Thought I'd start a new thread as No 3 is pretty long now! If anyone knows how to link between the 2 threads can you put one in - I'm not called Jellybrain by accident you know .

Had a job interview yesterday but, haven't heard anything back yet . I don't think my preparation was all that good and was pretty busy over the weekend with birthday party preparations and was consequently shattered.

Monday the 11th would be fine with me DH will also be at home then so he will either dump me on the train and keep DS for the day or he can drive me down and take me shopping later haha!!
Eulalia its so nice that there are so many of us in the area,im convinced there has been a baby boom in the north of scotland, the school secretary pointed it out to me also they are expecting a big intact in the nursery in 3 years now!

azure that is very worrying i hope everything will be ok. its funny how work places seem to have a baby boom im the last in a line of 3 all due with in a month, the first just given birth.

Glad your feeling better Kate100 i know what you mean about the nesting thing its seems really important to get unimportant things organised etc but i cant be bothered with general stuff that i really need to get done.

got on fine at the clinic today, saw a different midwife when she listened into my bellie she asked if i thought it was a horse or a train, to which i said horse and she agreed and said little girl though dont sue me hehe!

colinsmommy · 29/06/2005 15:59

Hi all.

How nice for so many of you to be so close to meet up. Will be thinking of you all then.

Took DS to the beach this weekend. He and his daddy had so much fun making sandcastles. Our playgroup went to a place yesterday where they rescue hurt wild animals around here and either rehabilitate them or keep them depending on their injuries. It was a nice place, but the guide we had was absolutely awful with all of our almost 2 year olds. She kept getting upset that they weren't fast enough in getting from one place to another, and had no attention span. She was very upset that DS was more interested in a small stream than in the otter house by it. We called ahead of time, and they told us they would give us our own special shortened tour, but that didn't happen.

I packed waaaaay too much in my hospital bag last time. I'll probably just throw in a few gowns and a going home outfit for the baby. The hospital has gowns and large pads for me, diapers, natural wipes, pretty much anything you need for the baby there, too. They even have outfits for them to wear, but they look like little straight jackets to me. We're only about 3 min. away, so whatever I need, DH can come home and get.

Twiga · 29/06/2005 16:33

Moday 11th July sounds great - got it penciled into the diary! Either location sounds fine Eulalia, although funky forest is a new one on me - where abouts is it? Feel a bit nervous now, never met any real life mumsnetters apart from people I already know that use the site IYSWIM ! Am available on CAT.

Azure, sounds worrying, hope they can put your mind at rest soon. Do you have long left at work?

Colinsmommy, sounds like you had a lovely weekend - silly guide though . Not had my hospital visit or ante-natal classes yet so not sure what our hospital provide - have bought breast pads and sanitary stuff so far just in case, will get nappies and stuff once I know - seems to vary so much from hospital to hospital.

Rochwen · 29/06/2005 16:47

Yay, it sounds like we're on for the 11th ! Josie why don't you let us know when your train comes in and we'll meet you there?

I'm totally amazed that so many of us North-Easters are in this thread. It's great !

Excuse my ignorance but what is CAT (apart from the popular feline pet?) and how do I do it?

Rochwen · 29/06/2005 16:49

Hey, one good thing is that we're all pretty obvious, no need for yellow roses or copies of the 'Times' when we meet up, lol.

Azure · 29/06/2005 19:21

Update on meningitis scare. All 3 of us with bumps have contacted our midwives & GPs and they all say that with viral meningitis there is nothing to be worried about unless we start to develop symptoms ourselves - it is also rare for it to be passed on. What a relief. Having said that, a week or so off work "just to be sure" would have been appreciated! I've still got 4 weeks to go at work and so much to do in that time.

Rochwen, CAT stands for Contact Another Caller, i.e. using the links at the top of the page to send an email to someone else, while preserving the anonymity of the recipient.

Regarding hospital bag for myself, I shall pack at least 2 nighties (they can easily get, um, soiled), slippers, mega STs, disposable pants, breast pads, face wipes and deodorant wipes, toothbrush etc, towel and a magazine / book. I'm not relying on the hospital having anything. For the labour (unless I have a c/s) I will pack snacks for myself and DH, a flannel for soaking in cold water and dabbing, and possibly socks incase my feet get cold (they did last time, also in August). I must make sure we have change to get a phonecard - you can't normally use a mobile to call from your bed - and prepare a list of phone numbers of people DH needs to call to pass on the news.

josey · 29/06/2005 21:31

haha colinsmommy i remember ds was in one of those gowns when i got back from theater and i remember thinking it as a horrible weird thing to put a baby in.they do look like straight jackets.
Thats a shame about your trip.

Azure good news on the meningitis though i bet you would have ratherd have a week off.

ok that would be good i think the last train i got down got me in at 1pm or 5 past, will need to double check the time tables, and yes i forgot to say earlier im on the CAT.(though never used it) it will be quite amusing seeing so many bumps, i dont know about anyone else but i find alot of pg women together quite scarey we tend to have a look about us, we will scare half of aberdeen
dito twiga on the nervous bit but sure it will be lovely once we all meet.

Miaou · 29/06/2005 21:45

Aw, have a lovely meetup everyone. I would LOVE to come (so near, yet so far!), but it's really too close to my due date and too far from home . Raise a glass to me when you meet!

Eulalia · 30/06/2005 09:40

OK 11th sounds great.

Twiga - Funky Forest is on Anderson Drive - its a soft play area incorporated into a pub just past the old fire station (can't think of the name of it at the moment!) I can email a pic of myself although I guess the bumps will give us away!

Azure - good news on the scare.

Hospital bag - bring notepaper and pen as well - don't think that has been mentioned. And yes a spare nightie or as i am doing taking pyjamas with a couple of spare bottoms. I also pack old pants to go over the disposable ones in case of leakages.

popadopalis · 30/06/2005 10:42

Sorry just thread crashing to say thanks to Twiga for keeping everyone informed about me on my ante-natal thread. Just read your posts, you are a fab friend and I don't know what I'd do without you.

jellybrain · 30/06/2005 11:02

As well as the usual bits and pieces I'll be taking a pillow! There wasn't one on my bed when I had Ds2 and despite requesting one, it never turned up. He was born at midnight so there wasn't any one around to hassle, he slept like a log for the first and last time for circa 3 years and I of course didn't sleep a wink! Was completely shattered by the time i got home.

OP posts:
kate100 · 30/06/2005 11:38

I'm taking a pillow too and a big woolly jumper. It was July when I had DS, but I was freezing cold as my little furnace had left me . Oh and a really old nightie to labour in, I bought a new one last time and it ended up in the clinical waste what a waste!! Also, I don't buy disposable knickers, yuk, just really cheap ones that can be washed and then thrown away in a few weeks, saves my own underwear.

Have been having really strong braxton hicks this morning and they're putting real pressure on one hip, it's a very bizarre feeling.

DS had tonsillitis, so I have a very grumpy toddler on my hands. Poor little thing, he keeps hugging me and saying, 'mommy it's sore'.

Miaou · 01/07/2005 09:51

Aw, poor ds Kate! Hope he feels better soon.

Lots of good ideas for hospital bag. I keep adding things to mine.

After weeks of lying with its back to my left side, limbs to the right, and head down, my db has now decided to turn round so it is lying back to back. . Significantly less comfortable now! I'm hoping it's going to turn round again, but I'll leave it a couple of weeks before I start worrying about it! Problem is, all the things you do to rectify it involve kneeling AFAIK, and my knees are so crap I couldn't possibly do that.

Nome · 01/07/2005 15:35

I've got the opposite problem miaou - db is in the perfect position , but I am measuring 37/38 weeks instead of 34... I feel my VBAC disappearing over the horizon... not that I was set on VBAC mind you, but the recovery time is definitely a factor this time. I now have a growth scan and consultant appt in 10 days time and am trying not to anticipate.

Hope your ds is on the mend Kate - agree with you about the knickers BTW.

KMS · 01/07/2005 23:07

I really must get DH to go up into the loft and get the baby clothes down! Have missed all the great drying weather now! Feel really disorganised this time and dispite being late with the other 3 feel that as my bag isn't packed this time it is sure to come early!!

Had a text from my friend today to say she is a gran! Her daughter had her miracle twins today 6wks early !!

kate100 · 02/07/2005 11:40

KMS what lovely news!! Hearing news like that makes me want to meet my baby even more.

I really need to get my a*se in gear, but I just can't seem to do it. I have nearly finished knitting the baby's blanket, maybe I'll feel more like packing then. I did at least go out and but stuff to put in the hospital bag yesterday, breast pads etc and I have been buying a pack og newborn nappies with the weekly shop, so that's one less thing to worry about in the first few weeks. At least none of the baby clothes needed washing, I put a bar of fairy in with them and they still smelled lovely and fresh. I was really surprised when I found the soap as I had PND when I put them away and I'm surprised I showed such presence of mind. A friend of mine who also had PND got out her baby's things and they were still dirty, I was expecting to find the same.

We're going to the in-laws this weekend, last trip away before the bay comes. The stress will probably bring on labour!! At least DS is all recovered, so MIL will not have an excuse to fuss. He has just given me the most lovely chocolatey smile and said 'Mommy you're nice', I am now basking in the wonderful glow of motherhood.

Can't believe it's less then a month until my due date, my baby might be born this month, although I'm fairly sure it will be next month, but I can say with absolute certainty that my baby will be born in the next month at the latest, which is quite a reassuring thought. Not that I think it's quite sunk in that I'll soon be bringing another baby home, despite the fact it's got its bottom in my ribs at the moment.

Anyone else got horrific heartburn, all of my meals are now followed by a 'gaviscon chaser'!! I don't remember it being this bad with DS. Also I've been feeling really queasy, like morning sickness, but without actually being sick and going all hot and sweaty, very pleasant. Anyone else feel like this?

KMS · 02/07/2005 13:47

Me too, Kate100 to the heartburn and the nausea. I am going off food. (can still stuff down chocolate though!) Still haven't managed any breakfast today! DH has made soup for lunch and I just don't fancy that either. It is just like the early morning sickness feeling, but I know if I eat it will go away but the heartburn will get worse.

spacecadet · 02/07/2005 16:07

just dropping in to see how you all are, cant beleive that your babies will be arriving soon, doesnt seem 2 mins since i was heavily preg this time last year, dd was due 31, but born 20th july, hope you are all keeping well and not feeling too uncomfortable.

Miaou · 02/07/2005 16:26

Just seen the picture of your little dd2 spacecadet - she is gorgeous! Thank you for all the good wishes too .

I'm sorry, I'm not suffering with nausea or heartburn at all ( feel free to at me!) - I think I did all my suffering in the first trimester! Getting tired more quickly now but still got more energy than I expected. I remember the heartburn from my first pregnancy though and you all have my sympathies, it was horrible.

Hope you have a nice break, Kate and the in-laws don't stress you out too much!

Btw, bub seems to have moved back round today - a lot more comfy!

colinsmommy · 02/07/2005 16:39

I'm afraid I don't have much heartburn either, except when I eat too many onions or jalepenos (am craving both of those for some reason, plus French Toast for breakfast!?).

Been on a huge cleaning frenzy, and all is cleaned, bag is packed and the nursery is ready to go. Now I just have to sit back and wait for 2 months.

What are those of you with toddlers doing while you are in the hospital? My in-laws are going to watch DS, but I'm trying to convince DH to come home at night and have DS sleep here. In-laws have a travel cot, but he refuses to sleep in them since he's in his "big boy bed". They have a spare bed, but it is in the room with MIL's scrapbooking and sewing things. Don't really feel like asking them to sleep here, either, when they've got their own house, and I don't see myself changing the sheets while in labor. With DS we both only got about 30 min sleep in the 29 hours I was there, between the baby waking up and all the times the nurses come in to check up on you. I really think DH would be more help if he got sleep and could take care of things when I got home, and I want to give DS as much continuity as possible, since this will be a big change for him. I was petrified of being left alone with DS last time, but after almost 2 years of taking care of him, I think I am able to take care of a baby on my own. We're only about 3 min. away from the hospital, so its not a huge deal to get between here and there. Any thoughts? Sorry for the novel, I just can't figure out what is the best thing for everyone involved.

Eulalia · 02/07/2005 18:12

Glad your ds is feeling better now kate.

Nope no heartburn. In fact don't feel pregnant (apart from the bump of course)... got loads of energy.... sorry... I am just really lucky that way.

Thanks for popping in spacecadet - I can't believe your baby isn't even a year old yet! It took me 18 months to get my periods back after dd.

colinsmommy - last time dh looked after ds. My parents came and slept here while dh was in hopsital while I was in labour. dh was back in time for ds waking up so no problems there. This time I am actually worrying about dh coping with both kids and wondering if I should ask my parents to take dd. Makes my dh sound a bit pathetic but htey are both terribly boisterious and I do 99% of the childcare and there is just so much I know that he doesn't.

blossom2 · 02/07/2005 19:46

Hi everyone...

So i'm 37 weeks now and really ready for baby to pop out. I'm hoping to be the first to start our postnatal post. I've got heartburn and pains in my bump. Baby feels like she's cramped and sometimes really pushes out and it really hurts. Sound strange i know!

Hospital bag all packed but done nothing about nursery or sorting out where she's going to sleep. Its taken me 4 weeks to get the hospital bag packed!!! I've hardly packed anything special this time round - only some clarins shower gel & body oil (presents) so at least i'll smell nice.

Really wish i could meet up with everyone in Scotland but distance and newborn in tow would make it impossible - please have a glass of wine on me! Hope you all have a great time.

xxx

Miaou · 02/07/2005 20:27

Blossom, aren't you 36 weeks? I'm due the day before you (31st July) and have been working on the basis that I have a full four weeks to go yet! I get hopelessly confused by dates though, particularly as dh keeps getting it wrong and putting me a week ahead!

Dh and I were talking about how long I will stay in hospital once the baby is born - there is no pressure on beds there so I assume I won't be pressured into leaving straightaway. I was assuming he would prefer me to be home either the same day or next day, but he reckons I should stay in at least one night or even two! It would be nice to be close to any b/f help I may need to start with, and dh is good at looking after the dds on his own; however I wonder if it might be a bit boring during the day - I shall probably be the only person there most of the time! Anyway we'll see.

colinsmommy and Eulalia - when I was having dd2, my labour went from 11am to 6pm, so dd1 was in nursery for most of the day then stayed with my parents overnight. I'm hoping that my mum and dad will be around to look after the dds when I go into labour this time, but if not then they'll just have to come with us! At 6 and 8 we can leave them in the dayroom unsupervised if needs be. Actually as it gets closer to my due date I am getting more relaxed about it all, in a kind of "que sera sera" way sorry, not much help to you in terms of advice, am I?

blossom2 · 02/07/2005 20:31

No, you're right Miaou, i'm only 36 weeks. Told you i wanted this baby out!!!

Miaou · 02/07/2005 20:37

blossom! Funny isn't it, I was quite content until this week, but getting a tad impatient just now!
