Hello you lot

I'm hot. It is now officially 'too hot'. I actually felt a bit unwell this morning when dropping off children at school and nursery. That's not like me: must be a pregnancy thing.

Foot and Mouth? Where does your mum work ErikaMaye?

I love reading about everyone's exploits and experiences. Glad I'm not the only hot person. Bump is growing here too.

Better go, DSs need a nice cool bath!

helips · 02/07/2009 19:51

Oh beep beep how funny that we picked the same girls name! I love Matilda but now am worried that it will be too popular. Mind you, my ds is a Harry and that's not exactly uncommon is it Glad the scan went well too.

usigurke enjoy your trip to Vienna, try not to let those pesky in-laws bother you, you are only going for 4 days and you need to be relaxing not spending the whole time travelling!

erika good luck at the CAB next Monday, hope it finally gets sorted, I think you have done the right thing cancelling your dd, serves them right!

Hi there broodzilla love the name Lukas, it's a great name for a boy (mmm might run that one past dh )

I have had a busy old day today, took ds to the farm and then swimming, I am seriously knackered! Those pesky wood pidgeons better not start up again tomorrow as i need ds to lie in!

beepbeep · 02/07/2009 20:17

Helips - get a gun!!!!

ErikaMaye · 02/07/2009 22:52

Helips - I'll come round and wack them with my walking stick if you want... Pidgeons are afraid of walking sticks, I've found. The buggers always stay away from me now!!!

Beepbeep - she works in a playgroup. Feel really bad for the children who are ill, and the ones that might be, poor little mites. Midwife said I'm okay as long as I'm in no direct contact. So going to watch my mother like a hawk for the next week!!!

Koumak · 03/07/2009 09:28

Good morning all!

Definitely NOT hot today rather grey in London. Am stuck in the office all day every so it?s not like see any sun during the week anyway. No tan whatsoever - dermatologist would be very happy with me! No sunny streaks in my hair either. Looks I will have to be paying for those this summer!

BBL I felt really ill yesterday too. Sometimes I get it when the pressure changes, it could've been that?

helips Matilda was on my list too but dh was very no no about it. Also have nesting pigeons on the side of neighbours? house. My ds thinks they are lovely?but they make so much noise. PESTS!

beepbeep · 03/07/2009 09:43

Koumak - v ery grey in Oxfordshire too, been raining over night, but unfortunately still SOOO hot and muggy. Got some fruit tarts to bake for DS's party and not the best having the oven and gas going!!

ErikaMaye · 03/07/2009 10:33

Yup, grey down here in E. Sussex, too... Quite a relief actually - theres even a breeze!

Ohhhh beepbeep could you send one down here please? Theres just been one on the TV and now I'm craving hehe.

WizzyWoo · 03/07/2009 10:52

Morning All

Firstly, thank you all sooooo much for your supportive posts. I'm so hormonal at the moment that I burst into tears! Still, it's better crying about people's kindness than crying because I ran out of loo roll the other day!!

Thanks very much to Tigger32 and beepbeep for recommendations re pram shops. I'll definitely look at their websites and call before going.

ErikaMaye please don't beat yourself up. I think we've all felt pushed into buying something before and it's only really been since becoming a mum that I've become a bit more bolshy with pushy people. There must be a way to get out of the contract - is Watchdog still on TV?? Nicky Campbell could kick arse for you! Keep your chin up and good luck on Monday x

Tigger32 Have you thought about complaining to PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) about your midwife? They could speak to the midwife on your behalf so you don't need to speak with her again and it would highlight the upset she's causing so hopefully she'll be more caring in future. There should be one in your local area. She sounds like a right cow. I know myself that bleeds are so worrying and the last thing you need is someone with an attitude problem. I hope things settle down for you soon.

Hobnob57 Thanks for your advice re CS. I'm still going between both options but have an appointment in August with consultant so might book an elective CS knowing that I can always back out if I change my mind nearer the time. Enjoy your hols x

Beepbeep Glad consultant isn't pushing you to have induction. Mine was horrendous and I wouldn't recommend it unless matter of life and death to you or baby. Don't know a lot about Strep B to be honest - will have to google it.

Usigurke I completely sympathise re family. Both me and DH are from Isle of Man and although we do like to go back, it's so hard to try and squeeze everyone in when we're there and it never feels like a holiday. DH wants to go back for Grand Prix motorbike races in August and my family are whining that we haven't been over for ages but I'm not sure I can face dashing around everyone's houses when I'm pregnant, hormonal and with a bit of a short fuse!

Helips Are the pigeons within firing range? If so, how about a water pistol? 50 points if you score a direct hit!

I love the names that are coming up. I thought of Dominic this morning, which is the first possibility that DH and I have actually agreed on... we'll see, plenty of time. Bought a baby boy's outfit in mothercare sale yesterday. Had to force myself to, as I'm still worried about what's been going on but it was so cute and I couldn't just leave it there. Feel a bit more positive for doing it and for getting back into Mumsnet rather than hiding when things are going wrong.

Ooooh, there's a breeze outside!! I'm off to sit in the sun for a while before it becomes too hot again. Have a good day all x

Koumak · 03/07/2009 11:34

WizzyWoo good to hear from you. Dominic is the best name! My ds is Dominik you see. Its lovely.
We have decided on Olivia for a girl or Oliver for a boy! (i still dont trust the sonographer saying definitely a girl this time....)

ErikaMaye · 03/07/2009 11:35

Thanks wizzy Finally got through to the CAB phone line, and he's going to call me back in a bit. Will see what they have to say and then maybe go to more extremes if they can't do anything.

Well done you for being so brave, I can imagine how hard it was for you. I have a friend called Dominic, he's a brilliantly talented musician. I'd be considering it myself if it wasn't for him! I love the name

My mum keeps nagging me about buying stuff now, so I'm not too big at the end. But I'm really reluctant to get anything yet... Thing is I've had a MC in the past (I was 15... Bad times...) and my mum had three, plus a still birth, so I'm very paranoid about something going wrong. So far have bought a baby hat and thats it clothes wise. Mum came home yesterday with storage boxes from Ikea and a load of stuff (Breast and maternity pads, baby wipes, baby bath, ear buds, nappies) from Sansburys and for some reason it really irritated me...

tigger32 · 03/07/2009 12:36

Hello,
Just got back from meeting my new midwife at the new unit, she is lovely and the unit is just how I remember!
I even had my appointment in the room where I gave birth to ds1.
All my notes have been now copied over to the new unit, although the midwife had to phone the old one for my blood results, when she got off the phone she said, "well if all the midwifes their are like the one I just spoke to there is no wonder you want to switch" apparently she was very rude!
wizziwoo thanks for the recomomendation but I have decided I just want to put the whole thing behind me and enjoy a stress free second half of my pregnany.
All thats left now is to call the old unit to cancel my 25 week appointment (not looking forward to that)
Oh and the new unit also said I don't need to see a consultant as my depression is already being dealt with , so fingers crossed I can deliver at the midwife unit
erika glad you are starting to sort things re the photo company, don't be too hard on your mum, I guess she knows how expensive babies can be and just wants to help you be prepared.

I'm loving all the names, we are thinking William for a boy and Olivia for a girl.

Off to hoover now before my friend arrives

ErikaMaye · 03/07/2009 12:56

I'm so glad your appointment went well tigger Its also quite reassuring to hear that your new midwife felt the same way!! So happy for you that things are looking up.

Thanks - just called the CAB who didn't know what to do, so called Consumer Direct, and they've told me to write a letter declaring that because it was a pressure sell I don't consider it legally binding. So that's hopefully a good sign. They also want to report them to Trading Standards... Feel a bit like I'm causing trouble now... Oh well!!

Ninjacat · 03/07/2009 14:54

Erika Well done for being Proactive on this. I hope it's making you realise how strong you can be.
Glad Consumer Direct were on your side and hopefully Trading Standards can make sure they don't do to any one else what they did to you.

beepbeep · 03/07/2009 16:33

Good luck with that Erica, i'm sure it'll get sorted (you're def not causing trouble - they're the ones who have done that!). i'll do my best with the tart!! now got to pop to sainsburys for a couple of chocolate donuts and liquorice lace (DS having monkey birthday cake - donuts = ears and lace = mouth!)

katster37 · 03/07/2009 18:46

Hi everyone!

Erika great news - sounds like you are on the road to getting it sorted out, fingers crossed.

Olivia is a lovely name. Koumak I am interested in your thread, but the other way round - and also, as they told us at 13w, whether it is as accurate! Can;t decide whether to ask at anomaly scan - not sure what we would think if they told us it was a girl!

Am soooo hot. Went to see Blur in Hyde part last night - it was amazing, best concert I have ever been to, although we were far back. Am worried a bit of dancing and jiggling will have harmed the baby though... It won't have, will it?

Anyone watching the tennis? V exciting. Happy Friday to everyone. BBL hope your DH has a quieter weekend this weekend.

ErikaMaye · 03/07/2009 19:12

Thanks again, you lovely bunch Going to write the letter tonight with my Dad's help - he's pretty good with the wording of these kind of things. If they say no... shrugs I've decided I'll just let them take me to court. It'll look worse for them than it will for me.

Beepbeep - You are pretty much the coolest mother in the world right now... I love the sound of that cake!!! My mother made me a Thomas the Tank Engine one for my 6th and it was amazing... Totally cool idea. AND - you can eat the spare liquorice afterwards!

Katster - I'm sure it won't have I've recently found out that a few weeks into the pregnancy I slid down a banister and landed in a crumpled heap on the floor. I was incredably drunk. And my little one seems okay so far And I was dancing like a maniac - all the more entertaining because of the walking stick - this weekend at the festival and the baby hasn't stay still for a minute!!! I'm jealous by the way! Glad you enjoyed the show.

Slight rant - I only see my DP at weekends. And this weekend he's arranged for us to be doing lunch with different friends both days It may sound silly, but I want some time with him. Last weekend we were with his folks, the weekend before that we saw people, the weekend before that I only saw him one day... Its been a long time since we've just had a weekend to us. I'm not meeting him until lunch time tomororw because he's helping out a mate fix his PC tonight, and I just feel kinda ... Oh well. Rant over. I'm sure I'll have a lovely time. They're all really great

beepbeep · 03/07/2009 20:16

has anyone looked at this thread?
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/783862-Swine-flu-and-pregnant-what-would-you-do

just thought it was interesting, my DH asked consultant about risks as there seems to be quite a lot of it in our area and he didn't even know the pregnant women were a higher risk group [hmmm] - always reassuring!

my doctor called this afternoon, apparently i def did test positive for strep b last pregnancy (my notes had not been passed on to midwife or hospital s i was hoping i was wrong & could go back to the birthing centre). Bit gutted as was getting my hopes up and now it looks like i'll spend at least some of my labour hooked up to introvenus (sp?) antibiotics. Well at least i know the hospital as it's where i had DD (horton) and they were great. just bit disapointed but i obviously will do whatever's best for baby.

Ninjacat · 03/07/2009 20:45

beepbeep I have also tested + for strep B so will be with you on the IV I'm afraid.

I have a large numb patch on my right leg. It satrted out as a kind of icy shooting sensation thenturned to pins and needles and is now numb with occasional pins and needles. Any one else?

BeckyBendyLegs · 03/07/2009 21:46

Hello all!

Anyone done any face painting before? I'm face painting at DS1's school fayre and I'm really nervous as I've only ever done DS1's face before!

DH is working on Sunday but not tomorrow so that's good.

It is much cooler here today - JOY!!!! I did feel peculiar yesterday.

ErikaMaye don't feel that you are causing trouble - you are helping to stop that cow ripping other people off so you are doing a good thing! Be proud!

BeckyBendyLegs · 03/07/2009 21:58

I'm petrified about getting swine flu. I've never had flu before - DH had it once and he was lying in bed mumbling Dr Who lines from the 1970s and he couldn't get out of bed. I am the worst person when I am ill.

ErikaMaye · 03/07/2009 22:29

Thanks Becky I'm right in the boat of panic with you - though am more concerned about labour. Because of my ME I have a very low pain thershold, and because of my mental things, anyone coming near me with a needle tends to make me gc crazy! Though from everything I've heard, swine flu isn't actually that much worse than normal flu, and isn't too risky to pregnant ladies. Try to take some comfort in that.

As for face painting, I got roped in with helping out a few years ago at my old school. Kids are generally just happy having it done Butterflies, tigers and dalmations are easiest. Good luck! And I'm glad you get to spend the day with your DH

Ninja - I have had that at times, but not during the pregnancy. I'm not sure what it is - I've always put it down to my ME. Maybe speak to your doctor?

beepbeep · 04/07/2009 06:43

Ninja - sorry to hear bout strep, but selfishly it quite nice not to be only one!!

Tamlin · 04/07/2009 09:48

Hum. The radio keeps saying that heavily pregnant women are in one of the higher risk groups for swine flu, which cheers me up no end.

My inlaws are supposed to be coming today, but they slept in due to jetlag and missed their train from London! DS is all dressed up with nowhere to go, and they won't be arriving until 11.30 now, which isn't too far off his cranky-if-I-don't-nap time. I've just eaten a chocolate eclair to cheer myself up, and am sitting about contemplating the hugeness of my bump.

beepbeep · 04/07/2009 11:28

Tamlin - from what's i've read, it's not the actual flu tha's dangerous but the high temp that comes with it, but no one seems to say what the dangers actually are! at least there's medication and they say there is a low threshold for hospitalising pregnant women with it - that'd be fun!?!

raggie · 04/07/2009 11:37

Hello everyone. Whew, I've been away for ages! Been busy at work, plus enjoying this lovely weather including Blur @ Hyde Park on Thursday - AMAZING. I didn't even feel tired I was so energised. Must be a throwback to teenage hormones/adrenalin

Skimming through, lovely to hear all your scan news! Mine is on 18th, can't wait. Keep having dreams I've found out. Consensus is it's a boy, based on totally unscientific evidence but now that's sticking in my head too, so will be quite surprised if is a girl, weird.

Oh and swine flu has hit at my school. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and obsessively washing hands/spraying anti-bac every few mins...
