Went to a wedding reception yesterday and 2 people called my bump a "poor little sod" for being a Christmas baby

Would have said something only one of the idiots was one of the grooms!!

Apparently DC will spend his/her whole life wondering if thier presents are Christas or Birthday gifts!

Grrrr

Anyone else had negative comments?

Sarah - I've already got one DS born Dec 30th and my parents always say poor thing - but it makes December really good fun in our house, whereas before both me and DH used to get winter blues so it's worked out perfectly!

I don't care what other people think so just let their stupid thoughtless remarks wash over you - I never understand why people think it's acceptable to make remarks that are about other people's choices in their lives - are they that perfect?

Rant over x

Firawla · 12/07/2009 11:59

Sarah just ignore them, if being born in december is the worst thing a child has to worry about then I don't think they have it too bad. It's hardly a big deal is it? Is your due date on december 25th itself? It still doesn't mean that'll be the exact birthday anyway, due dates are very rarely exact (5% or something)
I've got one in june so one in dec seems good cos it spaces them out nicely through the year

Scorps · 12/07/2009 13:08

Sarah ignore them, i find most people who make odd comments are indeed in some way jealous or admiring of you.

My others birthdays are April, June & November, so December is ok. My edd is xmas day

SarahL2 · 12/07/2009 13:31

My EDD was the 25th but it got changed to the 27th by the sonographer at our 12 week scan.

We didn't mean to have a December baby but after I miscarried what would have been our September baby, I didn't go back on the pill cause we were going to start trying again for next summer.

We're just thrilled that this pregnancy is going well so far but I wish people would keep thier opinions on the birthday to themselves

Baisey · 12/07/2009 17:28

Ladies im back from bonnie Scotland!
The bump has grown to ginormous proportions, it now enters a room about an hour before I do.
I dont think ive put the weight on anywhere else just on the tum, but I dont often look at my backside so my arse could be entering said room an hour after I do!!
Welcome to new people.
Sarah dont worry about peoples silly comments your baby is hardly going to end up seeing a psychiatrist (sp?) just because their birthday is near christmas, so theres no "poor little sod" about it!
Right im off to eat something... not sure what yet though. Maybe coco pops.

Baisey · 12/07/2009 17:34

And I didnt mean for that to sound like I was trivialising your annoyance Sarah.
I know its been bothering you a while and I know its easier said than done but you just need to ignore the stupid remarks of others and smile sweetly whilst gritting teeth, failing that when someone mentions it again act like its just occured to you and have a hissy fit and panic that the baby is going to be forever traumatised because their birthday was near christmas, the person will soon regret saying anything!

SarahL2 · 12/07/2009 17:51

lol - I love that Baisey! The next person who calls bump a poor little sod is going to get such a guilt trip! I'm so hormonal, I may even be able to manage tears

Midwife appt today aand heard the lo's heart beat .

BP was only 84/44 and until I heard that I hadn't been feeling at all dizzy but ever since I've felt woozy on standing up, psychology eh? Otherwise fine.

Just more waiting now. Looking forward to hearing the first news of 20 week scan results on this thread.

Devongirl · 13/07/2009 18:04

Drink LOTS of water LaDiDaDi! xx

Scorps · 13/07/2009 18:47

That is quite low bp! Mine is 110/80...i always have problems with it, and have to really relax to get a lower reading, i htink i get nervous in the surgery though for some reason.

My 20 week scan in 3 weeks, we must be having some on this thread very soon! We have decided to find out the gender. We really have a hard time naming a baby, you see.....we jave a boys name sorted, but only ones girls name that i like!

I'm feeling good, not tired, nice bump (i seem to have a ton of mat clothes now!! Isabella oliver have a sale btw, i got a rouched tube duo top today for £30! reversible long boob tube)

1petshortofazoo · 13/07/2009 18:48

I was taking DS to see DP fishing yesterday and got a bite from this ugly looking insect and i now have a swollen arm that is really itchy. does anyone know if i can put some antihistamine cream on it?? e45 just isnt working...

Scorps · 13/07/2009 18:51

they haven't really been trialled in pregnancy, they normally have to be prescribed. I would ring NHS direct to ask

Devongirl · 14/07/2009 11:15

1pet have you tried just making a cross in the centre of the bite with your thumb nail, as hard as you can? It was a tip I was shown by someone who spent time in Africa and it really takes the sting/itch out. Also, sorry if TMI but is there anything oozing out of it? Give it a good squeeze and clean it properly then the itching and swelling might go without having to use creams? Good luck!

Kingsroadie · 14/07/2009 16:18

Hi all

Hope everyone is feeling well! Sorry for all of you with low blood pressure and feelign rotten - miserable...

Am excited about 20 week scan on Thurs and finding out the sex - can't wait - am so impatient! But then keep reminding myself that it is also an anomaly scan too - fingers crossed nothing wrong...

Even though have put on about 11lbs everyone I meet and all friends keep commenting on how small I am and how you can't really even tell! I suppose if I wear a tight top you can see the mini bump. Also I should be grateful not to have a massive bump yet as it's still warm. Plenty of time for that yet!

Baisey · 14/07/2009 19:40

Had my letter back with results from the triple blood test, it was really worrying me due to my "problems" and it came back low risk! YAY! Such a weight off my shoulders, just have to wait till 28th for the anomaly scan and then I can breathe easy.
I hope to find out the sex of the baby, I brought down a suitcase of DS old baby clothes from the attic, I cant believe he was that small he was looking through them with me and one of the entire sleeves of the sleepsuit was the same size as his hand now!!
Made me feel quite weepy but then again so did the ending of Babe yesterday morning!
Found a nice pair of maternity jeans today (finally) in debenhams and I got 10% off because one of the little decorative stud things fell off when I was trying them on so that was a bonus!

Hope everyone is feeling ok and the low blood pressure isnt getting people down (no pun intended!)

ViktoriaMac · 14/07/2009 21:13

Hey ladies,
I got a call back from hospital saying to see my GP urgently. I apparently have "chronic anaemia," with a haemoglobin count of 7. GP said that if I wasn't pregnant he would transfuse me, but to wait till Friday when I see midwife, but to expect to go into hospital if no or little change. Has anyone else had a blood transfusion in pregnancy. Are there long term complications that may effect the birth?

I am going to post on the general pregnancy thread, but was wondering if any of you had any experience of this?

BexJ78 · 14/07/2009 22:48

Hello everyone. I am new to this thread, but due on 5 Dec (but think according to our dates it might be nearer to Christmas!!)
got 20 week scan on monday, so fingers crossed. :-)

Devongirl · 15/07/2009 13:27

Blimey ViktoriaMac, how have you been feeling? That sounds awful, poor you xxx

Hello BexJ78, hope you're feeling well and good luck for Monday. Mine is next Friday so fingers crossed for me too! xxx

BlueChampagne · 15/07/2009 13:46

Going back to Christmas birthdays - MIL is 25th Dec and so she gets 2 presents, one in birthday paper and one in Christmas, with appropriate cards. Honestly, you have to be born sometime and I bet no time is perfect. My birthday is late June and I only missed having O and A-level exams on it by chance. DS1 is end of August so someone will probably say 'poor sod, he'll be the youngest in his class at school'. Someone has to be!

SarahL2 · 15/07/2009 15:37

Feeling so awful today I could cry

Got us to toddler group this morning but then nearly passed out at least twice while there! Desperately needed a nap today but it seems DS has chosen this week to decide that he no longer needs to sleep in the day. Plus, I have a headache - still - feel like I've had one big endless one for weeks.

Net result is I'm tired, achey and cranky and poor DS is getting snapped at far more than he deserves and I feel like a terrible mother

Would try and see the doctor/midwife again but if one more person tells me that 'low blood pressure is better than high blood pressure and everything will be fine' I think I'll slap them! It may very well be better than high blood pressure but I still feel like crap! This doesn't seem to bother anyone I've spoken to so far though I am drinking lots and eating healthily but it's not helping!!!

Thanks BlueChampagne for the birthday thing. We had decided almost the same thing while at Toddler group this morning. My birthday is in the late May bank holiday and everyone was either away or doing exams when I wanted a party - especially the year I turned 21 while at uni There isn't a "perfect" date and we will all make sure our babies have lovely birthdays I'm sure

Just called DH to make sure he wasn't planning on being late home from work and burst into tears

Got a lovely kiss from DS to cheer me up though

Devongirl · 15/07/2009 15:59

Aw Sarah, I really sympathise as I felt so awful last week when my BP was right down. Will DS settle down with you on the sofa to watch a film/many episodes of Thomas/Postman Pat etc? or is there anyone who can have him for a couple of hours so you can get your feet up? I must have looked a sight last week lying on the sofa with my legs in the air but it definitely helped a bit.

Low blood pressure is better than high blood pressure because it won't do any permanent damage but if you feel like crap and can't stand up/take care of DS properly then everything is not fine, so ring your midwife again and just ask for some advice. You might have an infection or something?

How about drinking even more (virtually constantly) and eating something you fancy whether or not it's healthy (salt and vinegar crisps really helped me although the GP told me to be careful with salt!! What does he know about feeling so crap when pregnant!) and get your feet up now!

Sorry to be bossy x

SarahL2 · 15/07/2009 16:24

Poor DS is watching TV. He's been watching far too much TV recently but it's all I can manage sometimes. I feel really bad for snapping at him so much

DH has agreed to leave work on time so he should be home about 5 rather than his 5.30-6 usual which at least means he'll be able to get DS some dinner. All my family live a few hours drive away and DH's family were all working today. Friends kids all sleep in the afternoon so the last thing they needed was a wide awake DS. All would have been easier if he'd have napped cause I could have done the same.

Midwife suggested lots of water and healthy food but I have been eating whatever takes minimal effort to prepare and that I can eat sat down so there have been lots of sandwiches and a few bags of S&V McCoys in the past couple of weeks (yummy)

Thanks for being bossy. The middle paragraph was just what I needed to hear - it may be "normal" but that doesn't mean it's fun. Why do the midwives not seem to grasp this?

OP posts:
AmazingBouncingFerret · 15/07/2009 17:22

Yes that my bugbear, when people smile patronisingly and say "ohhh but its normal" Yes I fucking well know it is but it doesnt make it any less crap.
Sorry you are feeling bad Sarah you have gave me an uncontrolable urge for McCoys salt and vinegar now though!
