Not sure I am any more qualified, frankly, but hey ho!!

Thanks for the welcome chinook! I am jealous of your cravings!! Bathroom scales are being hidden in the attic in my house as I have totally gone off salad and exercise since the end of May and today have eaten profiteroles, white choc mousse cake and a slice of lemon meringue pie - it was my dad's birthday party and I have no control when faced with a pudding selection. Must try harder tomorrow

Clappedout · 12/10/2009 09:48

Welcome pyjamababe, with you on the chocolate horlicks, even at work, mmm.

Gingerkirsty the NCT sale was in Wansted, London. Did you go to yours? I braved it and it was quite an ordeal, in a very crowded and hot church hall, total bedlam but pretty well organised. I even managed to get a few things I need.

Suddenly got the urge to get everything ready, knowing I will not have the energy in a few months. Still debating the 2nd child buggy dilemma with DP whi is loathed to part witha fortune for a P&T, e-baby here we come.

Have to have an extra scan this week to check for 'dopplers', something to do with the blood flow to the uterus, anyone else heard of this? Not something that came up last time.

Off to Qatar on Saturday with DD 22 mths on our laps for 7 hr flight, not looking forward to it...

Hope there's lots more blooming going on.

gingerkirsty · 12/10/2009 14:19

Hi clappedout - the sale started at 1, with members being admitted from 12.45. Not surprisingly I couldn't find out membership cards anywhere so after a slight panic we arrived at 12.55 to find an ENORMOUS queue - we stood in it for a bit but it wasn't moving so decided that with 4 whole months to go we'd wait til next time! We will def be arriving VERY early for the next one, and possibly bringing a flask of tea and a blanket to sit on - seriously, it was like Russia!!!

I thought a doppler was the device used to listen to the baby's heartbeat, but there you go!!! Good luck with scan. More luck with flight too! I am sure you will find a P&T second hand - have u looked on ebay too? You can always look for local ones on there.

I have now put on almost a stone, basically made up of bump and boobs so am hoping I won't get too chubby anywhere else - I am not having any cravings and I don't feel like I'm being too bad food wise so fingers crossed. Bump v neat and baby lovely and active which is really reassuring. Only having to get up once a night for weeing at this stage which is not too bad!

Hope everyone else is feeling good

Hello all,

shiregirl and mamloco, I have added you to the list!

Mawbroon, how are you doing? And chinook, glad you enjoyed kidspace. Maybe I need to try it again as it's been ages (I went not long after it opened).

Very jealous that so many of you have had your scans. I haven't got mine until next week by which time I'll be 23 weeks. I'm very curious to find out the sex so DH and I can start the name argument discussion.

I'm keeping well, but have a manic week ahead with DD's 3rd birthday and Diwali on the same day. We're having a big family party (DH and I both have large families so a small family party is never on the cards), which will be lovely, but I've made a list of all the things I need to do and it's massive. So if I go quiet for a while, I'll be the one missioning!

Sleeping much better though, which is a massive relief. Anyone struggling with walking and breathlessness? It's nothing awful, it's just I don't remember it at this stage from my last pg and I'm conscious that I've got a way to go.

Ooh, very long post, I'd better go...

Hi everybody,

Thought I'd update the list, as I hadn't put that it's our first.

Am on a bit of a high today after my scan this morning! It all went really well and bubs is very low, which explains the pressure on my bladder and, like a lot of you, my constant need for the loo in the night. We decided we didn't want to know the sex, but the sonographer said she was pretty much 100% sure of what it was, so I'm now convinced it's a boy. We shall see!

We went to NCT nearly new sale last week (decided to go before scan, as next one isn't until March and now glad we did). We were advised to get there 1/2 hr before the members only entry time and get in the queue, then pick up anything that we thought we might want and sort it through over a cup of coffee. It was fab! Everyone was lovely (I thought it might be handbags at dawn) and we got loads of stuff for next to nothing including a newish Babybjorn carrier and fleece cover, new babygrows and vests, baby nest/zoo thing, several maternity tops and a new Bumbo. Being at the front of the queue is definitely the way forward as we got to look round when it was quite quiet while everyone else was still paying to get in. Bring on the Baby show on Sat! We're hoping to check out some prams, but thinking that we'll get the Bugaboo Bee on recommendation from several friends. Have a secret desire for a traditional Silver Cross Balmoral, but it would be totally impractical.

Welcome Pyjamababe and others. You're due the day before me and your diet sounds pretty similar too. I can't get enough puddings! Good luck to those few who still have scans to come.

pyjamababe · 12/10/2009 20:03

Evening All,
Managed the whole night without a wee last night (hurrah) but woken up at 3ish with heartburn - never had that before but OUCH! Pudding-related I feel so will have to scale back a bit. Can you take anything if it does return? Anyone know? Just sipped water but wondered if gaviscon or a rennie is safe when pg?

Also, anyone trying to keep fit? If so how? I have Davina/ Erin O'Brien DVDs and occasionally walk the dog. Will maybe swim on maternity leave but absolutely no time for that now. Struggling to be bothered tbh but worried I will regret that come Feb...

Clappedout I have my own jumbo sized jar of choc horlicks at work with a sticky label on it with my name

chinook · 12/10/2009 20:11

pyjamababe both rennies and gaviscon are fine to take during pregnancy. I got a prescription for gaviscon last week from my gp, which will save me a fortune as we can get prescriptions free. Lots of pregnant women end up drinking it straight from the bottle by the end of their pregnancy. Now there's a cheerful thought....

threeplusone · 12/10/2009 21:13

gingerkirsty- The Doppler scan is check the bloodflow from you to the baby, I have to have them due to when I was pg with my daughter I had placenta insufficiency and when pg with my DS1 I have notching on the left uterine artery.. so with DS2 and this pg I was given them as a matter of course..
I think I will be given one at my next scan when I will be just over 25 weeks.. but I am normally scanned every 4 weeks anyway so they can keep an eye oon things.

But when they do the doppler you can here the blood wooshing in, and the screen shows the blue and red for the blood going to and away from the baby it is interesting to watch.. They also but it up and it looks like a ctg trace but instead of the heart moving with the graph it is the blood flow.

HTMS.. I am waughling sorry..

Feeling really low at the mo and not sure whether or not to go to the docs to try and get to see a cpn, i have a history of depression and really dont want it returning.. it pisses me of as I know the cause of it and every so often it comes back and hits me full force in the face... but I feel silly going to the docs etc as I feel they dont give a damn.. and think I am silly.. I do know really this isnt the case but that is how i feel.. will have to see how I feel in the morning, and see if they can fit me in for a chat....
Sorry..

Talce care everyone.xx

motherof2boys · 13/10/2009 09:20

3+1 - You should see your dr as depression is a medical condition as much as other things.

If you know where the depression comes from then is it worth looking at the cause? I hope you understand what I mean and I am no medic - I don't want to oversimplify.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Lots of love.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 13/10/2009 09:39

Hi all, I keep popping in and out but I'm back for good now. Have most people found out what they're having? I'm having a very kicky girl. All is well. I'm 21 weeks now

I'm off work today with a head cold- going in later this afternoon though Could do with a couple of days off but can't afford it.

How are people coping with bumps and toddlers?

Clappedout · 13/10/2009 10:01

threeplusone sorry to hear you are feeling down, think it is especially hard as you are expected to be full of joy about the baby. I had quite bad anxiety last time and was referred to local perinatal psychiatric service at hospital, they were great. Not sure if you have a similar set up where you are?

I have a doppler scan on Wednesday as they picked up low PAPP, whatever that means, in my bloods. What happened when they found the notching with you? Just extra monitoring? My baby is normal size so far so I am trying not to worry too much....

Sorry for slight hi-jack, hard to resist.

fiziwizzle · 13/10/2009 10:04

I'm getting very breathless when I walk, I have been for a couple of weeks. I thought it must be far too early for the lungs to be squashed but apparently it's because the heart and lungs are already working 50% harder - amazing, isn't it?!

I've started getting indigestion for the first time in my life - well I assume that's what it is - a strong pain just under my breastbone after I eat occasionally. I guess I may pay the doctor a visit for some gaviscon...

I'm getting up each night two or three times to wee. Anyone else this bad? I suppose it gets worse?!

3+1 you're not silly for going to the doctors about your depression, if you think that they can help then you should definitely seek that help. Good luck.

watercress · 13/10/2009 11:37

fiziwizzle sorry you're getting out of breath too, but it makes me feel a bit more normal (anyone else looking in the mirror and thinking "I look awful... again"?).

threeplusone, I think you should definitely go the doctor if you are feeling blue and have a history of depression. If they make you feel you are silly, ask for a referral to someone with experience in this kind of thing as that is a shocking attitude on their part.

totally hello! Good news from your scan!

And welcome pyjamababe. Gaviscon is fine, unless you have high blood pressure when the sodium content can become an issue.

Everyone sounds like they are really getting organised with NCT sales and Christmas presents. I've still got to sort out Diwali presents for about 20 members of my family and it's next weekend!

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 13/10/2009 11:58

Is anyone doing antenatal classes if they're on their second baby? We have the evening classes or the full day in this area, and I went to evening last time, but apparently full day is better so I'm tempted to go there.

Threeplusone- I have postnatal depression and my GPs will not give me my antidepressants while I'm pregnant. It's left me in a bad way so I can totally sympathise with depression. They are sending me for counselling, so could maybe do the same with you, too?

fizi and watercress I'm breathless too but I thought that was being overweight and far too many creamcakes and crisps this pregnancy!

FluffyCoo · 13/10/2009 13:07

Afternoon all!

Thanks ktpie, grin and everyone else for info re pregnancy cushion/nest arrangements - I shall definitely be making a trip to my local Dunelm! Top tip! Can't be doing with forking out the vast sums of money for a "proper" one either

Fizi and watercress, ditto on the breathlessness, I too thought it was just down to my total lack of fitness - took my young Nephew to Legoland at the weekend and even the slightest incline had me puffing like Ivor the Engine! Rubbish! I have found that yoga helps a bit though - am going to a class every week and I find that my entire midsection feels so much less congested afterwards.

Anyone off to Earls Court for the baby show this weekend? Am hoping that I will finally be able to make up my mind about which pram to get... so confused!

threeplusone · 13/10/2009 13:17

thank you all.. didnt see the doc as dont feel too bad this morning going to see how I feel over the next few days.. luckily my DH is good at listening to me.. but he goes away for 5 weeks on sat!! I think I am anxious abiut him going away again.. which isnt helping.. TBH I think alot of it is feeling lonley.. I phoned home last night to speak to mum and I get upset everytime as she really doesnt seem interested.. other than my DD.. when I talk about ds I get blah blah does this and blah b;ah does that.. they are necer to young.. blah blah listens when we tell her off.. she is 14months older than my DS2 and should be listening !! sorry for the rant.. It goes alot deeper than that but that is the jist..
I just feel like we are forgotten about because we dont see them as often etc.. Never mind I have my kids and DH and they have me and at the end of the day that is what is important!!!

Sorry..

RE the dopplers yes they just kept on eye in them for the rest of the pg.. witrh DC3 I was given one indepth doppler scan at 24weks and this was clear and I had good growth so no more needed. With DD I had very slow growth from 30weeks which is when the placenta started to slow down.. but she also had very little fluid.. 1cm max.. so there were a few issues with her.> But even when my mum was pg with me she had placenta insufficiency too..

Hope everyone is ok and enjoying there little ones kicking and rolling about.. I know I am xx

FluffyCoo · 13/10/2009 22:27

Hey 3+1. Sorry to hear you're having such a crap time of it, especially since it sounds like you're not getting much support from those you would really hope to receive it from - I think you can easily be forgiven for having a rant!! I hope you manage to find a way through... x

AngelaCarleen · 13/10/2009 23:08

3+1 sorry to hear you're feeling low and lonely. I felt like that a few weeks ago with DH away. The kitty and bunny are nice but there's only so much talking to them I can do without looking like a loon . Hope you start to feel better soon .

My Bean has demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of my need for a snooze button this week. Started doing star jumps this morning and yesterday as soon as I pressed it .

My DH is home on monday (hopefully) after 18 weeks away. So, after a short period of relaxation for him, we're hitting the shops! I can't wait, I also have an urge to get everything sorted out . He's quite excited about the baby socks my mum bought us . He's also been informing me about 'pram envy' and seems to be basing the pram choice on that. I think I might invent 'handbag envy' . Anyone else's other halves coming out with anything silly? I'll not even mention him asking what kind of high chair we need, and being shocked that we don't need one straight away. Ooops, just did .

pyjamababe · 14/10/2009 07:42

Well, my dh told me I looked like a snake that had swallowed a sheep the other day - that was pretty silly Said he meant it as a compliment!!

I can't face the thought of shopping until January - am I making a massive mistake? Was thinking it would get Christmas out of the way and I'd be on maternity leave by then but can also now see I may be too enormous/tired to manage it then (imagines what she may look like when swallowed an elephant...)

watercress · 14/10/2009 10:05

Angela, your DH has been away 18 weeks? My lord, I'm not surprised you're fed up of chatting to the animals!

Pyjamababe, I think you have to shop when you feel like it - if you are worried about waiting until January and being too tired, then make a start now. But if it will add stress to an already busy schedule, then wait. Or how about a middle option? Have a look now, then buy via the internet when you start mat leave as hopefully there will be sales on, and you'll be home to take delivery? That's what I did last time (though I was very lucky to acquire most of the stuff I needed).

Threeplusone, how are you doing today?

watercress · 14/10/2009 10:14

Oh, and Mawbroon are you feeling better?

mawbroon · 14/10/2009 14:29

Hi girls. Sorry, been out of the loop for a while with this bloody ear infection. I am feeling a lot better, but not 100% yet. My eardrum has perforated, so i am pretty deaf on one side which is very disorientating and stressful in noisy situations. I am sure it will heal in time, but it's a pain in the arse tbh.

I have my scan tomorrow, and other than that, I haven't been paying a whole lot attention to this baby. Plenty of kicks etc, so I am sure everything is fine. DS is complaining that there's hardly any milk for him. I managed to squeeze a bit out and it was definitely yellow, so I think my colostrum is probably starting to come in already.

Friday is my last day of work, then we are all off for a week for the tattie holidays. Hooray!!

I haven't really read the thread properly, and am just snatching a min while ds is occupying himself. Hope I haven't missed anything mega important!

threeplusone · 14/10/2009 16:04

Angela.. hope hubby gets back on monday... I think my brother is due back about then too..
Is he getting his full POTL...
DH should be home tonight before going back tto the UK on saturday. Should be grateful really that he didnt deploy again this time with his regt..

Baby has been kicking all day today.. which makes me smile.. I even felt one with my hand.. which through the amount of extra weight I carry I was surprised..lol. Awaiting piccies form home as my cousins wife had a baby two weeks ago I think, really looking forward to seeing her.

Cant wait to get the pram ordered so that I can stop stressing about it and chopping and changing my mind.. I do want the Loola but keep looking at the german prams and think mmmmm.. but they are really big and bulky.. Loola it is, think we are going to go for the starlight grey, as I am not a fan of the oxygen red with it being shiny.. but then I keep thinking grey is boring.. but nice.. and red is vibrant and bright. But no will stick woth the grey!!!!.. I am soo indecisive it is untrue.. and DH just says what ever you want darling.. aslong as it doenst cost over blah blah..

Is anyone else shocked at how fast the time seems to be going.. I cant believe I am over 22weeks already.. By the time DH gets back I will only have 12 weeks left.. and with xmas, new year my bday.. it will fly over.

Right must go and feed my tribe they are all mummy is it ready I am hungry....

Take care all and thank you for your kind words.. xxxx

Clappedout · 14/10/2009 16:34

Oh no, I have 'bilateral notches' on the arteries to my womb, saw the consultant today. Means 4 week scans and daily aspirin from now on and increased chance of pre-eclampsia and slow fetal growth. I am trying to be calm but not easy, prone to worrying anyway.I didn't have this last time though did have pre-eclampsia right at the end. I was so hoping for an easy ride this time.

I hope no-one else has this issue, it's usually picked up by now and I'm told it can get better as the weeks go on, here's hoping....

AngelaCarleen · 14/10/2009 18:02

3+1 he's got 4 weeks off, one of those is his r&r week that they decided not to give them until they were already home . I suspect after a week I'll be ready to murder him (much as I love him he drives me mad eg. DH 'I'm bored' Me 'what do you want to do?' DH 'nothing', grrrr ). Hope the next 5 weeks go quick for you x

We're going to pram-centre to buy our pram. We have a short list so we'll have a look round and test drive them round the shop a bit and then just pick one!

Clappedout hope you manage not to worry too much (although I suspect I'd be a jibbering wreck if it was me ), and that it does get better over the weeks .
