turtle you are probably off celebrating your news at the moment, but next time you're on I wondered if you could post that list of good foods/ supplements in pregnancy that you put up ages ago? I am on a bit of a health kick at the moment! Thanks

Oh it's so exciting everyone having their scans and either finding out the sex or not! I've got my scan on Thursday and I'm so excited! I think I am going to find out the sex, but part of me now wants to hold off until the birth! I'm sure dh will want to know though and dd definitely does so no doubt we will!

Tamlin your experiences when you had ds sound like mine when I had dd with the spd and everything. I am still waiting to hear about my physio appt. Going to have to phone midwife again and urge it on I think as its getting silly now. I'm now struggling even to do the school run and school is only 10 minutes walk away. The belt isn't really helping either so probably getting to the stage, as with dd, that they can't do anything, but it would be good to see the physio to find out.

Hi everyone, Haven't been on for a while. I can't keep up with all the posts. I'm now going to go back and read!

ErikaMaye · 07/07/2009 21:33

I'm on top of the frigging world this evening The fact its a boy is going to make it that bit cheaper as well, as everyone I know has had boys haha. I would dance if I could.

The messurments are a bit... Odd. Tiny legs and a big head. They weren't worried, but its bothering me a little. Firstly the size of the head itself (Circ.: 19.5cm!!!) and then its comparision to the abdominal size, and espeically the length of the legs. Neither me nor DP are particually tall but still... All on the healthy scale but at extremes, if that makes sense? Laughed about it with Jon, saying we're going to have a short-arsed genius, but am a little concerned. Will talk to the midwife, and I have a scan at 32 weeks, as well, so will talk about it then.

Congratulations to EVERYONE

I started a pregnancy diary the other week, and wondered if anyone else had? I've just written another entry, about todays scan, and stuck in the old scan photos now that I have new ones to put up on my wall. I've written in it name suggestions, the messurements at both scans, and plan to do things like cost of every day items etc further along the line. Just as a little thing for the baby (Well, for our son... Wow that feels weird!) - maybe if theres space I'll carry on writing in it during the first year.

I'm having a son. We're having a son. I need to get used to saying that. I guess I was still kinda expecting her to tell me it was a mistake and I wasn't pregnant today!!! Half way through and it still doesn't seem real!!!

turtle23 · 08/07/2009 06:42

Laugs..Oh dear...pg brain has totally forgotten what that was...vague memory of a list of herbal nono's?

turtle23 · 08/07/2009 06:44

That was:
Avoid the following:

Herbs that stimulate uterine contractions: birthwort, blue cohosh, cinchona, cotton root bark, ergot (as in commercial preparations for migraine headaches), goldenseal, gotu kola, Peruvian bark.

Herbs that stimulate menstrual flow: agave, angelica, bethroot, black cohosh, chicory, feverfew (in flower), hyssop, horehound, lovage, milk this-tie, mistletoe, motherwort, mugwort, nasturtium seed, osha, fresh parsley leaves (especially placed vaginally), pennyroyal, poke root, pulsatilla, rue, saffron, sumac berries, tansy, thuja (white cedar), watercress, wormwood, yarrow.

Herbs high in volatile oils (which can stimulate or irritate the uterus): eucalyptus, nutmeg, osha, yerba mansa, and the mint family members basil, catnip, lemon balm, marjoram, oregano, peppermint, pennyroyal, rosemary, true sage, and thyme. For the common culinary herbs, the concern lies with the use of high doses in women susceptible to miscarriage, not with using herbs to flavor food.

Plants high in alkaloids (which can also stimulate the uterus): barberry, blood root, broom, goldenseal, coffee, mandrake, tea.

Herbs that affect hormonal function: dong quai, hops, licorice, motherwort, wild yam.

Harsh herbal laxatives: aloe, cascara sagrada, purging buckthorn, rhubarb, senna, and yellow dock (in large amounts).

Strong diuretics: juniper berries, uvaursi (bearberry).

turtle23 · 08/07/2009 06:46

As far as good foods and supplements...take a good pregnancy multivit and follow that hideous advice from "What to Expect"
Look at every bite/drink that goes into your mouth and ask yourself if it is the best you can give your baby. It will put you right off pate.
Seriously, though, just eat well. Other supplements(unless you are anaemic) are not really worth it.

Tabbykat · 08/07/2009 08:45

Morning,

Busy few days so just been catching up with all the posts - great news about all the scans. So v jealous of everyone who saw Blur - absolutely loved them. Glad I'm not teh only one stuck in an indie rut. Anyone else remember getting a filthy bum stitting down every time James came on?

Well, had my scan last week, and the sonographer said she thinks it's another girl. Glad we found out as was actually sure it was a boy and means now we've got time to think of names. Only about 65% sure though, as it was lying all funny. Have also got placenta praevia,so have to go back at 34 weeks to check its moved. Apparently most of them do, but when I asked what happens if it doesn't she sort of ignored the question - anyone any experience of this? Bit ironic as last time I had placental accretia (sp?) which wasn't discovered until the birth, and had to have manual delivery of the placenta -lovely!

So, have added myself to the list:

Laugs · 08/07/2009 09:10

Congrats on your probable girl tabbykat and great to see you so happy erika!

I don't have experience of placenta praevia but I was also told that it's normally moved by 34 weeks. If it hasn't moved I think you might need a caesarian, but I guess they wait to discuss that with you at the time as it's not normally something to worry about.

Thanks turtle. I am taking a multivit and generally eat pretty healthily, but I'm just feeling quite run down at the moment so was hoping there was some magical cure! I have had a wheeze/ cough/ runny nose for about a month now - at first I'm sure it was hayfever, but just this week it feels more like a cold. Getting fed up with it!

Incidentally, do you know why we can't eat any pate, even vegetable ones? That seems strange to me.

tigger32 · 08/07/2009 09:32

Morning all,

Great news on the scans

erika Glad to see you feeling happy, really don't worry about the measurements, all babies grow at different rates, you may find at your next scan that he his legs have really grown and head not so much. If the sonographer was happy then its ok! Just enjoy and go out and buy something blue

tabbycat Placenta praevia is when your placenta covers the baby's exit (top of the cervix) It may cover it only slightly or it may be fully covered, your midwife should have told you how much is covered. She should also have explained that if you get get any bleeding you should get the placenta checked (via scan). Normally by 34 weeks the placenta will have moved out of the way, if not then you will be booked in for a c/s at around 38 weeks. Hope that helps

I'm feeling pretty good today as I got full nights sleep for the 1st time in weeks! No needing to wee, nobody falling out of bed, dh not coming home late and nobody crying for a cuddle!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 08/07/2009 09:36

turtle at catnip being a herb to avoid. I am rather partial to a bit of catnip and running around manically myself, shall avoid it from now on

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 08/07/2009 09:38

Oh and congrats Tabby on the girl!

ErikaMaye · 08/07/2009 11:01

Congrats Tabby

I'm bouncing off the walls, still. Social worker has just left - said to me that this definately isn't a child protection case, its just about making sure I have the support around me. Her only concern is DP not mentioning if he was struggling. Even said she thinks I'm going to be a great mum Said that my understanding of mental wellbeing, and of general physcology, will really benifit the child, and that she's sure I can use my experiences to make things better for us all in the long run. Am a very happy bunny.

Laugs · 08/07/2009 11:27

Glad everything's going so well Erika! I will join you in bouncing off the walls as I've just got some work from a (small) national mag. Woo hoo!
