A new thread!

lemontop how rude of that man not to give you a seat, or for anyone to give you a seat in fact. Did you scowl?

I slept badly too so you are not alone, also worried about things going on, more so in the middle of the night when I can't do anything about it, than in the morning when I can do something about it, then it all seems less concerning!!!

Also, with DD in with us, she is getting used to us being there, wakes up wanting us to cover her back up with blanket again, or sneaks into our bed for a cuddle, or wakes up scared of a monster of some kind. And then there is DH who snores, and who snores worse on his back and spent most of his time last night on his back and I kept having to turn him, ask him to turn back onto his side. {gggggrrrrrrrr] !!!

But, work is a must, the stairs are going back in again, hopefully in the right place this time! And it is a big job and noisy and messy so we are banished for the day. Normally I would consider bunking off and going back to bed. When the builders have gone I am going to take a week off and sleep!!!

Laugs · 19/08/2009 08:50

lemontop sorry you're getting stressed, although I am jealous you're 29 weeks - nearly a month ahead of me!

I don't know anything about GTT but I have given birth in a normal labour ward rather than a birthing centre and would say don't worry about it. Everything will still be geared up to making you as comfortable as possible and, for me, I was reassured by the fact that there were doctors on hand, should I need them. (I am going back there this time, instead of the birthing centre, as I had a good experience.) Many, many people's labours don't go to their original birth plan (the baby hasn't read it after all), but they turn out perfectly all the same. At least now you can prepare for the changes rather than it all happen at the last minute when you are in labour.

I am shocked people didn't give their seats up for you on the train. Maybe you have to ask?

Laugs · 19/08/2009 09:01

erika DH works in accounts and I'm pretty sure when they pass matters of non-payment on to the credit company they are effectively handing the case over - so you might be unlikely to hear from the photo company as they now consider it in the hands of the creditors.
Have you managed to get any legal advice?

DD slept in our bed last night as she's been a bit wheezy. She was talking in her sleep, rolling all over the place and kept waking up asking for a glass of water/ Rabbit/Teddy. Then I kept waking up when she was asleep to check on her breathing! At least I didn't have a snoring husband to contend with, pavlov. Mine slept on the sofa and probably had the best night's sleep of any of us.

scarlotti · 19/08/2009 09:24

lemontop sorry, it's probably partly my fault you're worrying about the GTT. Honestly, it's not that bad once you know what to expect. The bit I found the hardest was going without food, but then my body normally gives me a max of 20 mins after opening my eyes to go and find food before it complains!
You will need to stop eating at a certain time, then only water until a certain time. You go in, get some blood taken then drink the glucose. Take a good book as you need to wait then around 2 hours. They then come back and take some more blood and then you're free to eat.
Definitely take your own lunch and drink so you can have something nice.
Our hospital had lovely lounger chairs to sit on (think Joey and Chandlers chairs in Friends!) so you're comfy, and I was one of 3 so not alone.

Also, both of my DC's were hospital births and both experiences were really positive, even with the constant monitoring I had to have with DS. Labour wards these days are much more relaxing places than years gone by and the Mum's are normally left to adopt whatever position etc they find comfortable.

Another one with a rough night's sleep here too! Thought the previous two nights were too good to be true.

pav fingers crossed for the stairs today, glad you're pleased with the floor

Can't remember who asked ... but if you're 27+2 then you're in the 28th week, as the books etc. tell you what you will experience this week coming. 28+5 here and it still seems like it's ages away until things will start to happen.
Am also starting to have thoughts about the actual birth, inevitable I guess, but was quite happy with my head in the sand for a while!!

raggie · 19/08/2009 09:29

I'm ba-ack!

Ahh, so lovely to be home in my own bed smelling of my own laundry drinking decent cups of tea and having yummy cereal for brekkie. Woooooo! Sorry to hear you didn't have such a peaceful night as me lemontop, pavlov and laugs - hope DD is feeling better this morn - but I didn't sleep at ALL the night before bc of travelling so I was owed a good one.

How are all the rest of you this morning?

I have just returned a JojoMamanBebe dress that was HIDeous in favour of some v cute sleepsuits AND completed the form to transfer my ISA to an account that has more than 0.5% interest, like my old one. A productive morning so far for Raggie!

Happy belated birthday katster
Empathise with your 'moisture' issues pavlov and everyone else especially on the plane yesterday, ahem. Must be par for the course.

BBL - are you enjoying The Little Stranger? Keep thinking about buying it when see ads on tube.

mumsiebumsie · 19/08/2009 09:39

Lemontop I'm due at the same hospital as you - Mayday right? I too want to use the birthing centre but who knows, due to a currently low lying placenta may need to have a caeserean (no idea how to spell that!). I've heard horror stories about Mayday too but in my experience it usually concentrates on the mothers not being happy with how they're treated rather that the quality of care given to the baby. Also most complaints surround the postnatal ward. So in my book, I think that as long as they deliver my baby safely (which I'm confident they can do) everything else is secondary to that Not sure if that's a rational view but it's my first and my biggest concern is the baby being delivered safely rather than the attitude of the staff. Sure that after the baby is in my arms i'll start kicking up a stink about the attitude of the staff though. Also whilst I don't want my mum in the room when I'm actually giving birth (just DH) I want her at the hospital as an advocate as she's got a strong will and will make sure that my wishes are heard. I think that in somewhere like Mayday that is mandatory! And lastly - even if you give birth in the labour ward you can request a room in the birthing suite I believe for the rest of your stay, so that may be worth enquiring about - I think there's a cost involved though.

I'm 26 weeks so we can compare stories once babies are here!

BeckyBendyLegs · 19/08/2009 10:15

Raggie welcome back! I finished the little stranger last night and loved it!!!!

DS2 has just bitten DS1. Sigh! DS1 has teeth marks in his arm. More parenting tests for me.

OP posts:
lemontop · 19/08/2009 10:29

scarlotti I'm also starting to wonder whether the head in the sand approach might be a better idea!

mumsiebumsie yeah it's Mayday I'm booked into and boy are there horror stories out there! I chose it over Kings mainly because of the birthing centre and it being the closest. I might go for one of the amenity rooms as have also heard the post natal wards are not very pleasant. According to midwife they are trying to get people in and out asap due to swine flu but unfortunately they've cancelled tours and visitors. I'll have to stay in there a bit longer anyway. Maybe check your mum will be allowed as well as DH? My DH assures me that he'll be there to make sure I'm taken care of! the care so far has been great.

raggie i need to do exactly the same with my isa. In fact me and DH have got money in about 8 different accounts. Could really do with making sure what little we have is all in one place.

raggie · 19/08/2009 10:32

lemontop I'm moving to FirstDirect cash isa - it has a good rate and by coincidence we've just signed up for our mortgage with them so was quite easy to do. Also, they have a good rep on consumer websites.

Oof, sound like I work for them now (I don't, honest!)

mumsiebumsie · 19/08/2009 10:37

lemontop I haven't had a tour yet so maybe I've missed my chance That's ashame. I'll also ask about my mum being there. If she can't then DH will have to toughen up - he's a bit squeamish so am making him watch loads of birthing videos which I'm not sure is helping! I'm happy with the care so far too - it's a shame though that the reason you chose to use Mayday is no longer available to you. Really hope everything works out for us both

katster37 · 19/08/2009 10:42

Welcome back raggie!

Am having a v domestic day, ironing and cleaning, whilst awaiting three deliveries - big asda shop in one, new microwave in another, and steriliser plus a few baby bits in the third! Really want them to get here before 2pm so I can go to yoga, but since none are here yet, I think it is unlikely... Is anyone else pregnancy yoga-ing?

Also v jealous of those of you at 29 weeks - am not even 27 yet!! I think once you're in the 30s, it sounds much closer (which is both terrifying and reassuring at the same time I suppose!)

BeckyBendyLegs · 19/08/2009 10:55

I had a scary thought just now - I've got the same amount of time left, as I've had since my 16 week check with MW. Ahhh. That doesn't seem long ago. I can't get hold of my MW to book 28-week appointment. I left a message just now and for the life of me couldn't remember my home phone number, 'err, please ring me on 2, errr, 23, errr, can't remember it!' Mortifiying or what?

I want to do yoga Katster but haven't got around to finding out where I can do it yet.

Sitting here listening to Demis Roussos - that really is sad - ever, and ever, forever and ever la la la la

OP posts:
katster37 · 19/08/2009 10:58

Becky I did the phone number thing the other day as well!! I couldn't remember any of it, at all - but could remember DH's mobile perfectly so had to give them that in the end

None of my deliveries are here I have been up and dressed since 7 just in case!!

Does anyone else find they are starving by 11am?! I am trying to justify having lunch so early... I wouldn't mind but I had the biggest bowl of cereal ever for breakfast - what is wrong with me?!

BeckyBendyLegs · 19/08/2009 11:08

What is wrong with you - just pregnancy! I am sitting here eating dark chocolate kitkats yum.

OP posts:
katster37 · 19/08/2009 11:48

Well, have succumbed and eaten lunch... Oh dear!

First delivery here, yay! New microwave and two 2.5 tog baby sleeping bags....

Two more to go!

lemontop · 19/08/2009 12:03

katster I'm going to have lunch too. You sound super organised. I don't even know what a 2.5 tog baby sleeping bag is let alone have any on order! Also don't know about sterilising stuff. There seems to be two different kinds depending on bottle / breastfeeding?
I'm hoping I'll have time in my maternity ,leave to sort all this stuff out when i have more of an idea.

I still keep looking aimlessly at buggies on ebay without a clue of what I want. Everyone I see on the street seems to have a bugaboo of some sort but they are worth more than our car!!

Just seen some majot aggro in the post office delivery office. They've lost everyone's parcels! I'm waiting for my wedding photos. Hope they sort it out soon!

ursigurke · 19/08/2009 14:26

Katster, I'm doing pregnancy yoga as well and I find it really great. Initially I only started to do some exercise to get ready but I had never expected it to be so helpful for all my little pains now. Those exercises seem to be so easy but they are soooo useful. Sometimes when I go there, I feel really stressed, tired and maybe my back hurts but when I leave I feel like a different person. In fact, I'm doing my favourite exercises every evening. (Wow they should pay me for this free promotion). So I can strongly recommend it.
lemontop, I can perfectly understand that you are worried about your GTT (I am really not good in letting them take my blood) Just keep in mind it is only a couple of boring hours interrupted by something annoying. As you do not seem to have any symptoms, the result will be fine and you only do it to make sure that your baby is and you are both healthy.

pinkmich1972 · 19/08/2009 14:29

Hi aLL
I have not posted for ages, but i have been reading all the posts!
Well I am 27+6, just had yet another scan, and i am having a GIRL!, um wanted a boy, sorry to say, already have one girl (16), two boys (12 and 9).
Have a rubbish time really, have a clot on my lung, injecting with cleexane, twice a day.
Fell horrid, it's just so hot in my office.
Work is tough, just think i am too old for this, feels like this pregnancy is taking forever!!
Having growth scans to check baby, this seems ok, baby about 2Ib 8OZ at the moment.
Sorry for the moan, but glad i could say this to someone.
xxxxxxxxx

mumsiebumsie · 19/08/2009 15:29

Hello Pinkmich,

Welcome back.

So why did you want another boy? Sure you'll get used to the idea of a girl soon enough. Sorry you're having a rough time of it - it's scorching where I am which is making me very uncomforable too but seems wrong to complain when we get some rare sun!

So worry to hear about the clot - how was that diagnosed?

mumsiebumsie · 19/08/2009 15:31

So sorry...

Why am I too lazy to proof read?

katster37 · 19/08/2009 15:42

Pinkmich sorry to hear you are feeling so rubbish - the clot sounds awful, can't you be signed off work for a bit? Also intrigued that you wanted another boy! We are having a boy (first baby) and I must admit, I secretly wanted a girl! Not sure why, suppose it's because I 'know' about girls! Anyway I am sure you will be fine. It is v hot today, isn't it?

Usigurke glad to hear of your positive yoga experience! You're right - get them to knock 50% off your next class fee I was meant to go today but still sat in waiting for the steriliser to arrive! Lemontop I PROMISE I am not organised!!! It is just because I want to get everything as ready as poss before the start of term as I am supposedly working 'til quite late on, and if I do actually manage that, I want everything to be in place! Plus these last two weeks of the hols I don't have much on so thought it would be a good time to try and at least pretend to be organised when I can be in to collect parcels etc!

raggie · 19/08/2009 15:45

I really want to do some pregnancy yoga too - did 'normal' yoga pre-preg but teacher advised me to stop til 12 weeks and have totally let it slide.

Anyone know good places in London town, pref north, that aren't too bank-breaking? Everywhere I've seen you must sign up for a certain number of classes and I've missed the start ...

Totally know what you mean ursigurke about leaving class a different person!

skorpion · 19/08/2009 15:59

I like my classes, too. Although find once a week not enough and keep forgetting to do stuff at home. Well, I work a lot at home after office job as well. But I should at least get into the habit of sitting on my ball whenever I watch telly, shouldn't I?

pinkmich welcome back. Sorry to hear you're struggling. Congrats on the girl. I was in exactly the same situation - dh even said that he could see the disappointment on my face at the scan But I've got used to the idea and the more I think about her, the more I'm excited to be having a girl. All the things she'll learn, the strong woman she'll become (no pressure...)

raggie · 19/08/2009 16:53

Oh - would you recommend using a birthing ball skorpion? I have been thinking about it. I am a bit slow on the uptake compared to you ladies since due at the end of the month...well that's my excuse anyway!

Actually, the MW changed my date AGAIN to the 30th now - St Andrew's Day! (I'm Scottish) She seems to think go by the scan whereas my consultant said go by the last period date... it's getting to be a scrawl-fest on my notes!

eeyore2 · 19/08/2009 17:23

Oh dear Pinkmich, sounds like you are having a rotten time. I wonder if your feelings about girl/boy are influenced by the age of your other children? I was definitely at my MOST obnoxious as a 16 year old girl, but it was only a phase! It must be hard to get too excited about the baby whatever the sex when you are suffering yourself with your poor health.
I have had a quiet day at work and popped out to go to mothercare and have probably just spent the best 10 quid of my life! On a 'pregnancy support belt' (not a belly band). I feel like a different person! Walking back from the shop feels like the difference between running for a bus with a sports bra vs no bra. Can definitely recommend to anyone who feels 'weighed down' by their bump.
Lemontop I am shocked by that man on the tube. I hope he is really ashamed of himself. Good luck with the GTT test.
Raggie - 30th November is my birthday! I hope one of us has their baby that day.
On buggies, I am thinking of getting an iCandy Cherry. Mainly because it is small and light and takes the maxi-cosi car seat which we are going to be lent by a friend. Has anyone got any experience of them?
