Not sure I am any more qualified, frankly, but hey ho!!

OP posts:

sunnybump · 19/09/2009 22:18

Oh no, MS can come back jeez I feel for you. Fingers crossed it's just baby poking your insides and will pass soon.

As for weight, I've put on about 11 lbs so far but I was very flat stomached before so I reckon it's all there and nothing to do with too much cake and too little exercise, I was 10 1/4 stone and now I'm 11stone and 5'5"and a half.

mawbroon · 19/09/2009 23:06

We don't have scales at home just now (it is very liberating I must say!).

But, at booking in, I was 64kilos (156cms, so a little bit too heavy, but not drastic) and at the midwife on thursday, I was still 64kilos. This is fully clothed etc, so probably my clothes weigh, oooooooh, at least 5kilos

I had my first aching back moment today. I was leaning over the trolley in the supermarket unloading the shopping at the checkout and felt that familiar ache. And my bump's not even that big yet!!

AngelaCarleen · 20/09/2009 00:00

I've not actually put on any weight, I've lost 7.5kg. But I'm expanding daily, if that makes sense . It doesn't to me.

Just got in from my friends baby shower, wasn't strictly a shower, maybe more a 'your about to pop, sounds like a good excuse for a party' party. We had to eat melted choccy bars out of nappies, sounds euk but it was actually quite fun . Is it wrong that my melted mars bar nappy was so yummy I wanted to lick it clean?

tryingtobemarypoppins · 20/09/2009 11:36

I think I'm making up for the half a stone lost through sickness up to 20 weeks!

ktpie · 20/09/2009 12:54

I didn't weigh myself at all last pregnancy and don't think I will this time. Extra weight is mainly baby anyhow (that's what I tell myself) and it's not like you can do much about it until after the birth.

AngelaCarleen - don't fancy the mars bar nappy myself!

I'm starting to get an achey back as well. Was sat on the floor playing with DS the other day and it really started to hurt, had to put a warm wheat bag thing on it and have a nap (any excuse).

Hello Sunnybump - I'm rubbish at being pregnant too, I just spend 9 months feeling rotten and moaning about it. None of this blooming business for me!

I don't mind bump touchers if they are good friends but I don't like strangers doing it. Think I give off fairly hostile vibes so don't have too much of a problem.

The amount of movement I'm feeling varies a lot day to day, somedays I worry that I haven't felt anything for a while then there is a flurry of activity.

chinook · 20/09/2009 19:19

I can't stop weighing myself this pregnancy for some reason. I think it's because I was so chuffed not to have put any weight on at 19 weeks. Now a week later 3 pounds has gone on so I will probably start avoiding the scales.

My ms had really tailed off to a bit of mild nausea in the evening but the last 3 days it has been horrendous again. Why me??

No backache yet for me but I seem to get more aches around my bump this time round. Guess the ligaments etc aren't quite what they were the first time round.

Watercress - I am just a bit further down the A23 from you. Lots of airplanes near me. My friends and I are considering an outing to that Kidspace place. Would you recommend it for 3.6 yr olds?

Welcome to all our new mums to be. Hope everyone is well.

sunnybump · 21/09/2009 10:43

I think I'm gonna ask DH to hide the scales when he gets home from work.

Thanks for the welcome

fiziwizzle · 21/09/2009 12:22

Well I feel quite the fatso - haven't had any MS and have been steadily putting on a pound a week for a while now - 9 pounds so far. Some of it must be baby but I'm resigned to the fact that the rest is due to me not being on a diet for the first time in my adult life and eating SO MUCH CAKE. Enjoying every mouthful

2Happy · 21/09/2009 14:44

Man, I'm glad there's people complaining about their MS again! I am soooo sick of it! Got masses better about a month ago. I'm not sure if it's got worse again, or if it's just not got any better since then. Couldn't face breakfast today, and just feel constantly sick. Not as overwhelmingly awful as before, but I just wish it would go away. I'm 18w tomorrow, and had MS to 19w with ds2, so looks like I'm going to have it even longer this time
Have put on some weight, but not as much as I'd lost in the first place so still a net weight defecit IYSWIM!
Hope all the 20w scans going well

TheOldestCat · 21/09/2009 15:06

Oh no to those still suffering with morning sickness. I really hope it goes soon, 2Happy and others.

I've got a very odd symptom - a kind of low-level 'buzzing' or tingling in my right breast. I assume it's another delightful pregnancy-related thing. How very strange

watercress · 21/09/2009 15:13

Chinook, I hate Kidspace (literally round the corner from my house, I can walk there in 15 minutes), but loads of my friends love it and have season tickets. Personally, I hate the noise and rampant children - there's nothing cordening off parts for certain ages, so you end up with 10 year olds knocking over toddlers. And the staff are militant about not taking your own food or drinks in (to a ridiculous level - one of my friends was told off for giving her little one some fruit) AND it's quite expensive. But then I'd rather wrap up in raincoats and wellies and go to the park or kick through some leaves. So I guess it depends on your view on these things. I'd be interested in your view if you do make a trip.

Sorry to hear that MS is still around for some of you. I'm feeling quite good at the moment, just with bouts of tiredness. No bump touching, thank god, but I think I give off real "don't you dare" vibes.

Not weighing myself this time, so can't comment on that. Anyone had a 20 week scan yet?!

Slightly annoyed that even though I now have a visible bump, nobody offered to give up their seat on the train for me this morning I wouldn't have minded if there were loads of people without seats, but I was literally the only one standing. But then I remember that last time the same thing happened even at 36 weeks - I guess i must give off "I'm fine really" vibes.

Hmm, off to think about how unapproachable ai must appear to the world...

flyingcloud · 21/09/2009 20:41

I just got back from my consultant appointment and was told off, very severely, for putting on too much weight. What's really bad is that I really didn't think I had put on that much, but it turns out to be nearly 11lb.

DH is being quite so dear either, in his French manner is telling me that he was right to be warning me about all that food I was eating - in a 'I told you so' kind of way.

I am stupidly upset by this, as I know it's my fault, but I hate that over here it's such a big thing.

mawbroon · 21/09/2009 23:13

Sorry to hear that some of you are feeling crap again.

I am starting to feel some jazz hands going on inside which is nice. I know to enjoy this bit before it turns into full blown breakdancing!

I still don't have a date for my scan yet, but I'm only 17wks so plenty time.

AngelaCarleen · 22/09/2009 09:17

Oooh Flying cloud, how horrible of your DH. Why don't you sneak some full fat cream and butter into his meals without telling him, wait a few weeks and say 'gosh you're looking porky dear' . Anyway it's not your fault, you're growing a person and you'll need that extra insulation to keep baby warm over the winter . 11lb doesn't seem that much actually, one of the websites I found said that most women put on 4lb in the first tri and 1lb a week in the second. So assuming your around 20 weeks thats about right isn't it?

Hope that makes you feel better

flyingcloud · 22/09/2009 09:43

Thanks Angela, it really helps and having looked around on the internet, I think as long as I'm a bit more careful about the cakes and biscuits I should be fine and I'm not in danger of exploding. The consultant really ticked me off and told me I was not at risk of GD and they would be monitoring me more closely (even though my BMI is still in the healthy range for a non-pg woman, albeit at the very upper limit). He said there was no risk to the baby but I was going to make my labour very difficult.

DH is French so weight gain is seen as a weakness here. He also does a very physical job, so doesn't put on any weight (has lost quite a lot this year) and I am constantly feeding him. I have no willpower when it comes to the food that I keep in the house for him, which has been a major problem.

What really shocked me is that I had been weighing myself and it turns out my scales at home are about four pounds off, so I really thought I was doing ok. I hadn't weighed myself for a long time before pregnancy so I don't know what I was when I started, but I reckon I've put on about a stone since my wedding which was three weeks before I fell pregnant.

OK sorry all, rant over.

flyingcloud · 22/09/2009 09:44

Sorry - now at risk of GD.

AngelaCarleen · 22/09/2009 10:07

Know how you feel about skinny DH's. Mine's lost about 12kg since I found out I was pregnant (he's away with work and has been at the gym most days). Makes me feel even fatter . Mine would never dare tell me I was putting on weight, or say I told you so, as he knows he'd pay for it.

(AngelaCarleen scuttles off to think up suitable punishment for if he even thinks about it)

TheOldestCat · 22/09/2009 10:14

That's rubbish, flyingcloud - poor you.

And rant away; tis what we're here for.

Insanitybecomesme · 22/09/2009 10:27

hello everyone not had chance to post for a while due to the daily chaos of kids.

I am sure when I see the consultant in two weeks she will be on about my weight as I already had a high bmi. I know I have started to gain weight but I am now 18 weeks and there are two of them in there ( at least I hope there are still two).

I am on count down to my scan in a fortnight as I do not seem to have many moving sensations going on, normally by now I would have felt loads. I am also really tired but that is down to school having started and the end of lie ins rather than babies I think.

Angela my hubby is well aware not to say anything that may upset or annoy me (weight gain included) or he shall suffer, mind you he has had plenty of experiance in me in pregnant hormonal state.

Pops78 · 22/09/2009 10:53

Hi Everybody,

I have been in such limbo since MS went and though I keep checking what you are all up to just haven't felt that I have had much to say as no major symptoms. Had to respond to flyingcloud and Mawbroon though.

Flyingcloud - You sound fine, I know what you mean about the French and weight though. So strange that a country of people that love cream, butter all manner of hugely fattening, though gorgeous dishes are so judgemental about weight. Do thay all secretly have bulemia! My BMI is 30 and I have put on 9lbs so far, had to see special nutritional midwife. She was way larger than me and just asked what I thought was healthy eating, I told her, she said good and that I was clearly big boned, that was it. I am not going to panic about weight while pg, not go crazy and just get thin to yummy mummy afterwards.

Mawbroon - I am so pleased that you have jazz hands already at 17 wks but it is making me nervous I am 19+2 now and nothing that is why I feel in limbo, other than bump don't feel pg anymore. Oh come on baby start tickling me... Should I be worried? I have a doppler but not convinced that I am picking up on baby not me.

Sorry for usual rant. I hope everyone else is good. Oh I wanted to ask if anyone else is planning on going to the babay show in Oct at Earls Court. I have just booked 2 tickets for me and dp with special offer code EC69 through the website. That's 27 for 2. On the door it's 20 each so thought that good. I am going on Sun 18th. If anyone else might be going then pls let me know maybe we could meet up for coffee!

Pops

mawbroon · 22/09/2009 11:20

Pops, I didn't feel my ds until much, much later last time - almost 20 weeks I think. Please try not to stress!! How fast is the heartbeat you are getting on the doppler? The baby's goes really fast - much faster than an adult's (unless you've just done some mad exercise!!) and if you were able to get someone else to hold the doppler you could maybe also try feel your own pulse and see if it matches the one picked up from the doppler.

Still wretching here today. Admittedly I was cleaning the toilet at the time which was a bit stinky because I've been putting off cleaning it because I knew it would make me wretch.....

woowa · 22/09/2009 11:56

Have just found the ante-natal bitof MN! Can anyone join in this conversation - am due 11/02/10?

Not that there's much to say...growing bigger, dc seems ok on scan, have low placenta. This is my first pregancy and my response to people's questions about how things have been is generally, quite boring really!!! How can I make 20 weeks interesting to people??

Nice to meet you :-)

Clappedout · 22/09/2009 12:05

Pops-I didn't feel my dd until about 22 weeks, I remember being worried and feeling a bit left out. Sweet hot drinks and warm baths are supposed to encourage movements but try not to worry. You must be due for your 20 week scan soon, mine is next week, so you will be reassured then. Top tips from mawbrron on the doppler. If I had one though I would be trying to listen all the time and a nervous wreck...

As for the weight issue I have had to be really careful this time as I had very high blood pressure last time and am doing anything I can to prevent it happening again, REALLY missing those cakes though.

MS back too but not as bad, rubbish.

watercress · 22/09/2009 12:29

flyingcloud, you poor thing. Your doctor sounds nasty, and if your weight is still within the normal BMI range for a non-pg woman of your height, then I think you're doing fine. Last time I was pg, the MWs and GPs were jumping up and down because I put on less than two stone and they were worried it wasn't enough. So it looks as though they all worry about different things. If you can, please put it down to an issue that your doctor has, not you.

, please try not to worry about the movement (or lack, thereof). If you are picking up a heartbeat (and it would be quicker than yours, so it should be easy to distinguish) then all is well. Many people don't feel movement until 22 weeks, and there was a bit of chat on this thread recently about how the position of the placenta can make a difference.

Mawbroon, still retching? You poor thing.

"Insanity", I can't imagine how tired you must be with your job, kids and two inside your tummy. Hope your DP is being supportive and you've got lots of other people to call for help.

watercress · 22/09/2009 12:37

Oops, x-posted and poor use of bold text...

Welcome woowa.

Clappedout, well done on staying strong with cakes!
