bubbaloo · 16/06/2005 11:04

morning all,

gweny-hope you enjoyed your birthday celebrations.we've also tried all sorts of things to bring labour on,but i think the babies are just too comfortable where they are.

coop-congratulations on holding on past yesterday.i've also started to panic about the baby not moving.i didnt feel him move yesterday untill about 3pm which was rather worrying, but then he made up for it and kept me awake all night.

charley-good luck at your appointment tomorrow.i dont think she'll do an internal-mine didn't.i've even put on my birth plan in big capital letters that i don't want any internals unless absolutely neccessary! i've got my 41 wk appointment at the hospital this afternoon so i'm hoping the same.

tea-hope your ds has a fab day tomorrow and finally gets to enjoy his blue dinosaur.

Cooperoo · 16/06/2005 11:07

Hi all
Pink - Hope you have had a call back now and have some news or something to make you feel better.
I believe Jonah went in to be induced on Wed unless I am getting in a right muddle.
Charley - No you don't have to let your m/w do an internal. No one did an internal on me until we thought my waters might have gone and that was at the hospital. In fact my community m/w never even saw me down below as I didn't have any stitches for her to check either.

Well I am feelng alot happier at the moment as I have finally had the confirmation that the uk midwives have been given permission to practice in Cyprus which means I will be delivered by a UK midwife and will have access to gas and air. I made lots of phone calls to try and find out and got fed up eventually so I went round to the med centre in person and got the thumbs up from my midwife. I can't tell you the relief. I have told the baby we are now ready for it and I have taken my raspberry leaf tea and I am spending the afternoon bouncing on my birth ball until DH gets home when I may even consider a bit of .
Hope you are all OK too.

tribpot · 16/06/2005 11:09

Pink, I think Jonah was being induced yesterday, so all being well she should have mini-Jonah already. Sorry to hear you are still waiting, I know my midwife said if they have too many people in being induced unexpectedly, there might be a delay in starting a scheduled induction cos they can't run too many at once. But you should be a priority given your waters have broken, harrumph.

Coop, dare one ask what the news on the clinic is today?

Lippy - I think I can just about comprehend your reasons for doing the hoovering, but it is only just

We had the MIL on the phone last night, apparently badgering dh about arranging something for her birthday next week! Sorry dear, not really a priority item at the mo! Actually dh is not doing very well right now so frankly anyone who wants anything out of us can naff off, I need him to be conserving his strength for what is to come. (I will forget I said that when I want help carrying boxes down the stairs, though).

Off to the mw in an hour to check on bump size, hoping he might have engaged at least by now.

tribpot · 16/06/2005 11:13

Coop - cross-posted. Hurrah and yippee for your news! I suggest you run up and down the stairs 100 times to get your bp up in the hopes of making them induce you before anyone has a chance to change their mind

This 'no unnecessary internals' thing I keep hearing about. Do midwives have a bit of a rep for wanting to do unnecessary internals? I figure it's hardly the most attractive sight in the world, let's face it.

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 11:17

Hi everyone

I have a child-free day today, just dropped dd off at her G'ma's. Excellent!

Pink, when I was in labour with dd I had to sit on the ward from 11am 'til about 6pm until I could go down to the delivery suite I was on a monitor and had the stupid TENS machine on too which was useless, no g&e, nothing!! Basically, they were full up! Felt like Mary 'no room at the inn', except I'm sure I swore a darn sight more than she did

Charley, I mean to say, I think we had to buy the ipod charger seperately, as with most of these gadgets, you don't get much for free
What do you mean by an internal? A check to see what your cervix is up to? Or a sweep? Either way, I'm sure you will have a choice. I don't think mw's get as anxious as mothers do when the due date comes and goes without any action!!

Mog, it's very cool that you were boogie-ing with Bono at full gestation. I would be scared the music was too loud for baby and chickened out. I danced and sang a lot when dd was in utero and she is very musical, always singing and picks up words to songs very easily. I'm sure it's not related, probably just something she picked up fromme anyway, but I like to think I had something to do with it

Lots of you are at your dates aren't you?

How you doing Coop? These last few days are a mystery even to those who have done it before aren't they? I keep feeling nauseous and thinking " oh no, this is it!" But, so far nothing. Not due till next week anyway.

Right, off to paint the window for an hour then I'll be back! By the way Charley, have you done all your DIY??

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 11:23

Can I just reiterate, I was not hoovering where the cleaner had already hoovered! I was hoovering the basement which she couldn't really do because it's so full of our junk

Ok, thanks!

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 11:25

g&a,not g&e, right, now I'm truly going...

bubbaloo · 16/06/2005 11:26

coop, thats brilliant news for you.you must be over the moon that after all that worry it's worked out in your favour!!

Cooperoo · 16/06/2005 11:30

Lippy - STOP NESTING!!!!!!! I am getting worn out just hearing what you are up to lol. Yes it is really odd even the second time round. I have had lots of 'is this it?' moments and wasn't expecting to having already had one baby lol.
Trib - I don't think m/w do unecessary internals at all. I just think we are all a bit paranoid about it. I know I am! I find them uncomfortable at the best of times and so like to be left alone really. I had two internals whilst in labour (3cm and 8 cm) and just one before to check waters through my whole pregnancy and aftercare. Sorry your DH is having a tough time at the mo. Hope he is able to rest up and conserve some strength. He will be so distracted when the time comes that hopefully his pains will all but go.
I do have a prob with the stairs thing sadly as we live in a bungalow .
My poor mum has rung three times this morning and I was out. She is in a right panic as she didn't know whether I would be at the clinic or the hospital and didn't like not knowing. She is finding it quite hard being so far away I think. I managed to reach her on her mobile and she was practically in tears poor love. I must make a conscious note to call her each morning till baby is here. Prob is we are out by 0900 every day and that is 0700 your time. I will wake her up if necessary. I should have done so today. It did cross my mind. Oh well.

Cooperoo · 16/06/2005 11:33

Thanks Bubb
Lippy - I don't believe you!!!!!

mogwai · 16/06/2005 12:02

hello all

Copperooo, I'm so pleased for you - have been following your story with interest. That's one clever kid, waiting till now.

Charleypops, I'm just outside Manchester, where they do the best fruity curry and chip barms imaginable! How about you??

I'm now 5 days off my due date. Husband been on nights all week, which has made me "fretful" as don't like being alone for too long at the moment...anyone feel the same?

Had another episode of "jippy tummy" last night so went round frantically nesting (I was cleaning the dust off the TV at 1am) before I went to bed. Still no signs. Did anyone have jippy tummy with their first baby? How long before labour? (of course, could just be all the nerves).

Off to meet a friend for lunch. She's 38 weeks and says she looks like she's swallowed a sofa. Will report back on whether it was a futon or a two seater.

charleypops · 16/06/2005 12:56

Coop - HURRAAHH! Wow! After all that! Well done for holding on this long. Blimey. What luck

Trib - Sorry to hear your dh is a bit under the weather at the moment. Hope he can get enough rest before the great event.

Mogwai - I've been really fancying chips and curry sauce since you mentioned them - had such a craving all morning - might send dp out for some.... I come from a port town near Hull so definitely know what a chip's supposed to taste like - but I've been living dahn saarf for a number of years now (Surrey for past 3) and fish and chips (and curry sauce) are just NOT the same . You mean that curry sauce with the raisins in don't you (still slightly luminous)? That's ok then - I remember that stuff now - never had it mesen because I didn't like raisins. I thought you meant some kind of southern nouveau version with jus d'apricot or summink Always go for the "plastic chicken thread" curry sauce personally. Hmmm..

Lippy - I meant the mw might want to check my cervix - there's no way I'd agree to a sweep at this stage. I'd hate to have any kind of induction if Pod's not quite ready. Sounds like I've nothing to worry about on that score though after what everyone's said I might send Dp out for a charger and some speakers later (while he's out getting me curry and chips) Feel a bit guilty though because he's spent quite a lot lately... There's only so much expenditure I feel comfortable trying to justify - like going on about how much I've managed tp save by buying dozens of cute as new dungies through Ebay for 99p. And terry/muslin squares... You're a far better woman than me painting your window - I've still got bits and pieces to do but just haven't felt like it past couple of days Our front windows and front door are lined up for painting though as soon as I'm up and about after Pod arrives. Big job actually - I have no choice but to strip them first - decades of paint have started to crack and will not last the winter. Was going to get this guy in that did a few of our neighbours' fronts last summer - but all their paintwork is bubbling and peeling already! Honestly - if you want a job doing properly.

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 13:21

I'm back

Hehe Coop, I'm a right pain in the arse I know Some bits of our house look like they have been through some kind of nuclear fallout, not just a few months of renovation! I will stop rabbiting on about nesting, even if I am secretly indulging It can be my dirty (if you'll pardon the pun ), little secret!!

By the way, brilliant news about your gas and air situation! What a pita to have to worry about on top of everything else that we could be worrying about.

Ooh chips n curry. Definitely a northern thing..? I remember at uni, those that had come slightly further down south, scoffing them like crazy. Never got into them though unfortunately Dp has a thing for them occasionally, having studied in Manchester for 6 years. But I'm sure they aren't quite the same 'calibre' (if that's the right word!), down here as they are up there!!

Bloody neighbours isn't on because of Ascot Nothing to watch while I have lunch.

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 13:24

Ah, having your cervix checked. Of course, now that I'm well waxed, I'll be offering my cervix up for examination to any medic who cares to inspect it Especially, my very own GP/dp, I'm sure he'll be only to pleased

charleypops · 16/06/2005 13:28

You cannot get a decent battered sausage for love nor money either down here!

charleypops · 16/06/2005 13:28

Ooh missus!!

Franniban · 16/06/2005 13:33

Hi Girls,
God I am such a dozy mare, been struggling to remember who said what when I've been posting and scrolling back up and down, just clicked the flip button! Durrr!
Coop, I'm delighted to hear your news, all that worry!
Trib, hope your dh feels better soon.
Lippy, how nice to have a child free day, don't do to much hoovering!
Hope Pink is ok, and is ensconsed in the delivery suite. Lippy, I had the same thing when I had ds, had to wait from 9 in the morning to 9 at night, boring boring boring! Am praying that I do not have to have repeat of that experience.
Well I went to get ds new sandles yesterday and the woman at Clarkes said he was a 5.5. I wasn't going to pay £25 for sandles, so tried on ones in Next and Mothercare, but even the 5s were way too big. Been to Asda and Matalan this morning but nothing there either. Will have to get his feet remeasured I think.
Off to the mid wife in an hour, and I really hope that she doesn't repeat what she said last week about the baby being too high! She is going to make me an appointment with the consultant I hope, I really don't want to be induced again, espcially if the critter is back to back.
By the way, has anyone had morning sickness back? Mines come back with a vengance, far worse that at the begining. Can this be right?

tribpot · 16/06/2005 13:34

Blimey, I never thought I'd hear the day that charley was too tired for DIY. It must be a sign!

I have been feeling relatively well today, which I knew would be a sign of something being up when I went to the mw. Sure enough, bp is raised, and they want me in at - get this - 9 o'clock on Sunday morning to check it again. Dh is most unimpressed as 9 a.m. is approx 5 hours before he would normally get up (I fear these days are soon to be behind him though!) I have graciously offered to go on my own. Oh, and she has refused to even guess at whether the baby's head's engaged yet, not even a 5/5 this time, just a vague verbal statement about his head being "down". (Gee thanks, I knew it wasn't up).

Mog, I'm sure your jippy tummy must be a sign as well. Remember when berolina was diagnosed with an attack of IBS .. like the day before Samuel was born! Surely it just wouldn't be right for us to get ill now for any reason other than to indicate labour was on the way.

iPod chargers - are you allowed to plug in any equipment in your labour rooms? We certainly aren't, everything has to be on battery. So spare iPod batteries might be in order, pre-charged at home.

Coop, your poor mum! Well, if she wants to hear from you each morning she'll have to deal with the time difference I guess. Could you text her, or is that too technical for her? My mum can't do texting (or in fact work her mobile phone at all) but my step-dad has been known to.

In true telecom geek fashion, dh and I have set up and shared a mobile group on Virgin Mobile so that he can send a group message when the baby arrives. I thought I was going to have to transfer all my contacts to his phone and then set up a group on it for him, so this was somewhat easier - you text commands to a V Mobile number and it creates the group for you on its own servers. Then you can share the group so other people can access it. Just in case anyone else wanted to do the same.

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 13:35

Perhaps Suvveners just can't do 'fish and chips' and food of similar ilk, like Norveners? A new thread topic perhaps??!!!

berolina · 16/06/2005 13:37

omg it's been raining babies since i was on here last!!!!!
congratulations jenny, lynny, uki, megi, mcmudda!!!!
sorry for lack of caps - little samuel is asleep in my arm.
havent time to read whole thread im afraid, but was there a call for first timers experiences??? i'll gladly answer any questions about my exp so far!!!

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 13:38

I'm sitting here, screeching away to The Doors, even doing a little bit of dancing and it's given babe the hiccoughs

pipdee · 16/06/2005 13:50

Hi just thought I'd join - due on 2nd of July with my second.

Mogwai - I was also at the U2 concert on Tuesday, had a seat but didn't sit down much! It was fantastic, also seen the last two tours. Dh is the big fan but I love it too. Apparently baby's head is well down now - possibly thanks to a bit of 'vertigo'- well two lots!

Would be pleased if baby came anytime - friend gave me some respberry leaf tea but not sure how much or how often- could always try the sex option but would prob be last resort!

LipstickMum · 16/06/2005 13:55

Hiya Pip, welcome, better late than never We have a stats thread somewhere, under ante-natal goups I think. And if you scroll down this thread you will see that Tribpot is in charge of updating the stats chart (she posts a link)for when we're all due and what we've had, although many of us know aready!!

i'm due next Thurs (23rd) But am possibly going to have a July baby, my 2nd as well.

charleypops · 16/06/2005 13:59
