Ninjacat · 01/07/2009 21:32

as in dp has no middle name. He does have a name - obviously

pedalmonster · 01/07/2009 21:34

Hi All - can't possibly keep up with everyones news, but congratulations to all with the lovely scan news! Wizzy oh my goodness poor you - but luckily baby is still there and you will have a lovely baby boy! Weleda do a very good range of lotions etc for eczema and other skin conditions so keep them in mind - poor little bear!

I am officially on garden leave so not usuing the computer much now - rather wallowing in DS's paddling pool. I have my next scan in 2 weeks - THINK its a girl... but then again... might be a boy...!!haha.

katster37 · 01/07/2009 21:45

Lucky you pedal, I want to go on garden leave!! Although I can hardly complain since in 2 weeks and 2 days it will be the summer holidays - yaaaaaaay!!!

Ninja I love the lots-of-names thing. And glad DH has atleast one name

ErikaMaye · 01/07/2009 22:20

Thanks again guys Will let you know how it goes.

I think I'll join in the name game - That cheers me up!

I reckon we're pretty much decided on the following, though of course that might all change when the little thing turns up!

For a girl, Evelyn Pamela May.

For a boy, Bryn Jonathan George.

We're double barralling the surname. So either way its going to be a bit of a mouthful! Both of the first names are just pretty much because we like them. Pamela was my closest friends name - she died in October. May was both my Grandmothers middle names, strangely enough - Thats why I'm Erika-Maye. Jonathan is DP's name, but my Dad is John as well, and George is my Grandads name. So theres reasons for it all! DP hates his middle name so I get free reign over them as he claims they're "not important"

OH MY GOODNESS - I read in a day-by-day pregnancy guide in the library earlier (Yes, I am THAT cool!) that there are only 137 days left of my pregnancy. I'm 20 weeks and 3 days, so add or subtract as nessicary if you want to scare the shiz out of yourselves!!!

ursigurke · 01/07/2009 22:47

My husband has just talked to a friend who's wife is due in 10 days. He explained to my husband a few things, my favourite: As the baby is already really big, it pushes the bladder and therefore she has to go to the loo every 3-4... HOURS!!!! I am already at a 3-4 times an hour! At least in the evening.
Actually I usually have to go twice: I wee a normal amount (sorry if tmi) and not even 5 min later I have to go again with normal amount. Then I'm fine for a couple of hours (at least during the day) I'm probably having sort of a second or pre- bladder which keeps the wee if the (normal) bladder is full... I guess I should write an article for a medical journal

beepbeep · 02/07/2009 07:20

Morning all: had a bit of a lay in this morning. DS woke at 5 but had a bottle and thankfully decided to go back to sleep. DD going through a lazy stage and is still in bed - def not complaining!!

Got my scan and first consultant appt (never been under consultant before so not sure what to expect). will be dicussing my strp b and their belief that i should be induced in order to get the antibiotics in me during labour (I tend to labour quite fast) and my argument that i don't want to be induced (believe it's for their convenience and is unnatural unless real medical need) and that fact that i don't want the antibiotics, don't feel it;s neccessary unless i have a further risk factor in labour (ie waters go early or high temp), don't think it's fair to be pumping baby full of them when there is such minimal risk of them getting the strp b, am happy to stay in hosital for baby to be monitored & if shows any signs then obviously happy for antibiotics. we foundout that i had strep b when i had DS (& prob DD) but he's fine and if this labour goes like last 2 - very quick with waters going right at end, there really is very little risk to the baby. I think i'm being reasonable, it's not like i'm refusing treament, just saying i don't partic want it unless there are actually signs of infection either in myself during birth or in baby afterwards. we'll see what he says!!

good luck to everyone else with scans today

better go, got to give DS his breakfast.

helips · 02/07/2009 07:30

uuurrrghhh, i feel rubbish this morning. Well dh got home at 12.30pm, not too bad but ds had me up twice so I didn't get to sleep till dh got home and then he proceded to snore most of the night. Then, ds woke up at 5.20am aaaarrrgghh! I think he is being woken up by some wood pidgeons that are nesting in a tree outside his window. Dh gets up at 5am for work and says they make a terrible racket. I'm an animal lover but seriously, if i had a gun it would be pidgeon pie for tea!!

katster lol at your dh being on a tight leash! It's so annoying, they are grown men but get a few drinks inside them and they turn into little boys. If I rolled in at 4am after saying I'd be home at 11pm dh would be going mental!

Loving all the names, I think we are still going for Charles Reuben for a boy, charlie for short (Reuben after my Grandad) and Matilda Florence for a girl, Tilly for short and Florence after Dh's nan. However, like you say Erika that could all change!

Sorry about spelling mistakes but too tired to correct

helips · 02/07/2009 07:33

Ooh forgot to say ursigurke I agree about the weeing, I have to go at least every 2 hours at the mo, so annoying!

Also, good luck today beep beep and to anyone else having there scan...

beepbeep · 02/07/2009 07:34

Helips - we also have Mathilda Florence for a girl (not sure on boys get and the girl one may change!). We just like Mathilda and Florence was my great aunt's name who died last year. I like the spelling with the 'h' in cause i quite like the shortened version of 'Hilda' tho my brother says she would have to be born 80years old! I like Charles, but we already have a Charlie in the family.

Tamlin · 02/07/2009 07:40

We were going to call a girl Olwen Mary, Polly for short, or Matilda. I'm starting to wonder about the Matilda thing though, it seems to be getting increasingly popular - are other folks interested in the first English civil war, or is it the Heath Ledger effect?!

Oh well, moot point now! Is anybody else absolutely dying in this heat? I just want to sit in my toddler's paddling pool all day - I feel awful for those of you who are having to commute while pregnant in this heat. Sent DH off to get on a train and then Tube this morning, he looked terribly depressed about it.

ursigurke · 02/07/2009 07:42

morning! Well, I woke up at 4, finally got up at 5 and did some work at the computer. Now, I would be ready to go back to bed (actually I was there for the last 30min) but I have to go to work.
I guess my sleepless night wasn't really pregnancy related, more the heat and annoying boss and in-laws. In two weeks, we will go to Vienna for 4 and a half day and I will be really busy to see all my friends and family (my parents are actually travelling there as well, about 6hours by car). Some of them I haven't seen since a year, one (baby) never. I expected my in-laws to come and see us as well as they live about 100km away. But they expect us to come and see them at their place, which would mean we'll loose at least half a day, probably more. It would take us 90 min by train each direction and the journeys to and from the train station, and they probably expect us to be there for lunch and afternoon coffee (well, as far as I know MIL, she expects us to stay over night... in the living room where I always hit my head at a very stupid lustre and get an allergy) I suppose she wants me to be seen by several relatives as well, I feel like a monkey in a zoo. (I'll remember for my next life not to get married to a single child, that's just too much pressure). I find it really ridiculous that they blame us for not having been there since christmas (we went to my parents region for the wedding and for easter though as I wanted to see my nephew and my niece who went there to), they don't realise that it is mainly due to the pregnancy that I didn't do my regular Vienna trips. And they are just to lazy to go there (for them it would be 1hour by car) but expect me to loose precious time and do the travel.
Sorry for the rant.
beepbeep, good luck with the consultant. I think you sound very reasonable and I agree with you, if you can avoid antibiotics and especially being induced, you should. I have just read an article that 1 in 5 births in England, in Scotland even 1 in 3, is induced. Surely that is mainly for convenience for hospital and doctors. Nature can't be THAT wrong.
I was an induced birth and according to my mum it has been the most terrible of all 4. Always nice to hear that (it's usually my dad telling the story, to be fair)

ursigurke · 02/07/2009 07:45

Tamlin, it's hot and I don't like taking the tube at the moment (but I almost always get a seat now) but I still enjoy it. I need heat for a couple of days every year and didn't get any for the last two years. But i only work until 1pm, then I go home, put my feet first in a cold foot spa and then up the wall for a couple of minutes and then I feel fine again.

ursigurke · 02/07/2009 07:46

And I think, Matilda is really cute. But if it gets too popular, I understand that you want to avoid it

turtle23 · 02/07/2009 07:48

beepbeep-Please remember that it is your right to decline any treatment you dont want.

Ninjacat · 02/07/2009 09:13

Have started "The Inheritance of Loss". Any one already read it?

I really have to go to work but I'm soooo tired.

I think the baby has started kicking!!! I was starting to get quite worried so quite relieved now.

Did I say that baby is measuring over a week over my dates (which I'm certain of)?
As ds was 9.12 I think we are heading for another big baby. owch

Tamlin · 02/07/2009 09:30

Have seen induction described as 'trying to ram a square peg through a round hole'. Ow, ow, ow... I was still willing to induce DS if I went the full two weeks over, though. Fortunately, he showed up at ten days late. Have informed Secundus here that he has an easy shot at Favourite Child if he shows up on time, and easily!

I thought that a quarter of all women had Strep B..? Surely they don't induce everyone who has it (they don't even bother TESTING everyone, unlike the US!)

ErikaMaye · 02/07/2009 09:46

Morning ladies!

Just thought I'd pop by and say hello Am going off to the CAB in a bit, kinda nervous, don't know what to expect - never been there before. Not looking forward to the journey, although its not too bad. At the same time, the baby seems to like buses - and trains! - and I get the crap kicked out of me!!! Not that I'm complaining, although I was yesterday, when the little thing somehow managed to position itself so it was pushing its spine out against my tummy. I got some very odd looks, as I sat there going, "Ow! Don't do that, its not very nice!" and trying to prod it into pursuading to move.

Hope the scans go well today.

sleeplessinthecity · 02/07/2009 11:21

Hi all!!!

Sorry some of you are tired, I know the feeling..getting kicked left and right and on my bladder all the time and DD is quite literally turned into Lucifer. I cried and cried as really couldn't deal with the tantrums (usually because she wants all my make up or at the table not eating)

Sorry ursigurke what a mare..families can be such hard work cant they.. So pleased I've run away and am in Switzerland... Hope the trip goes well.

Love all the names...can't wait to start negotiating ours soon..have no ideas at the mo..

katster poor you..you must have been so worried. I hope he makes up for being so irresponsible. MASSIVE present needed to compensate...

Dh has cancelled his wedding trip to Ibiza..he suddenly remembered how big I get! and at 35 weeks I will be a whale! men..why don't they get it the first time.... He has a stag at the big chill so he can get drunk with his mates then! MEN!

At the mo am hiding at home..its too hot to go out..here we go to try and have lunch..wish me luck!

Broodzilla · 02/07/2009 13:07

Hi everyone!

Gosh, I go away for a couple of weeks and you lot chatter away so much it's impossible to catch up unless I set aside a day or two...

Congrats on all the scans and the sexing (it's called that for kittens, not sure if it applies for babies...) and the NAMES!

Not much to report over here. Been sick a couple of times (once was embarrassingly enough at a family reunion where everyone else was drinking and I was the sober one who ended up on all fours vomiting...) but my belly has got absolutely ginormous over the last couple of weeks. I promised someone on here to report on Easyjet and being pregnant - well, on the way out the bump was still small enough to hide, and no-one noticed. On the way back it was massive, but again, nothing... on the other hand, the in flight crew were way too busy flirting with each other (you'd have thought there was a massive party going on...) to take any notice of us passengers.

My auntie is a midwife and commented on the strange shape of my bump - the baby seems to be lying sideways. Hopefully he'll turn in time!

We've finally settled on a name too. I'm so glad, as it's really helped us bond. DH even surprised me by picking out some clothes for the bean while we were away! He's started talking to the belly now as well. I suppose we'll have to see what he looks like when he arrives, but we're planning on Lukas.

Oh, one more thing. While away, we spent a lot of time walking around. As it was boiling hot as well, my ankles and feet swelled up and I ended up hobbling around. I then discovered that my arches have collapsed and got some arch-supports which really, really helped with the discomfort. On the flight back I read that it's a good idea to wear them while pregnant anyway, as the extra weight (and where it is) makes it likely that the arches will collapse unless supported. So, just thought I'd let you all know so you can do something about it before hand!

Koumak · 02/07/2009 14:27

Hi girls just about to catch up on your news. Baby is kicking like mad I am loving it.

Sooooooo hot here I hate my job. The office is just too hot!

If you have found out or are interested about finding out the sex of the baby I started a new thread last night, am starting to be really confused now!

beepbeep · 02/07/2009 14:40

I'm back! consultant was very vague -didn't even know about strep B, thought i was there cause of DS's size and booke dme in for a glucose test in 8 weeks! turns out that for some reason tho i have been told i have it, this information doesn't seem to have been passed on, so now have to chase this up with my midwife, obviously i don't want treatmet for something if i haven't got it?!

He said that he would advise on antibiotics rather than waiting to observe baby as once baby is showing signs then the treatment isn't always as successful - fair play i suppose. he was ok about me not having induction and said that even one lot of antibiotics should be enough?!

Tamlin - reason for induction was cause my labours are usually quite short and they like to give 2 lots of anti-biotics 4 hours apart (my labours haven't lasted that long), so i would be in hospital to get the 2 shots.

Now on to tracking down my midwife!

beepbeep · 02/07/2009 14:41

all well with the baby at the scan by the way (which is the most important thing) didn't find out sex!

ErikaMaye · 02/07/2009 17:09

Glad the scan went well beepbeep.

So I went to the CAB today, trapsed all the way to Hove - about an hours bus ride, with a change, and the walking - which is hard for me to do in my mental state, only to be told when I got there that they didn't ahve any appointments left today. How annoyed was I??? Plan is now for me to go on Monday - my DP actually lives not too far away from the center, so will stay at his the night before. Going to call up and cancel the direct debit tomorrow, however. Decided just to do it, as thats what everyone is advising me. If I have to set it back up, I can. Its rather scary, mainly because I know they're going to get angry and pissy about it, and tings get to me so easily. But after speaking to my DP today, he reckons I should get my physc. involved; one of the reasons I caved in the end was because I was feeling shut in the room, not allowed to leave, and I started to edge towards having a panic attack.

My DP was is very good spirits today - dropped in to see him at work so he could review the contract I'd signed and to show himn the photos. He made me laugh a lot, and made me feel better about everything, like he normally does, but did annoy me at one point. I'd text him earlier on saying, "I think we have an Elton John fan on the way!!!" as the baby did NOT stay still for a second during my friends performance of "The Bridge". And he said to me earlier, "I have realised the baby moves occassionally, you know. I don't need to be told every time." I was quite stung by this. I had just been trying to make him laugh! Oh well...

Ohhh did anyone see the finale of Greys Anatomy last night? I bawled my eyes out.

ErikaMaye · 02/07/2009 18:33

OH -

And now there has been case(s) of Foot and Mouth confirmed at mums workplace - Not good not good not good!!!
