Monkeys - Really sorry for you. Good luck with ttc.

Chubby - I am so sorry that you are still in limbo. Good luck for Friday.

Feel tremendously insensitive posting this now, but I had my scan today and all is well. I am 8 weeks and the heartbeat was visible. I am so relieved and can start to believe that I am pregnant now. The doctor was fantastic and told me to call up in a couple of weeks and we can have another look and see how I'm getting on.

MS is getting slightly easier as long as I continue to eat very very regularly (every hour at least) and don't get too tired.

On the homebirth discussion, I can appreciate why it is a good thing for some, but it is a definite no for me. DS was undiagnosed breech (until I was about 6cm and on my second visit to the labour ward) so in the words of the midwife 'You would've been a blue light job' had I been at home. Very very small risk of this (undiagnosed breech) ever happening but I actually felt secure and in good hands in hospital and had to have an em-c-section.

My take on the swine flu and pregnancy (having had it - or so the doctor thinks) is to look out for symptoms but not to panic too much. I had it for about a week but I fought it off with no medication at all.

Monkeys so sorry.

Monkeys so sorry.

Arcadie · 20/07/2009 20:58

369goose not insensitive. We're all going to go through really good times and really bad ones. No point hiding either. Very pleased for your little heartbeating person.

I had an induction 1st time round and was so excited about the possibility of a homebirth 2nd time round. Much easier I thought to have your 1st LO tucked up in bed than farmed out to chums. But then I needed an induction 2nd time as well. Not sure whether to even bother trying for a homebirth this time.

Poppyjen · 20/07/2009 21:03

Hi Ladies, just checking in to say that I had my scan today - everything is in the right place so that's a relief. Baby is too tiny to see yet, but they spotted the yolk sac inside the gestational sac which is good news . They reckon I am between 5 1/2 to 6 weeks so that's completely normal apparently.

I have a follow up appointment a week on Friday (31st) to see how things are getting on so hopefully we'll see a lot more then and have a bit of a better idea about dates.

It's all starting to feel a bit more real now.....

PJ x

Dalrymps · 20/07/2009 21:14

Monkey - So so sorry to hear your news . Hope it is over soon and you concieve again quickly. Take care and look after yourself x

Cheepz · 20/07/2009 21:29

Maybe a stupid question but it seems like you are all getting scans way earlier than me - I won't have one until 12 weeks according to the guidance from my local surgery - am seeing the doctor tomorrow for initial booking in session. Is it to do with where you live and which NHS trust you are dealing with?

pureeandpearls · 20/07/2009 21:32

Cheepz- I may have fabricated date confusion to get mine ....you need three mc here to get an early one and I've 'only' had two and wanted the reassurance.

Poppyjen · 20/07/2009 21:37

Hi Cheepz I was referred for scan early because I had cramps and pinching pain (not severe, but niggling) mostly on my right hand side so they wanted to rule out ectopic. The follow up is just routine I think as they can see it's not ectopic now, thank goodness.

Monkeys, so sorry if my post seemed insensitive, I posted without reading everything through properly. So sorry to hear your news . Hope someone is looking after you properly.

donttrythisathome · 20/07/2009 21:46

Sorry Monkeys [sad}

I am toying with the idea of a homebirth or birthcentre. But how bad would a transfer in be?

scooby26 · 21/07/2009 07:15

Cheepz-its 12wks in northeast but my own midwife has said that if u feel sharp pains on 1 side they wil wory about ectopic and scan as a precaution.that was said 2 me when i asked if there woz any way of an early scan-hint hint.apparantly lots do it. I guess it woz a sympathetic mwife!

RetroMum1 · 21/07/2009 08:25

Hi All

Sorry I've been keeping away to try and stay positive but yesterday I had an early scan at Kings and like PoppyJen they could just see a yok in a sac but no heartbeat. They said this was normal as too early but I went for my scan at the same point as I did with my DD 6+0 and there was a heartbeat with her.

The scan was also quite uncomfortable which it hasn't been in the past and had a large bright red bleed immediately afterwards and still having crampy period like pains with brown blood now.

Really upset as my bleeding had stopped over a week ago and even then it was only tiny tiny amounts. I'm now sure it is MC and really angry at doctor who did the scan as I knew he was being rougher than they normally are and should have said.

RetroMum1 · 21/07/2009 08:27

Oops forgot to say I have another scan at a different hospital on Friday and then hopefully they'll do the ERPC that day so I can start again.

Just upset and want it done with now as i still have really strong symptoms of sore boobs and being sick each morning.

pureeandpearls · 21/07/2009 08:33

So sorry Monkeys and Retromum- it's hideous and I wish I could take away your pain xxx

Sariska · 21/07/2009 10:13

Oh, Monkeys and RetroMum, I'm so sorry to hear your news. I hope you both have lots of RL support during this difficult time. All the very best - and I hope you're both on another ante-natal thread very soon.

Donttrythisathome, I was adamant that I wanted a birthing centre birth with my DS despite the fact that any problems would have meant a transfer to a particular hospital that I really didn't want to go to. Everything went very well until transition when my contractions pretty much stopped as DS had turned back-to-back. Eventually we had to transfer to hospital (no blue light; the midwives didn't let it get to an emergency situation) - and it wasn't too bad. They got things going again and DS was born unassisted. And the experience has not put me off planning another birthing centre birth this time.

Cheepz · 21/07/2009 10:22

hello all thanks for info on early scnas - saw doctor this morning and since everything very normal, no pains etc will be a long 12 week wait for me.

thoughts and hugs to Monkeys and RetroMum, and fingers crossed for the next time. xx

Caitni · 21/07/2009 11:21

It's really sad to read people's bad or worrying scan news - these early months are such a rollercoaster. I never appreciated the level of anxiety in early pregnancy until finally getting pregnant myself...

Chubby to hear that still no heartbeat but it's understandable that growth like that gives you a glimmer of hope. I'm sorry you're still in limbo and hope you're getting a lot of rest and tlc.

Monkeys So at your news - take care of yourself xx

Retromum I'm also sorry to hear your news . I'm also sorry that the scan itself was painful, I'm that a sonographer would be rough with such a scan. Take care of yourself

369 wow at getting over swine flu! Well done you . My husband had it and I was paranoid but seem to have avoided it (but am now almost obsessively washing my hands/using antiseptic wipes after using the tube etc). And congrats on seeing the heartbeat - it's such a relief. I'm 8 weeks today and am already wishing for another scan after my one a week ago.

Poppyjen am glad you had good news at your scan and hope you get a lovely view on 31st

DrSkid great news your friend is also pregnant at the same time as you - I'd love that! It will be great to have company on maternity leave and also babies who are so close together

Tigress glad there's only one little cub in there . We also had a high risk of twins after IVF and I was relieved when we just saw one sac (though would have loved twins too of course!)

Donttry and Tigress I've also thought about a homebirth (my MIL had three of her four, including my husband, at home in the 70s and recommends it for straightforward births) as we're not too far from the hospital. In fact, I chose that hospital as its proximity means I can consider a homebirth. But it also has a midwife led birthcentre which I'd also be very happy with (with the added reassurance that the consultant led unit is right next door). I'm also thinking about a hypnobirthing course, as it seems to help reduce the need for intervention. Luckily we've loads of time to think about it and it's useful to read other women's experiences (the joys of MN!).

Waves to everyone else - hope you're all well (and coping with MS/exhaustion)

Josie22 · 21/07/2009 12:05

Hello - haven't been on for awhile as doing anything at all seems to make me nauseous. Eurgh even typing. Not actually throwing up but having slightly dodge tummy - is that normal? Saw docs yesterday and he gave me a list of 4 hospitals to choose from - any ideas how I would go about this? Also whats a birth centre?

Chubbymummy - I am so sorry that you are having to go through another painful week of waiting.

Retromum - so sorry to hear about your bad experience. Take good care of yourself.

Poppyjen - glad your scan went well.

Think I might have to leave it here as feel too crap to carry on. Hello to all I have missed out - sorry am so pathetic at the mo.

Josie22 · 21/07/2009 12:06

Just re read last line - sound so pathetic - ignore me just wallowing in self pity!

Walnut8 · 21/07/2009 12:37

Hi everyone

I've been hanging back reading the posts and have finally decided to join the thread. I'm six weeks and a few days now ... had a miscarriage at about 9 weeks with my first pregnancy (picked up at 12 week scan), this is my second, I think I'm due around 14 March, but I'm not getting too excited and still a bit nervous about the whole thing. I'm really sad to read about the miscarriages so far on this thread, i know how hard they are.

I still haven't booked into see a GP despite everyone telling me I should (and am not registered with a GP where I am at the moment-seems like a hassle as we are moving back into London in a couple of weeks time & been stressed and busy with organising that). Not sure now whether to bother trying to fit in a GP appointment here around inspections and moving or just to make an appointment in the new area for when I move. Is it going to be ridiculous to try to organise it all at 8 weeks? Hmm.

anyway, just wanted to say hi!

Carrie2010 · 21/07/2009 12:39

Hello all,

I'm a newbie to this group. I am due on 7th of March with my first one. I have had a few m/cs before so will be putting myself tentatively on the list - hopefully. Will have my follow up early scan this Thursday and will pop over again to introduce myself properly then if all goes well.

Sorry to hear about your bad news Monkeys and RetroMum!

Cheepz ? the reason I got an early scan was because all pg symptoms disappeared and I panicked..

Carrie

Caitni · 21/07/2009 14:33

Josie I had a similar dilemma re hospitals - had four to choose from in London. I found quite a lot of info on MN in the pregnancy topic (I just searched the talk messages) and used that combined with things like how far away it is, whether it has a midwife led birth centre or does consultant led care only. Does seem kind of surreal to be choosing at this early stage!

Walnut welcome and congrats on your BFP . And well done organising moving along with early pregnancy - I've been so knackered it's all I can do to make it work each day! I'd say just wait until you move to arrange a doc's appointment. It only takes a few days to get registered and 8 weeks is still plenty of time to get your 12 week scan and booking in appointment organised.

Caitni · 21/07/2009 14:35

Carrie god, sorry for completely missing your post! Hello and welcome to you too . I understand your trepidation after having had M/Cs but I really hope this bean is sticky and you're here for the long haul .

kay1980 · 21/07/2009 15:24

So sorry to hear your bad news Monkey and Retromum. Poppyjen I was so relieved after I saw the results of your scan as I have been for one today as I was having a little bit of pain in one side and as I have had an ectopic before I was panicking a bit. Anyway I am about 5-6 weeks and all they could see was the sac with the yolk which was good but no baby they did say to me that it was too early but I'd convinced myself that there was no baby there. I've got to go back two weeks today and be scanned again so hopefully I will see a little heart beating then.

Cheepz · 21/07/2009 17:04

i am just remembering how long this first 12 week leg is ... excited but can't tell anyone, tired but have to keep going, feel anxious or sick or crampy but have to act normal, want confirmation that everything is ok on a weekly basis but have to wait and see

especially since its only day 2 after finding out for me I am having to work from home so I don't blurt it out to any of my friends at work!

also have started to wonder whether I will have enough love for the second - i love my little boy sooooo much and when i looked at him this morning i wondered how i will find enough love for another child, whether i could ever love another child as much!! i have read that this is not uncommon but it scares the scrap out of me...
