Hello lovelies,

Hope you're all getting to enjoy the sunshine! Can't believe it's Friday AGAIN!
I'm feeling rather good as am finally ahead of schedule with work, have a deadline next Friday but it almost feels like a nice challenge now rather than me dreading it. This is mostly thanks to pulling an all-nighter (well, with a 3 hour nap between midnight and 3AM) the other day, and generally just working like a little monkey.
Must say having the MIL around helps in that respect as I'm far less likely to think of distractions and just immerse myself in work to have a break if you see what I mean.

Trikken Happy belated Birthday!

Sleepless How rotten to have to have a cold to contend with along with everything else! Hope you feel better soon.

Skorpion I've had the same funny fluttery feelings, sometimes they feel really weird, don't they? I read that the babies sometimes kind of have a shiver, something to do with neurological development, and that at times, they'll have been sucking their thumb and lost it - and will furiously move their head from side to side til they find it again. I also like your baked goodies for Xmas idea, might do the same this year, I love baking!

Lemon "relaxing trip to Ikea at the weekend"... good luck with that one! (To be fair, we find going on Saturday night really pleasant as there's never anyone there!)

Pavlov Oh yes, me too with the piles. And the shredding pile just grows and grows... but in my de-cluttering frenzy I've finally managed to get all the paperwork in order too.

Scarlotti That's funny, I always think of hamsters/guinea pigs when I empty the shredder, but wasn't sure if they'd enjoy it. Next time, I'll offer it to the guineas next door!

Erika at the man on the bus! What is wrong with people? Why is it that people can't just pass each other without aggro?

Mumsiebumsie How far along are you now? I think quite a few of us found that the MS came back around 28 weeks, so maybe there's a surge of hormones around then or something?

Just wanted to ask re: the iron levels... are you all still taking antinatal vitamins? Just checked mine (Pregnacare) and they seem to have 100%+ of your RDA of iron. I suppose as we're sharing our RDA with the babies, that might not be enough!

Also getting quite painful pokes and kicks. The other day I nearly dropped my mug of tea as I leant forward to sip it the Bean showed his heel or something right up underneath my ribs so hard and fast that I yelped (and got many concerned looks from people nearby... they must have thought I was about to pop!)

at all of you going to your antinatal classes, mine aren't until the end of October. I think that's way too late concidering the last class is about 5 days before the due date... think I'll be lucky to make it! (Oh well, Ina May will be my new best friend then...)

Right. Back to work. Not that MIL thinks I work anyway, as I'm sitting at home in front of a computer. Every day she asks me what I'll be doing today, and every day I tell her that I've got to work (like everyone else...) but she doesn't get it. I'm getting really fed up. In the space of a few days she's managed to have a lecture on working mums ruining their children by "farming them out" to Child Minders (think I already had a moan about that here...) and more infuriatingly, she heard me on the phone to my dad, asked DH what language I was speaking, and then proceeded to sigh and go "oh, your poor little lad". DH was like and she goes on "poor little thing is going to be completely confused, having to listen to all these foreign languages all his life".

Don't know if any of you remember, but a few weeks ago I was having a wobble trying to work out what language to speak to him as it's so important to me that he grows up bilingual. I was so angry I nearly walked out of the house. I've actually got a jaw ache from constantly clenching my teeth!

Anyway.

It's such a gorgeous day, can't possibly be grumpy!

skorpion · 11/09/2009 11:42

broodzilla don't let her get to you! You'll do a brilliant job and she'll be gone soon. Honestly, what is it with some people?!?

That's a really nice explanation for the bubbly feeling - thank you.

Only three hours left in the office and I'm out of here into the sunshine! Well, into Primark, but you get my point

beepbeep · 11/09/2009 11:46

Skorpion - I had those 'shivery' movements with DS and would worry that he was having small fits or something!! when he was born i never noticed it, but he's a huge thumb sucker, s could well have been trying o find it - on our last scan he sucked he thumb the whole time -still does.

Broodzilla - have stopped taking pregnacare as they make me want to vomit!! I'm surprised my iron is low mind as we eat a lot of green veg, sinach etc. but apparently having babies close tgether can deplete iron stores (this is my 3rd in 3years so pb the cause). Good luck with coping with your MIL!

Koumak · 11/09/2009 11:59

Broodzilla I don?t know how you do it! My MIL doesn?t want to visit anymore as I AM so difficult! Suits me fine....

Still taking my Pregnacare but do not remember to do my pelvic floor exercises ever!

Koumak · 11/09/2009 12:29

Also, does anybody has this? Every time I sneeze I feel like I need to vomit. Not nice.

Koumak · 11/09/2009 12:30

or should that be "have"

lemontop · 11/09/2009 12:38

I cleaned my bathroom from top to bottom before going to work this morning. I wonder if this may be what is referred to as nesting! DH is out tonight and I'm quite excited about organising my clothes and cupboards. I think I win the award for saddo of the day!

Trikken · 11/09/2009 13:00

koumak i dont have that, but i do have to clench every time i sneeze for fear of wetting myself. either is not good really.

tigger32 · 11/09/2009 13:02

Hello all,

pav thanks for all the info on iron, I was aware of some of it but other bits.
Got another blood test next week to see if my level has gone up!

A woman at toddlers had her baby on Wednesday and brought him in today, he is so tiny even though he weighed 8 lb!

Belated happy birthday Trikken

Can't remember who said about the baby's movements being painful now, I am definitely getting those. I feel like there is no room left for the baby any more as I can feel the shape of him/her really easily now!

broodzilla I don't envy you on the mil front I find it really stressful when mine comes to visit, luckily they only stay for 3 or 4 nights once a year now!

skorpion · 11/09/2009 13:09

lemontop - don't worry, one of the things I'm looking forward to once I'm on mat leave is sorting out the cds - we are notorious for putting them in wrong boxes, especially the ones kept in the cars. Beat that!

The flutters is pretty much all she's doing today. I thought that perhaps she was leaning on a nerve and giving her mother twitches. Don't babies shake their heads and shiver when they've just done a wee? I think I prefer the thumb sucking scenario.

koumak, broodzilla - I found a hilarious thread on Relationships, I think. The poster was asking for suggestions of what to put in her drawers, as her MIL was coming to stay and she was notorious for going through her things There were some very interesting things mentioned.

Ninjacat · 11/09/2009 13:34

Just a quick post from me. I caught dps stomach bug. Still feel dreadful but have made it to the sofa. Can't face eating yet.
OMG having a baby jumping about in your stomach when you have D&V is the worst feeling ever!!!

southernbelle77 · 11/09/2009 13:54

Oh no Ninja that isn't nice. I really hope you feel better soon.

lemontop I've been a 'saddo' all week! I have sorted out all the toys in the living room and put them all away (all the ones I used for cm'ing, some of dd's things still here!) in the garage to keep them out the way. I have moved the living room around a bit to make it look bigger and more like a home than a nursery! I have also gutted the spare room of all the toys, crafts, clothes and junk ready to make it into a nursery. I then cleaned out the bottom of the wardrobe in our room yesterday (taking 5 bags of rubbish to the tip!) as well as sweeping and vacuuming on a daily basis (which isn't great but it feels like a 'craving' in that I HAVE to do it - had it with dd too! How weird am I!)

I'm having funny movements too. I was trying to describe it to dh last night and the only way I could was to say that it was sort of like the baby was washing up in there - although that still doesn't make any sense!!

Haven't done much today. Spent just under two hours doing my food shop online! It's the first time I've done it and have been assured that it will get quicker! Still, had to be done as there is no way I can walk around the shops. Walking anywhere is just agony now Seriously wondering how on earth I am going to get dd to school in a few weeks time. I'm already driving there, but I can hardly get my legs in the car without it causing absolute and total pain. Not seeing consultant again for 4 weeks by which time god knows what state I'll be in! Anyway, also had a sleep this morning which was lovely!

Koumak · 11/09/2009 17:55

thanks skorpion i will have look. i could do with a laugh.

and also i gave up on dvd and cd boxes long time ago. I got one of these things from amazon and dont have to face sorting cds or ds dvds!

ErikaMaye · 11/09/2009 18:28

Hey everyone.

Sorry I haven't read through everything, have just got back from the hospital. Saw my midwife at antenatal, and she was worried that baby hadn't been moving enough - didn't feel ten movements yesterday, but was hoping that it was just that I hadn't been very attentive. But hadn't felt any today either, so she sent me up to the Labour ward. Plugged me into a monitor for an hour, because my pulse was off as well, and then was sent home told everything was okay. Now exauhsted but relieved. Didn't manage to get to talk to Jon before I had to go in because he's on the coach, and still haven't heard from him which has upset me too - went in at 3pm. I'll read through everything later, just needed to get all my worry out so I could try and rest.

Hope you're well.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 11/09/2009 18:54

erica how stressful for you! Baby is ok? Was he just feeling a bit lazy? Make sure you rest and hope you get hold of your dp soon x

Can you tell me how pregnant I am please love? I cannot remember if I am 30 or 31 weeks. Due just after you on 18th. My brain is fried completely in particular when it comes to anything numerical. It is in fact becoming very very embarrassing

ErikaMaye · 11/09/2009 20:08

Pavlov they don't know why... I'm wondering if it might be the iron tablets, actually, as that's the only change I've made to my routine in the past two days. Will keep an eye on things and see how we go. I know that I should be relieved that everything is okay, but am now panicking that something will go seriously wrong. Finally heard from DP, he didn't get my voicemail until just now, as the signal is that bad, which adds to my panic. All the way to the hospital, I was thinking, "Oh Christ, what if they say I have to have him today? No ones here!" Still freaking out now - am terribble. If you're due on the 18th then you'll be 31 weeks on Wednesday I just have way too much time on my hands!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 11/09/2009 20:17

Broodzilla I get the same reactions to my 'work'. I'm expected to just stop when certain relatives come round - they don't quite get it.

I can't stop eating Terry's Chocolate Orange. Anyone else? Weird because for the first 4 months the thought of chocolate was just yuck city. I still have one Easter Egg left...

Erika poor you, how frightening.

Some of you are soooo organized. Having said that, after watching How Clean Is Your House last night DH and I both headed for the kitchen to soak our kitchen sponge. He beat me to it. It was funny because I said 'I was going to do that!'

scarlotti · 11/09/2009 21:01

erika hope you're ok now, it's very stressful when things like that happen. Try and stay calm - movement does drop at this stage, I've had days when I've wondered if I've felt him move at all. The lack of space and the fact they now go more into a routine (i.e. moving and sleeping at similar times of day) can worry you easily if you've missed one block of movement.
Rest assured that had they had any concerns about you or Bryn's development, they wouldn't have let you out of hospital.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Am tired today, DS was home so it was a full on day and DH was later home than normal so we didn't eat until later. Made me realise just how much easier I've been taking it the last few days - so unlike me but I'm getting used to it

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 11/09/2009 22:29

Thanks erica I am pleased I got it right, I saw the midwife on wednesday and measured 2cm smaller than weeks, she said this was fine as 2cm is the leeway allowed, then today I panicked, what if it was 31 weeks especially as they are keeping an eye on growth as DD started to slow down around this time, and stopped completely by 37 weeks.

DH has said not to worry, midwife said it is fine as I had a scan 2 weeks ago and baby was fine size wise, she said I am small and am carrying small and that will account for the 2cms, but still I do worry. If it had been 3cm I would have really panicked. I mean, the baby would have to have actually shrunk to account for that much slow down right? .

I am also starting to get a bit upset at how many people keep commenting on how small I am. In particular managers at work 'god your small, you really do carry well don't you?' 'NO you ignorance f**ks, I have been vomitting constantly for months, have you not fucking noticed, or paid any attention to the length of time I have been absence to due effing vomitting' .

But others too 'oh you are small, you sure your dates are right?' 'are you eating properly' 'you are tiny compared to xx' (due a week later at work who is not enormous, but compared to me is).

I don't even look pregnant enough for someone to give up their seat on a crowded bus, the one time last week I went to work by bus. Won't be doing that again.

Fruitpastels · 11/09/2009 22:54

Pav don't worry yourself as I'm sure the midwife would have sent you for another scan if she was concerned. I am measuring 2cms smaller than my weeks as well. I was carrying a little bigger at the start of the 2nd trimester but my food intake was much greater as I had loads of room! The midwife isn't concerned as I'm small build, she may send me for a scan on my next check just as a precaution. Unlike you, I haven't been sick through out this pregnancy, but the first 16 weeks were pretty bad and I lost loads of weight, which I couldn't afford to do. I've had mixed comments from friends, relatives and strangers, some think I'm big and others think I'm tiny. I'm not going to give birth to a big baby with my genes. I carried the same with DS and he turned out a healthy 7lbs 5 ozs, not bad considering I'm 5.1 and normally a size 8. He must have been very cramped, hence he was a little early!

Erica sorry to hear about your scare. Glad to hear you're home safe and well . Our babies are running out of space quickly so movements will slow down and we can easily miss them if we're busy or concentrating on something.

ErikaMaye · 11/09/2009 23:35

Thanks everyone I was hoping that it was just him running out of space, but had probably only felt maybe two since yesterday morning... I didn't want to cause a fuss, but when I saw my midwife earlier, I thought I'd just get her to check it all over...

Is anyone else boiling tonight??? I'm massively overheating. And I feel sick. Delightful. What a brilliant day for DP to bugger off to Cornwall...

Becky am still hooked on my Caramel KitKat Chunkys Couldn't face chocolate until about week 20, am so glad that particular pregnancy symptom has eased off at least!!

Pavlov I'm sure they'd have said something if they were worried. Especially because they are keeping a closer eye on you. I'm getting annoyed with people telling me I'm small too, happened at my antenatal class earlier and I was very close to throwing the foam placenta she had been edging away from at her head.

Scarlotti hope you're enjoying your relative peace and quiet - got a feeling it will be detroyed in a few weeks time

Seriously, thank you. You are such a lovely bunch! x

Pavlov and erika my bump appears to have been getting smaller over the last week or two, and I've been measuring fine up until now so please try not to worry. I think when we have something (spd, history of small babies, mobility problems) it's easy to attribute any difference to that.
I read yesterday that we're supposed to put on about 1lb a week in the 3rd trimester, yet I am either staying the same or losing a little weight. I gained more than needed at the beginning and I just think my body is now readjusting.
We are checked by professionals and they would get us into hospital if they thought there were issues.
Maybe nature just keeps us on our toes so we're aware of our babies!

Kyte bag packed already?! Well done...

[scarlotti scurries off to find the bag list and a bag..]

katster37 · 12/09/2009 09:10

Hi everyone
Erika sorry to hear about your scare. WHat did the hospital say to you? I hope you have heard form DH.

Pav How rude that no-one stood up on the bus. It drives me mad. I had to stand up on a tube, two trains, then another tube the other day, for an hour and a half. Not one person offered me a seat, and I look like I have eaten a gigantic beach ball, it is very obvious. People actually saw me, clocked they should probably stand up and then feigned sleep.... How rude. A lovely Australian lady who was stood next to me actually said, in a v loud voice, 'If a policeman got on in Aus and a pregnant lady was stood up, everyone in the carriage would be fined $50. Shame it's not the same over here.' STill no seat though... That's London for you!

Am so so so glad it's Saturday. Got MW visit at 12 today. There were traces of protein in urine at the last one and he was measuring a cm small so I hope all is normal today. Not that 1cm (or 2cms) is anything to worry about, but I was worried he might have got further behind. We will see.
