Have you tried using the TENS machine Katz? I'm sure that link Uki provided listed the TENS as a way of kick-starting labour. I can't see how myself, but what the hell! I'm thinking about using mine today (I got the Femme TENS as well) on my backache as I'm now 37 weeks.

Tessiebear · 03/06/2005 09:25

Morning all - hope you are all ok.
Megi - my show last time was bloodstained, but i was reassured that it was ok as it was blood mixed with mucus (if that makes any sense)
I spent most of last night awake with period / cramp like pains - all gone today - hope it was nothing as i have 3 weeks left and LOADS to do (including a wedding to attend!)

Tessiebear · 03/06/2005 09:27

btw - my advice to anyone trying to kick start labour - would be dont bother - it is going to come when it is going to come. Spend the time getting loads of rest - this is the one prepairation you will really need for when it does happen

megi · 03/06/2005 09:52

Tessie - How long did your show last? With dd - it happened just once but this time has been on and off for 2 weeks!

Tessiebear · 03/06/2005 10:04

My show happened at 8pm and i started having contractions straight away - had DS2 by 4.30 the next morning
With DS1 my show also happened at the start of labour.

Tessiebear · 03/06/2005 10:05

It obviously all came at once - and we are talking a BIG show - no mistaking it!!!!

Cooperoo · 03/06/2005 11:28

Morning
Megi - My show lasted a day before contractions started. They actually thought it was my waters leaking out but after examination it was deemed to be just a show. That examination certainly got things moving though. Contractions every 5 mins about 10mins after I left the hospital and dd was born 12 hours later.

JonahB · 03/06/2005 11:33

Morning all,

Lynny, I love home-baked cakes so much. This was a Nigella one ? a clementine cake and just so easy. I put half in the freezer and stuffed the other half down myself. DH was allowed a small slice . It?s only so I can show off to all my friends who visit, that not only can a produce a child, I can, suddenly out of thin air, whisk up a cake for my visitors .

Coop, muffins?mmmm?..I got my chocolate fix straight from M&S last night. My DH works for them, so I sent him a text saying that if a tub of their chocolate crispy bites should happen to fall into his basket at the end of the day??.

Mrs Wed, I?m sure that the 2nd time round, you don?t have the same panicking urges to have everything ready and waiting, as you know what to expect and won?t be running round at the last minute like a headless chicken, swiftly followed by a panicking DH.

Trib, thanks for the updated stats. Glad you have ?exceeded expectations?. Sounds like they are empethatic to your pgy, which is a good sign. Last day, hurrah!!!!!!

JonahB · 03/06/2005 11:34

Tessie, you've dashed my hopes . And there I was, about to persuade DH to try a third time

bubbaloo · 03/06/2005 12:55

afternoon all,

havent had time to catch up properly with everyone as i was busy entaining my folks yesterday!
megi-thought the next time we'd hear from you would have been a birth announcement-hopefully not long now.
katz-still hanging on then?!!
lynny-its lovely to hear from you again.glad your'e resting-hopefully it wont be too long for you also.
saw the midwife this morning who now tells me the baby isnt engaged.she also said that didnt mean anything as you can go into labour without the head being engaged at all!!
she also said that i wouldnt be able to have an epidural untill im 4cms dilated which im not too keen on-i was hoping to have one as soon as i entered the hospital.

im such a wimp!!!

charleypops · 03/06/2005 13:47

Bimey! Note to self - try harder to keep up and post everyday...

Congratulations to Myermay!

Well the cot assembly went unbelievably smoothly yesterday, it was almost fun - me instructing, dp doing, we were working as one - a well oiled team ....until we got the very last bit where we had to attach the foot pedal for the drop side. Only at that point did I realise the mattress base had been put on upside down. Of course we had to take the WHOLE thing apart and start from scratch. Oops. My goodness, the air was blue!! At least it's up now. Better get some bedding for now it I suppose...

Coop - just re-read my last post and realised it insinuated you have piles. Sorry!! I know you don't I was being general . I was so deflated for you to read about your hospital visit on Wednesday. Wonder why they said you'd be able to have a bath in the first place? What a shame you can't trust the safety of the private clinics. Could you possibly hire a midwife to come in with you - she might be able to at least bring gas and air?? How about one of the mws at the military clinic - couldn't one of them come with you? Btw - surely if you needed stitches, they would inject a local anaesthetic?? Did you find out about the Cypriot nationality thing Karen01 mentioned - gosh, that would cause a bit of rumpus in a few years if you have a boy!

Hi Bubb - wow, your gran was 104!! That's amazing! Imagine how old you're going to get to be

Pink- glad you're sicky day didn't develop futher.

Tea - from your post on Wednesday, it sounds like things are moving - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you

Trib - Yay for your review - I should think you got a good one too in your condition! My, you do have a progressive hospital - allowing the partner to get in the pool with you - don't think I'd let mine in though - he needs to be buzzing around bringing me things like sarnies, biccies and orange juice and spraying my face with freezing water To answer your q - I didn't give the actual pregnancy a single thought - I just knew I wanted to raise a child (or two) and thought about that. I have been through some pretty hideous events in my lifetime and so know they all pass and become a memory, no matter how disgusting they are at the time

Lynny - Great to hear from you - but not so great to hear about your poor painful bladder and it's undetected/untreated infection. You really do have to supervise your own care don't you - for instance I have to chase the results of the StrepB test I had like 3 weeks ago, where I was supposed to get them the day after Hope you and Lynny can be properly reunited soon - try to fight that depression - life is great - you have the fab Lee, the gorgeous Leonna and you will soon have an equisite little baby in your arms - whilst all your aches and pains will be slipping away

Katz - glad you've had a nice mw appt! Good luck with your self-inducements!

Hi Tessie - oo, wonder if you'll have to miss your wedding after all...?

Jonah - you naughty girl - you've just reminded me of M&S crispy bites. Haven't had any for aeons, but oh my, are they moreisth hmm... Hope I don't pass an M&S today...

charleypops · 03/06/2005 13:49

Oo a couple of qs;

Can anyone here tell me who poisoned Sadie's dog in Emmerdale? I missed that episode and it' been bothering me.

I've been practising nappy folding with my muslin squares (for a newborn boy) and wondered if anyone had any preferences...?

I'm off to see my lovely doc in a couple of hours for my 38 week check. hope everything's ok because he's off on his hols this evening and won't be back until a day after my due date. I'm desperately hoping I can persuade him to perscribe me milk-enhancing medication to keep on standby.

welshmum · 03/06/2005 13:52

Trib - Don't know if I posted ds's name on here - he didn't come out green so is called Osian (Osh-an)- just for when you're next updating the stats.
Feels really wierd to read through from the other side of things - am still thinking of you all loads - especially as the last few weeks are so hard physically. Try to put your feet up as much as possible is my advice - and eat loads of chocolate, I feel guilty eating it now even though the midwife says 3 meals and snacks are necessary for bfing mums. Don't think she means bars of Green and Black's sadly.
Everything going well here with us - he's just so damned gorgeous - am totally smitten

tribpot · 03/06/2005 14:36

Welshie, I'd read on your birth announcement thread that Osian was likely but didn't want to change it from Shrek on the stats page until you were sure Does he have a middle name? And was he exactly 4kg at birth? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Also, I think Green & Blacks choc is excellent, good source of iron for the breastfeeding mum.

Best of luck with your doc appointment Charley!

Just popping in to see how things are going.

Mrs Wednesday - nope not off to Tori, decided against it in the end. Don't think going on the train for hours and staying in london would have been a great idea I feel awful now. Also worried after I paid for ticket he'd probably turn up. My Dad says he'll baby sit when she is next on tour. Don't know when that will be

Is teabelly off having her baby now?? Who's next anyway?

mogwai · 03/06/2005 17:36

yey - baby's head is engaged. He/She has now discovered there's much more room to stretch legs and I have feet under my ribs.

Well I say it's engaged, have lost all faith in midwives over the last week. First mine didn't turn up for the antenatal clinic (left all us pregnant ladies waiting until the hospital could send someone else) last thursday. The gP saw me instead and I had high BP and protein, so I got carted off to hospital. They were sending someone out to check me again on tuesday but she didn't show up either (different midwife). One came out the next day, unexpectedly (I was cleaning the George Foreman grill so the kitchen smelt awful - the shame), she didn't even know my name!

She actually said "what's your name love?" as she wrote in my notes (duh - it's on the front). So it could well be a bottom engaged in my pelvis as far as I'm concerned.....anyone else had similar rubbish treatment??

bubbaloo · 03/06/2005 18:56

charley-LOL at the cot assembling.our cot was actually very easy to puut together but the changing unit was an absolute joke-it must have taken all afternoon and i think we were on the verge of divorce by the time it was done.
yes my great nan was 104 and my great aunt is still around at 102 but my nan was only in her 70's when we lost her so who knows?!

welshie-thats a really lovely name you've your ds and so unsual.much better than shrek.

lynny-fingers crossed for you.the 9th will stick in my mind-its my due date.enjoy yourself with leona.

hi pink!

mogwai-good news about the baby being engaged but from what i was told today by my midwife,it doesnt make much difference.i think thats really awful the midwife not knowing your name.mines lovely but very hard to understand and i had to laugh when she put my date of birth down as 1923 instead of 1973.

well i wonder who's next and whether lua has had her new arrival yet.
i've had a very bad tummy upset tonight and im getting quite alot of pains very similar to period pains so i dont know if tat means anything.dh has just gone out to snooker,so i've been winding him up that he might get "the call" from me later on-ha ha!!

Hi All

Sorry to hear of JONAH's loss, not a great time to deal with all that, Take care

Coop really sorry you feel so bad, but on the up side it is your second so at least you know what to expect yourself and should have a short labour, I'm sure when your beautiful baby bundle is delivered you won't care where it was, it will also make a great birth story to tell the child...

I might be slightly in the same situation as i am booked into the comfortable and friendly birth centre, but with blood pressure still going up (friday) they have me booked in for day stay again and i'm thinking it is looking less and less likely i will have natural birth. The midwives all said they hope that baby comes on the weekend, but i have no signs yet. It's weird having no control or idea what is going to happen.

I'm so excited and nervous.
Bye for now

katzguk · 04/06/2005 07:06
