KKQ - at the gp. That is appauling. Can you go on the flu website and see if that's any more help?

Ready - how scary for you. Hope you're ok and getting lots of rest.

Becksy - hope the diabetic nurse is helpful

Yank - glad the bp went back down. Hope it stays that way for you.

Nothing to report here. Getting fed up of people phoning and asking "Any pains yet? Any twinges?"

Hawkmoth · 24/07/2009 18:45

Thanks for the advice on the pineapple. Predictably no effects (ill or otherwise) of eating all the flesh of one!

Nothing much happening here, just trying to clean up (DP mostly) for the MW's homebirth assessment tomorrow. An escaped mouse during cleaning is the most excitement round here for a while!

OonaghBhuna · 24/07/2009 20:17

Sorry to hear you have been in hosp RFN2A3.Thanks for all the kind messages. I need to update you all now..... DH really wasnt happy after the MW left so he contacted a doctor that we know (he is a paediatrician) so basically he looked at Ollie later that day and said we had nothing to worry about as usually it is 3 weeks post birth that they would be concerned for a baby if it wasnt putting on weight. So in order to rule out tongue tie he snipped it for us there and then! WOW what a difference it has made with the BF, the first latch was totally different and he has been feeding constantly. The poor wee man was struggling. The snipping was ok he didnt even cry he was probably more upset about having fingers in his mouth to hold the tongue back!
The differnce is unbelievable I am shocked!

ScummyMummy · 24/07/2009 21:36

Oh that's great, Oonagh.

Aargh, ready. lots of sympathy on the bleeding. That sounds quite similar to what happened to me a few weeks ago. Scary. Glad it's stopped, anyway.

Kitkat- your GP sounds spectacularly unhelpful! How are you and your son feeling now?

I'm in the nothing much happening here camp too (and am quite relieved about it). Eating too much though. Have had friends/family round 2 nights running and partner's cooking is too good. Feel uncomfortably full!

nellyup · 25/07/2009 09:11

oonagh - yay for the paediatrician! So glad you got his tongue tie sorted and he's feeding well, must be a relief.

KKQ - how are you all today? Swine flu or not its uncomfortable enough at this stage without being ill on top. .

Today I am officially overdue as my revised scan-based due date was yesterday. But date by LMP is 2nd August and by date of conception is Monday so its all a load of guesswork isn't it! Not expecting anything to happen imminently really and having finally decided that yes, our garage/loft stored 7 year old Moses basket does in fact have an insect infestation baby is not allowed to arrive until new one has arrived . Think he'll oblige?

Uki · 25/07/2009 11:22

Hi All

I better be quick as baby, sounds like she's starting to stir.

Kitkat- I hope you feel better, I thought they were giving tamiflu to pregnant women, with or without symptoms to be on the safe side. well that's what they seem to be doing here.

Yank - I'll try not to alarm you, but be careful now, rest up, and make sure you go straight to hospital is you have a headache or see spots, sudden swelling etc, I am the three times queen of high bp, so I know all about it, that and inductions because of high bp.

Ready- take it easy too, we want those babies nice and big, mine looks scarily small enough and she's 7 pounds.

Can I just rub it in and say how much better I feel not being pg even with the interrupted sleep. I have energy again , it's ridiculous how bad you feel in late pg, you'll all feel like new again soon I swear.

that and you'll be totally in love, little babies are just wondrous

Hawkmoth · 25/07/2009 16:04

Baby had hiccoughs for ten minutes this afternoon - it stopped being funny/cute after the first two! Then he proceeded to play 'octopus' for half an hour. I daren't stand up for the stabbing pains in my cervix.

Feel a bit odd today actually. TMI - but my wee smells funny, like PMS. Probably means nothing though.

MW came for HB risk assessment, which went very smoothly. She's going to get me a prescription for paracetamol suppositries, which are perhaps the best thing about having a baby in hospital!

BabyBump2B · 25/07/2009 17:54

Ahhh Uki - thanks for that, I needed to hear something positive to come.

Apparently this little one is a tease. I've been having what seem like contractions on and off for 3 days now but nothing happening. MW thinks its just my body getting ready for labour, but each time it happens I think "Is this it" and then several hours later when it all stops I realize the answer is NO!

I'm guessing this will probably go on for the next 2-ish weeks. Only good thing is I figure every day that passes is one day closer to her inevitable arrival!

Ok - so who's next? I need another birth story to keep me going! xoxo

Hawkmoth · 25/07/2009 19:58

Vindaloo = MORE hiccoughs. Pah.

kitkatqueen · 26/07/2009 02:12

Weeeell, ds and me both seem a bit better - I have actually been awake all day which is amazing (now I can't sleep!)and i've been actually feeling hungry DS has been less snotty but liable to having a tantrum at any moment so I'm guessing he's not quite himself as yet and is sooo food picky when he normally stuffs down everything.

Whatever we have got its getting better so tbh I hope it was swine flu because presumably you can't get it twice??

Hawk - hiccoughs from hell here too. I'll be starting on the vindaloos from next tuesday

Hope everyones ok

OonaghBhuna · 26/07/2009 12:15

Well BF is no problem now, I am so relieved and we actually had some sleep last night Hooray! ollie is also peeing and pooing loads which is great! And I managed a walk yesterday and it felt great, I had Ollie in the Kari me and he was so contented.

I am looking forward to all of the developments.......over the next few weeks

Any ideas for a post natal thread, I have asked before and I am crap, should I just put up Aug 2009 in the meantime? Any thoughts?

Anyway hope everyone is ok

kitkatqueen · 26/07/2009 16:59

Oonagh, I'm so glad you things are falling into place now I know it seemed like a horrific thing to consider being done to a little baby, but I think it was the best thing really and if he was that "unbothered" then you have given me a massive moment of "phew" iykwim? If any of us are in your situation and need to have a tongue tie snipped you have just decreased the stress massively. Thankyou.

look forward to hearing how much he's chubbed up by this time next week.

Heinz

Where have you disapeared to?? will fb you. not been there recently...

VJaybigpants · 26/07/2009 17:12

Oonagh I'm really interested about the tongue tie, my ds was born with one, and I really struggled to feed him, in the end he was on the bottle becuase it was just so hard, but the health professionals wouldn't do anything about his tongue and it's still very noticeable now, he's 6. I will look out for it this time round.
I'm so glad it's all working out for you and Ollie now.
Aug 2009 for a post natal thread sounds good to me

quixotic · 26/07/2009 18:46

Just had a quick read through - been away visiting family after finishing work, hope all having a relaxing weekend. I agree I would like another birth story soon please - someone must be about to pop !

HeinzSight · 26/07/2009 20:51

Kitkat, I'm SO glad you're OK and feeling better, I also hope you've had the dreaded swine flu. There is (as always with swine flu) conflicting advise about whether you can catch it again, some 'experts' say it might change and mutate later in the yr . So far, T O U C H W O O D.... we've got away with it. I have been suffering with a UTI though, taking antibiotics for it, horrid when LO decides to punch or head but my bladder.. ouch ouch!!

Oonagh, It's good to hear bf is going well for you now. Gives me some confidence to succeed this time!

Uki, also your post has made me look forward more to meeting this LO, recently I've been getting myself worked up a bit about PND, which I've had three times. Am praying I escape it this time!

OonaghBhuna · 26/07/2009 21:35

Thanks for the messages re: the tongue tie, I am quite shocked at how common it is and after a very simple procedure it can be rectified. I know that with the pain I was experiencing I wouldnt have been able to continue. I would have been very upset as I BF both DDs.I had never ever heard of tongue tie causing difficulities with BF and I thought that the MW was exaggerating and that it would probably get better etc etc.It makes me wonder how many poor women out there that didnt even realize that this was the cause of all their problems with BF.

I will put up a post natal thread tomorrow.
Heinz- You have us on mumsnet, we can support each other X

kitkatqueen · 26/07/2009 22:35

Hiya Oonagh, I spent about 27 weeks "loitering" if you will at a b/feeding cafe that was set up near me after I had dd1. I had lots of probs with her latch and went along every week, to begin with it was to get help but I carried on going once the problem was solved partly because I had made friends there, partly because it had seemed so much less stressful to me in the begining to get my boobs out when someone else was already feeding their baby so I figured it would help the new mums in a way if I was there feeding dd1.

However I was really, really lucky because sitting there quietly drinking my tea and feeding dd1 I picked up loads of info from the person running the cafe and her trainees on loads of breastfeeding issues facts and all sorts (please don't set me a pop quiz it was a long time ago ). But I still remember one of the ladies who came in had had her sons tongue tie snipped, she was a second timer who had been unable to feed her 1st son for very long because of an undiagnosed tie and you are right - it makes it nye on impossible to feed. Luckily for her it was spotted with her ds1 before she had her ds2 and so she was looking out for it. I was told it does run in families sometimes so vjay keep your eyes open for it this time round.

Heinz Don't let yourself get stressed this time round, the pnd is busy somewhere else and we are here for you. If you get to stressed you'll have to come and visit sunny norfolk To be honest at the moment I still feel like utter poo, I am deffo not myself at all, but I am getting better as is ds so whatever it is at least its going away apparantly it may also explain all of the contractions I have been having so hopefully everything will settle down soon.

How is your dp getting on in his new job? Has MIL come up with the goods yet? I have actually managed to pick up a belt for my sewing machine so the baby might actually have something to go on its bum soon Hope u r ok.

xx

becksydee · 27/07/2009 01:13

thanks for the good luck messages re: seeing the diabetes nurse. the appointment was very straightforward, by the time i saw her i had 24 hrs worth of good blood sugar readings so she was happy to let me carry on as i was - she even started trying to persuade me that i didn't want to try insulin just yet & looked pleased/surprised when i said i wanted to carry on trying to control through diet for a bit longer! apparently some people ask to go on insulin because they think it means they don't have to worry about their diet so much she was very level-headed and sensible which made a nice change after monday's shenanigans. seeing the consultant and the dietician tomorrow morning.

i'm generally feeling a lot more positive now - i seem to have got my blood sugar under control pretty well, even managed to have a roast & a pudding for lunch today (which my mum came down and cooked for me, because she said i sounded so miserable when she spoke to me on monday - bless!). i've talked to my doula and we've formulated a plan a and a plan b for reinstating my original birth plan (or as near as we can get it), so feel happier about that too. DP also talked to his new boss (i.e. chief exec of NCT!) about my situation and got some good advice from her

oonagh - really glad you got ollie's tongue tie sorted, i'm sure he'll start putting on weight nicely now

kitkat - glad you're feeling better

ready - hope things have calmed down now & there are no more scares.

YanknCock · 27/07/2009 10:29

How embarrassing. I phoned the labour ward last night because all of a sudden yesterday, my underwear were completely wet in the front and I started wondering if perhaps I was leaking amniotic fluid. Noooooooo, apparently I just have copious amounts of very watery discharge that escaped my normal precautionary pantyliner.

At least they were very nice and didn't make me feel like I'd totally wasted their time! And we got to hear baby's heartbeat on the monitor for a half hour, and my BP was absolutely fine despite the continued swelling.

DH got a practice run to the hospital in the dark too. We really need to buy a sat-nav before the real thing. Or perhaps keep the local taxi number handy.

becksy, good news about avoiding insulin!

oonagh, great to hear little Ollie is doing well.

kitkat, glad you are feeling better!

sheenaisapunkrocker · 27/07/2009 10:37

Morning all,

thought that D day was here this morning. Regular "contractions" (?) roughly 10 mins apart between 5 and 8 am; then it all went quiet. I haven't even had a show yet, so am I just warming up?

Hawkmoth · 27/07/2009 10:52

I guess this doesn't apply to us, as pregnant women have to see a doctor if they suspect swine flu... but a cautionary tale.

DP's XW is in hospital at the moment. She had fever, aches, loss of appetite and rang the SF helpline. Three days of Tamiflu and she's suddenly in so much pain she can't move. Turns out it was a serious gall bladder infection, NOT swine flu and she's in hospital. I dread to think what could have happened.

So I have youngest DSD as well as DD all week while DP is at work. The 6yo is coming on Wednesday. The two little ones are currently shrieking at each other singing "Bob The Builder"... I just wanted to rest.

The curry (and having sex twice ) led to me having painful BHs every three minutes for most of yesterday. All worn off today, but I'm going to have a bounce on my ball to get the baby moving down.

If DSD's mother ends up having an operation I might be stuck for weeks with four kids on my own - a stunning piece of planning!

Longtalljosie · 27/07/2009 10:54

Hi everyone - Oonagh - am so glad the tongue tie thing is sorted.

Sheena - my friend recently had a couple of false starts contraction-wise before the Main Event - maybe you are too?

So, I was up this morning at 0430 eating cereal - I'm waking around then absolutely ravenous - no matter what I ate for dinner! Is it just me, or is anyone else having this?

martinemorris · 27/07/2009 13:07

Hello ladies,

Just to let you all know that im all ready and packed for tomorrow's c-section. Will hopefully be back on in a few days to let you know how we got on.... Am very worried but sure everything will be OK....

Hope everyone is well,

Martine x

kitkatqueen · 27/07/2009 14:15

Good luck for tomorrow martine!!! Everything will be fab!

Hawk What can I say except oops! I can imagine how you feel. Going from 3 down to 2 for a couple of hours when ds is having a nap is just bliss atm. It'll work out, don't stress just take it as easy as you can.
