mogwai, I saw tne elevation tour about 5 years ago. I was about 3 m away from the stage and had a fantastic experience!!!! It will be worth your two hours wait!

mogwai · 12/06/2005 20:49

You're so right Lua

I also saw elevation tour, Popmart in 1997 and ZOO TV in 1993. Am a TRUE U2 fan!

That man is freaking gorgeous

(Mind you, looking quite haggard these days, with hair a bit like Roy Orbison so quite glad to be a bit further away from him, where he can still make my cervix contract!!!!!!)

LipstickMum · 12/06/2005 21:33

Hello everyone

COngratulations to Scraggy!!

Congratulations to McMudda!!!

Excellent news

I'm feeling a little bit I've been so busy around the house nesting and not really keeping up with the thread at all. In fact, I feel quite disconnected from all the chit chat, it's quite sad considering it was such a massive part of my daily routine for so long!! I think once the baby's here, I will be out of it completely.

Maybe it's just a sadness about the end of our pregnancy journey together, perhaps I'll feel more buoyant once we are all on the post-natal thread.

I heard from Charley. Her laptop is not working and her old, clunky pc is too slow to cope with MN I believe. Plus she is busy, decorating and nesting.

I am getting on top of the cleaning. All the little jobs you never do, are being done, in between ad breaks and so forth. Sometimes you just look at something and know you can't cope with the dirt/shoddyness of it a second longer! Ahhh, nesting

Well, I do need to go and do a few little things before bed, see you all tomorrow.

PS. On Tuesday I am booked in for a half leg, bikini and eyebrow wax {grin] Perhaps that will be the point where I truly feel 'ready' to give birth... or maybe you never do!

mogwai · 12/06/2005 21:41

I personally feel a bit worried that I'm in denial about this giving birth thing.

For the last couple of days I've felt a bit down in the dumps. We went to a BBQ last night and there was a couple there who talked about their dd (3 years old) all evening, or rather, they talked about pregnancy, parenthood etc.

I found it really boring and had to go into the house and read the paper! I started to think I'm not ready to have this baby and what I really want is to go to India.

It's a bit late now! I felt like the worst mother on earth afterwards

MrsWednesday · 12/06/2005 21:54

Congratulations to the McMudda family. Great news! And a lovely name too. Looking forward to hearing all about it when you are fully recovered.

Mogwai, I laughed out loud at your India comment...very funny.

Teabelly, your DD is beautiful. Will try and get a picture sorted of DS2 this week (now that he's not looking quite so purple )

Berolina, you have done so amazingly well continuing with breast-feeding, I'm sure I would have given up ages ago. I'm glad things are picking up and you can start enjoying being a mum.

mogwai · 12/06/2005 21:57

OR Thailand....

bubbaloo · 12/06/2005 22:15

lippy-must agree it is getting very quiet on here lately.i seem to be the only one around or who is bored with not much to do at the mo.i bet it'll all change once the babies arrive-dont know if i'll have as much time then.
glad you've heard from charley-was wondering where she'd got to!
good luck for tuesday btw-your'e very brave!!!

tribpot · 12/06/2005 22:19

Well yippee for the McMuddas, oblig baby stats update

I have also been nesting in my own fashion, i.e. my new cleaner starts tomorrow Actually I was pleasantly relieved to read in What To Expect that as many women end up slumped on the sofa for the final weeks of pregnancy (me) as go mad nesting (Lippy and Charley).

Mogwai, I've been feeling v down in the dumps as well, don't think you're the only one.

Night all!

teabelly · 12/06/2005 22:43

Oh congratulations McMudda (and family) and a beautiful name too

Thanks for all the lovely comments re Amber...we're alittle biased here , as I'm sure all new parents are!

Re the feeling blue...I'm sure I read that you get mood swings before the 'big' event, and I know I was snapping unfairly at everyone at home in the days leading up to Amber's birth.

LOL Mogwai re worst mum comment but chose Thailand - nicer food!! Bono oh no , now he'd make my cervix close permanently, he he he

Hi ya Lippy and thanks for the update for Charley...keep wondering when you don't hear from people if things have happened for them!

Coop - wow such excitement and still no baby...s/he must really want to wait until that clinic opens on site!

Trib, rofl about the eyebrow waxing!!! She obviously hasn't had any children, he he he!

Cooperoo · 13/06/2005 05:54

Morning all.
Well today is my due date. Lots of wriggling from the baby last night but no signs of anything today....thankfully as just trying to hang on till the end of the week. I must be the only person happy to go overdue.
Mogwai - I am v v v v about you getting to see U2. I saw them at their Zooropa (?) tour. What a show! I was totally overwhelmed and Bono is sex on legs. One of only two men I think get/got away with leather trousers (Michael Hutchence being the other)...although Ewan Mcgregor in bike leathers was phwaorrr too. Anyway enough excitement so early in the morning.
Lippy - You need to prioritise MN over nesting!! My nesting kicks in for about five mins and then I am happy back on the sofa again conserving my energy...or in denial I am not sure which at the mo.
Jonah - You are so right about the neighbours talking about that one for a while lol. I am waiting to be told all about it at creche today by people who obviously weren't there .
Well all for now as dd needs attending to. Still no news from Lynny......Hope all is OK.....
Have great days all.

charleypops · 13/06/2005 06:32

Hello Everyone

Long post alert!! Sorry not been around, finally (hopefully) caught up this morning - woke up at 4!!

Firstly

Congratulations Scraggy!! Lucy's such a pretty name. And

Congratulations to the McMuddas - Lol at MrMc reading the "how to deliver in a taxi" section - Glad it sounds like he didn't have to put the info to use Thanks for posting Muddahubby! What a lovely romantic name!

It's a good job this thread's slowed down because I've just realised I haven't posted since Wednesday at stupid o'clock in the morning. Been doing loads of last minute jobs like finishing off decorating the bathroom, made a couple of shelves too from some spare antique floorboards which actually go really well in there Been snoozing quite a bit too. I was on my hands and knees earlier and when I stood up Pod suddenly felt really low and heavy, so hopefully(!) things might be progressing. Looked in my notes, and my doc had put me as 4/5 engaged last Tues or whenever it what, so that was a nice suprise considering how I was convince he wasn't even going to turn over at all a few weeks ago. I baked for the first time in my life a couple of days ago - over a pound of shortcake - for taking into hospital with me for me and the mws (they cheekily mentioned that bringing lots of biscuits and chocolate in for everyone was the normal procedure . Dp doesn't normally touch carbs, but it would seem he decided to make an exception and they were all gone by Saturday afternoon - I'm sure I only had about 4!!

Trib - 2 cms seems to me to be such a small amount to be concerned about - I agree that if baby's not engaged, then the measurement's bound to be bigger. Once engaged, the head measurement factor's going to disappear isn't it? Re BHs - I didn't realise for ages that I was getting BHs at all until I read somewhere that some women mistake them for the baby moving about, I then realised that that's what I had been thinking too - but I can recognise them (Ithink) now because my tummy feels kind of tight and hard at the same time. I have also read however, that whilst the women can be convinced she isn't having any, that if she's put on a monitor, the monitor can pick up lots. BTW I was told that my Strep B results were negative too.

Katz - what a beautiful little girl!

Bubbs - at your 10 pounder! They do say though don't they that delivering a big baby can be easier and more straightforward than a little one. I am so big I simply cannot believe that Pod is going to be particularly small at all - I reckon he's going to be well into 7lbs. And my feet are only a 1.5!!!! Sorry you were in such pain yesterday with your back - I'm sure it must be a good sign though - what other explaination could there be???

Jonah - how are you doing, any signs yet?

MrsW - sorry you've had a worrying time lately at the hospital, so glad everything's alright.

Nogger - good for you not getting stressed about Isla's body clock. Were you really not able to walk for 10 days first time around? Why do you think that was? Did you have an epidural/stitches and stuff?

Lua/Welshie - Congratulations on getting in your non-pg trousers. That's just brilliant so soon afterwards. All my pre pg clothes look like doll's clothes to me now - can't even get them over my thighs so think it might take me a bit longer...

Megi - hope the results of your swab are reassuring - you get them today don't you? What a shame you had to wait all weekend.

Coop - glad you've made a decision to go to the hospital. Must be a relief after all this uncertainty, even though it's far from your ideal situation. FWIW, I've made the decision to not have any pain relief, and even though I would like a pool labour, there's a good chance I won't be able to get one because there's only the one. So far on this thread, we seem to have been doing very well without it! Fingers still crossed for your new clinic though What excitement yesterday - thank goodness no one was hurt and it didn't start you off! That woman must have been in a state - does she live on the camp? When my mum was pushing me around Catterick Garrison when I was a baby, a drunken squaddy drove straight into me, I flew out and into a ditch - he drove off and was never found out!

MrsF - as i mentioned earlier, I only have size 1.5 feet, (I'm 5ft1) and - I've asked time and time again if I need to be seen by a obstetric physio, and have been told no on every occasion - they just say wait and see what happens No scans or measuring for me then! Hope you get your vbac Lol at your mum trying to demand a time when your baby's going to arrive!

Lippy - why on earth are you so busy - you should be relaxing! Your organisation knows no bounds really! You'll have everything beautifully waxed on Tues, then just as it's settled down and any rashy bits have disappeared, out she'll pop - a designer birth!

Pink - don't worry about the car tax thing. I'm always a few days (or weeks) late and they just backdate it. At least that's the way it was last year... (mine's due this month too)

Bero - re Domperidone - you need to take quite a lot of it. You can buy it from on-line pharmacies, but it works out extremely expensive - you need to take about 8 tablets a day. here is the cheapest place I've found on-line for it. I've left my doc a folder of info about domperidone in an attempt to persuade him to prescribe it for me. Did you see the link I posted for you a few days ago for the at-breast supplementor? Mines, just arrived in the UK so hopefully I'll get it soon... It does sound like you're doing really well as you are though - I'd much prefer not to have to think about domperidone or supplementing paraphenalia - I'm worried I'll become reliant on it.

Tea - another beauty there - she looks very contemplative. Aw!

Hi Mogwai - you're on our June baby stats, so be sure to let us know when the time comes! Enjoy Bono! Lol at you taking your Tens machine! And Lol about you wanting to go to India too - we went to Goa last Christmas. Prefer Thailand (oo, such a sweeping statement ) Anyway, you can take little babies anywhere apparently, so I'm looking forward to getting somewhere hot and Eastern in the next few months. FGS don't feel bad about some couple droning on about their child all night - just think, you'll be boring people to tears too about your little one before you know it!

Does everyone get a show before labour begins? I have had no signs yet. It's supposed to be a clear but blood tinged jelly type stuff isn't it?

tribpot · 13/06/2005 06:50

Morning ladies, another one who can't sleep. I woke up at 2 with such terrible abdominal/back pain that I was convinced labour was starting - but no, it was just the pain of having been lying down for 3 hours Dozed on and off in the chair since then, what fun.

Charley, unfortunately 4/5 engaged could really mean 1/5 engaged. My mw wrote me down as 4-5/5 last week, meaning the baby's head was hardly engaged if at all. There doesn't seem to be a standard way of writing it - 5/5 can mean "all the way" or "not at all". But hopefully for your sake Pod is nearly all the way! Good news about your Strep B result.

Coop - fingers crossed for you. Any update on the clinic, are you aiming to keep your legs crossed til Thursday still?

tea - actually the eyebrow waxing lady turned out to be 17 weeks pregnant, I think the sight of me prone on her treatment table with my 38 weeks tummy was just too much for her to cope with and she was in denial

Hope we all have a good day, and there's some news from Lynny soon.

Franniban · 13/06/2005 08:59

Morning girls.

Congratulations to the Mcmudda family.
Hope things hold off for you Coop. Nice to see you Charley.
Coop, lol at the nesting instinct kicking for only 5 mins at a time. Mine kicked in in mid May for about 2 days and now it's no where to be seen. And the bloody house needs cleaning all over again!!
Mogwai, I would go to India too, such a fab place. Enjoy bono.
Well, don't know about anyone else, but been having the most vivid dreams. I think it might be time for this baby to come out. Last night I dreamt that I'd had a boy by cs, except my neighbours had had it done for me down at Safeway (don't know where I was!). They'd left the baby in an incubator in the front garden, with a note that really upset me. They'd played Celine Dion throughout the operation!!! Strange or what!
Well hope everyone has a good day, take care X

LipstickMum · 13/06/2005 09:20

Hi all

Doing my best to catch up and not nest

I wouldn't fret about the being engaged position. Some babies don't engage until labour avtually begins do they? But, I would have thought if a mw or dr writes '4/5 engaged' it must mean 4/5's in the pelvis rather than 1/5 in the pelvis [confused emoticon] How can it not?? But we are just mere mortals

Charley, dd was overdue, I didn't have a show or waters breaking, just contractions. Damn text books led me right up the garden path, I'm sure I wont have them this time either!!

I have to go and do some mothering

Lots of love xxx

tribpot · 13/06/2005 09:39

Ah, Lippy, this is indeed one of life's great mysteries. However, I checked my pregnancy book (the one the NHS give you) and it says the measurement is based on how much the mw can feel above the brim of the pelvic bone. So if she can feel 2/5 of the head that means 3/5 is in the pelvis and you are 3/5 engaged. And I quote "If all of the baby's head can be felt above the brim, this is described as 'free' or 5/5 'palpable'".

So I guess it really depends what your handheld notes say, mine say "Relation to brim" and 5/5th definitely meaning baby is freely floating its head around, mostly banging it against my bladder as far as I can tell! Charley, prob best if you check if your notes really say 4/5 engaged or 4/5 palpable ...

mogwai · 13/06/2005 10:12

Morning ladies

Vivid dreams all round. Last night I was topless in a turquoise bikini (well, just the bottoms) taking pictures with a waterproof camera. Wishful thinking. Another crappy night sleep. Why doesn't mother nature let us sleep so that we have the energy to give birth? Another of nature's jokes, along with getting "the dropsies" at a time in your life when you can't pick anything up from the floor?!!

Agree I'd choose Thailand - we had our honeymoon there, the food was wonderful and since then I always have a stock of fish sauce!

Am doing NOTHING for the next two days to ensure I don not go into labour before I've had my audience with that man in leather trousers. I totally agree that Mr Hutchence and Mr McGregor are/were equally acceptable in leather, though they did also have the height, whereas Mr Bono has to wear built-up shoes. Bless!

welshmum · 13/06/2005 10:14

Hello all,
BIG CONGRATS to the Mcmudda family - hope all's going well.
I seem to have carried on with the nesting post birth. Now I'm home full-time I've got time to spot all the stuff that needs doing. Am contemplating new curtains in the lounge as I spend alot of time on the sofa looking at them!
I know what you mean about the pg journey coming to an end Lippy but there's a whole other journey beginning on the post-natal thread with whole load of other topics to be considered.....stitches...bfing....sleep....hurry up and join us

Lua · 13/06/2005 11:35

HI everybody!
Sorry was so excited about bono and U2 that forgot to congratulate the Mcmudda and Scraggy family!
Good to hear from you charley! Hope linny let us know soon how she is doing....

Mogwai, I have two children now and stil want to go to india and thailand! I can also bore you for a whole night talking about how wonderful my kids are !

Jonah, are you still around? or have the baby decided to make an appearance?

Trib, hope you feel better soon, or better, hope all this back pain is you uterous working! When I was being induced, I was having contractions every 2 min. and the woman in front of me was lying down just complaining about a little period pain, backache. Weell, when I woke up the last morning, I went for another pessarie and she had her baby in hands!

tribpot · 13/06/2005 11:45

Lua, I wish I thought the back pain had a positive purpose, but as it disappears during the day, I think it is just an evil plot to stop me getting sleep

Hoping Jonah's off doing the biz, we seem to be having a little spell of girl Junies right now!

LipstickMum · 13/06/2005 12:13

Yeah Trib, I did think the 'engaged' thing would be more complicated than it seemed!! Oh well, I've just decided to ignore it as an indicator of impending labour anyway

Hiya Welshie it's funny how nostalgic one can get, I do have a tendency for it though I'll miss all our relatively carefree chats about chocolate, compared to what I know lies round the corner Obsessing about bfing, colour of poo, sleep, routines, development, sanity!!!! And this is coming from a woman who had a pretty easy time of it first time round!!

By the way Trib, I have taken control of my nesting by employing a cleaner and doing it myself. Just don't ask! She started last week and it's brilliant!

Time to go and do a little bit of not very strenuous nesting

JonahB · 13/06/2005 12:21

Hi All,

Still here!!!!!!!! Clearly I?m not going to be out of contact until Wed am and my induction.

Bubb, good luck with your back-ache. Hope this is a sign for you?

Charley, you are far too full of energy ? it?s not normal . Good to hear from you and that you are keeping well.

I've just had e-mails from two of the girls in my ante-natal class who were due after me and have both had their babies. I tried v. hard not to cry, but it was a struggle . Still, the end of this is in sight....

JonahB · 13/06/2005 12:25

Make that FOUR girls all due after me, who have now had their babies. Serves me right for logging on

tribpot · 13/06/2005 12:40

Oh Jonah. The little chimp just wants to make an entrance, s/he clearly has a flair for the dramatic. Not long to go now though, you can do it!

Lippy, my cleaner is the same age as me (well, 34) but has five children. So I'm now thinking "great, she can come round once a week and look after the baby whilst I do the cleaning for two hours, excellent".

Cooperoo · 13/06/2005 13:10

Hello all,
Well I have spent an hour up at the hospital today being monitored as my baby had a very slow heartbeat at my ante natal appt. Was v obviously slow (about 100) and quite scared me as nothing has gone wrong up till now. M/w actually said go in for monitoring and I should warn you they may need to take you to Limassol right away . She said it in a fab calming way and so I just did as she told me with a little tear. I am so lucky though as dh works right next to the med centre so I walked there and got him to come with me. All was fine thank goodness. They monitored me for a good 45 mins and both m/w's and the consultant were v happy with the readings. Baby was very active too while I was there. Actually it was really lovely to see its very obvious response to DH's voice and dd's when she arrived in the room after dh got her from creche. There was a marked difference.
The clinic (dare I say this) looks very positive for Thursday, so I have got to try to hang on. I am therefore doing nothing for the next two days. The midwives were funny too not doing very much palpitation and being very gentle going against all their principles and training lol, determined not to set anything off.
Jonah - Not long now. Put your feet up and watch a fave film and read a book etc till Wed. Thinking of you.
Lippy - Have decided my cleaner is doing my nesting for me.
Franni - Lol about house needing cleaning again now. That is how I feel about all the sheets etc that I washed.
Trib - Sounds like you will be able to reach an agreement with your cleaner .
Having queried my notes with my m/w when she writes 5/5 she means fully engaged and 4/5 nearly there. There is a discrepancy with this though.
Charley - great to hear from you and your fab long post. You do have far too much energy though. at the drunken squaddie too. Yes the lady involved in the crash lives in the next road to us.
I asked before about timing the gap between contractions, do you time from the start of one to the start of the other or the end of one to the start of the next. I can't remember what we did last time.
Right off now to get feet up. Bye for now.
