My first thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Sugarkane · 27/09/2009 23:50

Well ive given up on this baby coming yet, had abit of blood few days ago, constant back and period pains and the usual really heavey feeling but still nothing. Although when I think about it I felt like this for about 2 weeks before DD born.

Great to hear all these birth stories etc. Good luck for the inductions that are coming up (incase I cant get online for few days).

HappyTangerine · 28/09/2009 01:59

Wish I could tell the difference between my waters breaking and my pelvic floor just going . It started earlier this evening. No pop or big gush or anything but fairly constant small trickle. Put a pad on and it wasn't soaked after an hour but it didn't smell of wee either. Have had strong, painful periody type pains coupled with weird intermittent pressure between my legs and a v wriggly baby all night. Am currently alternating between birthing ball and leaning on all fours over beanbag, neither of which is helping my v swollen ankles.

How am I supposed to tell if/when I have a contraction? I wish there was a button you could press that shows you what it feels like. Have 10am appointment with midwife so all questions for her. Yawn. At this rate, I'm going to drop off to sleep over the beanbag.

wibblydibs · 28/09/2009 03:54

Can't sleep as am so nervous - but have just read your lovely birth story LMB and it's reminded me about the little bundle you're handed after all that hard work and pain - thank you!

Sorry HC but both times my waters have gone it's been with a pretty impressive pop and gush - so I can't help you with leaking. In my experience contractions come in waves with a break in between - so they're different from the aches that come before labour. Hope that makes sense

All the best everyone and I'll be in touch in the next few days...

jules888 · 28/09/2009 07:44

Thanks for the lovely birth story LMB.

After some advice ladies, I live in Greece and the nearest clinic is one and a quarter hours away, up and down many and various twisty mountains. DH doesn't drive (5 years of nagging haven't worked yet!) but parents arrived yesterday (staying at their own house 10 mins away).

My Mum is insisting that I should go to the clinic at the first sign of a twinge (well at least contractions 10 mins apart) and for DS1 aged 4 to go off to her house.

I am reluctant as with DS1 I definately went into the birth centre to early in the UK and after 12 hours of not very much they had to send me to the hospital who insisted on Pitocin as they said the baby was in distress, which meant suddenly I went from mild pain to feeling like I was being ripped apart, some 6 hours later and an epidural had an episotomy and ventouse delivery not what I had been hoping for at all.

I want to wait till the contractions are 5 mins apart for a least an hour and then go, but Mum is trying to frighten me with what if it comes quickly, up the mountain in the dark etc etc, I am trying to laugh it off (surely they're be a shepherd around?) but finding it increasingly more difficult by the minute.

It doesn't help that the staff speak only Greek and are very keen on quick Pitocin induced deliverys, though DH will be with me at least (we had to beg and plead to get permission from the Dr).

Due date BTW is 8/10/09 and there are no ambulances or Drs except at the clinic who will deal with pregnancy!

Am I panicking unreasonably? Any suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation.

rubyslippers · 28/09/2009 08:29

Lovley story LMB - hope you are enjoying your babymoon

jules - would you have to drive to the clinic? If so, you WON'T be able to drive in established labour with contractions coming every 5 mins. TBH, i would be off to the clinic sooner rather than later ... also your second labour may be quicker so i wouldn't take a chance

KM - i would try the bio oil - it can;t stop the stretch marks but it is very soothing and stops the itching and helps them fade more quickly

so, who is due today? Wibbly & Sammy i think

hope everyone else is ok - i have 6 days to EDD and nothing doing (well contractions but not building to anything)and to top it off i have a stinking cold so feel rubbish ... grrrr

littlepea72 · 28/09/2009 08:42

Jules dont take any chances. Anything can happen, car breaking down etc, plus as said, its your 2nd & it will happen quicker. Better to be there and safe. If you are driving then you have no chance. Ive seen my friend go from 5 minutes apart to having the baby 20 minutes later....

twinklegreen · 28/09/2009 09:00

Well I'm 'officially' due today (although 40+4 by my dates) Very fed up now, Had a show last Thursday and things were looking promising now everything seems to have died down .

I'm meant to be having acupuncture induction this morning but my children's pre-school announced on Friday that they would be closed today for a training day. So I'm now desperately trying to find someone to look after the children so that I can go It's not looking promising...

Sorry for the moan everyone

HT Hope things are starting for you, let us know

wibblydibs good luck!

jules888 · 28/09/2009 09:13

I won't be drivimg it will be my Mum or Dad probably, what is considered 'sooner rather than later'?

Every 10 mins, twinklegreen hope you find someone to have the kids!

smallone · 28/09/2009 09:35

Morning all!

Great to hear your Birth Story LMB. Its great to hear of positive, stitch free delivery!

Nothing happening here either, tho I have I've still got 2 weeks to go so I'm not too impatient yet. I did spend yesterday cleaning the grouting in the bathroom tho so maybe thats a "sign".

jules such a hard call. I wouldn't want to go at the first twinge either, its all too common for contractions to start and stop in very early labour. You could end up going backwards and forwards for days! Maybe you could go once you're sure that contractions are getting stronger and closer together? Then by the time you've been picked up and transfered DS to your p's house, and made the journey to the clinic you should be getting there? Then I guess you'll just have to be the "crazy english woman" who refuses all intervention?

OP posts:
littlepea72 · 28/09/2009 09:52

Jules could you ask your MW what she thinks, maybe she could tell you how far apart your contractions should be before leaving for the hospital. I can so understand not wanting to get there to soon. Im seeing those mountain roads in my head....scary! LOL....

jules888 · 28/09/2009 09:53

Yes smallone I am already considered the crazy english woman!!

Spose it'll happen as it is meant to ...

HumphreysCorner · 28/09/2009 11:36

Wish I could tell the difference too with waters as I had a definite gush again last night and the pad did not smell of wee and had all the gungy stuff when I wiped but was awake again all night waiting for action but nothing happened. Due date tomorrow.

Good luck for anyone having twinges today.

Laters!

HappyTangerine · 28/09/2009 12:17

Good luck to everyone with twinges and signs, its so frustrating when its stop/start isn't it?

Back from midwife appt. Doesn't seem to have been my waters but I have to monitor over the next few hours. Pains died down enough for me to get 4 hrs sleep last night and started up again at 8am. Have awful diarrheoa, bit scared to leave the house again as I feel need to be near toilet all the time. Midwife had a feel around and said the baby's head is fully engaged now. I'm booked in for a sweep on Friday although it she suspects I won't need it. It looks like the hospital appt on Wednesday is for me to be set an induction date for 10 days time. No way am I going 10 days over, I'll go nuts.

Twinklegreen-hope you find someone to watch the children so that you can make your acupuncture appointment,I've heard great things about acupuncture for triggering labour.

jules such a tough call to make-I'm familiar with those Greek mountain roads and they are scary enough when not in labour! I'd also go with ask your midwife.

Ohmani-If I don't get back on today, good luck with your c-section, looking forward to the birth announcement!

Had stuff planned today but am binning the list in favour of sleep-the baby is alternating between kicking wildly and pushing down hard, its exhausting. Trying to get my head round the fact that I could be a mum by the end of the week...I know I've had 40 weeks to get used to the idea but now it's almost here its a bit surreal!

peachespaige · 28/09/2009 12:18

Hi all

lmb Congratulations, what a lovely name!

ht My waters gushed with ds1 and didnt go until I pushing with ds2. But it sounds like its your waters to me.

jules with ds1 from my waters going at the start of contractions to him beling born was 20 hours. Wit ds2 I was having mild contractions at home for 3ish hours and could totally manage until suddenly they came so fast and unexpected that I made it to the hospital and he was born 15 mins later! I nearly had him in the car park so dont leave it too long! .

Im 36 weeks today, hate being the last .

Good luck everyone.

peachespaige · 28/09/2009 12:21

x-posted ht I think youll have a baby by tommorrow evening!

Treats · 28/09/2009 13:51

Hi everyone

Sorry - no time to catch up with everyone else's news. Just time to say that I had lots of leakage last night of the watery variety. Definitely wasn't peeing but had lots of gushes. Called the midwife this morning who told me to go to hospital to be checked. They confirmed that not only had my waters broken, but that I'd also had my show. Am at home again now, but if contractions haven't started by 3am tomorrow (24 hours from waters breaking) then I have to go back in to be induced.

Have bought a very large pineapple and will be making a hot curry for dinner tonight!! DH also has his instructions...... The MW at the hospital told me that the hormone in semen is the same as what's in the injection to get me started, and it's more fun to have sex!!! .

Feeling nervous about the next 24 hours but trying to take each step as it comes. My sister is due round any minute to while away the time before DH gets home from work and will spend the afternoon making the last minute arrangements and willing the contractions to start so that I don't have to be induced.

Send me your labour vibes everyone and wish me luck. Baby Treats will be here in the next few days.........

Sorry if I've missed anyone else's important news.

twinklegreen · 28/09/2009 14:42

Good luck treats fingers crossed that you start labour naturally.

Well couldn't get a babysitter so had to miss acupuncture, grrr Will go on Friday if I STILL haven't given birth.

So just my sweep tomorrow to look forward to, not holding out much hope as I had three sweeps with DS and still ended up being induced.

littlepea72 · 28/09/2009 14:46

Im seeing your hubby Treats, walking into the delivery room, like John Wayne LOL good luck with the starting of your contractions, and all the best with the birth , look forward to hearing how it goes xxxx

smallone · 28/09/2009 15:20

Oh good luck treats I hope something starts for you! Do you really have to go in at 3am? Or can you wait til morning? I'd be getting one last sleep in if I was you

OP posts:
HappyTangerine · 28/09/2009 15:21

Sending you lots of luck and labour vibes Treats, looking forward to hearing your news in the next few days!

sammysam · 28/09/2009 17:22

Good luck treats......and everyone else!

I am 40 +1! Saw the mw today-all ok. Just a waiting game. Decided against a sweep-they don't ever seem to work so I figure whats the point?!
Feel very sick today and quite tired.
Had my last appt. today so am free for the baby to come Although it was with the orthodontist and my mouth is really hurting now

Brain like a sieve and can't remember what I was going to say! So will just send good birth vibes out to everyone

Ohmani · 28/09/2009 17:27

Wow, this thread moves fast

Great birth story LMB HT and Treats sounds like it won't be long

My section is booked for 5.30pm tomorrow (middle eastern time so 1.30pm UK time) and while it's taken me some time to get my head round it I am getting very excited about meeting my little fella.

However I have been having quite a bit of blood streaked discharge through the day so may not make it until that time!

Good luck to everyone - sending lots of good labouring and birthing vibes.

Ohmani

Flamesparrow · 28/09/2009 17:31

Hopefully going to catch up a bit later, but quick update from here

Been at funeral today. Aching and random twinges most of the day, now feeling decidedly uncomfortable... taken painkillers and going to get in bath. Thinking if it carries on after that, then I should probably think about blowing up a pool and things...

littlepea72 · 28/09/2009 18:08

Ohmani, all the best for tomorrow, very excited for you, enjoy your little man xxxx

hackneybird · 28/09/2009 18:35

Ooooh...looks like there will be some more birth annoucements coming over the next few days!

Good luck to Treats, HT and Flame. Hope the suspense is ended fo you soon HC.

I had lunch today (loving mat leave) with a friend who told me that she finished work on the Friday and gave birth on the Monday. Good lord. I'm still quite happy for this one to stay put for the time being, I'm supposed to be going for one last hair cut next Weds! Not due til 15th.

xx
