Sheep can be affected by sheep abortifacient factor, which is a chlamydial infection which causes them to miscarry. If you/someone you're in close contact with comes into contact with a sheep in lambing season (or before then if they are aborting) then you are at risk of getting it, and it can cause you to miscarry too. Now, would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what my dh does for a living - I'll give you a clue: pig's willies and sow's vaginas are curly wurly; horses have no gall bladders; cows have a bloody rough deal compared with us when it comes to labour...

chinook · 16/09/2009 20:13

Curly wurly willies - that would certainly add an interesting edge to activities!

Watercress - you must be quite close to me as Godstone Farm is only a few miles away from my house. I too am gutted as it is lovely and very well run and really a parent is responsible for making sure hands get washed.

We will be finding out the gender next week. Dp is insisting and now the time is getting nearer I can't wait to find out. Some friends and relatives don't approve of finding out though so we are going to pretend we don't know. Mumsnet will be the only place I can talk about it!

tryingtobemarypoppins · 16/09/2009 20:29

Good for you chinook! Did you find out last time?

We have our scan next week and after finding out last time we thought we may want a surprise however after finding out today my 'friend' has used our first choice girls name I would quite like to know so we can think more carefully about names!

bethylou · 16/09/2009 20:35

Two of my best friends are due in the next couple of weeks and I fear that they may take our favourite names. We could only ever agree on about two so, having used one for a boy already, we'd be stuffed if they 'steal' the remaining one!!

I've got the 20 week scan in 10 days time and we intend to find out the sex this time so we can find out if we need to buy any girlie stuff in the sales. Not sure whether we'll be telling people or not.

Off to play scrabble to prove I still have some semblence of a brain!!

esselle · 17/09/2009 14:22

G'day! I'm in Melbourne how about you? Welcome anyway.

mawbroon · 17/09/2009 15:00

I had my midwife appointment today. Everything fine. heard the heartbeat which was nice.

I haven't put on any weight since booking in, but hey, there's loads of time yet!

DS and I have been a bit under the weather. he's been worse than me, but we both have coughs that we haven't been able to shake off for over a week. It's getting a bit annoying now, but not much I can do for it I guess.

watercress · 17/09/2009 15:56

Mawbroon, have you had the coughs checked out? My DD had a chronic cough and it turned out to be asthma. She's on inhalers now and is fine (apart from an exacerbation this week and a nasty trip to A&E-chinook, it was Mayday, if that helps you locate which direction from Godstone I am. Where are you?)

We'll find out the gender at the next scan as we have such problems with names DH and I are different cultures and religions), it makes it much easier to only think about one sex! We found out last time, and told people if they asked, though did get a surprising amount of grief for having found out...

Welcome stoofadoof and congratulations! You won't be lonely on here.

AngelaCarleen · 17/09/2009 19:47

Ooooh I have a sore back. Not looking forward to being much more pregnant and continuing to work 12.5 hour shifts . Never mind, annual leave for a week now, woohoo! Also only just over 4 weeks til my DH is home and can take over some of the donkey work at home .

Has anyone else's bump had a growth spurt. Mine seems to grow overnight. I'm going mad with all sorts of stretch mark cream, but I think if I'm going to get them there isn't much I can do about it, my bump is lovely and soft though

The next person who rubs my bump is going to get broken fingers. Whats with that!?!?!

MusicalMummyJules · 17/09/2009 21:15

Hey everyone,

Hope all is well with you all.

I had my scan yesterday and everything is well, apparently the fibroid that they found in my 13 week scan has disappeared and we found out that were expecting a baby boy so DD is very happy as it will be an 'even' household!

I've got my appointment with the consultant next Wednesday to discuss whether or not to have a c-section, apparently the hospital are really hot on not having c-sections which is probably not in my advantage but we'll have to see!

Phee96 · 17/09/2009 22:10

Hi everyone, hope you and bumps are all well

Angela I'm with you on the rubbing bumps thing. I hate it. I'm not a touchy-feely person with anyone outside my immediate family anyway so it always felt very rude if someone else did it. Luckily it didn't happen to me too often, I think I must have given off very hostile vibes and this time I think most people aren't quite sure yet whether I'm actually pregnant or still just carrying a tummy from DD

We are going for another delivery surprise but I was quite shocked to find that it was much more difficult to make up my mind whether to find out or not this time around

stoofadoof · 17/09/2009 22:25

hi Esselle - Auckland for me... not forever though! we've emigrated by mistake!!! knew a few weeks into getting here, but kinda stuck cos no-ones going to employ me up the duff and at least here DH has good job! Also don't want to head home too early in case we ever regret it in the future!!

thanks watercress!

Scan booked for 28th Sep... agree Phee96 not sure whether to find out about sex or not... though at 12 wk scan there was something that may (or may not!) turn out to be the cord!!! got a full frontal pic of whatever's in there! I think if we do find out - cos it's obvious, we'll just keep it to ourselves!

also, bump def grows more obvious over the course of the day... start out by looking fat at 7am, and by 10pm i'm 8 months pregnant ho hum

oo, this is nice! thanks for having me!! i'll stop rambling now!

T4tastic · 18/09/2009 05:25

Hi girls,
Not posted for ages, so thought it time I caught up.
Well, it's 4:30 in the morning, insomnia has hit me hard, thank god for my iPhone as it means I can do this and surf the web under the duvet. DP says it's like sleeping with E.T.
Got my 20 wk scan in a week, really looking forward to seeing my little one again. No movements to speak of yet, but DP is going for his black belt in TaeKwonDo, so when this baby kicks, I guess I'll know about it!!
Got list of names going, but not sure about finding out the sex, friends have mainly been glad they didn't, particularly with the first.
Bump is starting to look nice now, as opposed to the 'is she?/isn't she? pregnant phase. Not very big, but finding maternity jeans preferable to my usual skinnys. My boss said I was glowing yesterday, eventhough when I look in the mirror, I just look tired all the time. Have you all started your pelvic floor excersizes yet? A friend of mine told me about some sort of discreet device you can buy..?but think that's maybe an unecessary expense. Have started asking friends, cousins for any cast-offs, I'm hopelessly unprepared, John Lewis apparently do a Baby List service similar to their wedding list one. Could pop it into Christmas cards, and hope for the best...?!!

Clappedout · 18/09/2009 11:40

Hi all,

Welcome stoofadoof, we are due on the same day, a most unromantic Valentine's day if on time!

My bump is beginning to show more though still no-one is offering me a seat on the bus

My DD1 has started hugging my bump at bedtime when she stands in her cot, quite sweet until it turned into a headbutt last night....

Btw the bump touching is definately not ok, my mum is a fiend for it and even that irritates.

2Happy · 18/09/2009 12:37

I don't mind family bump touching - at least they ask permission first! - but hate strangers doing it, yuk. Like they somehow have a right and you're in the wrong to object.

PMSL at being like sleeping with ET

motherof2boys · 18/09/2009 12:42

hi all - glad to see everyonr generally OK - am 20+1 today and scan next week.

Had loads of lovely movements at the w/e and early part of week and then they stopped on Tuesday night so went to hosp yesterday and they heard heartbeat - apparently baby is on the side...

after what happened before v anxious - even after heartbeat.

Has anyone else had this experience? Can't believe it is normal to be 'on the side' for this long.

bethylou · 18/09/2009 20:16

T4tastic - sounds from your message that you are requesting castoff pelvic floor exercisers - has given me a good giggle!

Hope you all have a good weekend.

T4tastic · 18/09/2009 22:15

Eeewww! Second had pelvic floor devices..? I'll not be looking on eBay for that particular item Bethylou LOL.

sunnybump · 19/09/2009 10:04

Hiya, Im new too and thought Id join in the chat. I'm a first timer, and have to say I'm not particularly enjoying this pregnancy lark so far. I didn't know I'd get ALL the 'minor' pregnancy problems and be an emotional wreck, I'm still waiting for the blooming....

lol at the pelvic floor device, I'm on a steep learning curve here

flyingcloud · 19/09/2009 10:24

Motherof2 - yes I've had loads of movement up until Thursday evening and have had hardly any since - there is usually a pattern to it and that seems to have gone out the window. It's a bit worrying, but I do have the very occasional twinge so I hope that's reassurance enough.

motherof2boys · 19/09/2009 11:18

thanks fc - slight movements today again but so slight compared to the kicks and bumps earlier on.

hopefully you will feel something soon!

started to feel rather sick again too so hoping that is a positive sign!

AngelaCarleen · 19/09/2009 13:36

Whats with the feeling sick again anyway? I haven't felt sick for only four weeks, and now it's back . I think people fibbed to me when they said that the second trimester would be lovely and I'd feel great. I feel sick and I'm getting fatter by the minute. It's false advertising and I want my money back

tryingtobemarypoppins · 19/09/2009 19:48

AngelaCarleen know how you feel re sickness!

I weighed myself today and have gained 6lb!!! Feels like alot as I'm small.

How much has everyone else gained.....so far!!
