Thought I'd start a new thread as No 3 is pretty long now! If anyone knows how to link between the 2 threads can you put one in - I'm not called Jellybrain by accident you know .

Had a job interview yesterday but, haven't heard anything back yet . I don't think my preparation was all that good and was pretty busy over the weekend with birthday party preparations and was consequently shattered.

OP posts:

KMS · 23/07/2005 10:56

Plaesed all was ok Kate100.

My SPD has taken a big turn for the worse and am now on bed rest. If i can't manage that at home they will admit me!! I can hardly walk at all. DH has had to take next week off work. I also think it is because the baby is starting to engage and therefore streching the pelvis apart
I have 2 wks till due date and then ,if the others are anything to go by, will have at least a week after that!
Personally I want to avoid being induced as it increases the risk of needing intervention like forceps, not with SPD thankyou!! I would rather have a couple more weeks of pain than pelvis compleatly recked. I will probably be begging to be induced by due date though!!

josey · 23/07/2005 11:05

hi everyone
thats me back from hols so glad i was sooo tired by the end of it I wouldnt have lasted another day, but saying that enjoyed every second and DS had the best time ever so all worth it. bump seemed to enjoy holiday especially in the swimming pool, i had a lovely massage for mums to be, may sound weird but i felt as though i really connected with the baby as everything was so calming, that will be a good happy place for me in labour,(if im aloud to labour)

Have had a silly amount of BH some of which are quite intense and i can feel a very hard little head right down at my pubic bone, I dont think this little one is really keen on waiting for due date.

I tried to catch up with all thats been going on last night but was too tired to post, glad everyone seems to be ok nice to hear from you beachyhead, Kate100 glad everything turned out ok, and KMS hope you manage to get as much bed rest as poss at home better there than hospital.

kate100 · 23/07/2005 11:54

KMS, I know juat how you feel, the baby's head is really low down in my pelvis and it really hurts in act if I lean forward I can feel the baby's head sticking out in my spine!! Hopefully that means the baby is making its way down and it wll all happen soon, but I'm not gettingmy hopes up too much, I can't cope with the dissappointment when nothing happens. I wouldn't consider an induction if it wasn't for this, but I figure that if I go over my date that's probably what will happen anyway, so why wait. Still hopeful it will happen on its own

fabwife · 23/07/2005 19:35

Hi everyone,
kate re the spd and induction, I agree with KMS and would really try hard to avoid ifpos. I had forceps delivery with no 1 and it was a total nightmare....also I gather that induced labour contractions much more painful than natural ones and might result in you being stuck on monitor - therefore labouring on your back etc.........you really really want to avoid that if possible. I hugely sympathise as am very anxious to deliver myself and keep hoping every twinge is onset of labour - have head so low feel like it's a watermelon pressing somewhere very personal and am doing awful cow like stagger rather than actually walking!
I think all the rushing us off to be monitored in day units pretty awful as every time it happens to me I get very stressed and go home feeling 10 times worse - all I actually want is chance to see my own midwife locally. We live in country area and my midwife won't visit me at home - when we talk on phone she always sends me to hospital despite fact it's 40 minutes away and I have'nt been able to drive for last couple of months (spd). GP's just as bad and often have been unable to find heartbeat so imagine what that's done to my bp!
I love having babies, I love babies and so hate being pregnant.....find it terribly stressful....probably case of too much information. Sympathise with crying on consultant - think actually a sob now and then a healthy way of releasing the tension so just do it and sod them! Does'nt hurt for medics to be reminded we are people not just case notes.

Waved husband and youngest off to a party tonight - fanciedgoing but have been feeling a bit dizzy and strange today and it's too far to go comfortably......feel ludicrously anxious that am about to go into labour and am all alone etc etc....husnabd is sure I'll be here still convinced I'm about to burst forth this timenext week.......hope he's wrong!

Anyonew watching desperate midwives?.....I saw it by chance and was strangely fascinated....made me very emotional when babies delivered. Is it ghoulish watching this now?!

Eulalia · 24/07/2005 10:59

Glad you had a good holiday josey - can I ask where you went?

Regarding inductions - mine was v easy - (2nd preg at 42 weeks). I just needed one dose of prostin and nature took over, very mild contractions to start with and normal birth. I was so overdue I think my body was ready and just needed a bit of gentle encouragement. Hope that makes anyone here facing that prospect happier.

To update on my position - I had my growth scan on Friday and it was fine - baby is average sized. It's just because I am a small build and fairly thin that the bump is measuring small. Since then I've been v busy doing last minute nesting and hardly sitting down.

Only 6 days to (or thereabouts...)

josey · 24/07/2005 15:00

Eulalia we went to Centre Parcs Oasis Whinfell, went with our neighbours and there wee girl that is in DH's class at school as we all shared a cabin it was very reasonable priced, and apart from a few squabbles from the kids everything was brilliant. If we go back which im sure we will there is a few things i would be more orgnaised with, I was very impressed with how clean and safe everything was.

I have just packed my hospital bag, have been having a lot of cramps since last night, so got myself a bit worried I wasnt going to be organised. Still 5 weeks to go so sure im just getting myself worked up over nothing, have my last hospital appointment on Wed cant wait for that.

jantogan · 24/07/2005 19:34

hello all,I hope everybody is OK,did I miss something since last week?
Fabwife welcome, nice to see new friends here( I am little bit late)
Holiday is great idea in this difficult weeks, glad you had a nice holiday Josey.
Last weekend we went to Brighton, everything was perfect, sea water reduced my back pain, but unfortunately DH injured his back when he was playing with his nephew
37 weeks and my baby is very active, last night he kicked me very strongly,i thought something wrong.

Azure · 25/07/2005 09:17

Good morning everyone. My due date is a month today (and 39th birthday 2 months today, groan) - seems like an age compared to some of you. Am I the last one still at work? Sorry about the stressful hospital visit Kate100 and hope you manage to stay at home for as long as possible KMS. I managed to do my side/back/leg in on Friday afternoon, which was incredibly painful everytime I tried to move. I rested as much as I could on Saturday and it felt a lot better Sunday. Tomorrow I have my extra scan because of fluid on the kidneys detected in my 20 week scan and am hoping to see the consultant about a c/section. It would be nice to have a date.

Azure · 25/07/2005 09:19

Oh, and glad you had a nice holiday Josey. We had hoped to go away to a cottage for next week but I haven't been able to find anywhere suitable, despite lots of helpful Mumsnet suggestions. We'll probably spend most of the week with my parents, although I have booked us into the Marriott at Bournemouth for 2 nights so at least DS has a bit of a change these long school holidays.

Em32 · 25/07/2005 10:39

Hello
Just thought I'd join in at the suggestion of Colinsmommy. I'm due on 31 August, finishing work on Wednesday (do 3 days a week), moving house on Wednesday and have a 17 month old ds. I think dd may have engaged but will find out later this week. I was carrying low anyway and now it feels like her head is about to poke out of my cervix (sorry if TMI!)Bit scared she might be early as I am NOT ready. Plus had 7 1/2 hour labour (all in) last time so she may come out a bit quick. Hope everyone else on here is ok.

Hello and welcome Em32. Good luck on your move - hopefully the baby will wait until you're settled in before making an appearance!

fabwife · 25/07/2005 14:15

Hi everyone,
I'm 37 if that makes you feel any better Azure!...what is the age range on this thread?
I was thinking about this other day as my Granny had aunt at 44 and I think it used to be quite common?.......major difference now is that often we have our first in our latish thirties which probably was less common in previous generations.
Am impressed that anyone's been brave and organised enough to manage a holiday at this point of pregnancy - I gave up ages ago and am wondering whether to agree to family ski holiday next Easter. Unsure want to expose tiny person to cold and unsure can cope with holidaying with my in-laws!
Ideally, I would like to go to lovely location in med and loaf around a pool (sigh).

I keep unpacking and repacking hospital bag but will inevitably forget vital items. I found I really wanted things like lipsalve, hair clips etc - I've also bought some'cooling spray' although prefer the old fashioned evian in a can - if anyone can find this grab it for labour as feels lovely.

I feel like issuing a printed sheet for guidance to visitors as last experience completely awful.......MIL moaned incessantly about traffic, parking, not finding my room (barged in without knocking as well which irritated me hugely). At no point enquired about my health or comfort or offered magazines etc.
Mindyou, I hadhuge row with someone elses Granny when I had my 1st, as she took a tour of the entire ward with her grandchildren and showed them every baby - I took offence as felt she was terribly rude and intrusive and invited her to leave my sleeping infant alone and stop bothering all other mummies on the ward. Possibly would be less caustic now I also have older children but she was a bit much and as husband also loud and obnoxious (and permanently on mobile, felt they were all vile!)
Anyone else have roomies from hell post delivery?!
Iam tempted to pay for a private room but put off by cost and knowledge that it will make me fret about the money.......I'm hoping the post baby ward won't be too busy as I will probably be in for 3 or 4 days and it all gets a bit exhausting.

Keep hoping increasingly athletic baby will suddenly kick start labour but no such luck yet .....hope everyone is feeling well today today.

wilbur · 25/07/2005 15:34

Hi all. Well, due date is a week today.... Was convinced I would be early this time, but now I think not. Baby is very low and I have had the odd niggling period pain (different from Braxton Hicks) but don't feel quite ready to drop yet. My brain has totally packed in though - utterly forgetful (I put a banana cake in the oven this morning having forgotten to mix the bananas in, luckily I realised and could scrape the batter out before it started to cook). All is ready here for the birth, thank god, birth pool is up and we had a test out of it yesterday and it was lovely. Needs a bit more air to take all the water I need as I'm taller than average, but otherwise all looked good. Moses basket sitting at the end of the table, looking all clean and fresh with ironed frills (aaaah), and stacks of dd's and ds's baby clothes washed and ready to go. No idea where the sterilizer is but I won't need that straight away and will send dh to the loft for that while he's on paternity leave. Right, got a free hour and I am going to be good and have a nap. If I can remember where my bed is.

wilbur · 25/07/2005 15:36

fabwife - I'll be 37 in a week and a half and no, I don't think it's ghoulish to watch the baby shows, I love them. Some of them are a bit scary but all the babies are so sweeet - nothing like a nuzzling newborn to get the hormones racing!

Em32 · 25/07/2005 16:13

Wilbur
Your post worries me slightly - I've got the same 'not a contraction but not Braxton Hicks' pains, am carrying low and have lost all form of short term memory. But..... I am only coming up for 36 weeks!
I'm 33 by the way if anyone is interested (despite the mn login)

Hi Em. Glad to have another person due on the 31st around here. I just know I'll be the last to go and have nobody left to talk to. Hope all goes well with your move. How stressful for you.

Fabwife-I'm 32 and this is my 2nd (and last) child.

My bump really dropped over the weekend, that's the 1st thing people said when they saw me. But I really don't think the baby's head is engaged, because with DS I remember it felt like he was going to fall out every time I stood up. I had BH last night for almost a straight hour, and was afraid something was going to happen, but they stopped as abruptly as they started.

Dazie · 25/07/2005 17:12

Hi all
glad everyone is still doing relatively well I havent been on for a while but I have been watching to see whats been happening. I cant believe there have been arrivals already!!!

Well at 33 weeks I went into labour after a big bleed thankfully they managed to stop the contrations after two days of pills and two very nasty and painful steriod injections for the babies lungs. I was going to post but didnt want to frighten anyone as it wasnt a nice experience for me or hubby. I have now reached 37 weeks and I am desperate to go into labour as Im soooo tired and fed up!!

I have all the baby things washed and ready to go labour bag is ready and waiting we now just need to think of a name for this poor lad we dont even have a short list yet!! Anyone else having trouble with names??

josey · 25/07/2005 21:52

welcome Em32

poor you Dasiy glad things have held off for you though. We just finaly agreed on names last night, fingeres crossed we dont change our minds.

I reallly dont know what is wrong with me today, im so short fused and what a bad mood i have been in, i have been uncomfortable and niggly im so hormonal its like the worse time of the month ever, DH and DS are staying well clear of me, I even ripped to shreds a insurance salesman on the phone today, whoops!!

Eulalia · 26/07/2005 11:57

Dazie - how awful for you - glad to hear that you are OK now. Yes we are the same with names - 4 days till due date and we are still swithering!

Azure - my baby is due just before my 40th birthday. I hope I am not in hospital then... well I'd have to be pretty late if I am. Whatever I am doing I am having a big glass of champagne!

Back to the nesting....

kate100 · 26/07/2005 17:16

Dazie, poor you, I went through something similar at 31 weeks and am very glad to have made it this far, due on Saturday.

Well,I made it through DS's party on Sunday without going into labour. He had a lovely time and it stopped raining for half an hour so he could play on his new slide, which he loved. Now comes the next onstacle, not going into labour and having the baby tomorrow on his birthday, I'd hate it if they had the same birthday. So no contractions until after his bedtime tomorrow pleasse, then they can come with a vengeance!!

I'm so tired today, i had such bad heartburn last night I couldn't even lie down and was awake until 3 this morning, hopefully I'll get to go to bad as soon as DH gets home tonight. Also my boobs are killing me, I feel as if I could feed any baby that crosses my path, there's definitely a feed in there! Hopefully a good sign. I also had a lucky escape yesterday, just as I was reading the instructions on the lactulose, I felt the overwhelming need to go, so I saved myself from the nasty taste.

Hope everything is going OK, we're almost in the month we're due, so there can't be long to go for any of us

Miaou · 26/07/2005 19:02

Well, I saw my midwife today for the last time before my due date - here's hoping that was my last appointment! Baby is now 3/5 engaged - at this rate I will be another two weeks, argh! We discussed how I was going to get to hospital if I went into labour during the night (the ferry over the loch doesn't operate between 9pm and 7am, necessitating an hour-long drive round the loch) - basically I have to either call an ambulance or sweet-talk the ferry crew!! I am going for the latter option first - they are really nice people.

She also discussed induction options and I requested to go to T+14 rather than the usual T+12, as I really don't want to be induced (I would have to go to the main hospital 2 hours away and wouldn't be able to have a waterbirth or even move around . However I am fairly confident I won't need induction as I didn't the two previous times.

colinsmommy - hehehehe - I remember saying that my second was my last - until about 1 year ago when I changed my mind!!!

Hello Em32, nice to see a new face here

Dazie, your experience sounds horrid, it was very thoughtful of you not to freak us all out as I sure you were pretty freaked out at the time!

Wilbur, I'm getting the "not BH but not contraction" pains too - pretty sure it's just the pressure I am feeling when the baby turns and stretches, though - ho hum!

Names - argh don't talk to me about names! We have a shortlist, but have not got any further than that - I'm sure we will end up deciding when the baby is born and not before!

Glad the b'day party went well Kate - you can now sit back and relax! (well, as much as you can when you are our size!)

Sorry, seem to have written an epic here... - will shut up now!!

BunInTum · 27/07/2005 10:08

Hello all!

Not posted on here for a while but getting so close I need the moral support!! Am 38 weeks tomorrow and pretty much ready for baby. 4/5 engaged and really hoping I dont go overdue as feeling really heavy and uncomfortable with heartburn everyday.

I just do not seem to be able to sleep the last 2 days - is anyone else having this problem? I wonder if its psychological - fear or something or just a weird sign the baby is close. Any ideas?

Azure · 27/07/2005 11:25

Dazie - what a horrible experience for you. Miaou, I hope you're successful in persuading the ferry crew should it be necessary. Kate100, glad DS's party went well - we still haven't arranged DS's for August 27th. Bunintum, good to hear from you again. Eulalia - I bet you never thought you would be celebrating your 40th with a newborn (or even not-yet-born)! With regard to names, DH and I haven't had "the conversation" yet. The names books have been sitting in the living room for several weeks, still untouched. Maybe tonight's the night.

My ante-natal appointment yesterday turned into a bit of an epic. The scan at 10am went well - there was no fluid on the kidneys so that was great news. The baby's current size is estimated at 5lbs something - unfortunately I can't remember the exact weight and it's not in my notes. I then saw the doctor and found my blood pressure was increased. I discussed having a c-section with both the doctor and Registrar, but have to go back next Tuesday for the final go-ahead ("when I'm 36 weeks" - I was only 35+5 yesterday). Anyway, I was sent off to the day assessment unit to have my blood pressure monitored and didn't leave the hospital until almost 3pm - too late to go onto work. My blood pressure stayed high, but I didn't have any of the other concerning symptoms (e.g. no protein in urine) and blood tests taken came back ok. I now have tablets for the blood pressure and need to go back tomorrow afternoon. I took a tablet this morning after getting to work (as I wanted to drive) but it's making me feel a little woozy. Still, I've just had a danish and decaff cappucino, so can cope with the tidying up of my office before I leave Friday.
