Wow what a lot of chat again!!

Tamlin CONGRATULATIONS!! and well done you on finding that foot! I'm interested to know what to feel for when checking the cervix, how should it feel?

Becky Loving the poem Keep it up!

wook Your poor ds, hope is feeling better very soon.

lissy hope those practice contractions soon turn into real ones!

I have decided that as long as I can get through the next week (half term) then I'm ready for the baby to come. I have lots of nice things planned with my boys so really don't want them (or me) to miss out.

I feel like I'm burying my head in the sand a bit re swine flu jab, I'm not keen on having something not tested on pg women or babies (I don't want to be a guinea pig) BUT... I don't want to risk my baby's life/well being by not having it! I'm so confused....

On a more positive note, we has ds1's parents evening last night and the teacher is really happy with him

lemontop · 22/10/2009 13:58

Tamlin congratulations! So pleased it all turned out ok in the end.

ErikaMaye · 22/10/2009 14:06

Wook your poor DS I hope he feels better soon.

Tigger glad to hear parents evening went well

DPs friend just popped by for coffee in his lunch hour with his dog, which was lovely - doggy cuddles are the one thing I miss when I'm here!!

hobnob57 · 22/10/2009 14:14

Congratulations you two Tamlin!! Remember to TAKE IT EASY - easier than you think you need to after that surgery and shock. And enjoy those snuggles .

pav glad you managed to get some bras. I'm hoping mine'll be a lovely surprise after I've forgotten I ordered in Nov!

Turtle your DH is a twat. What married man in his right mind would need to put condoms in his wallet anyway, even if he did just find them? I really hope that you find release and peace soon.

wook I hope your DS feels better soon. we've all come down with something in this house this week. I've been feeling irrationally grumpy and weird all week and am most definitely glandy and over-tired today. DH is off work having had the trots all week with sweats and shakes to boot. DD is claiming she 'isn't feeling very well' but then again she says that a lot to try and worm her way out of instructions. Hope it all passes soon. Wook, what did doc say about you getting it?

venus DD didn't engage in my 1st pg. In fact, I was sent to see a consultant at 38 or 39 weeks about it, at which point she engaged for the examination. I walked out like John Wayne, thinking 'oh this is why pg women waddle' and as soon as I sat in the car she popped out again. Little critter. My birth story isn't a great one so I'll stop there, but I don't know whether the engagement thing was related or not.

lissy keep those contractions coming

LissyGlitter · 22/10/2009 15:00

Meh. About 5 painful contractions over the course of today. Enough to make me have to do special breathing and everything, but not regular enough to mean anything. Getting very annoyed now! My body is definitely thinking about labour, baby is apparently really well engaged, boobs are dripping, appetite is gone, I feel all restless and unsettled, I've had a little show, I'm at the same point where DD was born, so every morning I wake up thinking "this could be the day!" and then nothing happens. I really need to take my mind off it and just let nature take it's course, but all through the pregnancy I have been aiming at 36 weeks, and now it's here I'm going loopy!

SO glad I'm having a section so won't go overdue, I think I would have killed someone by that point!

turtle23 · 22/10/2009 15:18

Tamlin..CONGRATS! And well done for going with your instinct and checking yourself!

ErikaMaye · 22/10/2009 16:20

Ladies could I just ask? What do men need to treat thrush? Doctors surgery just called me and apparently the swab they did the other week when I had my scare showed I have it. Odd, I don't feel (or didn't feel) any different, have never had it before either... But they said I needed him to have treatment too. Can I buy him Camaden (sp?) or does he need to go to the GP? Thanks

This should be an interesting conversation - he thought until the other day that it was an STI...

Fruitpastels · 22/10/2009 16:24

It's amazing how fast this thread moves!

Wow Tamlin Congrats on the safe arrival of your baby boy! Well done you

Lissy Hope your body decides soon what it wants to do. I have been feeling like this for over a week now, but no loss of appetite. I think my stomach is making the most of this new found space and I can fit loads more in!

I've gone a bit crazy with the nesting today. Have loads of energy and hoping this all means something. I do feel more relaxed and the baby will arrives when it feels like it.

wook I hope your DS bounces back quickly. I agree with the refusal of the Tamiflu as I've heard it can have horrible side effects.

Trikken · 22/10/2009 16:24

do you mean canesten? im not sure whether its something men can use or not, you could ask a pharmacy in boots etc as they should be able to tell you.

ErikaMaye · 22/10/2009 16:26

That's the one, ta Trikken - my mind has run away today...

Trikken · 22/10/2009 16:29

tis ok, mine is probably as bad. ooh best wake up ds, he is still napping!

lucieerin · 22/10/2009 16:39

Bleuch, please no talk of food, have been up all night chucking up - just trying to keep fluids down now, think I've got a bug or something

Laugs · 22/10/2009 16:46

Erika I'd have thought DH could probably use the canesten cream. You also need to wash your towels.

Wook Hope DS is feeling a bit better and you are still feeling alright.

Lissy You must be getting really fed up. I hope things hurry up for you. It must be harder that DD was born early as that changes the due date in your mind. I am having the opposite problem, in that I'm sort of assuming this baby is bound to be 2 weeks late. If it comes anywhere near 37 weeks I will be in complete shock.

hobnob57 · 22/10/2009 16:47

Awww lucie, hope it eases soon.

DH and I have been talking about names for boys (haven't got round to girls yet!). We have the same impasse as last time - the ones that we both like have all been used by friends or family, the ones that I suggested which DH also likes have all been used by my aunt and uncle for their dogs in the past (I didn't tell him that DD's name was one of them too ), and the rest we disagree on or are names of footballers (we have a common surname). Grrr. I might just have to put my foot down after the birth.

EasyEggs · 22/10/2009 16:50

Wow Lissy sounding like you're all ready to go, fingers crossed for you

Erika yes men can use Canesten too. He might prefer to take the oral pill form as it's less messy and less hassle. Shame we can't use that pill whilst we're preggers too. I've had thrush almost constantly for the last 3months despite various treatment. Looks like I'll just have to live with it until I'm "back to normal!"

I had MW this afternoon. All fine until she measured me and found I am still measuring 33wks, which is what I measured at last appointment when I was 34wks. Am now 36+2

She tried a few times and couldn't make it any bogger so rang to get me a scan. Spent next 20mins ringing around as csanning dept have no appointments for next 2wks. Surely they could fit in an "emergency?"

So basically had to go away and wait for mw to call me. She rang not long ago to say I need to go to day assesment unit Monday morning for them to look me over and decide if I do need a scan or not.

Am not too impressed to say the least. I'm sure baby is fine as she is still a little wriggler but if there was/is something not quite right then surely it needs dealing with asap??

Well we shall see Monday I suppose. Typically would be half term next week too so will have to get someone to watch all 4 of the dc's!

EasyEggs · 22/10/2009 16:51

Oh no Lucie really hope you're better soon xx

mumsiebumsie · 22/10/2009 18:09

Easyeggs it is bad that they couldn't find someone to scan you today. It doesn't take long! However as you say I'd take a lot of comfort in the fact that baby is moving around. I was measured by my midwife on Tuesday and she said i'm measuring a week further along than I am, but the sonographer who scanned me recently said baby was smaller than average.

At least you'll know for sure on Monday.

eeyore2 · 22/10/2009 19:02

Hi everyone! Just popping in, I really can't keep up with you all.
Tamlin - congratulations!! such fantastic news. You really have nerves of steel, I am so impressed.
Lissie - good luck!
Kyte - I'm going to make your cookies tomorrow, thanks for the recipe.
Well, at my end all is ok. I still have miserable reflux and was up last night between 2am and 6am with it, finally falling asleep on the sofa with sheer exhaustion. I had a nap this afternoon though and am feeling a bit better. Gaviscon isn't really working but my doctor said I could take Zantac which I'm going to try now.
My DH's grandma had a big operation today, a hysterectomy. She is in her 80s and they think it is probably cancer which is very sad. I have decided (actually suggested by my inlaws) not to go and visit her in hospital because I didn't think it was worth exposing myself to all those infections, so instead tomorrow I'm going to make her favourite cake for DH to take her in hospital. Then to add to the fun my brother-in-law seems to have swine flu, so I have to avoid him as well and also get DH to avoid him, to avoid the nightmare scenario of DH getting swine flu when I am 38 weeks. So everyone in the family is now urging me to 'keep my legs crossed' for a couple of weeks until the sick people have recovered - as if it's my decision when the baby decides to put in an appearance!

ErikaMaye · 22/10/2009 19:20

Thanks for that - haven't told him yet, might slip him a glass of wine first... Have told him its not an STI but goodness knows how long he's thought it is!! I've never had it before, though had heard its common in pregnancy.

EasyEggs that's almost exactly what happened to me. I've been booked in for an emergency scan - on Monday Will let you know what they say.

Stormfly · 22/10/2009 19:49

wook - hope you and ds are bearing up okay. Didn't the experts decide that Tamiflu isn't usually helpful for dcs under 12 anyway? And Relenza is for once you actually have SF - though as you say, how are we supposed to know if it's that or some other lurgy doing the rounds? Anyway, sounds like you are doing all the right things - rest, drink plenty, and I hope you both feel better soon.

helips · 22/10/2009 20:16

Hi all,

Tamlin congrats on the arrival of your baby boy. Am also very impressed with how calmly you dealt with the situation, think I would have freaked out! Think Felix is a gorgeous name, if you decide to go with that. Make sure you get lots of rest and don't get up and do things to early as it will only set you back. Let family members wait on you and just concentrate on your new little bundle!

Turtle so sorry to read what you have been going through with your nobbo husband. In the long run you and your boys are well shot of him and I feel sorry for the poor woman who ends up with him next, if he can ever find anyone to put up with him that is. You, on the other hand, will meet someone else who deserves you and treats you with respect and will live happy ever after.

easyeggs that is so bad about your scan. Hope they can give you some piece of mind on Monday though.

wook your poor ds, hope he feels better soon and that you don't catch it.

pavlov I've been getting those pains down below too and feels worse this pregnancy. Don't remember getting them as much with ds.

Back feels a teeny bit better today but am off for some more acupuncture tomorrow so hopefully that'll sort it. Not much else to report, no twinges, bh or anything, bit boring really!

skorpion · 22/10/2009 21:10

Hey, how is it that I go on mat leave and seem to be much, MUCH more busy than in the office?! Haven't stopped all week and haven't even got one clean corner in the house to show for it...

Tamlin Congratulations!!! How lovely. And thanks, I would never think to check myself, not eeww, just not something I'd think of. Well done for keeping your cool. Enjoy your baby.

BBL well done on the poem! And congrats on the little star of a son.

wook I hope the wook household beats all lurgies soon. Best wishes.

lemontop nice to hear from you, too. Glad all is well.

Welcome lucieerin!

Well, don't know what's happening to me, just the bleh feeling is back... Have lots of jobs to do, be it housework or bookkeeping, and can't seem to decide where to start. I never did staying at home well, but was really looking forward to the leave. I think I just need a fresh start tomorrow and some proper organised planning. Sorry to ramble.

Thanks for all the tips about nappies and wipes. I'm going for reusables, but not in the first few days / weeks. Need to work out how to put them on first and how to dress the kid, too.

I seem to have accumulated lots of stuff lately, not by shopping, just friends' and family's generosity. It's amazing.

Anyway, enough gloom from me. Looking forward to some quality entertainment on Question Time tonight. Sleep well, xx.

Comma2 · 22/10/2009 21:21

Well done, Tamlin ! Congratulations and enjoy!! Felix is a very sweet name.

Don't have time to reply to all, just wanted to let you know about this site here

I don't believe much in doing accupuncture yourself, but trying the points that said: 'not allowed in pregnancy' gave me some massive and immediate BHs. Works for me!

Comma2 · 22/10/2009 21:24

Oh, and this site is probably already known to everybody, but really really helps to time contractions in the middle of the night (or anytime for math-challenged pregnant ladies like me).

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 22/10/2009 21:39

tamlin what a fab story, good on you for having a clue!
