A new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skorpion · 17/08/2009 20:32

Thanks, Ladies. I'm seeing the doc tomorrow so will mention it just in case. scarlotti I know what you mean and it's definitely a flesh feeling, not bone, but will keep an eye on it.

pavlov - maybe it's just discharge? I have the same feeling from time to time - of wetness. And get through lots of liners. And there was me thinking yay, no period stuff for months! It's probably worth mentioning to the mw anyway.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 17/08/2009 20:40

skorpion have had some discharge before, and it stopped/reduced over time. i guess this seemed a bit more sudden, along with the other feelings of off colourness. I am sure its probably discharge again. apologies for tmi ladies!

scarlotti · 17/08/2009 20:50

pavlov I get a little leakage now and then, almost seems when I forget to go to the loo for a while it just happens. A bit like there's only so much room in there and when it's full it then leaks out! I thought at first it might be fluid but I don't think so.

Hadn't thought to use liners - does that make me a minker?!

ursigurke · 17/08/2009 20:50

pavlov, I'd agree with wook. It's always best to get it checked out if you are unsure. But I have this problem of "excess moisture" since weeks and as far as I know it is pretty normal. It should just not have any strange colour or smell as that might be some sort of infection and I guess in your case it could be that if you are also feeling unwell.
In my husband's family they only seem to produce boys (and only one child in total) so I was a bit concerned they might have a genetic problem but we are expecting a girl.

Happy birthday katster and happy anniversary tigger.

Tamlin · 17/08/2009 21:34

scarlotti, I agree about pushing the physio referral - if nothing else, you will get a terribly sexy belly brace or belt which will help with back and pelvic pain as you get bigger. I can't believe how few your appointments are, it's a bit shocking - my maternity notes have the NICE guidelines for second pregnancies, and I'm SURE you're supposed to see a midwife more.

I count third trimester starting from week 27 - if you split forty weeks by three, it seems to roughly work out as weeks 13 and 27 when you change over, if that makes sense. Mind you, I'm never very good at working out when people ask me how many months I am, because pregnancy seems to be nine and a half months. At 28 weeks, are you six months..? Seven..?

Question for Londoners - if I have to drag a pushchair and small wheely suitcase from Paddington to King's Cross St Pancras, am I best to take the Circle Line or flag it in favour of a taxi? I'm worried about loads of stairs - the disabled map says that I should be able to do it 'step-free', but how hard is that likely to be?

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/08/2009 21:57

Hello! Happy Belated Birthday Katster! I get stitch-like pain on the belly too.

I'm exhausted but happy. Had a LOVELY day. Want to move back miss my life there sooooo much. DSs had a great day too.

Willy obsession? Yep we have that here too! And 'mummy, where is your willy?' and DS2 looking at my boobies and saying 'what are those for?'

OP posts:
scarlotti · 17/08/2009 22:17

Tamlin I think it's because other appointments count like scans I get to see my GP at 31 weeks and then the mw again at 34, then I go at 36 and 38 so back in the same pattern as a 1st timer.
I've been to London with DS before when he was in a buggy and to be honest, it's much easier to get in a cab. Most tube stations don't have lifts and are a nightmare with a buggy. The good thing about black cabs is that you can push the buggy in with your dc in it, so none of that folding whilst hanging on to a dc and a case business!

BBL we also have the boobies interest, although he knows they're for milk as that's what cow's boobies are for Am hoping when I feed the baby it won't seem strange for him, no reason why it should I guess.

Ninjacat · 17/08/2009 23:01

Pav without being too gross I've heard that amniotic fluid has a very strong distinctive smell like Marzipan.
Don't know if that's of much help but hope all is well.

Happy Birthday Kaster

I have a horrid pain by my ribs just at the top of my bump. I'm actually almost in tears from it and paracetamol not working

ursigurke · 18/08/2009 07:21

Tamlin - I don't use Paddington or King's Cross that often but I think I remember a few steps that you have to take. Maybe I'm wrong. But if you are alone with buggy and suitcase I would take a cab.
And I have the same problem, I never know how many months I am. I started to count backwards. As I am due 31st of october, during october I will be 8 month, during september 7 and now during august 6.

Laugs · 18/08/2009 09:09

Kings Cross you can do without steps (as far as I remember), though it does have quite a steep escalator, which might not be much fun with a pushchair, suitcase and bump. In fact, all that talk of panic attacks a few days ago - the Kings Cross escalator was the site of one of mine! If a cab's too expensive, I've found buses in London far more accessible than tubes.

re the bump pain when walking - I get this too. I walk almost everywhere and get it most times I walk for more than about ten mins now. It feels like my legs are going too fast for my belly, if that makes sense, so I have to deliberately slow myself down.

ninja that pain sounds horrible. Is it the same as the pain you had a couple of weeks ago? Do you think your baby has jabbed its foot in your ribs?

kaster happy birthday! hope you got some nice pressies.

pavlov hope you are feeling better today. I remember I kept wondering in my last preg if my water had broken as there was quite a lot of moisture. In fact, they had to be broken mid-labour, so I still don't know what the sensation should feel like.
I am having the 'other' problem, or as your DH (and mine) would put it - I have pissed myself!! er... not all the time! but when I've been really sick a couple of times it's just come out. I bit the bullet and bought some Tena Lady the other day. I was in Boots like a teenager buying condoms for the first time, so furtive! I walked around the stand twice, walked back, glanced around, grabbed a pack and made a dash for the till. When I got home I found I'd bought the ultra absorbant type, so it's like wearing a sanitary towel circa 1985. Yuk. I am saving them for special occasions when I'm about to throw up.

claired21 · 18/08/2009 09:33

While we're on the subject of various leaks down below when should we start pelvic floor exercises?

katster37 · 18/08/2009 09:43

Thanks everyone for the Happy Birthdays and the online party, Erika! Going for dinner tonight with friends and DH so that should be nice.

Skorpion - YES to the stretchy funny twinges below bump when walking, I get this all the time! I am not sure if it's ligaments or because the muscles are carrying baby, or what. It goes off when I sit down though.

Happy anniversary Tigger, hope you had a lovely day!

Tamlin I would get a cab to be honest. Although if you are circle lining, you shouldn't face too many stairs as is not very deep. But just purely to avoid business/madness I would get a cab. It's not too far.

BBL glad you had a lovely day, but sorry it made you for your old life.

Ninja I get a pain in my ribs, but only at the left side. I asked the MW yesterday and she said it's cos all your organs are squished up...

Saw the MW yesterday and there are traces of protein in my urine... anyone had this? She said it was v v v much 'traces' but now I am busy googling, which is bad!!

katster37 · 18/08/2009 09:43

ps Pavlov I hope you're OK this morning...

Broodzilla · 18/08/2009 09:48

Hi everyone,

Have had a busy busy couple of days but catching my breath now. Loving all the stories about DDs&DSs. I'm sure it's super hard work, but it must be so amazing to watch these little personalities emerge!

Pavlov hope you're feeling better now, and that it was all just excess moisture! Having said that, I keep telling myself every day that we're at a stage where even if the babies turn up, they're getting big enough to be fine!

I definitely second everyone with the feeling yuck / being
hormonal (again...)

We went shopping for babystuff (and other de-cluttering furniture etc) over the weekend and what was meant to be a nice outing, with DH finally getting involved in the nesting, ended up with a massive argument in the IKEA parking lot. (I must add we were sitting in the car with the doors shut, it sounds white trashy otherwise... ) With DH resorting to the whole "millions of women do it all on their own" rubbish. Anyway, in the end I told him that I'm sick of him being like the Del Monte man. He THINKS he's involved, but all he really does is give a nod to whatever it is I've spent hours researching/planning/agonising over. All of a sudden he was laughing, and he later told me that his staff at work sometimes call him the Del Monte man too...

I We've been organising and decluttering since, taking clothes and stuff to the charity shop / tip. I find it strangely liberating. Maybe it's a hormonal thing?

Had a meeting about work yesterday which was pretty intense, basically about something that has been brewing for months, but I finally got fed up and fired off an email where I spoke my mind... and you know what? Things are SO much better. My usual head-in-sand coping mechanism is really not very helpful. Anyway, also ended up agreeing to a timetable which will have me working straight through and having a super important presentation / meeting the week before EDD. Do you think I'm mad? Let's pretend for a minute that there's no way of the bean arriving early (although I've had a feeling all along that he will do just that) will the hormones turn my brain to mush and make it impossible to perform that close to the day?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 18/08/2009 10:06

Thanks ladies. No more leakage that I can tell, just moisture! I have bought these really really ultra ultra thin pads that are in like a tiny little plastic container, you can just slip them into your handbag. They seem to be working fine. Oh and I hate marzipan, and it does not smell of that, I can tell you!!!!

But I feel off colour still and slept like a bag of poo as lots of us are. I am taking the day off work. I would like to say to relax and chill out, but thats not possible with the banging and sawing and swearing coming from our loft! But it means I don't have to deal with risk assessments, criminals etc. I am hoping to feel better by this afternoon so I can take DD swimming as planned.

ErikaMaye · 18/08/2009 10:39

Hope you're all feeling good today, mentally and physically.

Ninja hope the pain has eased off I had a similar thing a few weeks ago. Doing some yoga helped.

Happy anniversery Tigger

Pavlov feel better soon!

Broodzilla sorry to hear about your argument, but good for you at work!! Hope it just continues to make things more positive.

Claire I read we're supposed to be already doing them... I tend to when I remember

Got a letter from the credit company threatening legal action if I don't pay the whole thing in the next week Feeling SO low. Bloody people.

DP has gone to the doctors today, really proud of him, know how hard he finds it.

scarlotti · 18/08/2009 10:41

My waters broke before labour with both of my dc's - and you certainly know about it when they do! For me it was like a huge gush, the second time started with an almighty pop!
I suspect my ...erm.. dampness is a combination of more moisture and a little leakage. So that makes me an old woman, nice Maybe I'd better brave the tena lady stand too!

Pelvic floor exercises can be done right from the start - whoever asked that!

Broodzilla brave woman with that presentation. I think you'll probably wish you hadn't when you get there, but I'd suggest making a good set of notes to refer to whilst presenting just in case your mind wanders and you lose your train of thought. I think that if you have work that's interesting and captures your attention, it's easier to carry on. Stuff that's not that gripping I find doesn't keep my mind focussed and so I turn to mn or random internet 'research'!!

Am with you on the therapeutic decluttering too, makes me feel so much better when I've done some.

pav sorry to hear you're still struggling, hope you start to sleep better soon.

lemontop · 18/08/2009 11:47

katster if the traces were anything to worry about the midwife would've said something. I had white blood cells in my urine in very early pregnancy which turned out to be a urine infection which was treated with antibiotics but that was +++ (loads!).

pavlov I've had 'that' a few times too.

ninja I get a pain like that sometimes particularly at night and I can't get to sleep cos it feels like baby's head is wedged up there. Had to sleep in spare room the other night. Great for newlyweds!

Laugs · 18/08/2009 11:56

scarlotti I know what you mean about feeling like an old woman. Hopefully the problem will go away when we're not pregnant any more? I must admit I've been pretty rubbish at doing my pelvic floor exercises. I remember after giving birth last time every midwife I spoke to kept banging on and on about it, but it was the last thing I was bothered about at the time. More fool me.

erika how's the writing going? Glad your DP has gone to the doctors too.

broodzilla I will join you in the nesting frenzy. We had a big clear out at the weekend, which felt so good. I have also become a bit obsessed about cooking/ budgetting. We had a roast dinner on sunday and I have managed to string out the leftovers (chicken, carcass, veg) to make another three meals this week. I am immensely proud of this . I am so undomesticated normally, I think this is my way of preparing for motherhood, or something.

eeyore2 · 18/08/2009 12:29

Hi everyone,
You have all chatted so much can hardly keep up!
Yesterday I did my exam and I am totally delighted to say I passed. Everyone was lovely about it at work and today the boss came over with a big bottle of champagne for me! Although everyone was a bit given that I am pregnant and can't drink it for around three months.
Sorry to hear about all the aches and pains and leaks! We really do have it tough being pregnant, don't we. Some days I wake up and just think "oh no! I'm pregnant again today! Can't we have a few days off every once in a while?"
We are starting the nesting / decluttering as well. Although DH thinks this is just an opportunity for me to spend a lot of money on plastic boxes from Rymans. It does feel good every time you get one cupboard or drawer completely done though.

skorpion · 18/08/2009 13:02

eeyore congrats! Well done you for passing, do you have many exams to do or is it just a one-off? Keep the champers chilled, we have one in the fridge for after the birth, too.

laugs that's exactly it, it's funny how un-coordinated the body can be! My legs haven't a clue that something different is happening just above them, I am a fast walker but have to really control it.

claire my yoga lady has me doing them now. Mind you, I tend to forget all the time, so it's only Monday evenings in the classes that I get to practice. Should really be paying more attention to the old pelvic floor. I was shocked at first that you can separate three different groups of muscles and excercise them one by one, before that I just pulled everything in at once. Very strange sensation...

curiositykilled · 18/08/2009 13:48

hello everybody,

Just thought it time to introduce myself. I'm 29 weeks (due 3/11) with boy/girl twins in Merseyside. Just had a 28 week growth scan (normal with twins) and both babies nice and big, growing more like singletons! eek! I have two older DCs, DS - 4 and DD 2.

So, what's a happening with all of you?

Think this is the most up to date thread - right?

claired21 · 18/08/2009 14:22

Welcome curiosity - I have a twin brother so am a bit biased but think boy/girl twins are the best! At 26 we're still best friends. We were 7'6 and 7'7.5 at birth at 38wks, my mum's only 5 ft 2 - it's amazing what us women can do!!!

We also have 2 older brothers who were 6 & 4 when we arrived. My mum used to get up at 5:30 to get us all ready for the walk to nursery & school. Will need to remind myself of this when I'm finding one baby hard work!

Trikken · 18/08/2009 14:33

welcome curiosity

ds has been a pain in the bum for most of the day so now feeling stressed out, and wondering how i will cope with two.

I feel irritated at every little thing that goes even slightly wrong, hoping this is the hormones and not actually 'me'. felt like crying earlier cos my apples when brown when pureeing, due to having no lemon juice when i KNOW i bought some yesterday when shopping but just checked the list and its not on there so where that went between trolley to conveyer belt i just dont know.

Am now having some chill out time as dh is asleep as he's on night shifts at the mo and my lovely mummy has taken ds out for a bit.

tigger32 · 18/08/2009 15:02

Hello and welcome curiosity twins, how exciting! Glad everything is going well.

ninja Pain the ribs is quite common I think, I had with both my other pg as the baby gets bigger it pushes it foot etc onto the ribs, I guess he/she is just getting comfortable. However I was just checking in a pg book and it said although it is very common and usually nothing to worry about, should the pain become really painful consult your gp or midwife.

pav I get this too sometimes, the pregnant body really can be quite vile can't it?!

Well done the exam eeyore I'm sure the bubbly will be worth the wait!

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes, Dh and I had a lovely night in and cooked a meal together, I even treated myself to a small glass of wine mmm
I have my 28 week mw app on Thursday, is this a blood test appt? I can't remember Any idea if I'll get measured as I'm sick of people saying how huge I am, so I want to be able to have a come back ie well I measure bang on for dates!

We finally got ds2 moved fully in with ds1 now so I can start sorting out the nursery, not much to do really as not going to decorate as it still looks perfect, will just have a good clean and wash the curtains.

erika good news about your dp seeing his doctor, hope he gets the help he needs. Sorry the credit card company are on your back, hope you can sort something out, is it from the photo company?
