hi again, i decided to have a walk into town with one of my friends. and ended up buying DS some christmas bits so it was worth it and so much better than just sitting in. altho the chocolatre idea does sound good DIEGE

maxxymoosmummy · 28/09/2009 18:48

awwwww my DS just did the sweeest thing ever. he was paying with his toy, when the cow and gate advert came on. when he heard it he dropped his toy, and sat to watch it laughing at the babies with a big grin bless him.

idreamofbeanie · 28/09/2009 19:00

Hi,

quick question for you all. We have been given/lent 2 car seats. 1 is a M+P primo viaggio+base from my brother that he is in no rush to get back and the other is a maxicosi cabriofix which some friends have lent us until early January when they are due to have their second DC. DP has decided he hates the M+P seat (with or without the base) as it is too bulky and fiddly so he has claimed the maxicosy for his car and put the M+P in mine. The problem is my car is a tiny 3 door polo and it is a pain to get either seat in or out of the back - the M+P is a bit easier as it has the base which it clicks into but it is really heavy. I think I might stuggle to lift it out once the baby is in it so which do you think is the best solution

  1. I can just try not to use the car too much (I don't use it often now but guess that might change with a newborn in winter) and see how it goes with the M+P car seat.
  1. I could stick the car seat in the front in my car as I have no airbags but people still seem to suggest it is better in the back.
  1. We could get a base for the maxicosi and both use that seat which is much lighter and would be easier to lift in and out of my car but we only have it until January (although DP is already saying we might have to buy one then as he hates the M+P car seat).

Answers on a postcard please....

maxxymoosmummy · 28/09/2009 19:20

hmmm not sure what to suggest IDOB but i dont see hwy you wont be able to have the car seat in the front. it could be easier in the long run, as you can easily reach across if need be to put dummy back in etc ...
i have the M&P car seat and it is a little heavy and big. but you do get used to it as i did quite quickly.

idreamofbeanie · 28/09/2009 19:36

Cheers MMM, I think the M+P would be fine if my car was a 5 door or just a bit bigger. DP is just a whinge - he is really tall so has his seat right back and practically horizontal and he doesn't like the passenger seat being further forwards than his for some reason but the car seat won't go behind the passenger seat unless it is moved forwards a bit. He just likes to moan really .

Kayzr · 28/09/2009 19:39

I think I might have gone mad but I have decided to make my brother a Stay Puft Marshmellow man cake for his birthday!! Not until December but it will be so much fun!!

IDOB, we had the M&P car seat and we thought it was great. It is heavy but as long as you don't plan to carry it around a lot it is fine.

Diege · 28/09/2009 20:22

That cake does sound amazing KAYZ - you must post piccies when it's done. BTW, saving up for a bee here too - what colour are you going for then ps, did af ever show up? (sorry if I missed that!).
MMM sounds like you had a good day after all!
IDOB, clueless about carseats being a non-driver but can;t see the problem with seat in front if no airbag; after all the seat will be secure? Or is there another reason that they're normally in the back?

Kayzr · 28/09/2009 20:34

Nope no af at all here. I would like the Blue or Yellow!

bumpsnowjustplump · 28/09/2009 20:47

IBOT baby should not go in the front regardless of air bags. This is because of the safety issues... Most accidents are head on and so the front of the car takes the most impact and the dash board usually comes back into the seats...

Also baby should not be in the car seat for long periods so to carry them around in the car seat or use the car seats in a travel system is not a good idea, there has even been some link to the use of car seats as baby carriers causing death to young babies. So I would say use the M&P car seat in the back but leave it in the car and take baby to it. WE do that the car seat is in the car at all times and we take owen to it, this way we are not tempted to just leave him in the seat and I can manage to carry him when dp is not here...

Kay if you are planning on having another baby wont you need the P&T then? I would say keep it if I was you because otherwise you will need to get another double when the baby arrives...

Kayzr · 28/09/2009 21:02

When the new baby arrives DS2 will be nearly 3 so hoping to not need it. I doubt DH will let me have a bee anyway. But I might twist his arm. I just worry that they don't look very sturdy and that DS2 might be too big and heavy. Whereas the p&t is very stable and sturdy. I do love the p&t though. Argh. Decisions.

idreamofbeanie · 28/09/2009 21:08

Hi Bump - that was the plan as I don't want to leave the baby in the carseat but there isn't any way I could climb into the back and get the baby out of the seat with it on the base. There just isn't any room, its hard enough just to lift shopping out of the back. I was trying to see if I could just release it from the base then turn it sideways and lift the baby out but I'm not sure. I'll just have to see how I manage once the baby is here.

Kay - the cake sounds fab. Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

bumpsnowjustplump · 28/09/2009 21:15

IBOT try it now with a dolly... Seriously you are (how shall I put it) at your least mobile and least agile at the moment so if you can do it now with a dolly you can do it later with a baby...

Ours is on a base and when DP takes it in his car (only a 3 door corsa) we unclip it from the base and put it on the seat next to the base. Take owen out and put seat back ont he base.... it is possiable I assure you...

Kayzr · 28/09/2009 21:22

Do it IDOB!!! It could bring on labour!!

idreamofbeanie · 28/09/2009 21:29

Cheers Bump, that's the way I think I'll have to do it. I knew it wouldn't work on the base so I think I'll move it onto the seat and turn it towards the door.

Kayzr · 29/09/2009 07:43

Morning!!

AF is finally here!! YAY!!

I'm working 11am til 8pm. Not looking forward to being away from the boys for so long.

Hope you are all ok.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 29/09/2009 08:07

Morning- not stopping- my friend who i may end up being a surrogate for is coming over today!! It's quite exciting!! The house has managed to stay resonably tidy since all my hard work yesterday- we'd been out shopping all weekend so hadn't done a thing since the DC's were at school & nursery on friday!!

DS has claimed my ipod this morning which i'm not so i'm a bit as he turned it on and found florence and the machine album all on his own!!- That boy is getting way too clever!!

Got to cut Dh's hair when he gets homes tonight- he's off to his works conference tomorrow and is away for the night too. So as of tomorrow morning i'm alone till he gets back on thursday, about lunchtime. Oh well- i'll make the most of the bed to myself if nothing else!!

Right best dash- gotta brush teeth and hoover the stairs before we set off for the school run!!

tinksbiggirlhasstartedschool · 29/09/2009 10:21

morning

kay - yah for af
cant - good luck
idob - ye definetly put baby in the front we had a maxi cosi cabrio excellent!

just received last boden trousers for dd1 have gone for orange flared jeans they are really nice

i am starting to get anxioux again getting into school run etcd. dont think sitting around for the whole 8 weeks holidays helped. i hate change, i have been getting diarrhea!! had to take immodium last nite
sure i will be ok in a few weeks

Diege · 29/09/2009 11:26

Morning! (just) Ahh bless you TINKS, I also get quite anxious about things like school run etc, when there's some change to it (ie. new baby). I am currently stressing about going into work tomorrow with J. Have decided to take sling to avoid nightmare getting on/off train with the pram, but am now worrying that he won't sleep during lunch that we've got planned . No easy solution, but I think I'll go with the sling and just pray that he'll drop off in it
CANT, good luck with surrogate today, look forward to hearing how it all goes
KAYZ, also going for the yellow bee here. Hurrah for af!! dh had a dream last night that we (me and him) had twins and he had just about got resigned to it (he'd sorted out bedrooms etc in the new house)when he woke up It would be lovely to have a twin like gap (I think they call it irish twins??) like we did with dds 1 & 2, but realistically if there is to be a no.5 it will be when ds is 3 or 4, and tbh my eggs will be on the turn by then (I'll be 42/43 so nothing's guaranteed! Interestingly, my consultant told me that 50% of women in their 40s have the same fertility as they had in their 20s, while the rest struggle.
Right, enough rambling, must get e-bay stuff packed up (and your coat MOOS!!!!!!).

Starshinetiger · 29/09/2009 13:10

Just a quick post.
Thanks for your weaning info Bump - is inspiring. I started DD on purees, as she seemed hungry, but she definitely likes finger food. Started weaning her at 24 weeks very slowly then at 26 weeks started giving finger food too. Am now doing - finger food to start with, then when she gets frustrated at not getting satisfied, continue with purees (veg and fruit at the mo). We eat our cooked at lunchtime when DH is on a late, so for lunch she had a go at gluten free pasta, courgette and green beans followed by strawberries. Not a lot is going in tbh but she is having fun trying! Guess I will just continue with a combination and see how she goes. Having not much joy with brekkie - only thing she likes is fruit, but this morning I made myself porridge with oatmilk and water and stirred in some apple puree I've made for DD. She had some of it and it went down better than the baby porridge I've bought, so that's good news all round - only one brekkie to make for the two of us and it's a healthy one for me, which might (? hmm) aid my diet.

Yay for AF Kayz.
Am sure school run will get easier as you get into it Tinks.

IDOB - we have M&P car seat - SIL gave it to us for DS, so it is on it's 3rd child. Only one we've had (that comes out of car), so it's all we know. Admit when we had a 3-door it was more difficult, but think Bump's tips for that are good.

We have gone for ISOFIX car seat for next stage one for DS (which DD will be in soon) and will go for ISOFIX again for his next stage one.

Starshinetiger · 29/09/2009 13:15

Diege - meant to say, when I have taken DD on train, I've taken her in sling and had folded up McLaren with me - if brakes aren't locked, you can wheel it along behind or in front of you while it's folded, then you have buggy with you once you get there. Do you have a buggy this would work with? Every time I've gone into London with her, people have always offered to carry buggy up or down any stairs while it's folded, although tbh I have managed to carry it myself with the handle with her in sling. HTH.

Diege · 29/09/2009 13:22

Hi STAR, and thanks. I had thought of bringing along a buggy but only have a quinny zap that doesn't recline. Plus he can't sit up yet so would just sit there slumped over like a rag doll I have a quick change at Chester station and the lifts there are hit and miss, so weighing it all up am going for the 'screaming baby but we get there on time' option

maxxymoosmummy · 29/09/2009 13:26

afternoon everyone, hope everyone is ok

any news IDOB?
yes it did end up being a good day DIEGE looking forwardto thursday as i think im off to find some more christmas presents for DS

had a tough morning today with DS fighting his sleep, but he eventually dropped off at 1 so thats all good.

really should be doing some tidying but jus cant be bothered to move yet haha

essenceofSES · 29/09/2009 13:37

Hi!

Diege - ooh what if no5 was twins??!

Tinks - it seems that every new stage brings it's challenges. Hope everything - including your stomach - settles down soon.

IDOB - sounds like great advice from Bumps

Star - will await further updates on your weaning adventures. It sounds like you're doing similar to what I hope to do.

DS is still struggling with his gums. V clingy and dribbly and just not as happy as usual. I'm using teething gel and Ashton & Parsons granules with occassional Calpol. I'm sterilising the oral syringe before each dose. I guess that's still necessary at 20 weeks?

My mum has been back from her 2 week hols for 3 days and is already annoying me which is a shame as she can also be v helpful. Yesterday I was trying DS in a mothercare version of a Baby Bjorn and she commented that she sees them used by people with a newborn and then a toddler in a pushchair. She told me I wouldn't cope if I had another when O was still a toddler I think she means she wouldn't cope if I asked her to babysit both. I didn't tell her DH and I are planning ttc DC2 from next May! (oops! Did I say that out loud!)

Diege · 29/09/2009 13:43

Blimmin eck SES you slipped that one in at the end there! Excellent news, and yes you;re right, your mum couldn't cope: you will!
Not too sure about twins, though that would solve the even numbers thing I suppose
Hi MMM, ds fighting sleep here too, though finally dropped off about 40 mins ago. So I'm trying to fit in all the household stuff and achieveing nothing!

maxxymoosmummy · 29/09/2009 13:47

awww poor O hope they appear soon so that he doesnt have all this pain for much longer. think DS is teething a little more atm, as had a fairly bad night compared to normal and an unsettled morning. he seems to be dribbling alot, and chewing on his juice cup instead of drinking.

oooo hope all goes well next year with ttc ]grin]
