I meant 'better time' sorry!

Hi everyone

BBL yay for your DS, that is fab What is he on the G&T register for, does it say? We have to specify a skill, but can be fairly general, like numeracy or gymnastics or whatever. Where is your wedding? We're at one in Chippenham today and am feeling self-conscious - think I will look silly in my outfit although as we're only going to the evening, hopefully everyone will be drunk by the time we arrive and not notice!

My boobs haven't got too much bigger either - 32B to 32C. They just feel different, that's all, and look a bit strange to me.

Sorry to those of you who are suffering from depression at the minute. Such a horrid thing. I didn't know it was a known pregnancy thing around 24 weeks? Great - so many pregnancy things that you don't find out until you get there. Grrr.

Anyone else really fed up with strokes of bump / comments on shape/size / stupid Qs? I am. And I know I will be bombarded by it at the wedding. I am talking 'Ooo aren't you big?' "Do you know what you're having?' (We're telling everyone we don't know) blah blah blah blah. I got told I was 'definitely having a girl cos I was so pear-shaped' yesterday. Thanks. I have only put on 6 pounds and I'm fairly sure it's all bump - everyone else has commented on how neat-looking it is, so I nearly burst into tears! WHat a lovely thing to say

Anyway, have lovely weekends everyone. Probably won't be on until tomorrow night as back late - we are going for a day out in Bath tomorrow, looking forward to that although it is meant to rain all day I think.

BeckyBendyLegs · 18/07/2009 08:51

Ninjacat I hope you are ok - swine flu does seem to be on the up. A couple of my facebook friends and their children have it. Take huge care of yourself. It might just be a virus. DS2 was ill yseterday with a temperature and of course I panicked thinking 'swine flu' but he's fine today.

Thanks everyone for the congrats for DS1. Not sure what it is about yet! He hasn't done anything except be himself and enjoy school! I wish the school had spoken to me in person about it but they are so rubbish at communication. I guess I just sign him up then since he was given the letter?

Muddy walks are great. I love them

Off to Cardiff today to a wedding. Praying that DS2 is well enough today. He seems fine now. DH is cooking us all bacon butties. Oh what a lovely husband he is! He got up early and went food shopping because I ran out of time yesterday.

BeckyBendyLegs · 18/07/2009 09:02

Hi Katster our posts crossed. The letter is just very general so I don't know what he's on for. He's just had his school report too which seemed to suggest he's very good at reading and numeracy above his level. I need to talk to the school really ... shame we have seven weeks until we're there again!

I hope your wedding goes well today. I'm sure we'll both get all the same comments Just grin and glow, that's my advice. I haven't tried on my dress since I bought it so I am just hoping it looks ok.

Yum eating my bacon buttie. I will suffer later I am sure. where's the gaviscon?

Ninjacat · 18/07/2009 15:34

Feeling pretty rotten so spoke to dr again and thought I'd share his advice.
Apparently the effects of anti virals are untested on fetus and unless I was severely unwell he wouldn't want to give them to me.
In a funny way that kind of made me feel a bit better because I know how ill I'd have to be to take a risk on baby.
I'm going to try and relax about it all now and trust my body knows how to heal itself.

Hope every one else is well.

raggie · 18/07/2009 16:23

Really sorry to hear having a bad time at Whit Plonkey.

I am there too PinkCaz but like you am moving before EDD to Oxford. Hoping to tell my MW on Monday - have you done so yet? What was the reaction? Have you booked in at your new hospital yet? Easy/difficult? I hope it's not going to be a big issue so any advice/experience you or others! have would be very welcome.

Finally (!) had my anomaly scan this morning. Everything fine apart from slightly dilated kidneys (5mm). Going to find out what that might mean now, have to have a chat to the MW but apparently 'very common', 'not to worry about'. Any experience?

I'll add to the list too - we are having a GIRL!

Total emotional break down today. Perfect.

I'm in absolute agony - had a pain under my bump for the past few days and today its got so painful. Have taken some paracetamol, tempted to knock myself out with a few glasses of wine!!! (DPs celebrating the fact its the weekend... Again.) Its not a water infection as MW did a urine protien test on Friday, so don't really know whats going. Just that it really bloody hurts. Close to tears with the pain.

scarlotti · 18/07/2009 20:52

Ninja sorry you're still feeling rough. A mum to be on another thread I'm on has suspected swine flu - she's been given Relenza as that's deemed safe for pregnancy so if you get really bad that might be worth a thought.

I've been ill all last night and today thought it was just a bad bout of hearburn and sickness but have had a headache all day and feel tired and bit woozy. Will see how I am tomorrow but guess I'd better get checked out if it's still there.

Worried it might be something but at the same time thinking I might just be paranoid!

Great news on your scan raggie

Tamlin · 18/07/2009 22:21

Ninja and Scarlotti, get well soon! It's rotten being ill and pregnant at the same time - I hope you bounce back as quickly as possible.

Laugs, I really liked that Elinor Lipman - it was just astringent enough, if that makes sense. I should probably try some of her other stuff.

I spent today in Bath, hunting for a formal maternity dress to wear to this wedding next month. I thought I'd certainly find something - there's a shop there just devoted to formal maternity wear, for Pete's sake - but there was nothing which didn't bag strangely around my bust, or come in black or ivory (which I am NOT wearing to a summer daytime wedding), or look like a pair of cheap curtains tied around the middle with a bow. DH usually hates clothes-shopping with me, but bless him, the more miserable I got, the nicer he got. I'd come out of a changing room wearing some vast floral thing with puffed sleeves and a bow on my bump, and he'd say 'Darling! I think Princess Diana wore that back in the 80s!' or 'Maria, I do wish you'd stop making dresses out of the curtains.' Don't know what the sales ladies thought, but he cheered me up no end.

It is bloody demoralising having to view yourself in multiple changing room mirrors. I know I'm supposed to be rejoicing in the beautiful curves of the fecund body or whatever, but all I could think is 'How did I grow that much backfat in the last TWO WEEKS?'

scarlotti · 19/07/2009 08:53

Tamlin thanks. Am starting to think it's nothing serious as no worse today so that's good. Guess I should maybe see the mw though as feel tired and bit dizzy at times and have a headache - thinking it might be low iron.
Don't get seen again to 28 weeks so might get a sneaky interim appointment

Am with you on the body fat - mine has increased no end and am not impressed to be honest. Cellulite now showing just when I sit, sigh. My bump may well be neat looking but the padding around the rest of me leaves a lot to be desired.

I have a fancy maternity dress that would suit a wedding - happy to pop it in the post if you wanted a look and/or borrow. I've tried to find a pic to show you but can't. It's a red herring one but obviously last season (dahling). Whilst it's black based it's covered in bright flowers and a few gemstones around the neck. That makes it sound awful! It is nice!

raggie · 19/07/2009 09:27

Good to hear you're no worse scarlotti but poor you all the same. I am still trying to shake off a nasty cold/chesty cough I've had for over a week now!

Get well soon Ninja

Know exactly what you mean about formal maternity wear tamlin - ordered a dress from JoJoMamanBebe and it was HIDeous... but now think instead of refund will just exchange for some cute baby clothes = free money innit?!

Pinkcaz · 19/07/2009 10:41

Hi Raggie Gratz on little girl!! Me too!!

I am there on Wednesday so going to cancel all appointments that follow from that.

I called my old doctor in Derbyshire and said as soon as i'm back go register back with them, they'll get me in with on-site midwife for a check up / nosey at notes from Witt, and then request notes from London dr's they said would be fairly painfree so fingers crossed

Anyone else having very lazy weekend??? I went out for 3 hours last night to the cinema and slept like I ran a marathon lol!

x

ErikaMaye · 19/07/2009 12:42

So sorry I was so wrapped up in everything that was happening last night to say congratulations on the scan, Raggie

Tamlin - I have a lovely turquoise dress that I bought from Evans for my birthday and a wedding we went to last month, kind of Greeco-style. Very stretchy, light material, with adjustable tie straps. If you'd like to borrow it you're more than welcome.

DP had a break down today. He's fighting his illness so hard but its just too much for him right now Poor thing.

I hope everyone feels better soon!!!

mobar · 19/07/2009 14:58

hello joined last week but not been on for a few days as waiting for laptop to be fixed. in meantime borrowing others when they are not on it. Sorry to hear you are not well scarlotti and Ninja. was going to venture to town show today but been told to stay away from crowded places, easier said than done with DD.

Not my scan yet will be on 30th but not sure if going to find out. Fancy a surprise this time i think. How is everyone else. Enjoying the nice weather

Laugs · 19/07/2009 19:35

Just popping in to say bye as I'm off on holiday at the crack of dawn.

Hope you had a great wedding BBL and hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Don't chat too much without me please! x

mobar · 19/07/2009 19:43

Have a lovely time

ErikaMaye · 19/07/2009 19:51

Laugs I'm jealous Have a fantastic time!!!

Welcome mobar When are you due?

FairyBex · 19/07/2009 19:53

Hi all - I've got a quick question for you all. Is there anyone out there that hasn't felt the baby move yet?

I'm 21 weeks and a little bit and I haven't felt a thing. When I mentioned this at my 20 week scan they seemed quite surprised because it was jigging about loads. Am I the only one waiting for this to happen?

I'm not particularly worried, just impatient

scarlotti · 19/07/2009 20:14

Fairy the books all say it can take up to 22 weeks and all sorts of factors can stop you feeling it - if the placenta is blocking easy access to your tummy it will act as a cushion.
Nothing to worry about if you've seen it jumping about on your scan. You'll soon get fed up of being woken up at night by digs and jabs when it happens!

Laugs happy hols!

mobar why avoid crowded places? Is that in case of swine flu? We've been told at work to just carry on as normal as there's no reason why you'd catch something at a crowded place any more than somewhere less crowded.

mobar · 19/07/2009 20:21

Erikamaye hi i am due on 26th November same as laugs and a couple of others.

scarlotti yes it has been all over the news today that it is not worth the risk, said aviod unecessary travel on public transport and crowded places, only cause if you need drugs this is what is harmful to baby not the actual flu. Typical.

beepbeep · 19/07/2009 20:28

Evening all - haven't been on for a week or so and can't believe how behind i am (and soory, haven't got time to catch up with everything)

question for you...; MATB1, my last MW was 16 wks, had scan (apparently that classes as an appt), then as not 1st baby don't have doc check at 25 weeks and am waiting util 28 weeks for MW appt, this'll be first tome i've seen her since 16wks, have no problems with this, just tht work'll have to wait until then to get MATB1 - can't remember what I did last time and whether this is ok or they need it sooner. Have given them notification of baby EDD in writing ages ago.

Also, bit gutted as had it confirmed that is def best to have antibiotics for strep b which is fine and that i will have to stay in afterwards for observation of baby, was hoping to move across to Chipping Norton (local small MW led unit) for this time as more comfortable and homely than hospital. but spoke with them today and they are now not able to accept 'transferees' for aftercare and even if you birth there there have to encourage people to leave in 4-6 hours - is this not totally against what these small community MW led units are about? the aftercare is great and used to be able to stay until they had helped you establish breastfeeding and were comfortable and confident enough to go home. Just abit sad about it really.

beepbeep · 19/07/2009 20:38

Raggie - whereabouts are you moving to in Oxford (we live just outside) - ust being nosey?!

Erikamaye - also having the pains under the bump (right where the bump seems to erupt from pubic bone if that makes sense), sometimes have put it down to wind and think also to do with muscles. But if you're concerned then ask MW.

mobar · 19/07/2009 20:46

i have had a few pains aswell but it is just muscles softening and moving. plus probably overoing it a bit. dont worry i got this with my first aswell, plus quite sure someone is kicking my pubic area when awake, little pains but laugh at them really it is like baby is making sure i am reminded it is there.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 19/07/2009 21:09

Sorry just been lurking as v busy.

I think I might be sick due to eating 3/4 of a tub of carte d'or Mascarpone ice cream .

Sorry for those feeling unwell with possible swine flu. That really sucks.

Congrats raggie on the scan and the baby girl!
