PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/06/2009 18:44

i am pleased, would have been pleased with a girl too, but a boy is great too .

katster37 · 25/06/2009 19:17

Congrats, Pavlov!! Another little boy! Can I ask, how long were they scanning you? Is it quite detailed? I am so nervous!

Am really touched - got another present at work, some really lovely baby things including a Bambino Merino Sleeping Bag - am hoping it is not a sign that parents think I am about to give birth I am not that big, am I???!

Erika also glad your brother is being supportive. That's really sweet that he wants to come to the scan. He'll be a lovely uncle, just wait!

Tamlin any luck arranging the visit? Grrrr so annoying when you are trying to get through. I feel like that when trying to make a GP appt - it is almost impossible some days.

Right - off for a walk in the nice evening sun, yay!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/06/2009 22:38

Oh god I don't know...half hour? It was detailed the sonographer (who was transgender btw, not that it made a difference but it did make me go for a moment, you know unfounded prejudices and all, I was not sure at first if it was a man becoming a woman or a woman with a hormone imbalance - but the adams apple gave it away!) she was lovely, she made sure the screen was facing us, and asked before we started if we wanted to know the sex, I capitulated and said yes ok we do then. She did a general look at profile, arms, legs, body, face, frontal face view, then did a detailed heart check, baby was being a pain with hands in the way so she went back to it, but found all was well, all chambers there, she explained everything as she looked, she checked head, heart, lungs (?) bladder, kidney and liver, abdomen, leg length, brain, oh I can't remember. Anyway it was very detailed. We don;t remember it being like that with DD, we recall seeing thr chambers of the heart, and the brain, but we are sure the sonographer was less talkative last time and just told us the 'important' bits such as 'everything is fine'. Size in all areas indicate he is slap back in the middle of the charts, and correct for dates.

Dh said,' oh we would like a picture please, but I need to go and get change, oh such a faff isn't it would you like a donut?' (she had spotted them earlier and said they looked tasty) 'oh only if you have a spare one' 'sure, let me get a bit of towel to wrap it in' while she printed off 4 scan pictures 'oh don't worry about running around getting change, you can have these ones' and then explained them in detail too

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/06/2009 22:40

I think it is so dependent on the sonographer you get. The checks they do are detailed, but as to how much they tell you, depends on the person. I would ask as much as you can as you go along 'what is that, what does that mean, is that the head? oh no its the bottom, right!' that kind of thing.

ursigurke · 25/06/2009 23:49

Pavlov, congratulations on your little boy!
Just came home, it was a long day, but so proud of myself that I could meet some friends and stay for suuuch a long time.

Tamlin · 26/06/2009 08:03

Pavlov, congratulations! It's funny, I heard so many stories with my hg about how it was 'girls that made you sick' but mine was a boy, too. (Little horrors!) And bless your DD, she sounds really excited.

My DH had a look last night, and thinks that the Salisbury Maternity Unit website is probably a dead page. I don't know why the phone number is going through to a hospital answerphone then, and I feel a bit foolish. He just rang up the hospital switchboard and got through to someone who gave him a different number, so I'll be calling that one today...

Koumak · 26/06/2009 09:00

We are having a girl! Why does my dh always have to be right? She seems very well and ?very average? for size and dates. Had two lovely female sonographers and they rechecked everything (its teaching hospital) so it was quite long scan at least an hour. Ds almost behaved himself but food helped but he did need to go to the toilet in the end so dh missed the important ? so what do you think this is it then while looking at the bottom! It was nice to tease him for the whole five minutes my secret lasted!

Trikken · 26/06/2009 09:09

Congratulations Pavlov and Koumak! another boy and girl. glad everything is going well in the scans.

skorpion · 26/06/2009 10:09

Congrats on the scans! Are we about even with pink and blue? Seems like it.

Laugs - Was it you on the iron pills as well? How are you getting on with them? I haven't noticed any side effects yet, still bloody tired all day until ten at night when I'm suddenly wide awake and full of energy!

My maternity bundle from e-bay has arrived! They're great, lots of clothes, some of them I need to grow into, but some of them fit already. Perfect timing as I have very few items I can wear to work from my pre-preg days...

ErikaMaye · 26/06/2009 10:10

Congratulations Pavlov and Koumak

Thankyou Tamlin and skorpion for your kind words

Slight panic going on - am head up to spend the weekend with DP parents. Am dreading it. Was so freaked last night I ended up having three glasses of wine at the party now I feel so guilty, although the baby is quite content!! I think I also have my first ever hang over. Ouch.

AND - For goodness sakes, I'm sick of hearing about Micheal Jackson already. I'm sorry for his family, but its been on BBC News 24 since the minute it was confirmed now - 10 hours of MJ??? Gah!!!!

ErikaMaye · 26/06/2009 10:10

Ohhhh - and just remembered. H&M sale on Maternity wear. I spent money again. Oops.!

skorpion · 26/06/2009 10:33

Sorry, just checked - sleepless and iron pills

OP posts:
skorpion · 26/06/2009 10:39

Hey, erika, it's not like there's anything else important happening in the world

Honestly, they do milk it, don't they? News used to be news, now it's people's 'reactions' and 'feelings'. Oh, and the ever-present 'outrage'. Why do the media think they know best what the public should feel? One big story to another. But don't worry, any time now something else will happen to direct our attention from MJ and he will be forgotten.

Nobody even mentioned that Farah Fawcett has died, too.

OK, soap box packed away, I'm going back to work. I just get so outraged sometimes...

eeyore2 · 26/06/2009 10:48

Hi everyone. congratulations on all the great scans. Erika, it is lovely to see how you seem to be so much happier now.
I think I have started to feel the baby kick! To all those who are experts, it feels a bit like a bubble bursting or a little twitch/flutter. And it is in various places around my tummy, usually staying in the same place for a couple of twitches and then moving somewhere else. Does that sound familiar to you? I am really excited about it!

EasyEggs · 26/06/2009 11:13

Pavlov congrats on the baby BOY!!

Koumak congrats on the baby GIRL!!

Fantastic news

Well DD and DS both had to have their jabs today. Poor dd sobbed her little heart out. I hate having to take them for injections, feel so mean And have it all to look forward to with this one, oh yay!

Just thought I'd copy the list to here so we don't have to keep searching for it, hope that's ok?

Koumak · 26/06/2009 11:40

I have just loaded some pictures if you are interested.

EasyEggs · 26/06/2009 11:51

Awwwwwwwwwww koumak they are such clear pics, she has such a sweet little face already

I love scan pictures

Tamlin · 26/06/2009 12:31

Well, a million phone calls later I have a date for the maternity tour...

...on 5th September. Apparently they're very popular. Not sure why a) I'm getting pressure to choose a hospital NOOOOOOW when b) I'm also getting told that I'm not supposed to see the hospital too early.

Is anybody else being driven absolutely potty by NHS bureaucracy, or is it just me stuck sitting on the end of a endlessly ringing phone while trying to arrange such frivolous extras as a booking-in appointment or an anomaly scan?! GAAAAAAAAAAH.

sleeplessinthecity · 26/06/2009 13:25

Congratulations!!! pavlov and Koumak* Boy and Girl!!! What great news and so pleased all is well with the babies...Going to have a look at pics after doing this. Doughnuts are a great idea but I'm sure if I took some to the clinic here they'd chuck me out!

Tamlin glad you got an appointment AT LAST!!!

Skorpion Pills doing nothing amazing yet apart from making me more hungry if that's at all possible!

Erika glad you're sounding much happier too, DP sounds like he is really getting excited..Enjoy it..

Sorry to be sad but my hormones got the better of me this morning and cried when I heard about MJ.. I think the old songs brought memories of my childhood..Radio 4 was just right and not OTT when it came to reports. DH thinks I'm sad!

hobnob57 · 26/06/2009 14:19

Haven't been on in a few days due to school events - all finished now HOORAH!!!! I stayed out 'till 11pm last night - felt so naughty . BBL I feel that this week has been my payback for DH's late finishes and golf matches since I've been back 10:30 Monday, normal time Tuesday, 7pm Wednesday and 11pm last night. However, he somehow managed to persuade Granny to stay on and help him with DD last night and fed her the steak that she had bought me . I could really have done with it too- I survived on canapes and garlic bread last night! I feel so ... socialised... it's ace.

Laugs I'm from Co. Down, down towards Ballynahinch direction from Lisburn. I just love going home - there's something so safe and comforting about it. And you just can't beat Donegal for a beach holiday!
LOL re. Taytos. A real Norn Iron treat there. Can you actually get them over here now???!! koumak I'd definitely recommend a holiday over there, although the cost of the ferries is off-putting (but you really need a car there). So nice and friendly . Your scan pics are amazing - wish mine were so clear (back to too many hobnobs again, I think!)

Erika good to see you in a better place these days

No other news from me. Keep forgetting to empty the redundant urine sample I took to my scan from my bag - I keep finding it at inappropriate times. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

hobnob57 · 26/06/2009 14:21

Tamlin meant to say that I'm so glad the NHS up here seem to be a bit better organised. It is SO frustrating when you feel you have to do it yourself but keep hitting brick walls. Any point in turning up to the hospital and demanding to get everything sorted, or is that you all organised now?

helips · 26/06/2009 14:24

Congrats pavlov and koumak on your blue and pink scans!

sleepless I know what you mean about the mj songs reminding you of childhood. I haven't seen much of the news, just listened to the radio and have quite enjoyed listening to the music, you forget just how many good records he made. Very sad.

ursigurke · 26/06/2009 16:32

Koumak, congratulations on your little girl.
pavlov, I've just realised that you had been really worried something might be wrong because you had felt so bad for such a long time. You must be really relieved that you had such a positive scan, so congratulations again.
