Caitni · 27/06/2009 10:04

Hi DontTry I am indeed Irish (Cork ) but live in London. Sounds like a plan re telling your SIL.

BellasYummyMummy · 27/06/2009 10:08

i agree with caitni, i would hold off telling her for awhile

TakeLovingChances · 27/06/2009 17:21

So far, I've told one person (best friend) and that's it! Going to tell my mission trip leader this weekend, and tell my uni tutor on Monday (eek!!)

So there are at least 3 Irish girls on this thread! Donttry, Caitni and me! I'm in Northern Ireland.

Luck of the Irish, eh?!

oscarsmumm · 27/06/2009 19:14

hi oscarsmumm and congratulations

Can I join the Irish gang? I'm not Irish but my DH is (Dublin)- will that do?!

DTTAH - v. v. difficult situation re your SIL but caitni's advice seems a very sensible way forward.

BellasYummyMummy · 28/06/2009 09:24

morning lovely ladies, how is everyone today?

donttrythisathome · 28/06/2009 10:42

No symptoms...I'm off to the 4 weeks and bricking it thread for a look to get myself nice and panicked

Its an Irish conspiracy! Caitni I am from the people's republic (of Cork) too, but escaped to Sussex.

The rest of you can pretend to be Irish if you like

Just adding myself to the list....
5 weeks tomorrow, and still feeling queasy most evenings. Off to watch Take That in concert tonight - hope there's plenty of Portaloos! First time of making up a "not drinking" excuse....cunningly going to say we had a few too many last night so I'm taking it easy, plus work in the morning etc...reckon I'll have them all convinced??!

BellasYummyMummy · 28/06/2009 15:22

DTTAH- i dont have any symptoms yet so dont worry! 1/3 of women dont have ms. i had slight ms with my DD but it didnt kick in til about 5/6 weeks.

TakeLovingChances · 28/06/2009 16:49

I feel queasy after lunch! Have done the past few days anyway. I know that ms isn't always a 'morning only' thing, so I'm not worried! Also, I'm coming down with a cold, so all round feeling quite , but also very to be pregnant!

I thought I'd add myself to the list too...
Currently 5 weeks today and lying in bed feeling truly sorry for myself as the Monster MS has kicked in 3 weeks earlier than last time.

DH popped his head around the bathroom door to officially declare me preggers when he heard the chundering.

To any of you ladies feeling a little short-changed on the symptoms front, you are very welcome to come to my house and collect your fair share of nausea - I'm a generous lass & nobody in need will be turned away

Doctorskidaddle · 28/06/2009 19:51

LOL missiemoo - I second that - MS, exhaustion and splitting headaches going for grabs if anyone is interested... plenty to share round

onlyanauntie - think that sounds pretty convincing - hope you got away with it. How were Take That?

My way round the drinking thing is to accept drinks and pretend to sip them, and if possible swap with DH when no-one is looking so it looks like I've drunk some. However earlier on when I wasn't feeling as sick as a dog, I accidentally drank some out of habit - only a couple of gulps though - I'm sure the baby didn't notice!

369thegoosedrankwine · 28/06/2009 20:18

A bit of background about me - I am in absolute shock! I have a 2.7yo DS and it took a while to conceive him. With this in mind DH and I wanted to TTC towards the end of this year. I had my coil removed in April, we have been 'careful' as we are going to my brothers wedding in America in 3 weeks (and I am bridesmaid ) and lo and behold I am pregnant.

I am thrilled of course but it hasn't really sunk in yet. I am just so surprised. (Do I keep saying that?)

Symptoms so far are burping a lot, sore boobs, a little nausea and oh sense of smell like a blood hound.

Doctorskidaddle · 28/06/2009 21:12

congratulations 369 - what a (lovely) shock! I have a friend who did something similar - took 5 years to conceive no.1 so didn't use contraception for TTC no.2 and got pg when DD1 was 3 months old!

I also have the best sense of smell in the world - which is usually not a good thing - e.g. I can tell when DH has had a poo without going anywhere near the bathroom I had this when pg with DD as well. I can also tell when people haven't had a shower and the smell of DS's head which i used to love more than anything in the world now makes me want to barf
Ah the joys of pregnancy

369thegoosedrankwine · 28/06/2009 21:43

Thanks DoctorS.

The smell thing is fascinating, although I agree that it isn't always welcome.

I am trying to resist the eat everything in sight urge that overcame me with DS1. ( - i put on 4 and a half stone when pg with him ). I vow to eat better in this one.

Let the joys continue...

PotPourri · 29/06/2009 09:30

Hi everyone. Congrats!! I'd love to join too. My other babies were late (had to be induced) so I am saying 1 March as my due date even though it is really in February.

MS is well kicked in - and this heat wave is a nightmare - I seem to be worse in the heat. I basically need to eat all day to keep it at bay. It's all savoury that I am after. And the smell thing is tough going. Can't wait til the blooming stage!

Big congrats to everyone. Look forward to getting to know you all. x

Hi,

The feeling emotional and crying at everything stage has kicked in I was almost crying last night, for very little reason. Pesky hormones!

I changed this around so that we're in order of EDD, makes it nice and neat for people to add themselves in.

Morning ladies

Hope you all had a good weekend and enjoyed the sun.

Big welcome to Oscarsmumm MissieMoosMummy OnlyanAuntie (not anymore!) Horsiemummy 369thegoosedrankwine and Potpurri - congrats on your BFPs! And thanks to TLC on organising the list in EDD order (my inner organiser salutes you!).

369 how wonderful that you got your BFP so quickly this time!! Yay!! You'll have a lovely age gap between your DS and this LO .

Potpurri I know what you mean about the heat. I'm surprised my how hard I'm finding it this early on (and it makes me feel sorry for more heavily pregnant women I see out and about)

DrS the smell thing is mad isn't it? Know what you mean about being able to smell whether there's been any poo action in the bathroom [bleugh emoticon]. Have you had any sort of change in taste? I tried some OJ yesterday and it just tasted wrong...couldn't finish it .

I've still got no morning sickness (4+6 today) and got a telling off my from my DH this morning for saying "god, I wish I had some morning sickness to make this all feel more 'real'" . MissieMoo and DrS you better be careful, or I'll be sneaking over to your place to steal some of your MS! Still, I'm knackered, have a sense of smell like a bloodhound, when I'm hungry I'm RAVENOUS and am now getting the odd twinge down low so I feel like something is happening . I spent yesterday afternoon in a pub for lunch (started at noon, left at 5 pm!) and just stayed on the lemonade. I decided not to make up any excuses about not drinking as I figured that would make it look even more suspicious (have been a bit of a lush in the past ). What are you ladies doing about the non-drinking? Any excuses of the "oh I'm on antibiotics and can't drink" variety? Or just not making a thing out of it and hoping to slip by unnoticed?

I'm off to see my GP this afternoon.

Dalrymps · 29/06/2009 11:25

Hi ladies, mind if I join?

We've been ttc #2 for 7 months and finally got my bfp on sat (well, actually I tested about 3 days before that and got faint lines and used several test but the one I took notice of was sat's as that was a definate line and af was late by then)

It's still sinking in, feels so unreal. I'm very worried at the moment as I don't have any symptoms at all...

With ds I had sore breasts by now but nothing. My breasts got bigger before af was due which prompted me to test but they've calmed down a bit now. Hope the little bean sticks

Anyway, i'm 4 wks 3 days today

Dalrymps · 29/06/2009 11:48

By the way has anyone contacted their gp/midwife yet? Last time I just went to see the GP and they put me in touch with the midives. However, I just read on the NHS website you should contact a midwife direct but then it also says 'your gp can put you in touch with a midiwfe'

369thegoosedrankwine · 29/06/2009 12:13

Dalrymps - I called my docs surgery this morning and asked for a booking in appointment with the midwife which they have made for me on 21 July when I'll be 8/9 weeks.

Caitni - I am absolutely starving at the moment, I swear I could eat 10 meals a day. I was like this last time but I really want to eat sensibly this time (and try and fit into a bridesmaid dress in 4 weeks).

On the not drinking front, I have my sis-in-laws hen party this weekend. I am going to tell a few very close friends that I am pg and to just tell everyone else that I am drinking 'vodka' and orange, but actually keep to soft drinks.

PotPourri · 29/06/2009 12:40

I went to the GP who kinda told me that I didn't really need to see her, as you refer yourself these days. No harm done, but just ring the doctors surgery and ask what you have to do.

On the drinking thing, I have used the antibiotics thing, or drive so that you don't even need to make up an excuse at all. The other thing is that you could be 'off it', health-kick or whatever. If it is people you don't know well, just say you don't drink. I also say I don't have the energy these days for the hangovers - which is true anyway.

Have changed my EDD to 1st March too Potourri (good idea) - was feeling like a bit of a fraud with my Feb up at the top all on it's own!

Congrats dalrymps and Potpourri

caitni - yes I have completely gone off coffee (resulting in a two-day headache - I was clearly addicted ), and have been craving sweet stuff. Today i bought a can of fizzy juice for the first time in about 5 years!! Have you been craving anything yet?

Re drinking - I am going to have a right mare with it as we are going up to Durham tomorrow for our PhD graduations (me and DH) - we will stay nearly a week and see my mum, dad, stepmum and ILs all of whom will ,presumably, be wanting to toast us with champagne etc... don't know what on earth to do. Don't mind telling my mum but don't want to tell the others as I absolutely wouldn't want to have to tell them if I lost the baby. I suppose I could do the ABs thing but they know we have been talking about another DC and I'm sure they will twig - maybe I will just have to come clean?

I don't want my ILs thinking I am a lazy old bint either if I keep going for a rest, having lie-ins and want DH to change nappies because it makes me puke etc - aaaaghhh!

BellasYummyMummy · 29/06/2009 17:58

i;m not feeling pregnant at all then again i think i am only just 4 weeks. i can sympathise with the hunger thing, when im hungry ive been starving and have had a few twinges down below but thats all. my DD is very irritable in all this heat and she is refusing her afternoon naps so is a joy by this time.... .

re: drinking, maybe say you just dont fancy it?or get a soda water or lemonade and pretend its got vodka in it (just make sure no one goes to the bar to get you a refill!)

i havent called gp/midwife yet. when i went to the GP last time she told me to contact the midwife. I had an appointment for about 11 weeks but then had to cancel it, i dont know if i should just wait til im further along or make an appointment (i dont know how far in advance you have to book?).

finding work stressful, i work in a lab and generally if your pregnant you stop going in, but i dont want my team to know just yet so have been trying to do the minimal amount in there but today was a very hectic day. DD having a screaming fit so must dash!

369thegoosedrankwine · 29/06/2009 20:47

Hey DrS - Congrats on your PhD. I live about 20 mins from Durham and travel through there on my way to work. Be warned that it isn't as lovely and sunny up here as it is in the rest of the country. Foggy and muggy is how I'd describe it....good luck with the stay and the excuses on not drinking.

Bellas - I find working and pregnancy hard but more due to the fact that I have lost motivation this week. I am preoccupied by pregnancy, feeling sick and food .
