Is anyone else having major troubles with leaky nipples? It's causing me no end of embarrassment

jessysmummy · 06/06/2005 16:04

Welcome stm.
Leaky nipples? Fortunately not yet though I rememebr from last time round what a problem they were after dd arrived. Have you got yourself some breast pads?

franch · 06/06/2005 19:14

Welcome STM Stats thread is here - please add your details!

I am EXHAUSTED! DD unsettled last night so slept in our bed, which didn't help. But even without that, I sometimes sleep for up to 2 hours when DD has her nap and still wake up feeling like a complete zombie. Seem to have a zillion things to do and can't face any of them. Been starting to feel a little bit sick again too, but diet could be better so I'm not really doing myself any favours. Need some exercise too - but it's a bit of a catch 22 with the lack of energy thing ....

Hi everyone, welcome stm. Think I'll start with disposable nappies, with this being my first. My Mum works in a babyshop though which sells Bambino Mio so may try them once I know what I'm doing!
No leaky nipples yet but have a very irritating bout of thrush. Must read the earlier threads about it as is driving me up the wall. Also had my first really bad acid indegestion spell after stuffing my face at a buffet, thought I was having a heart attack! I had my first argument with DH the other day, we never really fall out but ended up not talking for about 12 hours! Don't even remember what it was about but I couldnt stop crying. One minute I'm high as a kite the next in tears.
My friend who was planning a water birth, had a baby girl, Niamh Isla, 9lb 3!!! She didnt have the water birth in the end, had epidural, episiotomy and forceps delivery, too scared to ask her anything else about it!
Need to ask a really stupid, blonde, first time mum question! Can your nipples be too small to breastfeed?!?! My boobs have got huge but my actual nipples aren't very big or sticky outey???!!

pooka · 06/06/2005 20:28

Hi STM. No leaky nipples here yet - but a friend has had them since about 12 weeks pregnant.
ych - I don't think that nipple size is a problem. When the baby latches on, I think it's expected that most if not all of the nipple should go in the mouth. If they're not sticky outy now, they will be after birth and particularly once baby suction gets going. I went to a b/feeding workshop last time and they had a sectional drawing of a baby feeding and I was flabbergasted by how much nipples stretch.
I am suffering from horrendous acid indigestion/reflux at the moment. Once it starts it seems to go on for a whole day, even with gaviscon. Horrible

ych · 06/06/2005 20:51

Thanks for that Pooka, puts my mind at rest. One of my friends told me my nipples would stretch to the size of bullets once I started breastfeeding - thought she was joking though!
Hope the indigestion goes away soon. I've got a large bottle of gaviscon, luckily my attack only lasted about half an hour, made me feel really sick though. Oh the joys of being pregnant! I'm getting ready to watch Desperate Midwives on BBC3 at 9pm.

pooka · 06/06/2005 21:01

But they do return to normalish! Promise

singleteenagemum · 07/06/2005 08:56

Morning everyone, guess i'm alone in the leaky nipple department then...probably coz i haven't got a nice man to suck on them for me! lol

JM i did but they didn't look very good under my bra, you could tell i was wearing them. Definately considering boob job after i finished breast feeding, they've got too big

pooka · 07/06/2005 11:21

Ah but you might find they shrink a bit afterwards - time will tell.

singleteenagemum · 07/06/2005 11:23

they've always been big so no hope there, is all my mother's fault!

jessysmummy · 07/06/2005 11:28

STM - If I was ever tempted to have anything "done" it would be a boob reduction . I'm currently struggling to find a maternity bra to fit and any that I can find are £30+. And as for maternity clothes, I've had to get size 16 just to fit my boobs when I'm in 12/14 bottoms.

singleteenagemum · 07/06/2005 11:45

i;ve gone from a 34EE before pg to a 36FF now, i find M&S maternity bras fit in the cup but can be quite uncomfortable everywhere else. I know how you feel with the maternity clothes i'm in 8/10 bottoms and a 14 top, i look really wierd going into a clothes shop to dp to buy mternity stuff and getting a really wierd combination of sizes.

jessysmummy · 07/06/2005 12:07

I've gone from 34D to 38G (so far). Sure will get worse before it gets better. It's a good job I'm quite tall otherwise I'd be toppling over. Between my boobs and my tummy I've not seen my feet for the last 2 months. Gives me an excuse to go for pedicures, though ...and while I'm there I might as well have a manicure...ooh and a facial too!

singleteenagemum · 07/06/2005 13:18

lol...it's definately not nice. Still least you get pampered! Are you quite big (tummy wise)? i still feel quite small

jessysmummy · 07/06/2005 13:40

I feel quite big - bigger than last time round and when the midwife measured me she said my bump was 2 weeks ahead of my dates but everyone else tells me that I'm not big at all. Think they are being distracted by my ample bosoms!

singleteenagemum · 07/06/2005 14:00

definately must help. think that may be why i look so small, can only see my bump if i breathe in and bend over a little

mummyhill · 07/06/2005 15:06

Welcome STM.

I give up if my boobs get any bigger i will have to get the bras specially made have gone up to a 40G from a 38E . I keep on bieng asked if it's twins (or an elephant) lol when i tell people that bump is due in september and there was me feeling quite happy that i was half a stone lighter than i was pre pregnancy.

Bump gave me a scare today did not move until lunch time i was starting to get quite anxious. Called community midwife team who said to call the hospital. Called the hospital to be told that their policy would only be to listen in as i am not yet 28 weeks and that my community midwife could do that call her back. Dutifully did as i was told only to have the community team tell me that i should go to the GP if i was that worried as they are sure to have a sonicaid to listen in with. By the time thay had finished passing me from pillar to post and i was starting to worry if any one actually gave a toss about me and my unborn child he/she woke up and made me feel as if i had a whole football team in here. I realise i may of overreacted but hey they could of been a bit more supportive/helpful.

On the great nappy debate sorry girls i am lazy and im going to stick with disposables.

singleteenagemum · 07/06/2005 15:47

Hi MH, thanks for the welcome.

Glad everything is ok with the little one, if not with those who are supposed to be supporting you. You're not far off 28weeks though are you?

mummyhill · 07/06/2005 16:11

27 weeks today!!

mummyhill · 07/06/2005 16:39

Not looking forward to going in to work tonight it was warm enough last night and has been hotter today, i wish they would put air con in, it would make it more comfy for staff and customers alike.

Boompi · 07/06/2005 19:47

Goodness me ladies - I was thinking having gone from a 36B to a 38C was good Im enjoying the bigger boobs though - they balance out my butt!

Franch - sorry you are so tired. Made Yogabase last night - very gentle but just what I felt like. Been to 4 diff pregnancy yoga teachers so far and cant believe how different they all are. Wish I had the energy/time to go more really.

pooka · 08/06/2005 08:29

So Rhumba, were you there last night (the 6:40 Zoe class)??? Had fun eyeing up bumps to try and gauge whether any new faces could be you! (While doing an inspired and technically flawless half forward bend a the same time of course!)

Kiwifruit · 08/06/2005 09:11

I've gone from a 36C/D to a 40D - why can't they make gorgeous maternity bras to enhance our blossoming busts, rather than those ugly plain cotton ones with thick seams and no shape??? If anyone can tell me where to find something that will make me feel even remotely sexy, it would be much appreciated (by me and DH !).

It's far too nice today to be sitting in an office - would much rather be lying in the sun with a good book!!

Had my first shared care midwife appointment at the GP surgery yesterday. They were running an hour late with appointments, so it was lucky that I didn't have any meetings at work that afternoon, so had decided not to go back . Asked for a referral to the hospital physio for my hips (very sore at night ), and was told to wait 3 weeks until my next hospital MW appointment, as a referral from them would be faster than the referral from the GP MW. WTF??? Then to make my day, was told that despite being told by my GP TWICE that he had faxed my request for a transfer to UCH, he had done no such thing, and nothing had been sent . What else does he lie to his patients about?? Probably lucky for him that he is on holiday at the moment, as the head GP from the surgery didn't look at all impressed and promised to send the letter straight away, and to send a copy to me so that I can see that it's been done. OK rant over...
Welcome singleteenagemum!

jessysmummy · 08/06/2005 10:36

Poor you, KF - Feel sorry for all of you stuck in work today. Let me know if you find any nice maternity bras too! No work for me today so you'd think I'd be able to go out and enjoy the sun with dd wouldn't you? No such luck. My hayfever has kicked off again and of course I can't take a thing for it. So that's me for the rest of the summer - confined to barracks .
Also having to wait in for a fitter from MFI AGAIN. Don't know if anyone has had any experience with MFI but their supply chain is horrendous. We've been waiting since Aug for a bedroom to be finished. All the bits have come in dribs and drabs and each time we have to wait in for them to be fitted. Fitter was due at 10am and half an hour later, still no sign...Highly unrecommended!
My rant over too...hope everyone has a lovely day in the sun!
