it might be a bit too cutesy to have an Evie and an Esme?? Any thoughts? DH and I can't fully agree on any of the others from our shortlist - Daisy, Lily, Amelie, Elodie, Sadie and Bella -but I think as the person who has lugged the baby about for none months and also has to squeeze it out, mum gets the casting vote!!

Hope we get soem more babies soon! Good day to all, x

WizzyWoo · 06/11/2009 09:27

Morning everyone, still in the grips of the piggy this morning and can't speak above a whisper, which DD thinks is very funny - she's been whispering too!

Thank you so much for the messages of support. DH and I had a long talk about it all last night, which we really needed to do, so we feel more prepared for the challenges ahead. I'm not feeling quite so scared about Monday now, I think I'd built it up into such a huge thing that it was starting to cloud my judgement. Watch this space, I guess.

Baby names and other people are a nightmare, aren't they? Ordinarily I'm a free speech kind of person but when it comes to a baby name, I think a little white lie doesn't hurt if you don't like the name someone's picked, rather than sticking your oar in. For the record though, Comma, I adore the name Esme and was heartbroken when I first learned we are having a boy because I was so set on the name for a girl!

Hope today's a good day for those who are overdue and you aren't pestered too much by people asking if you've had the baby yet...

skorpion · 06/11/2009 09:43

Good morning.

wizzy I hope you get well very soon. Thinking of you.

kyte I'm too late now, but keeping my fingers crossed for you. Good luck and hope all goes smoothly.

pavlov Thank you. That's exactly how I feel. And yes, four would be a painful surprise, wouldn't it?

comma I love Esme. Agree with wizzy - comments on baby names are just not on. That's why I never read any baby name threads. I never understand how people think their opinion on a name is any more valid than anybody else's.

Right, I have to catch up with work. I hope you all have a good day. xx

sleeplessinthecity · 06/11/2009 09:56

pav do you also have a stitch like feeling when you walk? sorry I just am baffled this time around...

As I collapsed in a heap all DH could do was carry on reading his magazine..charming. If I don't tell him in pure english that its labour he just fobs off all my aches and pains..men!

Our neighbour's daughter is Esme and she is a real gem...love it for whoever is thinking about it. Names are hard..have already had comments on our shortlist and some not very nice which makes me mad, because I then take it to heart..my own fault for saying anything.
Thing is we're a mixed couple so everyone expects exotic names but we like old fashioned names and people think I'm abandoning my roots.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/11/2009 10:11

I did have a stich yesterday sleepless, when i stood up, but not since. I recall thinking, for the millionth time 'oh is this it?' and it passed, as normal! But not normally getting stitch no. I think the groin thing is the pelvic muscle overstretching? Not sure, but i think it might be.

We are off out for the day to check out the place we have booked for the family christmas gathering, make sure we know where it is as it is in the middle of nowhere. I shall make sure i have our hospital bag with us, and something for dd, so we can take her straight to friends if we need to go shooting up to hosp, but i am expect it won't happen today. So don't think i have had the LO if you don't hear from me again today, i am just out! I made roasted butternut squash soup yesterday and we have these new big food flasks with spoons, so going to do some mini pasta with it, buy som crusty bread, fly DDs kite, she can ride her bike, kick a ball, eat hot soup! I am looking forward to it.

But feel a bit bad, a friend, just had a baby is feeling a bit low, she has not told me this, told another friend, and she just called to come over for a cuppa. We had to say we were going out and I sort of wish we said she could come with us. But we have been trying to do something as a family for ages, and it has been impossible with building work and decorating and sickness, and job interviews and court stuff and wont get many more chances, so we did not invite her hope she will be ok with that.

Trikken · 06/11/2009 10:18

hiya all, is my due date today, had a few aches and pains but not much else is happening so far. really hoping something happens today.

scarlotti · 06/11/2009 10:35

pav sometimes things just work out that way - maybe you could invite your friend over tomorrow or meet for coffee or something instead? Give her a call later on when you're back so she knows you're there.

trikken think there's a few of us due today. Wonder how many of us will still be sitting here pregnant tomorrow

Going to wrap the xmas presents I bought today and idle away some more time!

VenusInfers · 06/11/2009 10:44

Mornin'!

Kyte - Sending good vibes as you'll be meeting your LO in just a few minutes time. So very exciting

Lissey Lord, wish there was something I could say or do to take away even a smidge of that pain. I read your threads from yesterday and am sending you huge waves of sympathy and best wishes that you are feeling a little better today.

Whizzy Glad to hear that your chat with DP last night went well. It's great when talking things out helps like that.

Comma I agree with the rest, Esme is a lovely name. Old fashioned in the nicest possible way.

We've had a difficult time with names for our expected boy. Our surname is scottish, so we want a matching/complementary first and middle name. All fine and good, except DP has been keen to have an alliterative first name which in our case will make him sound like kids comic footballer. He's also keen on the name Redd. Fighting rearguard actions against both of these ideas has somewhat sapped my strength! Mind you, I've been using the power of people's rudeness about names to back me up, so I'm one of the few who is quite glad that some people tell you exactly what they think of your ideas! Have also said that if we have Redd for a boy then if we have another LO and it's a girl she has to be called Yelloww. I said this and then couldn't stop laughing for 10 minutes. I think he got the message.
We do finally have a compromise name lined up, so hopefully it won't end up in the law courts. I really wanted to name the baby after one of my heros, an antarctic explorer and writer. Unfortunately the hero's name is Apsley George Benet Cherry-Garrard, no element of which works with our surname. Compromise name it is then! And pray that if we do have another LO that it's a girl 'cos we are OUT of ideas for boys...

wook · 06/11/2009 10:53

Venus have to admit, I quite like Red, but for a girl. I taught a boy named Blue once, always thought that was quite an interesting name. Both are better than 'Yellow' anyway

Comma I have given up telling anyone our daughter will be called Hedy as they just look blank or incredulous or horrified or laugh and say 'har har Hedy that's rude'. I'm sure she'll have the strength of character to deal with it - we've bought the wooden letters for her nursery door now anyway, so there's no going back! The best thing is that even those friends who support the name keep getting it wrong- e.g. the texts say 'has Hedda/Heder/Edie/Hedwig arrived yet?' Oh well

Esme is a pretty name and I've always liked it because it's in the title of a great collection of short stories by JD Salinger- 'For Esme With Love and Squalor'. Maybe it is not as popular in the states as it is here though? If Sarah Palin's name choices are anything to go by they have some wacky ideas over there!

Scarlotti wow on the Christmas presents, you are very well organised. Do you think wrapping them counts as a nesting activity???

longwayaway · 06/11/2009 10:55

Thinking of Kyte today

Comma I love the name Esme! Two of our best friends named their daughter Esme. (And we're all Americans, fwiw.) But you've hit on reason #1 that we don't tell anyone what names we're thinking of... people seem to think it's an invitation to give their opinion.

Happy due date, scarlotti and Trikken. Hope things get moving for you soon.

Going to brave the charity shops today with DSIL. I'll probably be a wreck when I get back, but then I'll have crossed everything off my to-do list and hope not to leave the house again for a week.

VenusInfers · 06/11/2009 11:08

Wook I agree that Red for a girl would be kinda cool, but not a boy. Esp not a boy who's surname begins with R. I'm a bit conservative with names I think, it it might be great to pick something more unusual, but it has to be something you're really, truly comfortable with doesn't it?
Hedy is a lovely name BTW, where does it come from?

hobnob57 · 06/11/2009 11:08

Wizzy I remember now! Gosh, you've been keeping quiet about that recently/in denial. I totally understand where you're coming from re. induction (not wanting to put anyone here off). I've found it a real reassurance that they are willing to take my emotions about it into account and let me dictate how things will go. But I totally understand how hard it must be not only to be apprehensive about the birth but also apprehensive about what you'll be faced with afterwards. Regardless, he will be utterly gorgeous and tear your heart strings

Due date today. Babycentre have helpfully sent me an email about my newborn . I think that baby finally worked out how to engage last night (much BH activity, shoving and wriggling and ooohh kind of interesting pains). It was out again this morning as usual but I was feeling sore and grotty after a big curry last night. I thought a toilet trip had sorted that, but just had another huge BH and more screwing down sensations. It would be promising, except the pains aren't deep, and everything pops out if I bend over.

DD is at MILs today so I'm aiming not to be doing much bending. DH was funny this morning - he kept looking at me ans asking if I'll be ok because it's my due date - as if it is this day more than any other I'm likely to pop

Off to sort out my finances. I still haven't worked out the online banking for our new account we've had since August. And I'm normally a freak about it, keeping spreadsheets updated daily! Major head in sand syndrome, and we haven't even had any builder's bills yet! Speaking of which, the planning permission was granted on Wed so we should hear soon about a start date. The more I think about having to put up with earth moving equipment and angle grinders outside my living room French doors the more I wonder about the wisdom of this urgent, pregnancy-induced nesting decision!

hobnob57 · 06/11/2009 11:12

BTW - another names conversation with DH last night. I love the name Rory and he described it as "you know when you're blissfully asleep, cosy, warm, limbs like lead, in seventh heaven and DD comes in, shoves her teddy in your face and shouts 'wake up daddy! I've got rumblies in my tummy!' - that's what the name Rory does to me".

I guess I'll have to compromise.

WizzyWoo · 06/11/2009 11:31

Lissy If you're reading this while you're bedbound, I've just seen your facebook status but thought it best to comment on here instead amongst other people who understand - I'm sorry you're in so much pain. Did you go to hospital for all the paraphernalia or did someone come out to see you? I know it's hard to stay positive, especially when you're in so much pain but don't forget that we're here to talk to if you want

scarlotti · 06/11/2009 11:53

Lissy sorry to hear you're still in so much pain, can anyone come and give you anything for it? Sending you lots of sympathy and hugs.

wook DS was born 6 weeks before xmas 4 years ago so not so much being organised as remembering the hassle from then. Trying to keep myself occupied - not sure it's nesting as am just sat on my backside by the dining room table!!

hobnob DH asked me if I could not pop today as it's a busy day at work!!

hobnob57 · 06/11/2009 12:06

Forgot to say pav about the vaccine and newborns. The baby won't be immune to swine flu because it won't get the vaccine across the placenta, but it will be able to get the antibodies you make against swine flu after your injection and again if you come across it again this winter (and are 'immune') through the placenta and breast milk. It may not be enough to protect it fully from the symptoms, but it will definitely have a less severe reaction to it. However, I'm not a health expert - this is just what I teach my kids about all illnesses!

beepbeep · 06/11/2009 12:35

HI all, back from week away (and no baby here!!). Had quick read of last couple of pages, congratulations ursi and anyone else who may have popped and I've missed.

Ha lovey time with parents, but very glad to be back home, still have 2 and a half weeks til DD but really wanted to feel comfortable at home.

Had MW round this morning - they decided I should have a homebirth pack, just in case, as my previous 2 labours had been so quick. It wasn't my normal MW and this one said that apparently, due to DS' size I should have had a growth scan by now, so I have been booked to see a consultant for a referral next thursday. Bit upset as spent the whole pregnancy getting back to MW care so could go to birth centre and now at nearly 39 wks am bak to see consultant - hopefully, unless it is measuring big it won't make a difference to the plan tho.

Having loads of aches and pains here, but only the same as everyone else i'm sure, some of the BH hae started to go round int my back and some are hurting a bit - MW said that 3rd labours have a tendancy to be a bit stop start so could well be the start, but who knows?!

Trikken · 06/11/2009 12:37

Scarlotti and hobnob lets hope at least one of us pops today.

dh has just gone to work, he's on a late shift and is mightily disappointed the baby hasnt made an entrance yet. he told me any twinges at all I have to call him home.

WizzyWoo · 06/11/2009 12:47

Pav I've just been trying to tempt myself to eat something for lunch and all I can think about is your roast butternut squash soup! I've got a squash in so if I feel better tomorrow, I'll be making some myself. Do you roast the squash with anything on it or just some olive oil? Oh, craving alert!

Hobnob Yes, I've been doing my best ostrich impression over the last few months... Have you got a plan in place if you need to be induced (length of time, etc?)

Since Christmas has been mentioned today, I ought to tell you that according to the GMTV website, there are only 49 days left to go - I don't need that kind of information! Although if anyone goes into labour with the shock of what I've passed on, you can thank me later!

It doesn't seem like two minutes ago when last Christmas I didn't want to drink too much in case I was already pregnant since we'd just started TTC...

ErikaMaye · 06/11/2009 12:53

Hope you're all well today. My brother is on inset day, and is being a real sweetie. He came up and asked if I was okay because he's seen how "mean" mum has been to me recently, bless him. I took him out for cake and hot chocolate Got the bus down to the local shops and went in the cafe. We bitched about school and he talked about Bryn a lot - of course, winding me up asking "Is it a boy, a girl, or a really fat chocolate cake?" - saying "Well when I'm allowed to take him X / do Y with him..." was very sweet. We talked a little bit about our sister, and I said that I'd be moving next year. I expected his usual retort of "Yes, I finally get the bigger bedroom!!" - instead he just looked at me, then said, "I can still come visit though, right? And stay in the holisdays for a bit?". I was really quite touched. I guess that's one advantage of my parents being crappy at the moment - we're getting along better

Anyway, will go back and read now, just had to share that as its made me feel quite good today.

hobnob57 · 06/11/2009 13:03

Wizzy I've decided to refuse induction this time, and just play the waiting/scanning game. The consultant MW said that you can't be pregnant forever so something is bound to happen at some point! If there are any concerns re. fluid or placental function I'll have an elective, since it was the induction that led to my emcs last time I'd rather have the cs without the trauma beforehand! I'll see how long my resolve lasts. It occurred to me that I could already have a week-old baby if I'd gone for an elective

erika thank goodness for small mercies - your brother sounds like he's growing up a bit! What a sweetheart.
