Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MumGoneCrazy · 08/07/2009 15:55

Hiya, hope everyone is well

I havent had a great past 2 days

I had an appointment with my consultant yeaterday to get the results of my GTT which were all normal but that was the only good news i had that day.

They checked my bp and it was high it was 140/95, 2wks before it was 120/75 and 2 wks before that it was 100/60, so its been rising over the past 2 months, which they are concerned about as i had Eclampsia in my last pregnancy resulting in an emerg c-sec at 36wks and ive also been getting migranes, blurred vision and puffy hands and ankles.

They took a blood sample to test for pre-eclampsia but i got to wait a few days for the results

They also did a scan and said they are a little worried about the size of the baby because she's only just on the bottom line, they want to give me steriod injections to help the baby's lungs mature and to help with blood clots as my mother had a very bad blood clot so im at risk of one my first lot are a week monday with more the next day.

The consultant dont think i'll make it past 34-36wks either this time
All this news in one day has shook me pretty badly and am now scared stiff

MumGoneCrazy · 08/07/2009 15:57

Yesterday i meant

Sorry i should read what i write before i post it

mummyhill · 08/07/2009 16:20

Sorry to hear your news MGC.

Ok here goes Am I Being Unreasonable to want to punch the registrar I saw today in the nuts repeatedly for the agony he has caused me. He has diagnosed SPD but in the process has made it worse and I can hardly walk. I ended up calling my mum to fetch me and the kids from school cause I was in soooo much pain!

Snowfalls108 · 08/07/2009 16:26

Hi ladies,

Wonder if any of you have an thoughts on this.
I had scan today, and the sonographer seemed very concerned that the babies head was huge - as in way way over the 99th centile! I'm thinking that I have a pretty large head, and therefore that could explain it. The sonographer was so concerned though that she's booked me for another scan (my 8th!) in 2 weeks time with a consultant sonographer.
Anyone any ideas what the implications could be?
Thanks

bratnav · 08/07/2009 16:41

So sorry to hear that MGC, I hope the blood tests come back ok.

mummyhill, I have the same thing with my MW everytime I go to see her, she asks how the SPD is going, then lies me down for the doppler and measuring, then pokes the joint I would definitely have kicked him hard in the appropriate area

Snowfalls, not the same thing I know, but at my 20 wk scan the femur length was off the chart. I guess you are booked in again to keep an eye on things, but as they aren't rushing you off to a consultant I wouldn't worry too much, maybe the baby's head has grown, and now it's body is going to catch up?

The landlords of our prospective house wont budge on the rent, so we are struggling to decide if we can afford it. This is not helped by every hormone in my body screaming YOU LOVE THE HOUSE, YOU CAN MOVE IN IN UNDER 2 WEEKS AND DO THE NURSERY, MOVE MOVE MOVE

mummyhill · 08/07/2009 16:55

Ohh he also measured fundal height and decided baby is bigger than should be so I have to go back in 2 weeks for more measurements then if still measuring big I will apparently have a growth scan!

I had much easier pregnancies before! Deff not doing this again.

nitnat84 · 08/07/2009 17:29

Poor you Mummyhill and MumGoneCrazy.
Well my hubby just rang to say a work colleague has been diagnosed with SwineFlu. He doesnt know if he should come home to me in case he has caught it and will pass it on to me. He rang the doc who said he didnt know what was best to do! So helpful! So now I am going to worry that I will catch Swine Flu! Great!

mummyhill · 08/07/2009 17:42

Bless. Unless he is working away, chances are you have already been exposed to it but may not come down with it iyswim. Where else would he go?

MumGoneCrazy · 08/07/2009 17:44

Brilliant doc you got there lol

Neddie · 08/07/2009 18:05

Hi all
Long time no post. Sorry to hear about your troubles ladylush but well done to hang in there for so long- keep it up! Everyone seems to be in the wars with various predicaments.
I sympathize bratnav-my landlord just died and I had to go and tell the agents that there was no way I could move before October!
nitnat swine flu what's happening to everyone- if we're not being hit by stray cars, scan worries, leaky bits and boobs, swellings and house moving worries we're swollen up in hot cars.
I feel sorry for all of us. I am only swollen and almost to heavy to get up the stairs ( I think I may have doubled in weight!!) and have ordered a belly and back support for the two little bowling balls I have in my tummy. My blood pressure is still normal but very high for me! Have made it to 30 weeks with twins which I think is good going for my geriatric age! (was 42 on Sunday).

blue76 · 08/07/2009 19:15

mummyhill How did he make your spd worse? Did he poke around a lot? My physio had a good prod 2 weeks ago and it did hurt for a day or so afterwards, but settled down to the usual ache. Did he give you exercises to do? Theyre dead simple and really really help. This is the 2nd pg Ive suffered from spd with, so if there's owt I can help with, just ask.

mgc Thinking of you - I hope you get your results quickly. I hope theyre looking after for you well.

pebblebeach · 08/07/2009 19:23

MGC - that's sounds scary, hope you get the blood results soon.

Mummyhill - at consultant, SPD sounds awful, definitely not being unreasonable.

Snowfalls - not got any advice really, but I guess for there to be a chart with centiles on it, there had to be some babies in the orginal sample group measuring as 99/100th for it to have been made in the first place. Hopefully you'll get more answers, etc from the next scan.

Happy belated birthday for Sunday Neddie - that's not that old! well done for hanging on in there with twins .

Any news from Ladylush, hope you still have baby on board.

mummyhill · 08/07/2009 19:34

Hi Blue,

Yeah he had a good prod and lent on my pubic bone till I cried. He then said oh yes looks like spd shall I refer you to physio? I haven't been able to walk properly since! I am already seeing a physio and have a support belt and some exercises due to my prolapsed disc. I was managing the pain etc quite well with rest when needed and doing my exercises. Because I ended up walking from the town centre to the hospital due to missing my bus I aggravated my back and he noticed me limping so decided to investigate not so gently!

TheTickListQueen · 08/07/2009 20:37

Sounds like the action is heating up for lots of us after the slow 2nd tri-mester. I guess the good bit is Sept is getting ever closer.

MGC - sounds really scary, hope you get good news.

Bratnav - can sympathise with the moving problem. We just bought a house yesterday and I'm so relieved. Have been searching ALL year without joy. Not enough houses for sale round here and too many people looking. We move in on the 7th Aug - just in the nick of time. Can't wait to get all our stuff out which has been in storage since we got here last Sept. Will finally be able to set up the baby's room.

Big day yesterday as I also finally got to sort out a birth plan with the mid-wife (32 wks today). I could be induced between 38-40 weeks if there are problems or the placenta doesn't hold up. Common with diabetes. Hope not but it could be worse.

peachygirl · 08/07/2009 20:42

Gosh MGC I hope everything will be OK.

We still don't know whats happening with DH and work and it's really starting to annoy me ( and him no doubt)

I don't know if I am able to book DD into nursery as I had held off as I didn't know what sort of income we would be on. We had thought That if h e had a job we might sneak away for a few days somewhere but again .. have no idea whether we can or not. GRRRR

LittleCheese · 08/07/2009 21:27

Hi Ladies

So sorry to hear all the worrying things some of you are going through. Really puts my self pity into perspective.

I think I may have SPD having read the descriptions of it it sounds very similar to the pains aches I have been feeling however midwife was very dismissive when I mentioned how much pain I was in and said it was just pressure from extra weight. I wish she had taken a little more interest as I am more worried about what to avoid doing to make it worse.

DD (30m) fell down an entire flight of stairs last night. It was horrible I felt so sick but luckily she is fine just a little carpet burn on her forehead could have been much worse.

Are any of you ladies taking or thinking of taking raspberry leaf? I just recieved mine this morning.

blue76 · 08/07/2009 22:17

Mummyhill - bloody men, is all I can say. Make sure you've got a good birth plan etc as there are positions that MUST NOT be used when giving birth. I've got a list here that the physio gave me:
Put a shopping bag under your bum in the car so you can swivel out with your legs together.
Keep legs together when rolling over in bed.
Avoid heavy lifting and delegate household chores especially vacuuming
Avoid breaststroke when swimming.
Frozen peas wrapped in a damp towel on pubic bone. 15-20 mins at a time.
When standing from a seated position, try squeezing buttocks together.
labour advice for spd
Before your due date, ensure your mw knows your 'pain free gap'. This is a measure of how far you can part your knees without pain when you lie with your knees bent. [This is esp important if you have an epidural, as you won't be able to feel anything and could cause a lot of damage to yourself].
Lie on your side with someone supporting your leg.
Or you might want to try supported kneeling upright.
Squatting during delivery is not advisable as it can strain the pubic joint.

Sorry for waffling - I've just copied that from the sheet I was given by the physio. Don't let mws brush it off - it really can cause problems. Also, spd gets worse with each child.

Ladylush I hope you're ok!

mummyhill · 09/07/2009 07:28

Thanks Blue. I have never had it before so am learning quickly. I am used to pain in the sacral area spreading out across the glutes and down my legs due to where my prolapseed disc is and the belt and exercises I have atm are for that. I have a wedge under my bump and pillows for my legs to try and keep everything in correct alignment and have had since early on as it is important for my back let alone this. I never knew it was possible to feel that much pain in that part of my anatomy without actually being in labour iyswim! If I can get the kids to school my mum will collect them so I am going to waddle to the bus stop and then take them the 3 stops to school, hand dd over to a friend and hitch a lift to nursery with another very good friend. Will have to bus back from nursery but will stop off at gp on way through to get a note for work and try and book in with my physio. Is there anything else I can do to help myself other than going to bed when I get back?

LizLemon · 09/07/2009 09:05

Morning all

Sorry to hear of various scan troubles and spd nastiness.

Re Swine flu - my friend who's a teacher and pregnant has been doing some research into it, and there is an inhaled version of tamiflu called Relenza, which doesn't affect the baby at all, which is something. She's been signed off work to the end of term now, as 7 kids in her class have it and she thinks that's far too close for comfort, not to mention she's asthmatic and might not be able to take Relenza. She talked to so many people and every single one of them had different advice about what she should do - think the drs don't have a clue, to be honest.

Went to yoga yesterday and it was great - well, slightly hippy-fied - but focused on good positions for getting through contractions and breathing exercises. Found myself almost looking forward to it.

Also cleaned the bathroom and found it made my bump ache so I'm giving that up

ladylush we're all thinking of you and hoping everything is ok

Ladyem · 09/07/2009 09:28

MumGoneCrazy Oh no, hope the results from the blood tests come back ok and that DC holds on as long as possible. That's a lot of information to take in in one day and I'm not surprised you were stressed out. Got my fingers crossed for you.

Snowfalls108 my friend had exactly this problem and they left her 4 weeks before re-scanning her, so after this awful wait they got her in again and all was fine. She was told that there can be a 20% error in the measurements!! Hopefully this will be the case with your LO and all will be fine.

I can sympathise with all of you SPD sufferes, I got it with my DD and have had twinges this pregnancy, but it has really taken hold the last couple of weeks. I was refered to physio at 24 weeks, I'm now 32 and still had nothing despite MW chasing it up!!! Am in real agony trying to turn in bed and getting out of bed. Also when I stand it feels like the baby might fall out!! Lol!!

Finally saw my consultant this week (not seen him since 12 weeks) and it turns out I might not have to have a c-section after all!! (DD was born with shoulder dystocia, so they recommended I have a c-section this time). Having a growth scan in 4 weeks to make final decision, so just holding tight until then, but at least I know I have options now!!!

MumGoneCrazy · 09/07/2009 10:56

Morning all

Today not looking good for me woke up with a banging migrane and blurred vision have an appointment with midwife in 2 hrs to check bp and i dont think its looking good.
Vision is a bit better i can see but have small black dots in front of my eyes so mainly have to look out of the corners of my eyes.

LizLemon · 09/07/2009 12:04

Oh that's rough MumGoneCrazy. Hope you get some good news from the midwife.

cautiousmumtobe · 09/07/2009 12:12

Hi everyone. I haven't been on for a while but managed to find the new thread and scan through all the posts. Like the title of the new thread - scary but on the other hand, have had enough of being pregnant.

So sorry that loads of you seem to be having a really hard time at the moment. Makes my complaints about indegestion, lack of sleep and fed up with work pale into insignificance. I hope things start looking up and some good news comes out over the next few weeks as we all find that those adjustable trousers are on the last button!

MGC - so sorry you are having a rough morning. Fingers crossed for a lower bp when you see the mw.

Blue - I think you were asking a few days ago who else was on the Wirral. It's me!

I think that things are going OK for us. I had a growth scan last week and baby was pretty much spot on for dates so that's good news. We are back at the beginning of August for another growth scan just as final check and then hopefully will just be waiting for littluns arrival.

On the movement stuff, I find it easy to get really paranoid about it but I think that when you are working or busy taking care of other little ones at home, the movements just don't register the same. When I was sat quietly watching TV on Tuesday evening, baby seemed to go nuts and wriggle around everywhere. I think it was just that I was calm and paying attention. I remember from dd that you are supposed to count the movements and get 10 a day or phone mw for advice. Some days I will have 10 before I've got out of bed and others I'll get to the end of the day only remembering having felt about 2!

TigerFeet · 09/07/2009 12:27

Fingers crossed MCG, I hope this is just a blip.

I had a back support and a crutch due to SI joint problems but for some reason (maybe the way the baby's lying or down to weight loss) my back really hasn't been too bad recently. I'm feeling SPD twinges but nothing horrendous (yet!).

Sympathies to those of you who are having to move... all I have to do is clear out the spare room and that seems too much at times

Re the public spew... the staff in Asda were lovely, real angels, but dh nearly decked this one bloke who tried to push me out of his way mid chunder to get something from the shelf behind me . I've been feeling a bit sorry for myself tbh, I had three weeks or so of feeling better and this week I've been sick a lot and feeling quite rough. I've put it down to being tired. But we will not be downhearted... one more week at work, then I have a week off - then another three weeks and ML starts

GTT results came back fine. Growth scan in about three weeks or so.

Hope everyone has a good day. We seem to be getting to the business end of things now don't we?

mummyhill · 09/07/2009 16:08

Been to see Gp and he has signed me off for 2 weeks, called the hospital about physio and I should get a call back tomorrow! Apparently if I don't get any relief from physio and a bit of rest he will sign me off till my mat leave starts as there isn't another job they can transfer me over to for the next 5 weeks!
