BlueChampagne · 31/07/2009 13:00

We're waiting till the birth to find out gender, though I confess I was tempted to ask.

Only natural to worry Bex - and we've got years of it ahead of us!

Alexpolismum - glad there's someone else not peeking. I thought H R Giger looking at the spine from the top.

Devongirl, am totally with you.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 31/07/2009 20:01

Devongirl I feel the same, now that im over all the sickness (sorry if anyone isnt) and ive had my anomoly scan I feel like im on the home stretch, just lots of weight gain and feeling like a whale till the actual day itself.

Mybox · 01/08/2009 09:30

Had the amnio test and now on bed rest with medicine against cramps for four days. Anyone else had this test? The doctor doing the test started saying that at 20wks it was late for the test & I explained I didn't know I was so preg until 7 wks ago & then thought it was just the start. I had to wait 6wks for an appointment at the hospital but wasn't worried by this as thought I'd be about 11wks or so. He must have thought I was stupid as I do look big now!! but 7 wks ago I looked just a bit rounder but still could fit my ordinary clothes.

anniebigpants · 01/08/2009 09:49

Anyone getting pain in their buttock area? i thought it may be sciatica, but apparently it could be Pelvic Girdle Pain-PGP, im not sure if that is now known as SPD (symphis pubis dysfunction) or wether it is something completely different. Ive got a heat pack which i bought yesterday which gives temporary relief, but it is getting really painful .

anniebigpants · 01/08/2009 09:52

Ive no experience of amnio mybox, hope the next few days pass uneventfully for you. When do you get the results of your test?

Moosy · 01/08/2009 11:01

Annie IME SPD hurts mostly at the front, where the your pelvis joins. It feels like someone's tried to split you in two with an axe.

anniebigpants · 01/08/2009 11:51

Thanks Moosy-ive got pain at the front sometimes but its mainly in between my legs, groin area, but concentrated buttocks, mainly right. Getting out of bed on a morning takes some doing, as does turning over in bed, because of pain, if pain doesnt get any or much worser i can cope. Poor you having SPD before, any aches this time round?

GoldenSnitch · 01/08/2009 13:25

I sprained my hip a few years ago and although it's healed, I can always tell where the injury was when I'm pregnant. It's like the loose ligament and the relaxin just make it go totally out of place... Could you have hurt your back in the past Moosy?

I've just won a pink bouncy zebra in the MN comp..wonder if it's a sign that I'm having a girl? Only 9 days till I find out

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/08/2009 17:51

Congratulations Snitch! Hopefully the pink isnt as crappy as the ELC pink!

All day ive had this awful ache in my leg, kind of like the growing pains I used to have when I was a teenager. My mum reckons the baby is lying on a nerve but who knows, was wondering if anyone else has had it?
It doesnt go away if I rest it or rub it or walk on it, just this dull, constant ache im hoping it's gone by the time I want to go to bed

Claire236 · 01/08/2009 20:16

mybox - I had an amnio with ds1 but wasn't put on bed rest or given medication. I was told to take it easy for 24 hours afterwards but that was all. The 3 week wait for the results was the longest 3 weeks of my life. Hope everything goes ok for you.

I've been getting pains as well. Sometimes back sometimes front & sometimes groin. Figure it's just everything loosening but had a few days last week where I was in constant pain & started to worry it could be the beginning of something more serious. Being pregnant is such fun. I've also started getting cramp in my calves at night as well as heartburn which is more a burning in the back of my throat both of which I suffered with ds1.

Silverdall · 01/08/2009 21:18

Michelle I know what you mean - I hate shopping too why, not get some maternity clothes online.

Milliemuffin · 01/08/2009 21:41

anniebigpants you've described exactly what I had about 2 weeks ago so when I was about 17wks. I had it fri/sat/sun and by monday it had virtually gone. I still get it a little but only if I've been on my feet for a while so I find sitting down even for 10mins does help a little.

I now have a dilemma! DP has said for 19wks that he did not want to find out the sex as we did last time but last night he admitted he does want to find out! I've always wanted to find out but now he's said that I'm thinking but this is our last chance for a surprise?

Did anyone honestly feel their experience was 'better' for the surprise?
I was so overwhelmed with DS that it took me about 5mins to even open my eyes, look at baby and ask for confirmation that it was a boy! Does having the surprise really make it more special?

alexpolismum · 02/08/2009 09:22

Milliemuffin - I had a surprise with both my 2 children and I'm doing the same again this time!

It's really up to the individual, how you see things, but for me it honestly did add a special element to it, there was a feeling of suspense, something basic I didn't know about the baby and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I also had fun choosing two sets of names and keeping my family guessing!

BexJ78 · 02/08/2009 11:48

AmazingBouncingFerret hope the pain in your leg hs gone by the time you read this! i have had something similar, but mine is generally like a dull ache or even numbness, but then quite often on a night, or when I have been sitting in the same position for a while i start to get almost like shooting pains in my leg and have to move about and rub it loads until it subsides. DH thinks this is absolutely hilarious that i am walking round doing some sort of Vic Reeves impression! I asked my doc about it and apparently it is as you put weight on it presses against one of the nerves and causes the numbness/pain, but apparently is nothing to worry about. i wonder if yours is something similar but a different nerve??

Mybox · 02/08/2009 16:24

Thanks anniebigpants & Claire236. I'll get the first results thurs or friday and thefull results in three weeks. Bed rest has been super!! - if only it wasn't because of the test.

Sorry to hear about spd and others aches and pains. I have trouble with a trapped nerve in my right leg. Have this during preg & started with my second. The super thing is that it is magically sorted out after the birth! Not the same cure for those for spd though. Best wishes to all xx

ViktoriaMac · 02/08/2009 21:03

Hey ladies,

Hope everyone has had a restful weekend and that some aches and pains have subsided a bit. I have had ridiculous lower back pain, but am off to aqua-natal classes tomorrow and Tuesday, so hopefully that will help.

Mybox - hope you are being spoiled whilst on bed rest and good luck with the results.

JeanLouiseFinch · 02/08/2009 21:49

Due 15th Dec had scan this week but cord in the way. I really wanted to know gender to be able to think in terms of he or she instead of it. Wanting to book private scan but OH now suddenly not keen to know. Who has had 20 week scan already? Did you find out? Did you want to but couldn't?

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/08/2009 21:52

Hi Jean (I love your name btw - my favourite character hence dd's middle name ). We wanted to find out with dd but weren't able to at the 20 week scan. I remember being quite disappointed because we'd ummed and ahhhed about finding out and then decided to and couldn't. We did have another scan and found out later though

We had our 20 week scan for this one last week and found out it was a boy. It was really obvious as well iyswim

JeanLouiseFinch · 02/08/2009 22:16

Tilly congratulations on finding out. Think we will have another scan just need to wait a while and talk about it.

Love the name Scout but OH made horror face when I suggested it.

Devongirl · 03/08/2009 09:34

Ha I wanted Scout too but DH also made horror face! LOVE THAT BOOK & FILM - mmm Gregory Peck ...[drifting off into loved-up haze icon]

Anyway, back to pains - anyone who has had a CS before got slight tugging pains over their scar? Should I be worried? (am a bit worried but it feels a lot better today)

GoldenSnitch · 03/08/2009 10:33

My DH makes the horror face when I suggest even talking about names. Apparently, he doesn't want to discuss it before we find out the sex so we can save ourselves 50% of the arguements work

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/08/2009 12:06

I don't think we would have had the guts to go for Scout as a first name but we both love the book and had no problems with it as a middle name (she can always just ignore it if it embarrasses her later on). Atticus was on the list for this one but we did say it would look like we'd only ever read one book so we vetoed it

Devon - sorry - no idea about CS but would assume that everything is stretching/tugging etc. so most slight pains are normal.

Mybox · 03/08/2009 13:00

Thanks VictoriaMac - Have had a super time with meals in bed & have read three books!!! Just wish it wasn't because of the test. Had a scan today & all ok - so now it's the first results at the end of this week.

GoldenSnitch · 03/08/2009 21:15

Is anyone else so busy with thier DC1 that they go days without feeling baby move? Or should I be calling the midwife?

I called the midwife a couple of times when pregnant with DS cause I thought he hadn't moved and things were always OK and it was a lot later on in my pregnancy when kicks could be felt from the outside too.

DS has a virus so I've had a lot to do but I am feeling a bit uneasy about it all now...

Milliemuffin · 03/08/2009 21:35

I feel a few quicks in the mornings when I'm awake and DS is just starting to wake up and then maybe a couple if I get a chance to sit down for half hour in the evening but definitely nothing during the day cos like you say running around after a 2yo takes all your attention. If it wasn't for my huge uncomfortable stretching bump I could easily forget I was pregnant but I just try and enjoy it cos give it a month or two and there'll be feet and hands poking in your ribs and you'll be missing these days! xx
