Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Arcadie · 28/11/2009 18:18

Afribaby Thanks for the cataloguing potential. How nice to have someone else due at the end of the month. My first 2 kids were each 2 weeks overdue and therefore induced. This one WILL NOT BE

PacificDogwood · 28/11/2009 18:37

Arcadie, good luck with the arriving-on-time-baby ! If you can sort out 16/17 year old a teeny-tiny baby Will. Not. Defeat. You. That is the power of positive thinking.

I say this kindly as 42 week gestationer (is that a word??) myself . As I am planning on working inot my 39th work, I am kind of hoping this one will be a bit late...it'd be nice to have a couple of weeks at home on my own ...

scooby26 · 28/11/2009 19:01

Hi all.selfish quick post for which i apologise.anyone else having one of those crap weeks. Im struggling with my balance, everything i pick up or touch i knock over or drop and now ive fallen down the soddin stairs! Got a bit of a shock, but my own fault.now cold and feeling sorry for myself. Not bleeding or cramping but baby gone into hiding! Sure just because i gave him a big shock! Not gettin the big kicks at mo,think a few shuffles but cant decide-how daft that i cant decide if hes moving or my imagination! If I was him id be in a huff after his little ride!

Pingpong · 28/11/2009 21:18

sorry to hear you are having a bad week scooby and even worse that you've had a tumble. Hope you've felt some movement since you posted. Have you tried some of the old tricks - chocolate, caffeine or a cold, cold drink? I found a warm bath often got lots of movement as well and then you have the joy of watching your belly wobble around when they move. If you are still worried then call your mw and say you've had a fall. Someone should be able to come round and check with the doppler.
busymisslizzy LOL at your wee stain that sounds like something I would say. Tonight I've got a pain in my abdomen, above my tummy button, not BH more of a constant pain that gets sharper when I move. Can't remember anything like it last time. Think I might just head to bed and see how I feel in the morning.
Tesco shopping was a real struggle this afternoon, it was mobbed and DD kept chucking stuff overboard and I am finding bending down increasingly difficult. I seriously think I'm the same size as I was at term last pregnancy. 13 weeks to go. . . .

MummyElk · 29/11/2009 05:00

hi all...
Any room for a self-indulgent, feeling-sorry-for-myself post??
I'm STILLLL ill...... and there is no other way to put it other than I Feel Like Shit......
This is since the 19th, btw, and from someone who's never ill for more than three days, my patience is wearing very thin....cough is wearing off, but have NO energy, my head feels like it's going to explode (honestly) with a basic headache from my neck upwards...think it's probably sinuses now? not sure. I can't remember the last time i breathed through my nose or tasted any food...sob...and my final gripe is - WHY did i feel better on FRIDAY when I could have gone to the GP and moaned done something about this when instead it's middle of the night in the middle of the weekend with only out of hours GPs or walk in centres?
DH has to work tomorrow so am hoping Elk is a good girl and happy with CBeebies, I can't do much else....
I'm so fed up. Sorry to moan. Just feels like this won't ever end

Arcadie · 29/11/2009 09:21

MummyElk It does sound a LOT like sinusitis which I had over summer and got to the point where I wanted to end it all I was in so much pain. I tried something called a sinus washout and it cleared up in 12 hours. It's here. If you get desperate enough! (bit pricey though but I think you can get it at Boots)

Arcadie · 29/11/2009 09:23

OK I didn't really think I'd kill myself but it gave me a new found appreciation of people who have chronic pain/illness and just have to keep going. THere's no way I was getting out of bed most days I had it.

Scooby Glad baby's up and bouncing again.

scooby26 · 29/11/2009 12:57

Mummyelk-really sorry youre still ill,tis not fair! From 8pm last night i got braxton hicks constantly-literally one after another, but no pain. I rang maternity unit at dh insistence and was told to go in to be checked out. It was unsettling but i did feel i was wasting their time. Anyway, few hours later, lots of fetal monitoring, kicks and internal-all well.did confirm from the monitoring that i was contracting but happy it wasnt producutive.at least it confirmed i wasnt imagining it! Got to bed after 2am so very tired but glad all well. Hope you all have a restful and warm weekend. And good luck iwcas for getting through this next week x

hello all
thanks for your sympathy, much appreciated and kind...
arcadie that washout looks actually quite appealing which must say something i suppose?!
scooby poor you - sounds like you did the right thing so well done, best to do what DHs say in those sort of circumstances i find?!! hope you get some rest today.
Right i'm off to sit with my head over a bowl of steaming water....again.
IWCAS you're still in my thoughts, i hope your weekend is ok and I know what you mean about the funeral - i'm sure it will be a real celebration of what was a sadly shortened but nonetheless valued life

I have a cold as well now, feeling quite poorly but not as bad as some of you by the sounds of it... Hope everyone gets better very soon!

Ok I will now catch up a bit more properly...

Caitni - we didn't really celebrate thanksgiving, DH didn't mention it and I didn't realise until I read your post. Sounds like you were having a nice one. Be careful when you dry your legs in the shower, we don't want any more falls! (I leave mine wet.)

Talking about DH, he brought me back some lovely maternity clothes from this shop in the States called Motherhood. A pair of jeans that are so comfy I now wear them instead of sweatpants! They are over the bump and quite snug/stretchy so don't fall down. And I got a couple of tops and sweatpants too.

Arcadie - I'm glad you were able to teach the med students about special cuddles! Don't worry about sleeplessness, that's just nature's way of getting you used to sleep deprivation! No, but have you tried eating more before you go to bed? Or bring a snack to the bed maybe... you might be hungry.

I find I'm so hungry all of a sudden, wanna eat all the time!

Sariska - maybe you should try weaning your DS before the new baby comes... perhaps not good if he drinks the colostrum and milk meant for the baby? (But I don't know, there might be enough for them both.) Also, I've heard that any changes are best done well before the birth, so that the older child doesn't think that the baby is taking something away from them... ie their cot, their room, their boobs, etc. Must be hard if he doesn't want to stop but I'm sure it can be done if YOU want to. I've seen a Supernanny episode about that, Supernanny just told them both that they were to be weaning in 3 days and it worked...

My DD won't drink milk from a sippy cup either, she drinks water and juice but not milk. So she still has a bottle once or twice a day...

Manda - it must be so frustrating for you being banned from sex especially since you're used to doing it rampantly every day... But perhaps there's other "activities" you and DP can engage in, that are more safe...? (I'm not talking about collecting stamps here ) When is your next scan to check if the placenta has moved? Sounds like you should have those tests for the haema thing like Pacific suggests. Always better to know, yes? And hope you get your bugaboo?! Yes of course you must check the latest post before you submit your post, that goes without saying.

Uggs... did anyone read last Sunday Mail's columnist Liz bloody Jones, she wrote that maternity leave is just an excuse for middle class yummy mummies to put their Uggs up! Or something like that. Of course she doesn't have any kids herself.

Smac - 40F, blimey! Perhaps you can start a milk round later...? Bad joke, apparently boob size has nothing to do with milk production (?) I'm currently wearing a 34E bra but it's slightly too big so must have been bigger towards the end of last pg. Normally 34C.

Heckle - good luck with the teaching, I'm sure you'll be great! I once worked as a substitute teacher, one of my jobs was teaching biology about "the birds & the bees" to 15-year-olds. It was ok, quite funny really. One lesson I decided to do a question box, anonymously, they asked questions like "what do you do if you want to have sex but your girlfriend says no?". Bless...

Scooby - glad you're ok! OMG, constant BH, that must have felt so weird.

IWCAS - great that you're in bloom, and well done making a tutu! One of these days I will make something too, I'm sure I could if I tried... was pretty good at sewing in school, remember making a pair of mint green trousers (very 80s) that I wore every day.

MummyElk - when I was really badly congested a couple of months ago I was so dying to take decongestant tablets (pseudoephedrine) as they always help so much! I was googling lots and came to the conclusion that I was confident it would not harm my baby (unless you have high BP when it could be risky, or maybe not in first trimester). This is of course not something I would recommend, we all have to make our own decisions! Anyway, I feel sorry for you and I hope you don't have/get sinusitis! Drink lots of water as you get more dehydrated when you have to breathe through your mouth...

Nothing much is up here, except tomorrow night I'm going to a rock gig in London! The band is called Vain, from California, I sort of know the guitar player from before I met DH, about 3 years ago I spent the night in his hotel room! But nothing "happened", only a little snog. We have kept in touch since on myspace. DH is coming too, we are both meant to be on the guestlist... so looking forward to a hopefully fun night out!

hecklephone · 29/11/2009 16:50

Thanks for the words of encouragement about teaching, gals. I'm still a bit apprehensive but am willing to give it a bash - and I figure, if I hate it, I have a pretty effective 'out' come March...!

Still sniffling from the cold here too. Getting fed up with the amount of gunk I'm producing from my nose on an hourly basis (sorry TMI!!) and feeling a bit run down too.

Still, to cheer myself up I may have overdosed on a fab roast chicken dinner which my mum made this afternoon at my request - she's a star. Haven't felt baby move since because I think she's been squashed into a corner by too many roast potatoes!

Ok, opinions now please - am watching a few Loola pushchairs on ebay just now, but need advice. I thought, since I know this one's also a girl that I should just go pink, but now I'm wondering if I'd regret it?! So - pink prams - tacky or no?

PacificDogwood · 29/11/2009 17:46

Evening, all.

I am TIRED, long entertaing but exhausting day (visit to MIL, visit to ceramic painting place with 3 DSs, chaos )!

Scooby, your fall sounded scary, glad you and bump are ok.

Mummyelk, whenever I have in the greater scheme of things a minor illness that I feel really rotten with, I feel humbled by people who life day in, day out with chronic illness/disability/pain.
Having said that, it is often us well folk who just do not do illness v well .
It does sound like sinusitis, your symptoms, try the washout, steam with menthol crystal/tigerbalm/vicks may also help. If it does not go away, consider ABs? Decongestants are not licensed for pregnancy, iirc.
And of course your problems flare up when easy access to a GP is not possible - Law of Sod, works every time!!

Hecklephone, as a mother with exclusively boys I obviously do not have a clue, so feel free to ignore me, but: nooooo to pink pram! Too much pink everywhere, it is suffocating me, please desist !! Go with red, cheerful and bright, but not simpering and too cutesy-cute. Sorry, baby-pink makes my eyeballs itch, but so does baby-blue. Mad, I know, as I said, ignore .

I have 2 night's out this coming week, too too tired, but know I will go and love it!

scooby26 · 29/11/2009 19:16

Hi all,

had my feet up all day. Still getting strong braxton hicks, I've had them for weeks but not this strong or frequent, only since the fall. Wonder if I rest up does that help them go away?? Is it an excuse to be off wwork?? Don't want them to turn into proper contractions after all!!

PIXIE- hope ballet goes well when she makes it out of the bathroom! I too have asthma but it only bothers me when I get a cold or am near an allergen then it goes really haywire and I need steroids. The hospital was so hot and dry last night it set me off there. Not a good sign- mental note to take inhaler to labour!!! Hope yours keeps inproving.

I have decided that these last couple of weeks of tiredness have given me a newfound respect for those of you non first timers- I really don't know how you manage feeling soooo tired with small DC's running round making demands too!!!!

Off for more feet up and more chocolate. Is it wrong to snooze on the sofa

mumbot · 29/11/2009 19:40

Mmm chocolate - and snoozing on sofa = good scooby

Things I learned today:

  1. xmas shopping + 6.5m pregnant + toddler in tow = bad back and pyjama craving at 4pm

  2. if I bend down wearing my bump band, it pings off

  3. just reading about chocolate makes me want to eat it

hugs to all

xxxxxxx

Pingpong · 29/11/2009 19:50

oh ladies I'm really sorry but I need a HUGE moan. I've been spewing since 8am. That pain I had in my bump last night got worse through the night so I called the mw at 8am (she sounded almost as rough as me!)after I had been sick once and one loose 'motion' she said it sounded like a stomach bug and there wasn't much that could be done but there was lots going around and to call back if I was still sick after 24 hours.
As soon as I put the phone down I had violent action both ends (sorry TMI)and it's been pretty much like that all day, mostly every hour. I haven't been able to keep any fluid down and haven't even tried solids. DH looked after DD all day but had to go to work for his night shift at 5.30 so I had to do the last 2 hours of DD care - spewed twice
I phoned my Mum and asked if she saw a magic carpet flying by to jump on and come to my rescue. She is about 500 miles away so truly wishful thinking!
Anyway I'm going to bed very soon with my bucket very handy.
hecklephone I have no teaching advice or experience but good luck. I really don't like pink prams - sorry. I cringe when I see them in town. I have a navy P&T and a black zapp so I'm dead boring - red car seats though! I don't go for the top to toe pink look though so feel free to ignore me!
IWCAS it's going to be a hard week for you but enjoy (if that is the right word) the opportunity to catch up with good friends and remember the good times.
Pacific sorry I forgot to mention the last time about your recurring UTI. Sounds really frustrating.
mummyelk I've just recovered from a bad cold and bout of sinusitus. I did steaming, saline nasal douches, rubbed vick all over my chest, used those 'breathe right' strips on my nose at night, had 3 pillows so I was really propped up, took paracetemol and eventually went to the GP and got antibiotics and TBH that is what shifted it in the end. Hope you feel better soon.
scooby glad you've been checked out. I never had BH at all with DD so I'm curious as to whether I'll get them this time. The stomach pain I had last night felt like I'd been kicked/punched in the stomach but high up above my tummy button but today when I've been sick I've had real spasms of sharp pain - like a knife going in, but no tightening or feeling of belly going hard so I still think it's no BH for me.
pixie glad the inhalers are making a difference.
manda you are quiet again - hope you're not back in the hospital ?
and sorry for those I've missed - I've got too many tabs open as it is without opening any more. The whole laptop will freeze!

MummyElk · 29/11/2009 19:59

quick one for smac (thanks rest for your thoughts and suggetsions, much appreciated, i'm going to try them all!!)
Smac I had an awful tummy bug about this time in my last pg, it was awful so I'm really writing to give you huge sympathy - i found the tummy cramps absolutely terrible and at one point got admitted. try and keep hydrated, keep calm and get lots of rest. I think you can take those rehydrating salts drinks when pg, and if not, lucozade and the like will do you some good too - just check the caffeine levels. it's so horrid without the DH there too isn't it, even if it's for a couple of hours?!
Tomorrow Is Another Day....fingers crossed you and I will be on that fabled road to recovery by then

and pacific you're right about humbleness, have already seen some threads on here to do that...am off to GP tomorrow earlydoors to see what he/she suggests too, about time i get back on my feet i think.

scooby glad to hear you are taking it easy. if it's any comfort, my friend who had strong BH all through her pg had the most AMAZING birth..... so fingers crossed your body is just doing that bit from Rocky and singing Eye of the Tiger to itself...it'll be raring to go!!!

Pingpong · 29/11/2009 20:14

thanks mummyelk I had a d&v bug at about 9w - DD got it first though and passed it on to me. It floored me, even once the d&v had passed I just felt so weak. Hopefully I'll not pass it on to DD this time.
I've tried rehydration sachets and spewed and the lucozade stayed down for 1h15 then came back in technicoloured orange (sorry tmi again) I'm going to go to bed now, might try another rehydration sachet before I go. Being pregnant and ill is hard work
annamama enjoy your night out - I hope you are feeling up to it and yes I could have fed half the street with DD milk was literally pouring out of me. I was using breast cup things but then realised that the suction caused even more milk to be produced and they filled up so quick I kept spilling it as I was trying to decant into a cottage cheese tub. This time I'm just going to keep the muslins very close to hand at all times and not bother with breast cups breast shell is that it?

hecklephone · 29/11/2009 20:48

Oh dear mummyelk, hope the sickness passes soon. It's really rubbish to be so I'll- especially when pg.

I think you're all about to confirm what I already suspected. Pink pram = v bad idea. I don't know why I had the idea in the first place- maybe a hormone rush?? Anyway, I'm now thinking black is a good idea, with a brighter shade of cosytoes so it's not too dull- at least you can change accessories if you go off them!

Healing thoughts to all those suffering various bugs! Xxx

hecklephone · 29/11/2009 20:58

Sorry, I did of course mean to say smac hope you're feeling better soon (and you too mummyelk!)

PacificDogwood · 29/11/2009 21:09

D+V is just the worst, my sympathies!

Black pram, hm, very stylish, you could do lots of funky things with colourful accessories. Yep, thumbs up for that idea, heckle.

Pixie, glad your feeling better!

MummyElk · 30/11/2009 05:41

morning all, time for my early morning rant hello to everyone
headache is pretty awesome tonight, have had about an hour sleep in total. doesn't matter too much, since DD off to childminder in the morning and i am DEFINITELY off the GP rather than work. the only thing i can really do is sit upright in a dimmed room, tv isn't great and haven't a hope in hell of reading a book!! love it.
just wrestling with whether i can take codeine at this point in pg....i'm sure you'll all come back with the answer at a more friendly time of day but paracetamol isn't touching it so it's a put up or shut up situation i think
heckle black def the way forward, it's a colour you can't fall out of love with and yay to accessories, buggy snuggles are pricey but cute....

just got the answer i needed from our lovely out of hours gp service..it's a yes to codeine! fingers crossed.

gosh i wish i had something more exciting to write about.... i'll have a think
