Congrats Ursi wouldn't worry about birth not going to plan, once you have kids nothing ever goes to plan (or is that just me )

weston my ds has only just started playing by himself (he's 3 +2 months) and even then for 15mins top , then its back to "mummy come and do the puzzle with me", "mummy drive my truck round and round the table while I sit and watch"!!

TOK welcome to the offical overdue and fed up club. I'm 40+1 but doctors + MW have been predicting premature birth since i was 25weeks. Feels like the longest pregnancy in the human species (dp now refers to me as an elephant as they have a 2 year pregnancy) Can't have a sweep or an induction so basically playing a waiting. However think maybe baby have engaged as but is definately much lower + smaller plus indigestion has all but cleared. Hopefully he'll stay put tonight and not slide out again. Can't face MW tomorrow brightly telling me everythings progressing then checking my notes and finding nothings changes in the last month!

eeyore2 · 05/11/2009 16:36

Congratulations Ursi!!!
Hope you are all ok. I am off to a firework party now, hoping the bangs will scare the little one out! I am pretty much over being fed up now and am completely resigned to the baby not arriving for ages and ages. Due date is on Sunday so I'm trying to sort of 'reset' my mind to expect the baby to arrive around 10 days late, with anything earlier coming as a bonus.

hobnob57 · 05/11/2009 16:42

BBL DD is much better today, thanks for asking. It was really weird - she was very definitely not well yesterday but is pretty much normal today. A little nicer and clingier that usual (a sure sign she's not tip top) but full of beans too. A bit of a beige poo yesterday, so that may have been it.

Comma don't know about dental work, sorry.

I've just won a MN competition! Got some Vtech stuff coming my way apparently . My mum won't be pleased 'cos she was planning on getting some for DD for christmas, but we can work something else out I suppose.

I was also trying a bit more of that perineal massage stuff again this afternoon, and found some bright red blood on my fingers afterwards. I've a funny feeling I've just been really clumsy and scratched myself - it makes no sense to have bright red blood if baby and cervix are still really high, does it? My placenta is well out of the way as well, according to the scan. Will have to wait and see.

hobnob57 · 05/11/2009 16:46

weston I thought DD would NEVER play on her own at 2.5 - a whole summer of blowing bubbles with her and supervising sandpit and football, etc., but she has just recently started to find her imagination and play by herself more often. I think it was spending time with an older girl at Childminding who loved her role play games - DD apparently just watched her in awe as she made up these stories and scenarios. Teddies and the dolls house are now getting a second look & puzzles are a big hit right now too - she is 2.11.

WizzyWoo · 05/11/2009 17:10

Hey Pav glad you're here! You can tell we're starting to get jumpy, can't you?! I was offered the swine flu vaccine on Tuesday when I saw my MW and declined, mainly because I've never had a flu vaccine before. It's so confusing, isn't it, especially when lots of people in the NHS aren't having it... In theory I won't need one now since the doc thinks I've got it anyway.

Thanks, Comma, I'll take what you said on board over the weekend and pull my head out of the sand ready for Monday. I just feel like this week is going so slowly - I'm less worried about going over my due date than I am about the consultant appointment (maybe because we've had so many complications, I've come out of each appointment either in shock or in tears...)
I hope you get on ok at the dentist. I had to go last time I was pregnant and they wouldn't do anything until DD was born except put some strange paste on. That was over 2 years ago and I still haven't had the tooth removed, as it's unfortunately a wisdom tooth where the root runs too close to a nerve meaning an oral surgeon will have to remove it along with the others since they're all sitting at odd angles. Sod's law I finally got my letter to come in to discuss the op the week after I found out I was pregnant, so I'm having to wait until January to see the surgeon again.

DH has gone to pick DD up from nursery. I've really missed her today but I'm dreading her coming home in a way, because she's at the age where she doesn't understand if someone needs to rest or isn't well and will be clambering all over me and wanting to play... Hopefully she won't have had a sleep at nursery, so she'll want an early night tonight (fat fingers crossed).

tigger32 · 05/11/2009 17:12

Huge Congratulations to Ursi and welcome to baby Paula

Just popping in quickly as very tired, will catch up tomorrow

BeckyBendyLegs · 05/11/2009 17:14

Ursi I completely missed your message! durrr. Congrats! Here's your poem....

And now another, Ursigurke - well done!
Another bun coming out of the oven!
I'm pleased that Paula is doing well
She'll be your little star, I can tell
We're so pleased to have another baby
Waiting for mine is driving me crazy!!!!!

Well not quite rhyming perfectly but there you go.

Hobnob glad your DD is better.

Wizzy poor you with piggy flu. Hope you feel better soon. I was acosted at the doctors today by some woman on reception who said 'you need to be vaccianted!' We'll ring you up! I was a bit flabbergasted. Huh?

OP posts:
BeckyBendyLegs · 05/11/2009 17:15

Vaccianted? What sort of word is that? And me working in publishing.

OP posts:
WizzyWoo · 05/11/2009 17:18

I have got to type faster! Sorry for the X posts...

Eeyore You're due the same date as me - I've got the same firework plan in place for Sunday, but failing that, I've got a secondary due date pencilled on the calendar for 18th Nov, as I read somewhere about 10 days over being the average... Let's hope we meet our babies before then

Hobnob Well done on the competition! I know it's probably nothing, but please promise you'll ring the hospital for advice if you notice any more blood?

ErikaMaye · 05/11/2009 17:19

Will go read things momentarily, but first must ask - is anyone else hoping the fireworks tonight might kick start labour?!

scarlotti · 05/11/2009 17:20

Congrats usi

Well, if the baby doesn't come after today's efforts then the upright and active brigade can go shove it!!
Went into town around 9:30 and did 2 hours walking and shopping. Home to chill over lunch, then have changed 2 beds quite vigorously and put the dinner on. Got BH's whilst doing the beds so it was obviously active enough!!

Don't see what else I can do now really. Conception date puts me due today but lmp date is tomorrow. Ds was born at 40+5 but was really hoping this one would come a little earlier than that ... also as 40+5 this time is also on DS' birthday!

wizzy hope you're not feeling too rough.

hobnob57 · 05/11/2009 17:29

Meant to say I have decided to go for the vaccine on Saturday as (eventually) offered by GP's surgery. I still haven't received my letter..... I don't usually get 'flu (have had it twice, once was in Japan so didn't have natural immunity to their version!) but I'd like the reassurance of the LO being protected as DD will be bringing in germs, as will DH from work. Have dithered and dithered over the different types of vaccine but have just decided to go for it. I think

raggie · 05/11/2009 17:33

Congratulatios ursi! And welcome to Paula

Hello TOK! Poor you overdue I am waaaayyy at the end of the list here - due 30th November so only just made it into this warm and cosy thread ;) - so I can't imagine how I will feel after another possible 5+ weeks of maternity leave without baby...! Although pootling around in our new house is suiting me all right for the moment.

Oh poor wizzy! You must be feeling awful My colleague had swine flu over the summer so I know almost first hand how awful it is. There was a GP at my nct class the other day pavlov and I asked her views about the jab. She said she's not having it as due too soon (day after me) and on mat leave now so not interacting with as many people these days and also since flu jab can give you a mild dose of flu, same thing will happen with SF jab and she doesn't want that too happen. Having said that, DH has just come home complaining of coming down with a cold and he sits in a room with 30+ other people at college all day. Who knows what to do?

Oh and me me me - got a letter in the post asking me to come into the surgery to have the blood tests from my last mw check up done again, of course with no reason for why! I HATE having blood taken, I always nearly faint so a bit annoyed and a teensy bit worried, though hopefully it's just because they couldn't get results on the last ones properly....or something.

raggie · 05/11/2009 17:34

hobnob the GP I was talking to said that the baby doesn't get immunity from the vaccine, is that not right?

BeckyBendyLegs · 05/11/2009 17:57

I've heard, but might be wrong, that the SF jab is a 'dead' vaccination which means it isn't the live virus so you won't get flu-like symptoms from it. And it won't stop you from getting the virus it'll just feel like a bad cold instead if you do pick it up. This from my medical sister - no idea how accurate her knowledge is! I don't know what to do about having it or not. Only week and a half to go but fancy getting flu with new born to look after? Hmmmm. Not sure.

Raggie I had flu in Japan too! Funny. It wasn't that bad but put me in bed for two days. I was staying with a family and they weren't best pleased with me because as I got better they all came down with it. I had to fly back to the UK with the most painful ears ever! I thought I was dying.

OP posts:
BeckyBendyLegs · 05/11/2009 17:57

Meant Hobnob not Raggie! Durrr. Sorry!

OP posts:
Laugs · 05/11/2009 18:00

I've decided to have the vaccine too, if my surgery gets it in time. I asked today and they still don't have any. Apparently all the supplies have gone 'down south'... since Hobnob and Wizzy both live north of me that can't be true. You've gotta love Geordies.

I hope you don't feel too bad with it wizzy tigger great news about your step-dad! He sounds like he'll be right as rain in no time.

erika we're off to the fireworks! Kind of hoping it might have some effect, but then again I am only 37 weeks and DH is supposed to be going to see his brother tomorrow in Kent, which is about 7 hours away! So maybe not...

scarlotti you get full marks for effort - you deserve a baby straight away

comma I guess the filling issue is to do with pain relief? If the dentist doesn't know then the midwife should. Strange the dentist doesn't know though. I thought pregnancy was renowned for playing havoc with your teeth.

Laugs · 05/11/2009 18:06

I've also been told it is a dead virus so you can't get flu from it. I was told that when I had the seasonal flu jab last week (I'm asthmatic), which is also 'dead'. The nurse said you might get a headache or temperature but it would only last 24 hours. I didn't get any symptoms.

It's a tough choice though, eh?

becky ouch. I once flew just with a bad cold and I thought my head was actually going to explode. The pressure was insane!

misssese · 05/11/2009 18:10

PAV we were saying it could be the baby becoming engaged yay!!! i feel like my baby has disengaged been out for cakes with a friend today ( could resist after all the cake chat on here)people kept stopping to ask when i was due which was nice as havent really had that be4 ( prob london !!) Also question for everyone!! got my 40 week MW appointment on wed il be over due then is she likely to do a sweep and if so whats it like??? thanks

misssese · 05/11/2009 18:12

congrats ursi so exciting and lovely name - we wanna see pics!!!

turtle23 · 05/11/2009 18:12

Not trying to worry anyone, just posting this in case anybody wants some more reading. To vaccinate or not...
swine flu

VenusInfers · 05/11/2009 18:15

Re Safety of Swine Flu Jab read this article from the respected journal 'New Scientist'.

Ursi Congrats!!! So glad to hear that Paula is here safely!

Will pop back later, just had to pass on the swine flu stuff....

BeckyBendyLegs · 05/11/2009 18:18

missese I think she'll offer you a sweep in a few days from your appointment rather than do it there and then. They aren't the most pleasant thing in the world but they don't hurt, just uncomfortable for a few seconds. I had two with DS1 and they didn't work at all!

We're making toffee apples here Ooooh yummy!

OP posts:
misssese · 05/11/2009 18:30

thanks becky yum toffee apples! another question for everyone ( i have no friends with babies to get info out of) how does drinking alcohol and breastfeeding work is it totally off limits?? at an antenatal class the midwife said you can eat and drink everything while breastfeeding. Wasnt too sure if she was including alcohol in this. Sorry if im being really thick but i keep getting conflicting advice when i look online!

BeckyBendyLegs · 05/11/2009 18:31

I've just burnt my bump on boiling water! I was trying to get toffee off the spoon. What an idiot. The toffee apples taste nice though.
