mogwai · 14/06/2005 09:38

I'll bet his WAS a back-door man, as well

Tessiebear · 14/06/2005 09:57

Congrats to all the new arrivals - the stats board is shaping up as a quite even pink and blue colour.

charleypops · 14/06/2005 10:41

CONGRATULATIONS Jennywren! And welcome to Megan Ann sorry you had such a rough birth. Hope the long stay in hospital wasn't too horrible and you're not traumatised by everything. What's a PPH? Well done for avoiding forceps and cs. It's still early days with the breastfeeding - the fact you sound like you're expressing all her milk is brilliant and she's bound to latch on eventually. As you will know from this site, getting stressed about feeding is really counter productive, so if I were you I'd chill and be more than happy that you're not having to mess about supplementing

Mogwai - I wish I hadn't asked now! That hotel in Koh Samui sounds so lovely. But it's going to have to be kid friendly places from now on I guess... LOVE the idea of a flag! How decadent! Glad to hear I have a fellow appreciator on here of dirty men! Good luck for tonight - hope you're not having a pre-labour clear out! I've had a few days with a dicky tum (most unlike me) and I'm most certainly not in labour yet, so there is hope. And yes, you would look riciculous on a sack trolley - but if it works for you...

I think JM was a back door. front door, windows, cat flap, coal hatch etc etc type man....

mrsflowerpot · 14/06/2005 11:06

Congratulations Lynny McMudda and Jennywren on your new arrivals! That baby stats chart is filling up nicely...

I am very impressed that you all have the energy to think about hunky policemen and men in leather trousers. I think that at the moment I would tell even Jim Morrison back from the grave to take a hike and sort himself out. Even in the fantasy I'm too enormous and uncomfortable!

Well, due tomorrow but not holding out much hope for an on-time baby. At least I know that two weeks today, whatever happens, I will have had it. So I'll definitely be in June even if by the skin of my teeth. Getting veeeery of everyone who has dropped already.

Had to go on ds' nursery trip to the zoo yesterday - felt like a v bad mummy as I couldn't face going on the coach with the rest of them so I took him in the car and met them there. On the way he was singing the songs they had been taught for the coach trip and I felt so bad that he was missing out bless him. Still he had a lovely time and I was glad I'd driven when I was ready to leave an hour early (also think the teachers were worried I would go into labour in their care!). Was knackered last night but couldn't sleep - again, averaging about 4-5 hours at the moment and if one more person tells me it's good practice I will slap them. Don't want practice, want lots of sleep before the baby comes. Moan moan moan.

Hope you've all got a nice sunny day where you are.

welshmum · 14/06/2005 11:21

Big congrats to Lynny on the arrival of Jessica and to Jennywren for Megan - sound pretty rough, you really do deserve the bfing to come together soon - all the best with that and I hope you're somehow getting some rest too.
Mrs FP - it's such a pointless thing to say to pg women isn't it - like you need the practise for being up all night - drove me mad too.
On the fantasy front - my latest one is to actually manage to have sex with dh. Feels like it'll never happen again currently - can't imagine having the energy coinciding with both children being asleep (and not in our room) Have the inclination though though I doubt I'm the most attractive proposition.....have spent some time idly pondering Christopher Ecclestone too although a friend of a friend slept with him recently after a party and apparently he was less than gentlemanly and couldn't get into his tardis quick enough afterwards.
Bubbaloo - hope your nights get better soon.
Hub2dee - thanks for popping in with your good wishes - same to you too.
Charley and mogwai - I think we might plan to go somewhere nice on holiday before I go back to work - might be the Caribbean if we can get ourselves sorted out - all the talk of luxury hotels is making me more than keen to plan something exotic...will have to be family friendly though. Any thoughts?

Lua · 14/06/2005 11:32

Congratulations to Lynny and Jennywren!

Hope your bf sorts it out soon. Expressing is such a drag! I agree with tribpot, ask for help. I remember spending the first week with my first crying all the time because I just couldn't get her to latch and was sure it was my fault! Got a bf counsellor to come by and she showed me a few different positions, which helped. But more than anything she assured me that I was doing all right, and I just need to give DD some time for her to learn how to do it. That really helped me relax and things eventually settled! it will happen!

Bubb- who knows? maybe you are dilating slowly and will be pleasantly surprised to discover it when the whole thing actually happens really fast! Good luck!

MrsF - In case Jim Morrison do show up on your door, don't send him back to the grave. Give him my address! Although if you could arrange for bono or Ewan I would be over the moon!!!

mogwai · 14/06/2005 11:51

Catflap? Jim Morrison?

Bono can have any door he wants, I'll leave the key under the bin

How depressing not to be able to go to one of those lovely luxury flag-waving hotels anymore. I suppose, technically, there would be nothing to stop us, but having honeymooned in one, I must admit, I'm glad there were no kids there. I wouldn't want to impose my baby on some loved-up couple rubbing oil on each other's backs

Seems so long ago now. I also feel HUGE today. Never mind, hubby has just telephoned to say he's outside the chippy and would I like some fish with a carton of fruity curry? What's a girl supposed to do?

mogwai · 14/06/2005 11:52

and who needs Bono when you've got a hubby offering fruity curry? (dubious, confused emoticon)

Franniban · 14/06/2005 11:56

Morning all.
Big congrats to Jennywren, sounds like you had a really hard time, but well done, you got through it, and you and the baby are well, and that's what matters. Don't get too despondant re the bf, it will come. I really like the name Megan, too.
Trib, Miriam is lying to one of us! I suspect it might be me as my book is 1999. Hey ho! It all gets confusing when it all happens anyway.
Hi Bub, how frustrating is that! All these signs and nothing happening, it's not fair is it!
Good luck tonight at the gig, mogwai, I think that's a fab idea to rock up on a sack trolley, dare you to do it!
Well, had an awful night last night, ds woke up at 2.30 then I saw 4.30. DH decamped into spare room, then ds woke up at 5.30, so I do sympathise with the no sleeping bit.
Nothing happening today, so off to lunch this afternoon. Will catch up with you all later,

XX

mogwai · 14/06/2005 11:58

still considering the trolley, Franniban. Worried it might spoil my chances with Bono, though

JonahB · 14/06/2005 12:20

Afternoon all,

Coop, I totally agree with you. There is absolutely no nesting instincts coming from my direction. That?s what my fabulous cleaners are for . Glad that everything is okay with the baby. LOL at your lovely policeman and your tomato stain. Trying to flirt while heavily pgt isn?t easy, is it?

Lynny, a big congratulations to you, Lee, Leona and baby Jessica.

Jennywren, congratulations to you and Megan. Sorry to hear it was such a traumatic birth.

Bubb, sorry you?re having a miserable time at the moment with this backache. Have you been given an induction date yet?

Welshie, don?t get the Christopher ecclestone thing. Did you see him on Top Gear on Sunday (I am a closet Top Gear fan ? sorry)? He had a beard and looked v. unappetising.

Mogwai, I wouldn?t worry about Bono not being interested in you on a trolley. From what I hear, he is especially attracted to heavily pgt women who are wheeled out into his path

Obviously, no news from here. I've even had my lovely beauty therapist ringing me this am to ask if there was any news yet. Well, we have finally bought another car, so that's another job done. I now feel much safer with DH driving our baby round in a car that isn't about to collapse into a rusty heap. Just got to persuade DH not to leave it constantly resembling a rubbish bin..

LipstickMum · 14/06/2005 12:53

Back again

Trying desperately to keep up! It sounds like there would be rather a queue for ole Jim then!? I don't think I've ever met anyone who fancied him!

Forget to give a big congratulations to Jenny and Megan!! Good luck with the feeding and everything. I agree with...Lua, get a bf counsellor to come and help you. That's what they're there for.

Glad to hear that plans are afoot for an exotic holiday still Charley! Your hotel priorities certainly change though; baby pool, lift, creche from 6 months etc etc all become incredibly critical, over pool bar, evening entertainment, in house beauty therapist once you've had babies !!! We've got a couple of holidays planned in the first 6 months, I can't wait (Apart from the bikini bit ) !!!

Being waxed in an hour - hurrah!!!! I can start wearing dresses and skirts again, was getting far too hot for tights.

Got a wee bit of cleaning to do before wax lady arrives, so I'll see you all later!

tribpot · 14/06/2005 14:53

Bubba, sorry to hear you had such a painful awakening, sounds like mine from the night before but about 10 times worse. Hope you are doing okay now.

Jonah, congrats on the new car - shame the baby isn't so easy to acquire really! Are you scheduled in for tomorrow?

Franni - absolutely appalled that Miriam, doyenne of childbirth, would change her view on how to time contractions in between books. Mine is the revised edition from 2000 (although I actually bought it last year of course). I think I am going to go and check What To Expect for an independent view on the matter.

Well, I'm just back from the hospital. Bubs has been far too quiet today and even the kicking chair didn't bring him out of hiding. Admittedly I didn't have any Belgian Chocolate Haagen Dasz in for the ultimate test so I called the Antenatal Assessment Unit as my second choice They told me to come in immediately, which was a bit unexpected - I assumed they'd tell me to lie down for a while and see what happened. Anyway, had to wake dh up and announce we were going pronto (he was less than thrilled, good practice for the Real Thing maybe?) and off we went. All is fine, heartbeat strong, plenty of movement, albeit maybe not so easy to detect now. Head seems to be engaged as well, yippee!

MrsF, the comment about practising sleep deprivation really is stupid, isn't it? And even more for a second-time mum, I mean - you have done your practice with ds, why would you need a refresher course?!

bubbaloo · 14/06/2005 14:55

afternoon all,

finally got the chance to try and catch-up!!

coop-sorry to hear about your scare yesterday but glad things are going well.keep those feet up and i'm sure you'll make it past thursday.

charley-nice to see you back.i really don't know where you get your energy from-i'm basically good for nothing at the mo!

franni-hope you had a fab lunch today and that your friend gets off safely at the weekend.

jonah-also saw top gear on sunday.not a pretty sight was it?.
good luck with your induction tomorrow.i haven't been given a date yet,but i'm seeing the consultant on thursday so i should know by then.

lippy-im with you on jim morrison.can't see what the big deal with bono is either-sorry mogwai and enjoy tonight!

all this talk of faraway, hot destinations that we've decided to book a week away in sept.
we are looking forward to a very exotic holiday to...great yarmouth!!

the baby will only be about 10 wks old but does anyone know if thats too young to take him swimming in the pool? if not, what would he need to wear? do you have to get special swimming nappies or something?-i havent a clue.

well the backache has gone once again but i did phone the hospital earlier and speak to a midwife.she said it's nothing to worry about,he's probably laying funny.she also sais that when i start to get really painful contractions to phone again for some more advice-blimey...the backpain was bad enough!!!

bubbaloo · 14/06/2005 14:57

trib-x posts.

glad everythings fine with the baby!!

PinkArjuna · 14/06/2005 15:00

Congratulations JennyWren

There are alot more girls than we thought and as Tessiebear said earlier it seems to be quite even.

Not much happening here. I have my midwife appointment tomorrow. I find it is really slow and painful walking these days because the baby is so heavy. To be honest I wouldn't know if he was coming until something definative happened. I've had a few signs but dismiss them as nothing. Unless I get really painful contractions or waters breaking I'd just think I was making a big fuss I wonder when he'll turn up. Though I am fine lying around like a slob too.

Hope everyone is ok. I've washed the nappies and my dishes and thats my nesting done

mogwai · 14/06/2005 15:47

right..I'm just about to leave for the gig, having held onto this baby all afternoon. Am wearing a teeshirt that says "Achtung Baby"a dn have the digital camera hidden between my boobs. I look an absolute sight

charleypops · 14/06/2005 16:40

MrsF - lol at you wanting to slap people telling you lack of sleep is good practice - my sentiments exactly!

Welshie - my goodness you've recovered quickly if you're contemplating saddling up dh so soon! Lol about Christopher Ecclestone running back to his tardis after romancing your friend's friend! Men! I'd say Antigua would be great for kids, but that's the only Caribbean island I've been to. There's a fantastic resort there called St James's which we spent a bit of time in - posh, beautiful pools, beautiful beach, easy peasy all-inclusive. lovely staff etc. We said we'd stay there if we ever wanted an easy Caribbean holiday. And why wouldn't you. You'd have to check re kiddies (never took any notice of them back then so can't remember) but can't remeber there not being any. The resort we stayed in was great too, not quite as luxurious, but can't remember the name. I believe there's a Sandals to which you can take kids too. Probably vastly expensive though...

Mogwai - how was your poncey fruity curry? Give me a nice old fashioned Northern luminous greeny yellow one poured over me chips anyday How was the gig? Did you get off with Bonio?

Jonah - glad you've finally got a car! Dp and I were driving around in his on Sunday and we heard this tremendous knocking and rubbery squeaking - we had to pull over and discoverd the front wheel nuts were just about off - dp could turn them with his fingers He'd only just had his tyres replaced last week - they obviously hadn't tightened them. And he'd driven right up to Coventry and back again, And we could easily have been doing a mad dash up the A3 with me in labour!! Lord knows what could've happened. Luckily we were just popping to Homebase.

Lippy - really? You've never met anyone that fancied Jim Morrison?! I spent a considerable part of my teen mooning over him - and Jimi Hendrix. And John Lydon (OopsI suddenly sense I've lost everyone there! ) Can you leave your baby in a hotel creche on holiday? Are they safe? Can you use them for a titchy one or are they generally for over 6 monthers? Great tips though Where are you going on your hols? Hope you had a good old wax!

Trib - I find that orange juice gets Pod disco dancing. Sorry you had that scare

Bubb - you can buy Neoprene body wrap wetsuits for tiny babies - they keep them insulated against big changes in temperature - I'm going to get one for Pod if I can find them anywhere - seen a couple of second hand ones on Ebay but would prefer a new one for some reason. Not sure either about nappies. I can't wait to take him swimming and would like to know at what age you can start - I guess a quick call to the local pool would enlighten us. Unfortunately if I want to take him swimming I'm going to have to join the gym (David Lloyd) as there is no local pool. They have a free creche . Thinking about cancelling BUPA to justify the fees seeing as BUPA won't help out with the cost of a private post-natal room, or cover Pod if anything untoward should occur

Pink - well done for doing that washing up - more than I've done round the house today!

I've been walking round Guildford today and Pod feels VERY low - I could hardly walk actually by the time we got back to the car. No pains though... still can't believe I'm going to have an actual baby

PinkArjuna · 14/06/2005 17:29

Right My waters broke so I'm off to the hospital for monitoring. Hope everyone is ok. Sitting around eating my four for all from Pizza hut. I hope I don't puke it up later.

sparklymieow · 14/06/2005 17:30

don't normally come on these threads, but GOOD LUCK!!!

MrsWednesday · 14/06/2005 17:31

Oh my goodness, all the very best of luck Pink!!!! Take care, hope everything goes well, will be thinking of you.

charleypops · 14/06/2005 17:37

Good luck Pink - I'll be thinking of you!

JennyWren · 14/06/2005 18:01

Hello everyone. I'm hooked up to this pump again, so I might as well make good use of the time!

Cooperoo - a PPH is a post-partum haemorrage (a big bleed after the end of the third stage). They are more common if you have a long second stage like I did, because the uterine muscle is more tired and doesn't clamp down properly. I lost about one and a half litres of blood, so that took it's toll and I wasn't really well enough to focus on feeding that day, so that may have exacerbated the feeding issues we're having.

I do know my local NCT breastfeeding councellor though, so I'm going to give her a call tonight to see if she can offer us any more tips and just to get some extra reassurance. But actually the midewives and my health visitor have been fab about it, and Megan is putting on weight well now - she lost more than her 10%, so they had been worried and we were put on quite a tight schedule of 3-hourly feeds - directed because she rarely 'demands', so demand feeding wasn't working very well. But she has put on 6.5 ounces in the last 3 days, so she is catching up fast! She is certainly having plenty of wet and dirty nappies, so from that point of view we're not worrying. She was a bit jaundiced but that seems to be passing too. She was a bit early (due on the 11th but born on the 7th) so maybe she's just a little bit behind.

The good thing about having such a placid baby is that she sleeps well!!!

Franniban · 14/06/2005 18:01

Oh Pink, how exciting, good luck, hope it doesn't take ages to get going.
Re the swimming, I think it depends on the pool and some recommend that you wait until they've had they're jabs, but as far as I remember I took ds swimming at about 6/8 weeks. You can get disposable swim nappies or special trunks from mothercare, that are like terry nappies.
God, a holiday would be fab. No money here, so no chance unless we win the lottery as dh dreamt last night.
Had a lovely lunch with my nct girls, very sad to see my friend go. We did a photo album from the last 18 months, of all of us and the babies and dhs. She was really touched.
I'm off to have a lie down, as I'm exhuasted. Will check in later XX

bubbaloo · 14/06/2005 18:24

good luck pink-hopefully not long to go.
