A new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Trikken · 04/09/2009 12:22

I agree about the rennies, they taste much better than the gaviscon ones which i tried but kept having to spit out cos they tasted awful therefore not getting a chance to work.

eeyore2 · 04/09/2009 12:25

skorpion - hilarious dream!! Sorry to hear about the indigestion.
I also find it quite hard to get comfortable but yesterday the rocker/glider chair arrived. We were up putting it together until about 11pm but it is so comfortable. It will eventually go in the nursery but for the moment is going in the living room for me to sit in while watching TV etc.
Quick question for the ladies with experience in this: For the hospital bag, would you recommend taking one of those breastfeeding pillow things? Like this? Or do they provide you with stuff like that in the hospital?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 04/09/2009 12:31

Oh yes, would recommend! Not necessarily that one, I used the v-shaped pillow I had already for breastfeeding, but definitely something like that for breastfeeding support, otherwise you get sore arms!

Hello you lovely bunch

GP was lovely. Has doubled my dose of ADs, and said he wants to see me weekly for the next months. Also if I ever have a moment where I'm feeling THAT low again, I'm to go the surgery and say I need to see him immediately. A lot of people don't like him as a doctor, but he's always been so brilliant with me.

MW has just been as well, and said its quite common around this stage for any medication to be upped, so don't feel quite so bad now. Bless her she even gave me a hug I'm messuring a week over, again, bang on 31cms, and she thinks Bryn is head down, but didn't want to press too much because of the pain.

Still feeling very crappy but seeing the doctor next Thursday again. Will just have to monitor myself until then to see how I'm doing. Thank you all for being so fantastically supportive

Now, I shall waddle off, and read everything. We do talk rather a lot!!!

tigger32 · 04/09/2009 13:38

Hello every and a huge welcome to the newbies

I've not check in for while although have been lurking!

Its ds1's birthday today he is 6!! Can't believe my little boy is 6.

erika sorry you've been having a rough time lately, hope things are picking up.

I have an appointment for physio on my back Tuesday so really hope they can help me as I can't drive for than 15 minutes with it really hurting! And as for sleeping I'm with the rest of you who are struggling .

To add to the labour bag list
Glucose tablets for energy in case they tell you you can't eat anything! (don't think they have been mentioned)

Also a list of important people to call, in case no signal/awkward midwife not letting you use your phone.

Can ask about arnica tablets, I have never used these before, are they safe to take whilst breastfeeding? (I'm guessing so as so many of you use them)

eeyore I would check with your midwife to see if they provide breast feeding cushions as I know I've always been provided with them, one less thing to carry too!

Just discovered there is a postal strike here today, explains why ds hasn't had any cards in the posts poor thing why today!

skorpion · 04/09/2009 13:40

erika that's good. I'm glad you have such supportive and understanding people around you. Hopefully they will help to make things better.

Thanks, ladies. It's gone for the moment. I will remember the tips for the future (and stick some tablets in my hadbag permanently), especially the bum one . I can sort of see it working, getting things mixed up a little. Just not straight after lunch...

southernbelle77 · 04/09/2009 14:08

Oh skorpion, your dream did make me laugh!! They would have to some Bridget Jones knickers and a half to wouldn't they!!

erika glad your appt with the dr went well and hopefully things will start go get better from here on in.

It's my first day of having the days to myself now dd is back at school and I'm on maternity leave!! Received my forms about maternity allowance today and it's all sorted! Maternity leave officially started on the 31 August so looking forward to receiving the money! How long did anyone have to wait for the maternity grant money too? I have started sorting out the spare room too. It's been used as a spare room/sleep room for childminding/junk room for so long that it's going to take some doing! But I have managed to sort out a lot of toys and put them in the garage, and also the travel cot etc has been put away (for now!). Now need to sort out all the arts and crafts things as it's all in the draws that will eventually be for baby! Will have to buy some more 'really useful boxes' I think!!

wook · 04/09/2009 14:15

Broodzilla re the old perineum massaging- I am with beepbeep and Scarlotti too- I did it religiously every morning and night all through a very hot July and August before ds's birth and so went around with a very yukky oily bum for weeks on end. Then got a whisker off a third degree tear because ds was a giant child and I had to give birth in stirrups. So I think it is a waste of time too, for different reasons!
In fact, I wondered in retrospect if the person who had told me to do it had been having a laugh- (it was dh's ex girlfriend!!)

Fruitpastels · 04/09/2009 15:09

Erika Good to hear you have the support around you.

Anyone else getting braxton hicks? Mine have been on and off for most of today. I didn't realise at first as I thought I'd just overdone walking around the shops. I have since remembered that I had these when pg with DS. Not worried about them but they are seeming rather frequent.

Southern I sent my Health in Pregnancy grant form off yesterday. It will be paid directly in to my bank account. I have heard it takes about 10 days. Doesn't help with the postal strikes being on. Also, I've been very impressed with the speed and ease of the MA application process. I'm now waiting for my first payment! How long are you taking off childminding? I'm hoping to go back in 9 months.

skorpion · 04/09/2009 15:16

fruitpastels I can second that. My HiP turned in the bank account in about two weeks.

Fruitpastels · 04/09/2009 15:47

Before I forget, I came across some lovely non-wired bras in Primark today. They are called 'Super Comfort Non Wire Bra with Smooth Padded cups' They are £4 each and I picked up a couple and they are so comfortable and give a lovely shape! They will do the job for the remaining weeks. I didn't fancy paying out the £25 for an Emma Jane bra, which I nearly bought on line yesterday.

southernbelle77 · 04/09/2009 16:33

I wish we had a primark here ! That is such good value.

fruitpastels I am not sure how long I will be having off, but at least 7 months. I am going back to it, but only for one family so will be talking to them nearer the time and see how it's going! They would have liked me to go back earlier, but where fine when I said probably not! What happened with your mindees? Will they be coming back or will you look for new ones?

I have had a few braxton hicks, although not that many to be hoenst. I don't remember getting them at all with DD tho!

Felt like a right plum at school today with my crutches. Had so many people asking what I had done etc etc and just felt really silly! Oh well, they will get used to it seeing as I will have them for what seems like forever!!

ErikaMaye · 04/09/2009 16:44

Tigger Happy Birthday to your DS I hope his cards turn up soon though, poor thing Best of luck with the physio appointment, too. Think mines the 22nd.

Southernbelle hope the sorting goes okay, don't work yourself too hard! Think my grant turned up in about ten days, too.

Fruitpastles - Bargin!

Laugs thank you for the DVD, turned up this afternoon, much appriciated. Will do those CDs for you later, so sorry I've been distracted this week.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support

Does anyone else want a copy of the CDs, just so I know?

So is the general concensus that p. massage is a waste of time, then?

One of my friends from antenatal class has gone into labour! Her waters broke this morning. Sent my TENS machine up with MW as they don't have any at the hospital... Was quite shocked.

Apparently, I'm being totally irrational - but considering that DP was suicidal the other week, to the point of walking to the Pier and nearly jumping, and that I didn't hear it from him, but from his friend, surely anyone finding out that any individual who'd felt like this had booked a trip to the other side of the country for the weekend would be anxious?? I really can't deal with all this drama right now. I act irrationally sometimes, I'm the first to admit that, but I'm also quite certain that the way I'm reacting to hearing this is entirely normal. sigh Sorry, had to get it off my chest.

Trikken · 04/09/2009 16:45

yes, have had braxton hicks already, had some really uncomfortable ones last night, luckily didnt last too long.

Broodzilla · 04/09/2009 17:14

Hello dearies - before I start waffling, must tell you all to get yourself to the nearest Blooming Marvellous asap: I was just waddling along with my very preggers friend, saying that most of my maternity clothes are very flimsy and summery, and can't decide what to do now that there's a chill in the air... turned a corner and BAM - Blooming Marvellous had a sale. They've got t-shirts for £2, jeans for £5, bras for £4 etc. I spent £20 and got £130 worth of stuff, including a lovely woolly turtleneck jumper that was £39 but I paid £3.99

Right...

Erika so glad your GP visit went well, he really sounds like a lovely human being (and GP!) and sounds like your MW is worth her weight in gold too. Re your DP - don't know what to say really as I don't know him, but I can see why you'd be worried. Would you feel comfortable discussing this with one of his friends or even his mum?

Fruitpastels Yup, I've had Braxton Hick's since about 20 weeks and they're getting worse.

Tigger Good tip about the glucose tabs, at least it's energy if we can't face / aren't allowed to eat!

Skorpion at your dream! (the indigestion sounds horrid though! do you know what brought it on?)

Pavlov Good point about the internal bruising, hadn't even thought of that! pillules it is then!

Thanks for the input on the PM Easyeggs, Scarlotti, Beepbeep and Wook. Think I might give it a miss. Don't fancy the walking around with a yucky oily bum unless I have to. If I get my way, I'll give birth in the pool anyway, and I've heard you're less likely to tear then. If I don't get my way then I suppose my perineum will be the least of my worries.

Must go breathe calmly now as am awaiting MIL any minute. She hasn't told us how long she'll be staying but mumbled something about THREE WEEKS... my head is spinning...

beepbeep · 04/09/2009 18:34

Broozilla - I think you are right, I had DS in the pool, he was 2lb heavier than DD and I didn't even have a scratch! P.s. wish we had a blooming M near here, will have a look on their website.

Fruitpastel - been getting quite uncomfortable braxton hicks for quite a while, sometime they go on for ages.

Erika - I do feel for you, you have so much going on at the moment, but hang in there and yu'll get through it. Bryn's birth may well give DP something positive to focus on.

DD has now done 2 full days at preschool, she's done so well and i'm so proud of her, but she is absolutely shattered. DH carried her, asleep, up to bed half an hour ago - normally she has an afternoon nap (she's only 2.5yrs) but has been going without and really busy. She was so excited about taking her lunch in her new Peppa Pig lunch box!!!

Broodzilla - just seen the last bit of your post - 3 weeks!!!!!!!

Tamlin · 04/09/2009 19:06

I would add little travel-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner to the list. Your hair gets revoltingly sweaty during labour(the ward is kept hot for the babies) and in my case, I threw up into it repeatedly. Vomiting isn't uncommon during labour, and trust me, you WANT to have your hair cleaned during that first bath! (I had my DH do it - he was saying cheerily 'Gee, I haven't washed vomit out of your hair since we were freshers!')

I find Blooming Marvellous tops too short, so be warned, tall girls - I'm only 5'10" and most of my height is in my legs, but I still get the underside of my bump hanging out of their tops. Very elegant!

Tour of the delivery suite tomorrow!

Trikken · 04/09/2009 20:20

ooh you're the same height as me Tamlin.

finding most tops too short at the moment, finding smock-tops the best for length.

ErikaMaye · 04/09/2009 21:00

Bloody men..! Ah well. He's promised its just a holiday so will have to trust him, I guess.

Broodzilla thanks And double thanks for the BM sale tip, hope its on online as well! And - three weeks?? gulp Beepbeep thanks And aww at your DD. My mum is manager of a pre-school, and says the first week the new ones are always so tired but get used to it pretty quickly.

Tamlin throwing up in it? No one warned me about being sick during labour... Jesu, you find out more horrors about this delightful process day by day!!!!

I'm a short-ass, and kinda greatful now Primark have some amazing smock-style tops in the sale at the moment, end of their summer range.

Opinions for those who have used breast pumps before - have found a Medela Swing pump for £30 advertised in the Friday Ad, minus breast sheilds, which are about £7.99 to buy seperately. Pump is normally upwards of £80. So if its in good condition, what do we reckon?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 04/09/2009 21:50

I threw up over DH . He is the most squeamish person I know! I knew I needed to be sick but could not speak on account of having a contraction and I just motioned to the sick bowls, he had no idea what I was talking about and I promptly vomitted all over him. He looked shocked, then just ignored it, luckily as I did it again. Then he changed his top - luckily he had a 'Who's the Daddy' t-shirt with him to change into .

Braxton Hicks - oh yes. Started about 2 days ago. Today I had them while walking around stables, and my stomach when solid as a rock. Also, after it stopped, baby had an arm or a foot permanently sticking out of one of my sides I kept looking at my bump which was decidedly lopsided!

Mummy2be2009 · 04/09/2009 22:33

ive just ordered a dress from next its gorgeous really happy with it.

i ordered an 8 cause i was that size before becoming pregnant is it true that when you buy maternity you get the size you were before you became pregnant?

pavlovtheforgetfulcat this little one is always moving and my bump is always lopsided lol my fiance finds it funny so do his kids lol. i cant believe you threw up over your dh lol

xxx

ErikaMaye · 04/09/2009 23:15

Damn you, Blooming Marvallous, DAMN YOUUU!!! The website isn't working sob sob

Found a lovely cardigan on funmum, thought it was in the sale, then realised it was full price more sobbing Will have to find a cheap version!!!

beepbeep · 05/09/2009 08:06

Erika - that's the pump I have and it's great, you would want to buy a new breast shield ayway as I find they discolour from from baby to the next. By the way I looked on the website last night but there was too much left on there. Must admit I find their tops short too.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 05/09/2009 13:05

Has anyone been experiencing heavy lower feeling? Uncomfortable/painful in the pelvic region like baby is pressing down? I am experiencing this today and it really is quite painful on top of/in between legs. . Plus a bit of leakage.
