Hi all, another scan here today. We didn't want to find out if it was a boy or girl, which is just as well as apparently they couldn't tell due to the position the baby was in.

Baby was moving round lots and getting its arms in the way making it difficult to check the heart but we got there in the end.

Couldn't believe how much it was dancing around when I haven't felt any movement yet. Hopefully soon

Erica- my surname is double-barrelled and we are still going for middle names. Everyone hated what we called DS as well as moaning that he had "too many names" but you know what? Your baby. They'll get over it.

lemontop · 09/07/2009 08:02

Just adding my name to the list. 23 weeks today and awake before 6. Surely a sign of things to come! After not finding out the sex of our baby I must've spent about an hour last night analysing the scan pics for a clue! How ridiculous.

Xmas shopping?! In July!!!! I'll do mine at the last minute as usual.

Lemon - bet that will be online shopping then eh

Well done all those with recent scans! Boys, girls, and surprises are evening out!

Good luck Laugs, and anyone else having a scan today

Laugs · 09/07/2009 09:16

Since I am going for the surprise option, what I want to know is - those of you who know what you're having - is it the same as the Chinese horoscope prediction??? lemontop I'm sure I will be scrutinising my scan pic too.

Congrats on our lovely little dancer fairybex!

katster my mum is exactly the same about anything vaguely worrying. I feel like I have to shield her from the real world sometimes! Like you say, there's not much you can do but just keep calm and be glad it's nearly the end of term. I have heard though that if close contacts get it (this might just be family?) they will give pregnant women the anti-virals before they get any symptoms to get a head start on controlling it.

erika people feel like they can complain about everything before the baby's actually here. Once he's born and named, nobody is going to say it's a bad name, because it will be his name and they will love him. That's why I am answering every well-meaning query with an inscrutable Mona Lisa smile this pregnancy... or something()

Tamlin · 09/07/2009 09:19

Tristan's Welsh, originally - shows up in one of the Welsh triads as 'Drustan', nephew of 'King March'.

I really love Bryn. My grandad's Welsh (as in, native speaker) and he'd be chuffed if I used it, but DH is American, and over there it's a girl's name (like Reese and Morgan and practically every other Welsh boy's name you can think of!) Seems weird to me, I think of a big burly Welsh tenor when I hear the name.

Middle names are jolly useful nowadays. When you think about it, unless you've got an unusual surname or wildly unusual first name, there will be a few other people out there with your exact first and last name and possibly your birthdate - a middle name's an easy way to avoid identity confusion.

roomac · 09/07/2009 09:33

Hi all. Re swine flu, my 7yr old has temp of 38+ and cold/flu like symptoms so has automatically been given tamiflu. Dr wanted me to have it to even though I am fine. I have said no as have decided that if I get what my son has paracetamol would sort it out as is really quite mild and so risk of meds is not outweighed by risk of illness. Hope I'm doing the right thing ...

re Chinese thingy...yes, right for me.

southernbelle77 · 09/07/2009 11:05

Morning all, congratulations on everyone else that has had scans yesterday or today.

We had ours this morning and the consenus is that they think it's probably a girl, although only 75% as baby had 'her' legs crossed and all the prodding and poking wouldn't change that! Lazy baby too with legs crossed and arm resting behind head! Was more than happy to knee me though without uncrossing legs!! So, if it is right then dd will be pleased! Sonographer did say to keep all receipts if we buy anything though incase its not a girl after all

BTW, the Chinese predictor thingy was wrong both this time and with DS who is clearly NOT the girl it said he would be!

Broodzilla · 09/07/2009 14:02

roomac How scary - but I'd probably do the same, as I understand it, it's the high temp you've got to worry about, rather than the virus, and if the temp stays around 38 then it should be controllable with paracetamol.
Don't they test for swine-flu anymore? Do they just hand out meds in case?

The Chinesethingy predicted a boy, and it was right.

Sorry to keep harping on about it, but woke up with a really painful Braxton Hicks this morning. Google tells me that most people start feeling them around 28 weeks. Am I just a freak, does no-one else have them?

Trikken · 09/07/2009 14:09

Ive had braxton hicks already. was washing up at the time and had to sit down. You are definately not a freak!

lemontop · 09/07/2009 15:56

broodzilla AS this is my first pregnancy I'm not sure if it's Braxton Hicks but I've had a couple of occasions where I've been walking up a hill or doing something slightly strenous and I've had a sudden intense pain that goes away fairly quickly. Terrified me at first as I thought it might have meant something was wrong but seemed to pass fairly quickly.

tigger32 · 09/07/2009 16:24

Hello just popping in quickly,

Congratulations on the good scan news, that girl list just keeps getting bigger!

Not sure on the Braxton hicks, this is my 3rd pg, both the other times I didn't get them until about 35 ish weeks. I have heard they can come much sooner though, maybe mention to your midwife/gp next time you see them?

Mammas and Pappas have a huge sale on, if anyone is starting to look for anything yet, including Maternity clothes, I'm eyeing up a pram but not sure! Anyway just thought I'd let you all know.

ursigurke · 09/07/2009 17:01

congratulations on all those scans.
roomac, think you're doing the right thing.
in my case, it's either the chinese prediction or the sonographer who is wrong. We'll see...

Broodzilla · 09/07/2009 18:03

Thank you all! Feel less of a freak now.
Seeing midwife next Thursday so will ask her too and let you know. Off to have a look at Mamas and Papas...
There's a thread on the pregnancy board about things you didn't know until you were pregnant. It's had me howling with laughter. And strangely comforting at the same time...

Laugs · 09/07/2009 18:57

Had my scan this afternoon - all well!
We didn't find out the sex, but it was lovely to see the baby wriggling about in there. DD was much more interested too, as now she knows there is a baby in mummy's tummy.

Congrats to southernbelle and chocotastic too, and sleepless, did you just have your scan today with all those guests there, or just updating the list?

roomac hope your DS is feeling much better soon and you stay feeling fine. At least you know the Tamiflu is there if you do need it.

ErikaMaye · 09/07/2009 19:55

Congrats on scans everyone!

Lomontop My first, too, and I had a HUGE freak out until I was told it was Braxton Hicks, maybe at 17 weeks? I can't quite remember. Was told that I was stressing too much and that was what was causing it. Oops.

Reveling in the fact that I've been limiting my tuna too much - Yey!!! TUNA!!!

Went out and bought my first batch of baby clothes tonight. Spent £32 in George and got so much stuff, I high fived myself Got the CUTEST little cardigan!

Am still kinda panicking about the size of his head... How on EARTH am I going to be able to... You know... Get it out?!?! Is this a first-time-mum panic, and I'm being irrational, or..? But I'm half way through and its 195mm... That's HUGE! Gulps

Still in a good mood despite how much I'm finding things to worry about. Slightly concerned as that means the come down will be huge, but trying to enjoy it while it lasts. My whole "Just Us" weekend plan has gone out of the window as we now have to go out Saturday night to see off a friends partner who has to go back to Oz. I really like her, and I'm sad she's leaving, but I was so looking forward to "Just Us". Ah well.

Thanks for name support

WizzyWoo · 09/07/2009 22:29

Hi Everyone

I really must check in on this thread more regularly, there's always so much to catch up on! Big congratulations on all the healthy scans coming through

Naetha I feel exactly the same about finding out about having a DS this time round, as I'm not quite sure what to do with the dangly bits!! My DD is great, rather bossy, but cuddly and lots of fun. On the nappy front, only problem is getting poo out of, ahem, crevices, especially now she shouts "no" at me when I try to do it - roll on potty training! I had to laugh at your DS's "loodleloodle" for Iggle Piggle - he sounds sooo cute!! The Iggle Piggle toilet trainer unfortunately doesn't stay on the toilet. DD likes to carry it around with her instead... mmm, didn't see that one coming

Broodzilla I have to ask, what make of pram is it that you've bought (and promoted so well, I think they should pay you commission!!) and do they do double buggies? I haven't had any Braxton Hicks this time round but they started at about 24 weeks when I was pregnant with DD and I found that leaning forward on something while wiggling my hips around helped. I probably looked like a hippo might if it ever decided to take up exotic dancing!

beepbeep I'm sorry to hear your DD has been so unwell and hope she gets better soon. xx

Helips How old is your DS? DD will be just over 2 when baby makes his appearance so I'd like to move her into a new room and bed round her birthday. BTW, I've also now got a hideous cough. I think I must have caught your swine flu via the web!!

EricaMaye My mum did the same thing about the names we thought of for DD and it really annoyed me. This time I haven't told anyone a thing (except for you guys and she's stroppy about that too! Can't win... We've actually decided that we don't like Dominic now after we remembered an old friend's devil child with the same name so we're back to the drawing board...

Tigger Ta muchly for the heads up about Mamas and Papas. I'll be heading that way at the weekend...

Went to physio today with pelvic pain and been given a brace and crutches to walk with. DH has just booked his flights for 5 days to the Isle of Man next month and I'm worried about how I'm going to manage DD, work, housework etc on my own when I'm struggling to walk and do normal activities...

On a completely unrelated matter, I put "The Naked Office" on Virgin 1 on tv for background while I type and just got an eyeful of a naked man's "gentleman's region" - must be turning into a prude, as I was a bit shocked, truth be told. I really thought they'd blur them out!! Off to make a bracing cup of tea! x

ErikaMaye · 09/07/2009 22:56

Wizzy - When you're walking with your crutches, lean back from your wasit, and try to sway your hips slightly from side to side when you step forwrad, if you understand what I mean. It made it a bit more comfortable for me. (I used to use crutches but have found it less frustrating having a walking stick, and it actually improves my balance.) I'm glad your physio has been of some use, at least! And I really hope that it helps the back pain.

katster37 · 10/07/2009 07:34

Yep chinese thing right with me!

Also, Broodzilla I had painful braxton hicks on Tuesday - really freaked me out, felt almost like bad period pain and tightenings. Is that how you would describe it?
