Hello all and welcome to foucault and mobar

Not really got much to report today, I'm not sure on when you have to leave work, I know you can work up until yur due date but not sure if you can work past it, sorry not much help!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, I've decided I'm going to decorate the bathroom!

FoucaultIsTheDaddy · 10/07/2009 17:40

Thanks for the lovely welcome ladies. Much appreciated

My net is a bit temperamental at the moment. Mostly because I'm using someone else's broadband connection whilst waiting for mine to get up and running. A bit bad I know, but I justify it to myself by thinking that they would have put a password on if they were that concerned.

So what are everyone's plans for the weekend? I'm planning an evening slouched in front of the Masterchef finale. I'm a sad fan of food programmes....

WizzyWoo · 10/07/2009 18:01

Afernoon All

Thanks for the crutches tip, EricaMaye. Must admit that although it's sore to do so, I keep walking about without my crutches, just because I find it so annoying to walk with them, especially with DD to sort out... Will persevere though. Don't want to be in wheelchair before end of pregnancy.

Hi Foucault and Mobar good to see some more people joining our band of bumps .

Broodzilla thank you, you're a star! Off to google BRIO prams now after rather joyless internet search for twin buggies today. Not sure if I'm being too picky but I'm kind of expecting a handbag moment, where one will jump out in front of all the others I see and shout "buy me"!

Still feeling a bit sick today but not as much retching as there has been over the last week or vomiting so maybe the hormones are calming down a bit. I've been having a panic today about how much we have to do before baby arrives, particularly now I've been warned to take things very easy. I'm quite an impatient, proactive person and DH is so laid back, if he went any slower he'd stop, so I can see some hormonal outbursts on the horizon over sorting out our spare room...

DD threw some hideous tantrums this morning over breakfast cereal. We've run out of cheerios and shreddies but have plenty of cornflakes, weetabix and porridge in, all of which she usually loves. I had to call cheerios "tractor wheels" and shreddies "baby weetabix" to get her to try them in the first place and all she kept howling was "tactac" and " baby bix" - I've created a monster!! Hopefully supper will be a more sedate affair. Off to get something ready for when she comes home from nursery with DH. Hope you all have a relaxing evening and a fab weekend. Hoping to check out some of the sales for baby bargains so hopefully will come back in a calmer and more organised frame of mind

katster37 · 10/07/2009 19:42

Hi Foucault and Mobar

BelgianBun nice to hear from you. My scan is really late on, too. Think it is a King's thing...Mine's next Wed, I feel sick thinking about it!

Yay for Friday - pheeeew. Just eating chicken fajitas and looking forward to a lie-in.

Erika - clothes sound amazing value, am wondering if you can order online 'cos we don't have an ASDA near us?

ursigurke · 10/07/2009 19:45

Welcome to foucault and mobar. Koumak, I found lots of useful information on direct.gov.uk. I think it was there where I could fill in my dates and got a pdf with all numbers (dates, money,...) for my own case.
I suppose if they can't answer the question about the last possible date no one can. Normally I would think the EDD is the last possible one as you have to tell your employer some weeks before when you want to go on maternity leave and you have to start it with the birth (or the day after, I'm not sure). So, as you can not plan to have the baby later, I suppose officially it would be the EDD. But maybe it is still possible to agree somehow to work until the birth.

So, now I would have two questions: As I have to stand a lot and my legs seem to get tired of it, I would like to get some of those support stockings or tights. Where do you get them from? I know they exist in different "levels". Can you just buy them or do you have to get a prescription? (maybe depending on the level?) I am quite sure that my sister got a prescription (or something similar), but I think she needed already stronger ones.
Second question: In Austria and Germany all pregnant women seem to drink a special pregnancy herbal tea. It seems to be a magical mixture that helps you through the second half (maybe later, don't know exactly) of your pregnancy and is an excellent preparation for birth. (or maybe it is just good marketing , but it really seems to be recommended by midwifes, gynaecologists, mothers,....). I haven't heard anything about it here. Does anybody know something about it? As I'm going to Austria in a couple of days it would be the perfect time to get it (but stupid if they sell it here too and I'm just too stupid to see it).

katster37 · 10/07/2009 20:13

Usigurke I am not sure about the tea. I know towards the very end, people tend to drink Raspberry leaf tea but you shouldn't drink it too early as it can make you have contractions. But it is meant to be good for 'easing labour' apparently?!?! Am sure others will have more knowledge than me on that one though.

I have read that you cannot work past your EDD, Koumak. It's not fair to people who are two weeks late but I suppose they don't want to risk dealing with someone in labour?! I don't know. Sorry, I am not much use tonight!

Soooo tired. Anyone else counting down to 24 weeks when 'officially' baby could be viable?! I don't know why but I am obsessed with it! Although could do with a nice positive, normal scan on Wednesday as well!!

ErikaMaye · 10/07/2009 20:56

katster - Link to George online direct.asda.com/george/baby-clothes/07,default,sc.html. If they won't deliver because you don't have one near you, am happy to order it for you myself and post it to you if you want. Especially considering the prices, they're incredably good quality.

Wizzy - Sorry the crutches are so awkward! I hope they get easier... Having been stuck in a wheelchair for months before, can assure you its best to avoid!!! Poor you

Just cooked a very successful dinner and feeling quite happy with myself! Salmon fillets with new potatoes and parsley sauce - yum! DP really seemed to enjoy it, and I love seeing him enjoying food.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 10/07/2009 21:34

OMG You all talk too much ladies. Has anyone said that before? .

Not been on much as DD has decided she no longer wants to go to bed, her sleep has gone completely and utterly to shit, which means she is tired in the day, so falls asleep, then late night, and so the cycle goes on. Today I took her swimming AM, should probably have done it PM before bedtime to wear her out, as she slept in the car on the way home and now DH is reading her another noddy story as she is 'just not sleepy mama'. . Methinks it is the sign of a growth spurt - she tends to do this - not sleep well, eat loads (which she is) then after a few days, stops eating, wanting milk only, and sleeps lots and grows, any others LOs do this?

Anyway, Welcome to the new people !! We are not scary, honestly, we are lovely, well I would hate to be so presumptious about myself but everyone else is

ErikaMaye · 10/07/2009 21:53

Well you are lovely Pavlov Poor you, I hope your DD settles down to sleep soon!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 10/07/2009 22:01

Thank you erica

DD is now asleep, thankfully! I am bit worried as I am having guitar hero night tomorrow after mucho badgering by friends, and DD loves it and I don't want her up past 8pm , other than that, its just what happens. Sometimes its a pain if we want some us time, but 2nite she was lovely and not too much hassle so ok. It just means little time for DH and I to spend together as I am now ready for bed myself

Ninjacat · 10/07/2009 23:40

Have just watched Torchwood. Feeling very traumatised.

katster37 · 11/07/2009 09:28

Erika thanks for the link and for the offer of posting stuff to me - so sweet BUT is fine - they do deliver to me!! Yay!! So have done a sneaky order! Can't believe how reasonable the stuff is! I hope I have not been silly as have ordered a couple of blue things, based on the sonographer at 13 weeks! Salmon sounds lovely. Much healthier than my chicken fajita fest.
Ninja I had to turn it off, too scary for me!!
Am getting really paranoid about swine flu... Want to go and hibernate somewhere!
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Pav enjoy guitar hero night! We have got theatre this pm then family 60th birthday tonight.

pinkfizzle · 11/07/2009 09:53

Welcome to all the newbies!

Wow this thread moves at lightning speed.

HAPPY BDay for tomorrow Pavlov!!!!

Welldone on those +ve scan results and good luck to those with scans to come.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8P1O2YsH0k&feature=related

Was looking into baby hammocks and thought this was cute.

Koumak All going well - I'm pretty sure that the latest that you can start your mat leave legally is one day after the birth of your baby. I looked into this as wanted to save my holidays to extend my mat pay.

Katser Had my scan at Kings and found the staff fab, i have found all the staff so far really dedicated.
Apparently they do labour ward tours on Mondays at 4pm and Thursdays at 6.30 pm.

I am nearly at 24 weeks but it took ages to finish the scan as the bub was doing acrobatics. I know what I am having but am not telling, sworn to secrecy with DH.

I burp so much and have so much heartburn that I can't really distinguish between my burps, fart and stomach noises and baby movements.

Back to burping.

BeckyBendyLegs · 11/07/2009 16:47

Hello everyone! I feel like I've been away for ages but only 4 days. I've just got back from my little holiday with mum, brother and sister in Brixham and we had the BEST time ever. It was lovely. We had no TV, no internet, no contact except newspapers with the outside world and it was really nice. I want to move to Brixham. I loved it. We were in a little cottage up 90 steps from the harbour with a view of the sea. Ahhhh. I missed my little boys sooooo much though so it is nice to be back.

Hello to all the newbies. I haven't read all the thousands of posts since Tuesday yet... Hope all is well with everyone

PootleTheFlump · 11/07/2009 18:45

Hi All,

haven't been on for weeks for all sorts of reasons, but have just spent a good while trying to catch up (& promptly forgotten a lot again!) Hope everyone is ok? I have had Braxton Hicks for a few weeks now and read that you have them but don't feel them from much earlier on, so it's definitely normal!

Our scan was fine and all looks well with baby. Have had continued on and off bleeding but no real cause found and it seems to be doing no harm. We resisted finding out what flavour it is, but I do spend a lot of time speculating - as if I could tell!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend

Is anyone else suffering from heartburn? Mine has really cronked up to top notch over the last few days and it is horrible. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. I can't eat anything without acid going up my throat now

wook · 11/07/2009 21:03

Yes to the heartburn BeckyBendyLegs. Gaviscon! And yes to the Braxton Hicks- I was quite scared the first time!
Has anyone else...
-put on a stone and a half or more??
-decided they actually really don't like their dp/dh at the moment??
-burst randomly into tears at inappropriate times not from sadness but from pure hormonalness??-(and then got a bollocking for it because it was at work and they have an evil female boss?)
-found out that their favourite baby girl name's namesake may have shagged Hitler?? Hugely offputting.
I should be used to all this- I have done it before, but obviously your brain lets go of all the pregnancy memories so that you do it all over again!
On the bright side...
-Latitude next weekend! Anyone else going?
-Saving a fortune in the sales as too big for all normal clothes and no idea what size I'll be next summer!! Don't dare buy baby clothes in case it's a boy after all and we already have loads of boy stuff.
-Only four months left!

lemontop · 11/07/2009 21:05

Evening all. Went wedding ring shopping this afternoon. Eek can't believe I'm getting married 3 weeks today.

On the topic of Asda they've got some nice sundresses online at the moment for £8.They're not maternity but quite baggy and elasticated at the back. Bargain. Unfortunately I've ordered mine in the wrong size so will have to send them back. I'm having difficulty buying clothes at the moment. My belly is getting bigger and my feet and boobs have grown out of all proportion. Going for Bravissimo to get measured up again on Monday for some new hammocks. The rest of my body, however, seems to be shrinking. I'm not losing any weight but think doing a bit of exercise is making me smaller. It's a nightmare getting anything to fit!

ursigurke · 12/07/2009 09:33

lemontop, how exciting. Do you have everything prepared yet? I'm sure it will be a great day.
Had been invited to dinner yesterday and stayed until 1.30! Very proud. Anyway, they have a 8 month old son. First the woman told me in detail how terrible the first 6 weeks were and how lonely she felt and that it would not be the worst idea to have someone like my mum or even MIL over for a couple of weeks to help me (this would be a nightmare for me. As much as I love my mum but I really don't want her to stay here for weeks, and MIL even worse, with my mum I could at least argue about something). And that I should just think about what to do if I needed a caesarian (why should I already consider the worst case?) And she said also a couple of things how painful the birth was...
And then later the man asked me how I was (he asked it in such a serious way as if he was my consultant) and that we definitely have to find a new flat. Those stairs and the forth floor are just terrible! He gets out of breath every time he comes to our flat (he is a bit overweight by the way)! And then he said, that especially at the beginning everything is difficult and the first three month are just terrible.
I found it interesting how they insisted in telling me how terrible everything would be. I thought people should actually do the opposit and try to build up your confidence or at least not trying to destroy it if I am actually rather confident and positive (at least at the moment)

Trikken · 12/07/2009 11:31

ursigurke It can be hard for the first few weeks but for me they were amazing and i loved them. dont let their comments upset you, it will be a special time for you.

ErikaMaye · 12/07/2009 11:34

Lemontop - Ohhh exciting I do hope there will be muchos muchos MUCHOS gossip afterwards!!! Did you find your rings?

As for clothes... H&M are very good for fitting our boobs bumps and bums and, actually, oddly enough, so are Primark! Be careful with Bravissimo; I've had to buy my bra's there from there (Or Anne Summers!!!) for a few years now, and the problem with wearing them while you're pregnant is the bones are in all the most painful places. Mothercare have a linguire sale on at the moment. Also try thebigbrashop.com and brastop.com - both are quite reasonably prices for bigger boobs, and have a sizeable selection for maternity / boneless bras

Am worshipping my DP right now. Last night was a nightmare but when it got too much we left (I had a physcotic mini-episode for seemingly no reason. Will have to speak to my doctor...) and we walked home in the rain so I could calm down, admittedly with me mumbling and talking under my breath half the way. Then we came in and he took the best of care of me all evening. He drives me bonkers sometimes but I love him to pieces. Feeling very lucky rigtht now.

Still not 100% mentally or physically, but better. And its a really nice day, and that should make it pleasent

FoucaultIsTheDaddy · 12/07/2009 11:54

Morning ladies, I hope we are all having a lovely weekend?

wook I'm jealous. Latitude last year was phenomenal. Stroke a pink sheep for me? Hope you have a fantastic time!
Oh, and yes, there have been plenty of tears. Especially these past few days for some reason. Must be a surge of hormones...

Lemontop Congratulations on getting married!

Ursigurke The way I'm feeling right now I would have either burst into tears or gone on a rant about scaring the living daylights out of pregnant women. Why must people share their negative experiences with nothing to balance it out? I know people only want to try and help, but seriously, a few positive comments wouldn't go amiss!

I'm just wondering, did anyone else read this today? www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/jul/12/pregnancy-pain-natural-birth-yoga
Thoughts?

O ne more thing. I'm having horrible urges to go and get a KFC. Someone stop me!

turtle23 · 12/07/2009 15:14

Just stopping in to say hi and share this

ErikaMaye · 12/07/2009 15:27

Foucault - Not KFC but ... McDonalds. Oh the shame!!! Its the idea of the cooked onions and the cheap cheese and... Ugh I can't look at myself!!!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 12/07/2009 17:23

Hey all, just popping in to say I rocked at guitar hero last night! I am much much better than all my friends though so i had to back off a little for fear of being seen as a show-off! Which I was . Baby woke to some of the tunes which was great! Lots more people showed so I was a bit concerned about my place getting trashed as I had spent all day cleaning so it was tidy today. But everyone was gone by 11:30pm so DH and I did a quick tidy of beer bottles (amazing how people still see birthdays as a piss-up even if the birthday girl is not drinking!) and it was fine.

Day has been good so far, lazy as I wanted. I am back in bed, preparing myself for a walk at Wembury, and some sandcastle building. That and some shit on tele is my plan today. DH found some pasterised camembert so we are having cheese and biscuits for tea. Yum!

usigurke how annoying to hear your friends telling you about how difficult it was in the first few months. It is so so individual you just cannot prepare someone for it. I found the first few months absolute bliss. Yes, there were sleepless nights but I honestly found the hormones of pregnancy and of being a new mum meant I took this in my stride and it did not feel like it would for example right now. I found later when DD was teething worse! I seriously look back at those first few months with a feeling of nostalgia and am looking forward to it all over again (and hoping it will be like it again).

I think it can be harder for the men as they do not have the hormones to help them through it, but even DH used to feel once he was awake after a night of no sleep that it was a distant memory.

heartburn definitely! I have almost used an entire enormous jar of gaviscon!
