Ninjacat · 01/07/2009 13:46

I'm so tired after Glasto. Don't think I can work any more festivals especially as I'm only going to get bigger and the summer hotter.

I had my scan yesterday but as the radiographer said "the little monkey keeps hiding his face" and that was even after being sent away for half an hour. Have to go back next week now. Still more chance to see baby.

Oh and yes it's another Boy

Trikken · 01/07/2009 14:45

Erika I did similar thing, threaten them that you will get in contact with trading standards if they dont let you cancel, dur to unethical sales practice. then contact your bank so they cant charge you.

Trikken · 01/07/2009 14:47

sorry x-posted with ninja as didnt see this page.

Koumak · 01/07/2009 15:52

does anybody know isabella oliver sizing? is it on bigger or smaller size? i am usually 10 but might be 12 now. should i be going for their size 2 or 3? the sale looks to good to be true!

sleeplessinthecity · 01/07/2009 16:05

koumak I bought the Audrey dress size 2..I'm a 10..bet I'll look more like a heffer in a black tent than Jessica Alba..!

ursigurke · 01/07/2009 16:12

Congratulations on the positive scan results!
Wizzywoo, you must have had a terrible time. That's the good side of those scans that you have time now to prepare (if that is possible) and hopefully get to know people with similar experiences. I am sure you will learn to deal with it and I am sure that you will have a happy son who will just be used to it right from the start and will just see it as a normal condition.
koumak, I really hope there won't be more water coming down and your parents house will be safe. And don't worry about your "Petit Bateau secret", we won't tell anybody. I'm a bit jealous of your name choice (as it is on my list but also on my husband's definitely not - list) but also happy that there is at least an other baby with that name. I think ours could really be a Paula (I secretely name her already like that). Before I knew it would be a girl, I liked the name but thought not for my baby, as soon as I knew, I was suddenly convinced it is a Paula but I still want to finish reading my name book to make sure I have seen them all.
tigger, your story sounds really annoying. Just try to forget about them all, your new midwifes will certainly be lovely and the only thing that counts in the end, that all the scans and examinations showed that everything is fine.

Just out of interest: Do your partners enjoy feeling the baby's movement? Mine doesn't seem to be really interested which I find a bit strange as he is always so impressed by seeing his child at the scans. So I thought it would be even better to feel it. But he touches my belly for about 5 seconds, smiles in a strange way (as he seems to think he has to) and goes back to his sport results. I'm not worried, I am just surprised as I expected the opposit reaction.

Koumak · 01/07/2009 16:12

Sleepless i love that dress! I have 2 weddings to go to but i am quite short and I am sure i will not be able to wear really high heels due to feet swelling I am worried i will look rather funny in long dress so was going to get one or two of the shorter ones to try?

Koumak · 01/07/2009 16:18

Don?t worry ursigurke my dh is exactly like that! He finds the whole pregnancy thing really weird. I.e. doesn?t like to touch the belly but asks how we both are and makes sure I don?t overdue things. He wouldn?t miss a scan either and he is great dad once the baby pops out. Actually really good while it?s popping out too! I think it?s just not ?natural? for them that?s all.

ursigurke · 01/07/2009 16:22

Koumak, I think you should choose your pre-pregnancy size as this is how they calculate it. And I think they are rather on the wider side. I was size 8 or 10 (depending on the brand) and I have two I.O. dresses size 1. which leaves definitely enough room to grow.

ursigurke · 01/07/2009 16:26

Koumak, we'll see how mine reacts "while" it's popping out. He might be lying on the floor, as he had to sit down at the first scan But at least he doesn't have any problem to see blood (that would be rather me)

Koumak · 01/07/2009 16:30

Dont you just wish they really "popped out"? Dh not so good about blood but that bit seems to come after the baby so should be alright as the baby will be his focus hey?

Laugs · 01/07/2009 17:07

erika hope you're ok? I went for one of those photo shoots a few years ago. A friend and I 'won' one each. I was reluctant, but as we could each take a friend and another 2 girls fancied it, the 4 of us went together. It was exactly like you described. My 3 friends all ended up buying a really expensive package of photos each after loads of pressure from the salesperson. Luckily for me, I didn't like mine (3 friends all very girlie, I am not - but they dressed us all to look the same, so I just felt ridiculous). I just wanted you to know that you are not stupid, this is exactly how they make their money and they are very forceful. I'm qbsolutely sure they deliberately make young girls win these makeovers (we were 18 at the time too) because they will be less likely to put up a fight in the salesroom.

It's a very unethical business. I'm not sure if it's illegal and if you'll get your money back. I think it's worth a try, but if not, you'll just have to put it down to experience. It's a perfectly natural mistake to make and one you will never make again: don't be hard on yourself. We still have 4/5 months left to save for the babies' arrival and in a couple of weeks you'll get the Health in Pregnancy Grant, which will cover the whole cost anyway.

ninjacat hope you enjoyed Glasto. Don't think I could have done it in this heat actually. DH said it was very busy this year. And congrats on the baby boy!

God, it's hot here. Took dd for a swim this morning, which was lovely, but have been hot ever since. It's making me really tired and grumpy. Don't think I was made for summer!

koumak I'm sorry to hear about the flooding in Czech. Have your family got somewhere they can stay if their house does flood?

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/07/2009 17:16

Wow! What a lot!

ErikaMaye that woman is a swinder. Try to be strong and fight. As Laugs said don't be hard on yourself. This sort of thing happens to anyone. I was once cornered by Christian Scientists who tried to convince me to go on their very expensive personality improving courses. They were so scary I had nightmares after and was really shaken up. They were really persuasive. In the end I gave them a false address and lied and told them I had no money (they wanted to come with me to the bank machine to get money out!).

Ninjacat yeah boy!

Urisgurke don't worry about your DH. I think it is hard for them sometimes to be as enthusiastic about us about the pregnancy.

It is soooo hot today. We've just been to Sainsbury's where it was lovely and cool. Might go there tomorrow and just stay all day, hanging out in the cheese department!

tigger32 · 01/07/2009 17:29

erika Hope you are feeling ok? Please don't beat yourself up about this, you are not stupid, its their job to sell to people like us, I'm pretty sure Trading standards will help you get your money back, and like someone else said you could also contact your bank to cancel the direct debit.
Take care and think of all the happy times to come with your lovely baby

tigger32 · 01/07/2009 17:30

Oh forgot to say congratulations ninja on your boy news

katster37 · 01/07/2009 17:53

Wow what a lot to catch up on!

Erika as Laugs says, that is exactly how they make their money so don't feel at all stupid, it is definitely not your fault. I actually think Watchdog should do something on them. Have you contacted them? The email is [email protected] so you could write to the photo company and CC that address in, explaining your situation, as this could make them guilty of harrassment or something. You poor thing, I really feel for you.

BBL I spent a rather long time in Tesco earlier, not actually doing v much other than 'chilling' by the freezers

Usigurke Paula is a lovely name. As is Olivia, Koumak. Yay - are these our first named babies?!

Had a shot of anti-D today, athough hospital still not got blood results back to see if I have any anti-bodies. Hopefully it will be OK.... Also had a pedicure to compensate, and now am paranoid as read something about fumes in nail places being toxic... Anyone else had a pedicure/manicure while pregnant?

Ninjacat · 01/07/2009 18:13

Kaster the fumes have to go through you first so as long as you don't feel ill from them I'm sure baby is fine.
I know how you feel though I had a massive load of anathsetic at the dentist today and really freaked out that it might hurt baby. Irrational I know.

Laugs Yes Glasto was very hot, I have sun burn and heat rash. I also have a trapped nerve in my leg from standing for 10hrs plus a day. There was no room for a chair behind the counter and we were too busy for breaks! It really was a killer so now having to re think my summer but think health and sanity wise it's for the best.
How are you feeling about the school reunion by the way?

I think we have an Alfred Zukki Fox (Alfie) on our hands but will have to wait and see him to check it fits.

I'm quite excited now about having a little baby boy. I can't wait to give him a cuddle and play with him and make him laugh. It's feeling very real now.

ErikaMaye · 01/07/2009 18:55

Thankyou so much, all of you. I'm feeling a bit better now, done some more editing for my boyfriend, and that's stopped me feeling quite so useless. I've treated my cuts and they're not too bad - thankfully I'm so tired today I don't have much strength!! Feel very angry at myself for having riuned a four month streak, but my partner keeps reminding me that I'd done so well up until today and thats what matters.

I'm going to take note of everything you wonderful ladies have said. Going to the CAB tomorrow, see what they suggest, and then will work out my plan of action. Thanks again.

Trikken · 01/07/2009 20:24

We have also decided a name now. Annabelle Daisy is the name of choice. depending on suitability but really hope it does work as she is already Annabelle to me.

Koumak · 01/07/2009 20:46

how lovely. I wish i was allowed more than one name. there is just so many to chose from! Dh is just not having it. we are both foreigners...

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/07/2009 21:09

Annabelle is a pretty name. DS1 has a friend called Annabelle where we used to live in Oxfordshire.

We haven't started on the names game yet!

helips · 01/07/2009 21:12

Evening all, so much to catch up on and apologies if I miss anyone out.

erika that woman was out of order putting so much pressure on you to buy those photo's. Agree with the others that you should get your mum to complain and mention Watchdog and Trading Standards. Don't be so hard on yourself, you are young and pregnancy can make you feel very vunerable, I feel so on your behalf!

trikken that's a beautiful name you've chosen and congrats ninjacat on your boy and loving the name too!

koumak sorry to hear about the flooding, hope everyone is ok, it must be a real worry for you.

tigger glad your scan went well and showed everything to be fine with the baby. The midwife sounds like a nasty piece of work though. Honestly, people like her should not be working in the care industry, they are meant to make us feel better not give you grief, stupid woman!

ds woke me up really early this morning and I had to get my in-laws over to take him out so that I could catch up with my sleep! Luckily they adore looking after him and were round in a flash to take him off my hands!

dh is out tonight, god knows what time he'll be home. I've asked him not to come in too late as I worry and shouldn't have to in my condition he normally says ooh I'll be home by 11pm and then roles in at 3am, makes me so cross as I can't sleep properly wondering where he is. Anyway, hopefully tonight he will come home at a decent hour otherwise he will be for it!

Well, that was a longer post than I anticipated! Really sorry if I've ignored anyone but there were so many posts to read and I'm tired and forgetful! Night everyone and good luck to whoever is having a scan tomorrow (see, told you I was forgetful!!)

helips · 01/07/2009 21:14

rolls not roles!

katster37 · 01/07/2009 21:19

Helips that is exactly what happens in our house too - I just can't sleep 'til DH is back, especially as twice now, he has got so drunk he has got the wrong bus home, and once was not home by 4am having texted me at 11pm to say he was setting off.... He had got the wrong bus, and was wandering round some dodgy housing estate trying to find his way home. Unfortunately, his phone had run out of batteries, so I could not get hold of him - I had been up since 1am ringing hospitals, generally being absolutely hysterical!!! He is on a V tight leash nowadays...

Erika am really glad you are going to the CAB. Good luck and I hope they fight your corner for you.

Wow - some really lovely names. Loving Annabelle and Alfred. Is Fox your last name or is that a middle name? Daisy was on our girls name list, think it works well as a middle name. Ninja also looking forward to having a gorgeous baby boy to cuddle and play with - I can't wait!

Baby is doing vigorous kicks, I love it!

Ninjacat · 01/07/2009 21:31

Kaster Fox is a family name on dps side but no longer a surname so will be a middle name.
Ds has lots of names too. Dp has none and gets fed up of people asking what his middle name is so hes quite happy to play my game. At least it's not all the names from a football squad etc...
