Not sure I am any more qualified, frankly, but hey ho!!

OP posts:

2happy I'm sorry to hear your DH will be in plaster for weeks, but, sat on by a cow? It made me choke on my doritos!

Pops crossing everything for your DH

I've had the hardening uterus thingy, wondered if it might be braxton hicks but I'm just a first timer and I thought I was being thick .

mawbroon · 07/10/2009 21:17

2happy - LOL at your dh being sat on by a cow!! But not so lol at his injury. I hope he's ok and it heals soon.

I am enjoying being pg again, but rarely have time to give it much thought tbh.

And I am not enjoying the headache and sore ears that I have right now. Paracetemol is just not doing it for me right now...

fiziwizzle · 07/10/2009 23:11

Pops best of luck to your DP. What a terrible worry. But hopefully he will be fine.

2happy my sympathies to your DH and to you for having to put up with him being at home...

I've had the Braxton Hicks too, or at least that's what I assumed it was. It's such a strange sensation!

I'm loving being pregnant at the moment. I think I'm full of happy pregnancy hormones and I don't really give a monkeys about work or anything else, in fact I'm counting the days until Christmas when I'm stopping. Can't wait. My only concern is that I'm eating too much and gaining too much weight - I know that if I'm concerned, then I should stop eating cake - but it's become a bit of a habit now, after a lifetime of being strict wtih myself about what I eat. I am PILING on the pounds though. Thank goodness MW don't weigh us at our appointments any more, mine would have a fit.

TheOldestCat · 08/10/2009 09:03

It's lovely to read everyone's good news following scans.

pops - like the others have said, hope your DH is fine and it turns out to be nothing serious.

2happy - am wondering how the cow-sitting episode occurred. Is DH a vet or a farmer?

Another hardening uterus here - I remember this from last time, so it's quite normal.

Have good days all. I've made the terrible error of logging onto Mumsnet before starting work; that never ends well.

Clappedout · 08/10/2009 09:31

There seems to be lots of joy about in this thread, so great to read, long may it continue!

I too am loving being pregnant, would love it even more if I wasn't working, three more months to go.

I have just about grown into my maternity band now, it's so comfy and keeps the bump warm too.

Thinking of braving an NCT sale this weekend, any one else taken the plunge?

Starting to get the fear about the birth after the last time. Any third or fourth time Mums out there who can tell me secodn time around is easier????!

pops so sorry to hear about your DH, a horrible time to be worried about this, hope you've had some better news by now.

Lots of king foo goin on in my belly, the torpedo movement definitely a fave at night too, my belly looks lopsided!

FluffyCoo · 08/10/2009 10:33

Morning all!

Thanks v much for your sympathies re my "Jeremy Kyles" - right back atcha fellow sufferers... the things we women go through eh?! Anyone else getting really sore ribs too? I feel like I've been bear hugged by the Incredible Hulk!

Let us know how you get on with the NCT sale clappedout - I'm going to one next weekend and it'll be good to get your take on it!

threeplusone · 08/10/2009 11:01

POps hope you DP is ok xxx edning you big hugs hun xx

Just done some xmas shopping online.. remembered to write a list as to what I have bought the children so that I dont go too OTT.. Have also bought some baby clothes.. vests sleepsuits, snowsuits, all in white and cream. I have been putting it off I keep going to do the order then deleting it but thought.. no this time I will do it and I have.. I was telling my friend last night I just dont feel right buying yet, I have no idea why!! WHich is why I made myself buy the things.. I am hoping everything turns up whilst DH is away so that he doesnt see all the pressies for the kids bfore xmas day!! and he will be too excited to complain to me about the cash ..lol

Cant remeber who was saying about the birth, but I am getting anxious about it too.. I know it will be fine and you forget the pain etc.. it is the after pains I am dreading.. I only got them after DC3.. I am hoping for another quick labour.. but I suppose we will find out in Feb.

Hope everyone is well Take care all xx

chinook · 08/10/2009 12:03

Morning all.

pops really sorry to hear about your dp. Fingers crossed everything is ok.

2happy ouch! Am with you on having your dp home though. Mine has been having a much needed break between projects and has been home for a couple of weeks. We had an argument about a jar of mango chutney the other day so I definitely think it is time for him to be back at work!

I have just come back from the gp's armed with an enormous bottle of Gaviscon. No prizes for guessing what my current ailment is.

I am definitely enjoying being pregnant more at the moment. Physically though I do find it tough. I still have periods of nausea and have realised that because of my mc's I have spent over 40 weeks of the last year pregnant, and have gone through the dreaded 1st trimester 3 times. I have had enough!

I too have started to think about labour again now the second scan is out of the way. I did it with just gas and air last time but will definitely go for an epidural this time if I feel I need it.

Good luck to anyone with a scan coming up.

mawbroon · 08/10/2009 13:51

I am currently in bed with a raging ear infection.

DS is safely away with sister in law until 6.30pm tonight and I have the luxury of being able to take to my bed.

I have antibiotics, paracetemol, warm wheat bag for on my ear, and it is too bloody painful to sleep despite having been up with it since 4am.

TheOldestCat · 08/10/2009 13:59

Ouch that sounds rotten, mawbroon. I hope the antibiotics kick in really soon.

Chinook - you poor thing going through the first trimester three times. I'm sorry for your losses.

I'm also a gaviscon swiller - thank god for it. It's also great to read 'you CAN take this medicine if you're pregnant'. Makes a change.

Another one starting to think about the birth here. I'm reading 'Ina May's guide to childbirth at the moment', it's great. Has anyone else read it?

2Happy · 08/10/2009 18:22

Sorry!! Yes, dh is a vet - think James Herriot and you can probably work out how a cow sitting down would squish an arm!! However, the ortho consultant's verdict was not broken!! We finished at the clinic at lunchtime and as soon as we got home he was back off to work. And - in a hormonal and impossible to please way - I'm sad it wasn't broken and he's not home any more Still, look on the bright side, he can do the washing up now

Get well soon, mawbroon, hope your sil thoroughly tired ds out so you get a lie in??

Chinook - 40 weeks out of a year pregnant with another ~20 to go - that's some thought! Arguing about mango chutney - definitely time to go back to work!!

3+1- noooooo! Don't talk about christmas shopping!!! My childminder's got all hers done and is about to start the wrapping. I just know I'm going to be as disorganised as ever again.

fluffycoo - no sore ribs yet, but had them both times before so give it time!

Clappedout - it's definitely supposed to be easier 2nd time round. Mine wasn't, but I've always been contrary , but my Mum's and both my sisters' seconds were (comparatively speaking) doddles.

chinook · 08/10/2009 19:27

mawbroon that sounds awful. I have suffered with ear drum problems and think earache is one of the worst types of pain. I think it is because you can't actually get to the source of it to rub it and make it feel better. Hope you feel better very soon

AngelaCarleen · 08/10/2009 21:33

Mawbroon sorry to hear about your ear infection, hope you start feeling better soon.

I forgot to put in my post yesterday, I got a bottle of gaviscon from the minor ailments service at boots pharmacy, okay so it's only 300ml, but is saved me having to fight with old wifey's and their corns for an appointment at the docs .

I'm starting to think about the birth aswell, but I have the good fortune of being a first timer so blissfully unaware of what the pain is actually like (and I'm quite happy in my state of ignorance so please don't feel the need to enlighten me ).

2happy maybe thats a trick we should all start using when the obs docs try to examine us

gingerkirsty · 08/10/2009 22:28

Hello ladies

Mawbroon get well soon I hope you are being well looked after.

OldestCat I LOVE Ina May - have read Spiritual Midwifery and am not letting anyone's horror stories make me have negative thoughts about the birth process - I am looking forward to it! She is amazing isn't she?

Clappedout we are thinking of the NCT sale this sat too - are you in Bristol by any chance? Might not end up going tho as DH is a bit nervous of buying too much stuff for some reason...

I am also loving the second trimester - got a proper nice bump now, (in fact this wk it has suddenly started to actually stick out further than my humungous boobs!), she is kicking me all the time which is lush, I am having Braxton hicks at least once a day... all brilliant! On the downside I too have the Jeremys and am on the pink potion... but I really can't complain TBH!

Baba due 4 months today

Hi, I am not on the list either and due 7th of feb. Had a very long and complete scan last evening for 1h30...She wasn't in the mood to be woken up (she is a morning person!!) and was face to my back (lots of probing and pushing in by the doc ). Everything is fine . I don't remember things being so detailled with my first 5 years ago.
I hope everybody else is fine too.
I am also over morning sickness and extreme exhaustion, except that for some odd reason brushing my teeth still make me gag and I keep falling asleep during "House" (start at 21h . My night cramps disappeared for now due to switching sparkling mineral water to flat spring water (???) and I thought that minerals help. (Thanks for all your advices by the way)

woowa · 09/10/2009 16:34

shiregirl and mamaloco - i just copied the list into my post and added self - i hope that's the "done thing"!!

2happy - oh i was thinking maybe farmer - my dad (and now brother - and come to think of it, grandpa) spend/spent most of their lives with a hand up a cows rear end or milking its rear-end. To the extent that when I hear the word "mastitis" i think "cow problem", NOT something I'll ever get!

I have read the helpful NHS book which says that the hard uterus is indeed braxton hicks contractions! I've spent my life thinking that BHs and feeling baby move is something that happens right near the end, not at 22 weeks which I am now!! DH was v worried yesterday when I had Braxton Hicks for half an hour after...umm...ahem, sex...and I was quite surprised myself!!! All these lovely new experiences.

Sorry if TMI!

ktpie · 09/10/2009 16:50

Mamaloco - teeth brushing makes me gag as well.

2Happy - glad your DH didn't break his arm.

Mawbroon - hope your ear infection is getting better.

I had a rubbish nights sleep last night, couldn't get comfortable, my back and ribs were aching, I'm not even that big yet!

I'm quite chilled out about the birth this time, managed it last time!

FluffyCoo · 09/10/2009 18:06

Eek, Mawbroon ear infections are such misery - I do hope you feel better very soon!

ktpie I'm having the same as you with the night-time discomfort - DH put his arm across my rib cage to give me a cuddle the other night and I nearly hit the roof! My bump is a bit on the big side though. Thinking about getting one of these huge pregnancy pillow thingies - anyone used one before? Any good...?

I veer between terror and calm resignation when I think about the birth - being a first timer I too think that perhaps ignorance is bliss right now!! I think I'd quite like to just stay at this point of pregnancy, feeling LO's wriggles, but not having to face up to the fact that he/she will be a mad toddler > stroppy teenager one day!!!

grin · 10/10/2009 15:49

Hello all
Sorry to hear about ear infections/injuries/delightful swellings (love the new name for them by the way, I laughed out loud when I read 'Jeremys' for the first time!)/nighttime discomforts. And despite all this on the whole we are feeling great and being all positive!

Hadn't heard of Ina May, what's her general theme?

Shiregirl I am absolutely with you on the roast dinners, and even better are the cold roast potatoes the next day...yum.

Has anybody got/used a bump support? I have noticed I've been holding my bump up a bit towards the end of the day, poss because I'm on my feet a lot. I see in the Blooming Marvellous catatlogue that came through the other day there are two sorts, a sort of under the bump one and one which covers the bump. Any thoughts or opinions?

Enjoy your weekends all.

ktpie · 10/10/2009 20:19

I slept much better last night so hopefully it was a one off (for now!).

FluffyCoo - I got a v-shaped pillow last time. Mine was from Dunelm and a lot cheaper than the ones aimed at pregnant/nursing mothers. This compared to this. It was good for support in pregnancy and great when breastfeeding as well, had better dig it out. Did you mean the big long pillows? I'd be a tad wary that you could do the same thing with a couple of normal pillows, but as you can see I'm a cheapskate!

grin - I had one of these last time near the end, my bump was really hurting if I was on my feet for too long and the support did help. Another thing to try and find!

Hope all these links work, I've got a bit carried away. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekends.

grin · 10/10/2009 20:35

Thanks ktpie, that's useful to know. Think I may treat myself (self-confessed cheapskate here too!).

I second ktpie on the v pillow too, mine was from Argos I think for a similar price. Great for feeding and it's already the extra inhabitant of our bed (and has been for weeks now). Takes a bit of wiggling to get comfy on/with it but great.

bethylou · 10/10/2009 20:50

Hi folks,
Have been on and off the computer for the last few weeks due to continuing tiredness and nausea in the evening caused by using the computer!

Had scan and found out we are having another DS which is very exciting, if somewhat scary, as DS1 is currently driving me nuts - climbing furniture; pinching any child who comes within a metre and generally testing my parenting skills to the limit!! How will I cope with two?!!

Glad to hear scans are going well. For those of you worrying about first-time birth: I had the longest active labour that my hospital would allow without intervention and I look back and think it was ok. Hoping it might be a bit shorter this time though!!

pyjamababe · 11/10/2009 18:25

Hello Can I join please? Not sure what has taken me so long to find you all here in the ante-natal area - didn't know it existed. Pregnancy brain? I'm 21 weeks today, had a 20 week scan on Tues which was very exciting.

My hobbies currently include eating Hagen Daaz, iced buns and drinking chocolate horlicks. I am trying to hold off buying baby stuff but I do like browsing the nursery furniture section of Mamas and Papas online.

Evening all and pyjamababe welcome. I am very envious of your cravings. Mine are very boring and mainly involve apples and grapes. Despite this though my weight is shooting up at an alarming rate. It must be fluids right??

Is anyone else feeling really tired? I only sleep for 3 hours max at one time before I wake up in need of the bathroom. I remember this from 30+ weeks last time and not 20+ weeks. Someone asked about those long pillow things. I splashed out on one from the Bump to 3 website. It is made by Nattou and wasn't cheap. It is a bean bag rather that a cushion which I prefer and it is so comfy to use at night and also as support when reading in bed or watching TV. It also converts to a really cute baby nest/arch thingy. I love it and am not a salesperson I promise.

watercress went to Kidspace on Friday and really liked it. The toddler area was very noisy so we avoided it and just used the over 5's bit. Dd (and dp) had a great time and I even managed a fair bit of climbing. Think we would avoid it during the school holidays though and agree with you that it is quite pricey.

Sorry everyone for the hijack. Hope you are all well and blooming.
