Congratulations McMudda

Coop what does IYKWIM mean? I keep seeing it but haven't a clue what it actually means. Hope you are ok and glad things seemed ok at your appointment.

Good to see you about Charley I was wondering where you and lippy had been hiding.

Well no sign of the baby he was due yesterday and I went off around Bristol with a friend and her little girl.

Whats this nesting thing? I do understand the concept but have never been one for fussing. Though on Saturday night I considered I should sort out the baby's room just incase. Though I didn't wash any dishes. I know that'll piss me off if I come home to stinking dishes. Perhaps I should wash them

Well my dad fixed up these metal D rings to lock my pram to so it won't get stolen I am glad there is no way I could carry it up the stairs every time. My neighbours continue to be arseholes and the painting is not done. Anyway hope everyone is well.

Franniban · 13/06/2005 14:25

Hi everyone,
Coop, frightening having to go and be monitored, but then again, as you say it's quite nice to hear the babe and that all is ok, and great that it responds to dh and dd voice, very reassuring. I had to be monitored last Monday and I felt the same.
I think that you time the contractions from when one stops to when it starts again, but will check with Miriam! Interestingly on the engaged bit, last week the babe was not engaged and the consultand wrote 5/5. People obviously have different ways of writing it.
Yes, just checked with Miriam and she says the above.
Re nesting, have cleared out ds warbrobe today, and put stuff in the waiting to wear draw for the next one, lets hope it's a boy. That's about the extent of the nesting going down in this house today.
Oh Jonah, don't be sad, I know it's frustrating, but the chimp will be hear soon.
Lippy, I agree, best not to take any signs as impending labour. My friend who has triplets reckons that it's mediviel medicine, especially when they measure with a tape measure to see how many weeks you are!
Trib, I think you are right about a plot, all these false signs! Drives you mad!

Cooperoo · 13/06/2005 15:37

Hi all
Pink - IYKWIM is If you know what I mean. Your dad is great fixing those d rings too.
Franni - Yes I don't think I seriously thought about how scary that must be before. I sometimes feel I have been far too laid back about everything but I think my m/w reading was a bit of a blip while I was laying on my back. It did increase when I rolled on my side but I am glad I went for the trace anyway.
I have to share with you that I have just had THE most gorgeous military policeman come and take my statement. He must have been 6'2, tanned, muscular, just beautiful looking. Nice teeth, and even nice hands. I was quite overwhelmed and to top it all off he had a gentle scottish accent and was really nice too. Sadly at 9 months pregnant with a grumbly toddler and in my oldest shorts and t-shirt slobbing round the house combo I didn't have it in me to even try and flirt. DH found it very funny when I told him especially the bit about me trying to subtley remove the tomato stain from the bump part of my t-shirt. This is a lesson to us all to always make an effort . Aww don't get me wrong I am totally in love with my DH but what a lovely surprise. It has quite cheered me up .

charleypops · 13/06/2005 17:50

Trib - hope you've managed to have a snooze since you woke up at 2 this morning - I managed another hour shortly after posting (must've bored myself back to sleep ) Just had another look at my notes - I was mistaken it actually says 2/5 for my most recent appt, and 4/5 from the week before (when I went in with that horrible tummy bug), and Pod does feel much lower this week. The column is headed "presentation in relation to brim" so I guess it's good news! And I've managed to avoid the old 2/3rds chestnut! It was good to find out that I was Strep B -ve, but because I'm part of the hospital's trial, I have to have another test when I go in for the birth (if I can remember to remind them). Are you having another one?

Hi Franni - my goodness, what a mad dream! I dreamt I worked for the queen who was a secret hippy and had long hair, but wore it under a wig for the TV!

Lippy - really? no waters or plug? Thanks for telling me that, I'd have been waiting for that to happen no doubt even if I was properly contracting before doing anything about it Hope my waters go when I'm pushing - I imagine it would be easier to push a baby out in a gush of water...

Mogwai - oh Thai fish, barbecued on the beach! Oh my goodness, it's all coming back! Where did you stay for your honeymoon? Would you recommend it? BTW the sexiest guy in leather jeans ever - the original and best has to be Jim Morrison

Lua - Blimey - did that woman next to you on the pre-labour ward give birth there? didn't she go to a labour room?

Jonah - poor you! These are loooonnng days aren't they.

Coop - what a horrible scare - I'm so pleased everything's ok. I bet if we had to be monitored 24/7 things like the baby's heartbeat slowing/blood pressure/glucose levels etc would be bound to fluctuate for all of us, it's just unfortunate I suppose that it sometimes happens when we're being checked. I reckon you have a point about being on your back whilst getting monitored. When I had that doppler scan for the cord blood I asked the sonographer if it would be more accurate if I were to sit or stand. I cannot stand lying on my back - I feel like I'm going to suffocate. Your policeman sounds far too good to be true - I bet he's gay What a shame you weren't prepared for a nice bit of flirtage though - what a waste! Lol at your tomato stain on your bump - All my tee shirts end up with stuff like that on them at the moment - it's the bean juice phenomenon - a particularly attractive finishing touch I think for a heavily pregnant lady!

Pink - wow, you're overdue! Looks like I could well be joining you after the 16th! Never thought I'd be overdue - still time though I guess... How are your neighbours still being arseholes?

hub2dee · 13/06/2005 19:31

Just a note to all Junies to wish you the best of luck for a great birth experience. Congrats to those who have already had their babies.

And a special shout for charleypops as we helped each other decide on our Mountain Buggy pushchairs after weeks of contemplation (cp - have e-mailed you !). And to Cooperoo who has helped me learn about cloth nappies (hope all your baby's 'stats' were just caught at an odd moment). (Apologies if I've missed anyone I've chatted too a lot - haven't read the thread).

We're due end July / beginning August so it won't be too long for us either.

Franniban · 13/06/2005 21:41

Evening all,
Big congrats to Lynny on the arrival of Jessica, well done you!
Been feeling quite uncomfortable since walking back from supermarket this afternoon, but don;t suppose anything will happen. The wierdest thing tho, I bumped into the midwife that helped deliver ds. Not seen her for 17.5 months. How bizare is that. I'm hoping that this is a good omen and things are on the move. Really don't want anything to happen before tomorrow evening as we've got a lunch meet with my nct girls and one of my friends is emigrating to Canada at the weekend and it will be the last chance to see her and her babies.
Coop, lol re tomato stain, I've ruined so many tshirts this time. Very attractive! Nothing like a bit of eye candy to cheer you up, eh?!!
Have a comfortable night everyone, xx

LipstickMum · 13/06/2005 21:44

Hi everyone

Congratulations to Lynny and family, Lee, Leona and her new sister, Jessica!

I'm actually off to bed, just wondered if anyone had hatched

Yup Charley, no 'show', no waters (they broke them well into labour, think I'd already had the epidural). Just had contractions for ages, that's why I wasn't exactly sure what was happening, I was so convinced I would get other 'signs' to tell me I was in labour!!

Pink, ordinarily, I'm a bit obsessive about my home, it's an affliction Not quite Bree Van de Kamp, but close. So, I have to clean and paint this house into oblivion before the baby arrives. Don't forget though, it's been a total shit hole for months, with no upstairs operating whatsoever!!!
Some women nest, some don't, count yourself very lucky if you escape the bug.

Another busy day for me tomorrow, time for bed now I think.

JennyWren · 13/06/2005 22:02

Hi everyone,

I had meant to post a bit more often once I started my maternity leave, but events kind of overtook me...!

Megan Ann was born last Tuesday, weighing 7lb 7oz. My waters broke just after I went to bed on Monday night, and contractions started straight away and were every 4 minutes after half an hour. I had an easy first stage - 5 hours with a TENS machine and then water bath, but then the contractions weakened right down and after 5 hours in second stage, having tried all the tricks in the book to bring them back up again, I was transfered from my midwife-led unit to the major hospital for oxytocin, a spinal and epidural, tear, episiotomy and finally a bad PPH!

I had a bad time, but thankfully Megan emerged without any problems, and I pushed her out without needing the threatened forceps or C section. We came out of hospital yesterday, and I'm very glad to be home! I'm still a bit anaemic but otherwise OK, and Megan is a poppet. Although it was very far from my ideal birth, all the staff were fabulous and really helped us to feel as if we were still in control of all the decisions. I just feel bad for my dh, who had to sit and watch me bleeding all over the place - I was too out of it to care, but he got a bit of a shock.

Unfortunately Megan is having trouble breastfeeding, so I am having to express all her milk. I'm doing OK at the moment, just hoping I'll be able to keep up with demand! But it takes forever. Megan is showing more signs of getting the idea, and the midwives say that there is a good chance that one day she'll click and we'll be OK. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to take it one feed at a time and not get too stressed about the whole thing.

Well, no posts from me for weeks, then a mammoth one all at once! I haven't had a chance to read everyone else's posts, but I hope it is going well for you all. I'll try to catch up over the next few days - when I get a minute between pumps and feeds and sleep - it's like being a baby myself!

MrsWednesday · 13/06/2005 22:30

Congratulations JennyWren. Blimey, it sounds like some birth experience! Hope you recover very quickly. You've chosen beautiful names!

And congratulations to the Lynny family too, welcome to the world Jessica. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Beautiful picture of Elizabeth, she is gorgeous.

Short visit as have DS2 on my lap and I think he wants feeding.

bubbaloo · 13/06/2005 22:44

CONGRATULATIONS jennywren.

nice to hear from you again and sorry to hear the birth didn't go to plan.main thing is your'e both ok and hopefully on a speedy road to recovery.

lovely name yet again!

mogwai · 13/06/2005 22:46

Charleypops we stayed in Bangkok 4 night, Chiaing Mai 4 nights and Koh Samui 12 nights. The only hotel I can remember was the Tongsai Bay on Koh Samui. Yes, I'd recommend it, it was FANTASTIC, but it's not for kids. It's full of honeymooners wanting peace and quiet (I didn't see a single child in twelve nights)

They take you down to the beach on a golf cart, to save your legs, and give you a flag to wave so you don't have to get off your sunlounger and go to the bar . It was heaven. Sigh. Those days now long gone.

Yes, Jim Morrison. I agree. There's a real theme here, our leather men, Jim, Michael and Bono. They are all kind of ......dirty looking, don't you think?

Wish me luck for the U2 concert tomorrow night. I've had a jippy tummy today, inexplicably. It's not looking good!!!!

Cooperoo · 14/06/2005 06:04

CONGRATULATIONS Lynny and family on the safe arrival of Jessica. I think you have been through it having her as you went in on the 8th didn't you so I hope you are not too exhausted. Look after yourself and make sure your lovely family are looking after you too...... So glad to hear your news.
CONGRATULATIONS JennyWren too. You went through it too after such a promising start! Hope you are well on the road to recovery and enjoying Megan. Good Luck with the breastfeeding too. Just keep offering her the boob. Berolina will have some great advice on this. Try her thread on feeding 'Breastfeeding, will it ever work out?' and good luck. Expressing is exhausting.
Charley and Mogwai - Yes agree on the Jim Morrison thing too. Mmmm. My DH is so the opposite though, clean cut and sporty lol (pic of him on the Yahoo site with dd.) I obviously have a lot of types .
Hi Hub - Thanks for the message. It will be you soon!!!
McMudda - Gorgeous picture.
I have spent all night hoping not to go into labour, but that piccie makes me realise what it is all about again.....lovely.
Mogwai - Think positive, the tummy is just excitement! Hope you make it.
Lippy - Hope you are having some 'fun' time inbetween all your nesting...or are you enjoying it Mrs Van der Kamp??? .
Franni - Hope you hang on for your meet up with your friends.
Well no news here apart from the computer is being a bit temperamental typically. My mum is worrying about me bless her and dd is watching FAR too much TV .
Have great days all. Sorry if I have missed anyone again ...

tribpot · 14/06/2005 09:05

Congratulations JennyWren! I don't seem to have your due date so I've put you in the stats as if Megan arrived on time latest baby stats

Coop, sorry to hear about your scare at the ante-natal appointment yesterday, glad all is well. Timing of contractions - I checked with Miriam and it's from the start of one to the start of the next. Franni, did you think Miriam had written the opposite? I was looking at p 272 where she says "you can time your contractions from the beginning of one contraction to the beginning of the next".

Pink, glad to hear the pram will be securable, would be a nightmare if it got nicked. Not sure if doing the washing up counts as nesting but I will go and put the dishwasher on and then that can be both of our nesting activities for the week

Hub2dee - best of luck to you.

McMudda/Muddahubby, Elizabeth is absolutely gorgeous, you must all be so proud.

Franni - hoping things hold off for you just long enough to get to your lunch date today! I'm determined not to go into labour now til after the cleaner has been to blitz the flat tomorrow Would be gutted to miss out on that, might send dh home from the hospital to supervise if need be!

Jenny, make sure you're getting some proper support, nothing worse than battling on alone. Hope you can get off the "Expressing Express" soon!

Bubs has been very quiet since yesterday afternoon so I'm off to sit in 'the kicking chair' to see if I can stir him a bit. Have a good day all!

mogwai · 14/06/2005 09:06

am awake and trying hard not to think of any man in leather trousers. Apparently am going to see some show or other tonight, but can't rememebr who it is. Not sure I can be bothered to go.

Am a bit worried about walking from the car to the stadium, it's quite a walk. I really need to be wheeled. The only wheels we have are on a porter's trolley we bought to move the fridge. What do you think? Would I look ridiculous?

bubbaloo · 14/06/2005 09:34

morning all,

well im still here-just!!!
i had another awful night and really thought i was going into labour, yet again.
woke up with horrific backache, feeling sick and like i needed the loo-just horrible.
i even took my hospital notes and mobile to the loo, just incase-and 3am!!
finally mananged to go back to bed and now ive woken up i feel ok.getting really fed up with it now and thinking that maybe being induced next week would be better-at least i can go off to hospital still in one piece and feeling ok-oh well!!

will be back on later(hopefully)to catch up properly.hope everyone is ok.

LipstickMum · 14/06/2005 09:35

Morning all

Quick comment on the 'leather trousers' thing...

Jim Morrison. Abso-fing-lutely. Had a major crush and Doors obsession when I was about 18, not sure it's over yet!!! Him singing Back Door Man, always got me going

Ok, back to mothering and being good

Catch up later xxx
