Glad I'm not the only one feeling dizzy - not pleasant. I was going to ask the midwife about it this afternoon. My blood pressure tends to be on the low side also.

Good luck to those with scans today!

fastasleep · 14/06/2005 14:43

At least we won't get pre-eclampsia

Jockey · 14/06/2005 15:44

Exactly fastasleep - there are some benefits to it!

fastasleep · 14/06/2005 17:42

Well I'm back from the scan... Sophia's kidneys are still swollen but only mildly... they want to re-scan at 30 weeks and do lots of tests after the birth (just like last time) she could have one of a few weird conditions and might need surgery, just like DS (although his kidneys were huge at this stage)...

I'm still hoping for a homebirth and if the condition stays mild I might be able to moan until they give me all her scans as an outpatient...but she will have to go to the children's hospital at least a couple of times..... Argh I think I'm cursed to watch my babies get poked and prodded and tubed and detubed whenever I give birth!! Also have a 1 in 200 risk of Downs now (yay) but I declined tests...

Sigh at least she seems wonderful apart from the kidneys, and it's not classed as really serious

~Hester can't wait to hear that you had a better day~

hester · 14/06/2005 20:45

Hi fastasleep, glad things are looking slightly more positive though it may be very difficult not knowing for sure.

Well, my scan was this morning and there was good and bad news. The good news: I'm expecting a girl! As you know, that was what I wanted, and I am completely thrilled. It has made her feel so very precious and real to me.

The bad news: she has club foot. Don't know the severity of this yet - I have to go to the Fetal Medicine Centre on Thursday for another scan and some medical advice.

Obviously I'm trying to keep this in perspective - there are so many worse things that could happen, and from what I gather club foot is very often correctable. But I do still feel upset. My poor little girl! I can't bear the thought of her having to spend months in splints or plaster or having surgery.

At the moment I feel very tired and rather weepy. But also fiercely protective of my little mite.

Joseyjo · 14/06/2005 21:26

hester & fastasleep - i don't know how to react to your news. hopefully all will be well with both of your little ones. i will be thinking of both of you.
my next scan is on friday, so i am in my normal worried state. then after friday, we are going on holiday for a week - i can't wait. i will add my request to jolovetts - please don't all chat too much while we are away, otherwise i won't get any work done at all in the following week!!

elf - i am planning to get the loola, i love it as you can have baby facing you, it is not too heavy and you can separate the seat from the chasis and put the two bits in the car separately. i am currently trying to find the best price in a shop (as opposed to internet prices) as i have heard all sorts of horror stories about ordering big stuff on the internet. apparently if you have a problem you have to discuss it directly with the manufacturer (including paying to send it back to them to have a look at!!!) which i just can't be bothered with. i would prefer to spend another £30 and know i can take it back if necessary. we will see anyway...

Moomin · 14/06/2005 21:49

Hester - thrilled for you about your little girl. I felt the same when they told me I was expecting dd (my 1st one) as I'd always wanted a little girl

Try not to worry yourself too much about her club foot - easier said than done I know. It's awful when you as a parent can't make things go away for your child but she's got a head start with you as a mummy to look after her. All the best xx

Moomin · 14/06/2005 21:51

Here's a link you might find useful. x

morningpaper · 14/06/2005 21:56

Just a quick scan of the recent goings on - Hester CONGRATS on having a girl, they RULE! Bit of a worry about the club foot (actually I don't know ANYTHNG about it) but seems a fairly small problem in the scheme of things. The main thing is, Girls rule!

Fastasleep: We had ALL SORTS of 'kidney problems' diagnosed on dd's scans but she was born completely healthy and fine. We decided (against the paed's wishes) not to have her on antibiotics from birth (in case of kidney problems). It was all fine. I think they are SUPER CAREFUL about things these days which just makes everything seem much worse than it is. I know it's hard not to worry though. xxx

morningpaper · 14/06/2005 21:59

Just read that clubfoot link - and remembered that dd (now I sound like I'm making this all up!) was diagnosed with talipes in both feet at birth. They did a few follow up checks and it corrected itself in a few months with no intervention. So mild cases can be nothing to worry about. Good luck hester! xx

Elf1981 · 15/06/2005 07:14

Joseyjo - we're getting our Loola from a local shop, same place as where we're getting the cot from. They just require deposits and arrange delivery closer to due date and keep it in store for when you want to collect. The woman who was showing it to us said they take back any prams with problems, but they'd never had a Loola back. She said they'd had a couple of M&P's back but probably due to the volume they sell.

Going to put deposit on it when my mum gets back off her hols in middle of July. Getting all excited. But, trying not to be too excited as suffering from awful heartburn. Had it for two days... oww owwww owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Any tips on what's the best to take?

bonniej · 15/06/2005 09:26

hi all, congratulations on having a girl Hester, Has anyone worked out the ratio of boy:girl on this thread yet? I'm sure girls are in the lead! I also have no experience of the problems you and fastasleep are facing but hopefully everything will work out well.

I get to 24 weeks on Saturday and have read in my bible (sorry, baby book) that's the time the baby becomes viable, ie if I were to go into labour there would be a chance of survival. Obviously don't want to do that but it feels like a bit of a milestone. My heartburn is getting worse and my backache is quite bad but other than that feel great. Anyone got any stretch marks yet? I'm smothering cocoa butter on bump and boobs as did this with dd1 and didn't get any. Didn't do it with ds and got a few small ones, so who know's it might help. Haven't got any yet but it's still early days. Good luck again to everyone with scans and let's try and enjoy the cooler weather as come August it's due to get hot, hot, hot !!!

jolovett · 15/06/2005 09:28

Sorry to hear the scans showed up some problems. My s-i-l dd had enlarged kidneys on her scans, and had to have loads of tests and antibiotics when she was born, but regardless of this she was still the happiest and healthiest little baby I have ever seen and still is now a year later. We have a very amusing photo of her 2 days old sitting on a foil container waiting for her to pee - she looks like a little xmas pudding!

fastasleep · 15/06/2005 09:46

Aww Hester a girl! That's brill, I have a friend who has a baby in casts, it's a different problem but the same sort of outcome...they do amazingly well and her little girl's the happiest little thing... we're both lucky (me especially) because these problems really aren't the worst they could be!

I know Sophia's is mild but they think she might have a repeat of what Theo had so she's not going to escape the tests (which are nasty!) I just hope she doesn't need an operation, but still as far as operations on major bits go it's not very risky! Feeling much better this morning, thanking god (fate or whoever!) that there isn't something seriously wrong

Actually I felt a bit of moo reacting badly to the news...DH's 2 year old cousin is having horrible chemo for a brain tumour at the moment I'm so lucky!!

fastasleep · 15/06/2005 09:47

Ooh heartburn yes the bain of the last bit of pregnancy! Just when you're enjoying being able to eat..bam! Acid milk, milk....and more milk seems to be the only thing that helps me.

fastasleep · 15/06/2005 09:55

~Sending hugs to Hester~

Lexie100 · 15/06/2005 10:42

Can't wait till my scan now (friday) but also alittle apprehensive. Have over done it this week and it's only wed am. Am tired and my bad mood is getting worse. Still not bought anything, will wait till scan gives the all clear then go on a massive shopping spree.

anyone else?

weather is bad here; but supposingly the saturday should give us a first taste of the coming heatwave!! so swimming cossies out

ds decided to wake up at 4am and wouldn't go back to sleep. 9am i finally managed to put him back down for a nap (after 40 min struggle!) - but he's still asleep

no plans for me today!

and wohoooo hester on your little girl!!!!!
sorry to hear about that 'little' problem! but science is so advanced nowadays, i know they'll sort it out really quickly ((((hugs))))

fastasleep: don't give up just yet. kidneys seem to have gotten better over the last few weeks, and who knows - maybe they'll improve even more - fingers crossed!!!!

symptomwise not much happening. pelvic bone is giving me gried; and i am checking my ankles every day for swelling (nothing so far 'touch wood'!) - just restless at nights

still can't decide on a pushchair!!!! haven't bought anything so far. well, almost - went to a carboot last week and got a few lovely pink/lilac clothes for bubs. (can't have her in boys clothes all the time ) - and a cute little rabbit musical thingy - but that's it!!!

OP posts:
bonniej · 15/06/2005 11:02

I haven't a clue which pushchair to get. I'd like a travel system as found the one with dd really easy, not having to wake her when she fell asleep in the car. DD will be 2 years and 3 months when dd2 is born and she walks nearly everywhere now so wasn't going to bother with double buggy, toddler seat for her. Someone has since told me that when they see the new baby in the buggy, they want to sit in one too, so am now looking for a travel system with a toddler seat! Any ideas anyone??

jessicasmummy · 15/06/2005 12:13

still going with the Implast Twin Classic for my two cherubs... i like the idea that they can face me and i can keep an eye on jess.... just to make sure she doesnt try and strangle the baby or anything!!!

£300 is a lot of money for it, but am gonna try and sell the double urban detour ive got....

Jockey · 15/06/2005 12:52

Congratulations Hester on your little girl . Sorry to hear of the problems but best of luck tomorrow for that other scan. Hope things improve for you too fastasleep.

It certainly does look as if girls are in the lead on this thread - you can add me in for a girl too.

I've no idea about buggies yet. I had a tandem with my first two but as the baby got older she would sit up and pull ds1's hair! I abandoned this for a cheap side by side stroller which fitted into the car much easier. The tandem is now used for pushing several dollies around the garden. Of course things have moved on a great deal since then and the choice is totally mind boggling! I'm following your comments with great interest....

mawbroon · 15/06/2005 17:48

Hello everyone. Fingers crossed for Hester and Fastasleep that everything will turn out ok in the long run.

Add me on the list for a boy!

Nothing to report on the bump front except that a bird shat right on my bump on the way to the train station I understand that a bird depositing on you is supposed to be good luck. I can just hear myself telling my child that "it must have been that bird pooing on you when you were a bump" that brought you such good luck.

DH and I are practising becoming parents by tutting at the terrible music in the charts and other such things......

It has finally stopped raining here, but no doubt it will only be for a short while.

triceratops · 15/06/2005 18:29

Put me down for a girl (much to the disgust of ds).

Fastasleep - I'm glad that Sophia's problem appears to be mild, maybe it will go away completely.

Hester - sorry to hear about your little mites foot. It is not nice to have to worry about something hurting your baby.

Mawbroon - if bird poo is lucky I must have the luckiest car on the planet. There are about six birds nests in the tree on our drive. Yuck.

I am not going to get excited about pushchairs/prams/travel systems. Where I live every other person seems to have a bugaboo or a stokke. Such a waste of money, I am not going to try and compete with that. I am looking forward to getting a nice snuggly sling from brightspark slings.
